I thought the whole topic came up cuz that other poster said nakama was used in every asking to join/denial to Luffy scene.
Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 8 - Onigashima)

If Yamato has a DF ability, he can join some of the idiots that have to be saved at times. It's an entertaining meme.
-
The only bad thing about Yamato joining is there’s really nothing super special about his design, not that it’s not good and creative…. But after a seven level transforming reindeer mascot character, a Hawaiian shirt/speedo wearing cyborg with Popeye arms and a cyan Pompadour, a gentleman skeleton with an Afro, and a Shichibukai whale shark fishman….. well I was just expecting something a little more insane

Well its not like the crew got progressively weirder unique designs with each new crew mate.
The east blue members are all humans. The first half of the grand line were suppose to reflect how weird it is but there was more focus on Robin's story than her design so she's the exception.
The New World and going forward seems to be something else so far with Jimbe as a Fishman. Who really doesn't look any more unusual than any other Fishman we've seen since Arlong park.
Plus it's kinda clear Oda wasn't necessarily focusing on super weird and more unique than the last designs. If he was we would've got somebody from sky island in the crew, a long arm, leg, and neck 3-eyed character joining, and w/e race King as a member. Not even a mink.
Seems like he scratched that itch by having Big Mom specifically seek out super diverse and creative ppl to join her crew.
Yamato is unique looking enough.

Well all of Luffy’s recruits from the Grand Line have had some non-human/fantastical element to them. She’s not something like reindeer or cyborg, and while it can be easy to dismiss her as Nami with horns, bearing in mind Oda not favoriting many beautiful female faces, I suppose an abnormally tall Oni-like character that’s the child of an Emperor and can replicate many of his moves is fantastical enough, along with the striking design like with the hair.

He's a 2.5m tall oni person thing with multicolor hair. Looks special enough.

Probably fantastical enough as far as Grand Line recruits go. Just look at Robin.

Yeah I could see that. lol

So in reteospective and at this far point in the arc, is quite discernible that Carrot's story is always been a Mink story.
She reunited with the Minks almost upon arrival, her main mission was with the Minks, she spent the most time in Wano with the Minks, she attended Pedro's copreselss funeral with the Minks, she reappeared in the Onigashima's raid along with the Minks in the Sunny, her first round against Perospero ocurred besides Wanda, and is now expected to close her story arc along her Mink Leader.
This arc has consistently obliterated the idea that she bonded way too much with the StrawHat, that it was supposedly no longer possible to take her appart.
Well that's actually what's happened the entire arc.
-
She also had maybe 10 lines of dialogue in the last 100 chapters.
-
She also had maybe 10 lines of dialogue in the last 100 chapters.
Interestingly, Chapter 1014 didn’t even bother showing Carrot, either knocked out or reacting to the news of all hope seeming to be lost.
-
Carrot also wasn't shown fighting against Perospero when CP0 were talking about the importance of taking out not only the leaders but also the officers. Which is even weirder because Yamato who at the time was only guarding Momo and not actually fighting against an officer was still shown.
-
I mean Oden forced himself on WB ship. I can see Yamato do the same. Same with Inu and Neko hiding on the Moby Dick and Oro Jackson, I can also see Carrot do the same.

Well Whitebeard suspected Oden wanting to sail with him was out of nefarious selfishness, but realized he wasn’t so nefarious after seeing him rescue Toki, so he then felt confident enough to call him a little brother. I don’t think it takes much to convice Luffy beyond seeing you as a potential friend.

Yeah, interesting how the last time Carrot was seen as of now was her being knocked to the ground, with Luffy nowhere in site when he was conscious, while Yamato is as of now currently attempting to hold Kaido back for Luffy’s sake.

If the Crew was really meant to be that large, Luffy could've gone recruiting people at most places he's been too, Carrot herself would've been a crewmate already since there's nothing stopping her anyways.
But the fact is, Oda has consistently avoided recruitments for over ten years, no one here would have believed that was going to be the case ten years ago.
Wano, is already the arc where Jinbro has been made official, we're tentatively waiting on a second recruitment, but a THIRD recruitment, all within the same arc, not only that's a rarity that never happens, but is also not necessary to do so.
-

Not quite. The idea of the crew topping at 11 has been pretty common since, at least, the early days of Water 7 (when I started following the discussions).
So, the moment the crew was at 9 before the timeskip, it was pretty clear to most people that we wouldn't be getting many more after it.
Oda seems to have since moved to gathering non-nakama allies, with Law, the Grand Fleet and so on.
-
Tama and Yamato being Ace friends, strengthens the retainer possibility. I thought Tama and Yamato would make a cover with Ace because Oda dragged out the Momo duty stuff. There are some who speculated that Yamato would get to show off his DF to Luffy when the Supernova vs Yonko mess died down, but that didn't happen.

This I agree with. Definitely didn't see Jinbe taking as long as he did, and one more this arc is already riding his coattails. It's gotta be just one more.

I honestly wasn’t sure what the main point was in delaying Jinbe’s recruitment to the point that he skipped out on Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, and Zou. Was it only to show his spotlight moment in defying Big Mom?

I’m sure Yamato will get the chance to shine with that fang power in holding Kaido back.

Yeah, he has been really emphasizing on alliances like with law, Kinemon, and even getting access to a massive fleet that functions independent from Luffy, but is willing to come help him out any time he needs them. He has also been focusing on him interacting with other Worst Generation people, so I presume he’ll meet up with Bonney and Urouge as well.

Well, I got the feeling it was made official when Luffy said I’m your Captain now, to which Jinbe didn’t disagree, back at Whole Cake.

The fact that Jinbe took so long, with him "joining" in WCI but then it being officially delayed for late Wano, is one of the hints I take that no one else is joining in this saga.
I just don't see a second crewmate joining in the party that caps Jinbe's decare-long journey to become a Straw Hat. Anyone else getting that honor now would either be diminished by Jinbe or diminish the importance of the moment for him.
I also feel the major points of the New World were set up in the late pre-timeskip chapters. Which is why I think whoever the 11th is, it's some character introduced before the timeskip and not anyone showing up now. Any new cool figures Oda came up with in the last decade or so will become allies, IMO.

I could see people not wanting anymore crew mates since Luffy met all of them pre-time skip, and that it feels more close-knit that way. Then again, I suppose it would be an interesting dynamic in someone joining who wasn’t apart of that time skip or personally having known Luffy for at least two years, as if they’d have to prove their worth as a crew mate even if they didn’t know Luffy for as long as they had.

Yeah, with Luffy and questionable ppl it usually just comes down to him telling the crew or ally (or the reader) that he sees and feels they're actually a good person. He did it with Zoro and Robin explicitly. He saw the good nature qualities on Sanji and Nami to make him so insistent on them joining him cue manga panels of all the times he's done that with nakama He's even noticed it in characters that turned out to be antagonists and later allies (Buggy, Bellamy, Gin, etc.) cue manga panels of all the times he's done it with them
Meanwhile, he can still tell guys like Crocodile are assholes you have to keep an eye on.

Gotta say would be pretty crazy and left field for Oda to do that with Carrot after the end of Wano. I get the comparison but still cuz even Robin had some breadcrumbs to lead up to that when she stowed away.
The complete lack of focus on Carrot has been glaring and despite what supporters have said I feel like Oda has not been building up toward anything with her other than some vague realization she might have about what she wants to do with her future that may or may not happen during or by the end this fight.
To make her a nakama after lacking all that he'd have to go in to overdrive to specifically focus on Carrot to make her feel like a fleshed out character with depth let alone a strawhat pirate. I can't really say there's been a lot of development done with the character to justify her being in the crew. She's sort of screamed temporary b-grade arc ally for a long time now and its mostly evidenced by all of the things he hasn't done with the character since Wano started.

And that Luffy had no problem going against Kanjuro and calling him a jerk even though he had been with Kin’emon and the alliance beforehand.

Well yeah, that another thing ive said before, if Carrot was going to join she would've joined during/after Whole Cake island. She would've got more focus and got a flashback and some subplot conflict with the main antagonists. That didn't happen.
Same with the overall point. If the crew was going to be bigger, someone would've joined every arc or just about. We'd have Wiper on the crew, some character from Sabaody, Maguritte would've somehow joined, etc. Its been a feat in itself how Oda has totally stalled on new nakama since the timeskip and dragged Jimbe's joining over 6 or 7 arcs.
So yeah I just don't see 2 more ppl joining in the same arc eight after Jimbe. With that said, future arcs are still up in the air imo.

Oda did just fine with the rejoining of Usopp and Robin while adding Franky. Each separate emotional moment hit for all of them from the climax of EL to the celebrations in Water 7 and resolution.
So totally disagree on Jimbe diminishing someone else joining or the next nakama diminishing Jimbe just cuz Oda dragged it for years.
This idea that the 11th is final still feels like speculation based off what Luffy said about crew size and it being someone we've met before and not a new character just seems pulled out of nowhere especially given the hints Oda is laying down for us currently with Yamato.

At the very least, Yamato blatantly stating he'll go with Luffy makes it an issue that needs an answer now rather than some future arc. Some are taking as certain that Yamato is that answer, I'm still not. But whatever it is, that bell has been rung in Wano, and they can't just leave Wano with no one.
-

I assume its mostly because Jinbe was too strong. Oda already has trouble capping Luffy and Zoro from plowing through everything, Jinbe would have made Punk Hazard and Dresserossa jokes.

This might be why Oda made Yamato be the one who gave Ace's Vivre Card to him, so an indirect pre-timeskip connection was established.
Because, let's be real, that wasn't necessary, but Oda did it anyway.

I'd also assume it's because of how big of a name Jinbe is.
He's an ex-Shichibukai with a last known bounty of 438 million, which was higher than Luffy's bounty post-TS until Dressrosa and even now would automatically make him the second highest bounty in the crew by more than 100 million. And we had JUST come out of a timeskip - we didn't have a clear grasp on just how strong the Strawhats' heavy hitters had become yet. For all the trouble the Strawhats had on Fishman Island and Punk Hazard they were mostly just flexing prior to Dressrosa, and Zoro arguably didn't have an actual challenge until he reached Wano, so adding Jinbe to the permanent roster too early would have felt lopsided, especially if he immediately started with a showing in battle like we're getting against Who's Who.
The Strawhats needed to be built up so that Jinbe joining would feel natural, which is probably one of the things that Luffy's post-Totland status as the "Fifth Yonkou" was meant to achieve.

Luffy’s probably considered an Emperor candidate at best, since his bounty wasn’t shown alongside the bounties of Blackbeard, Shanks, Big Mom, and Kaido at the Marine Rocks meeting.
-
Worth noting that Carrot hasn't even raised interest in becoming a Pirate..

I can’t recall her saying that either, though then again, with how Luffy does things, “pirate” isn’t really different from “adventurer.”

Regardless of whether his status a "Fifth Yonkou" is in any way official or widely recognized, the point is that after Totland, Luffy is a big name rookie with a bounty of 1.5 billion who is now directly butting heads with the actual Yonkou.
He and the other Strawhat heavy-hitters have now reached the point where adding Jinbe to the mix is a welcome addition without necessarily outclassing anyone, whereas before it would've risked feeling like we'd just added a "Vegeta" to the team to the detriment of our existing "Piccolos". I fully expect Zoro, at least, to surpass Jinbe's bounty once we get the inevitable post-arc bounty updates, and while I don't know if Sanji will do the same, I doubt he'd be too far behind.

Neither did Franky. Jinbe wasn't planning on it until Fisher Tiger asked him. And Zoro, Nami and Sanji rejected the idea at first. Being a pirate is a means to an end for many of them.

Clearly that's possible, but I personally don't think the answer is either everyone or no one.

Usopp acknowledged Nami's sidekick as remarkable to what Tama did. Tama has inched away from retainer while Yamato has missed 2 chapters.

Well Franky had two arcs before deciding to become a pirate, holding himself back to resigning on Water 7 specifically because of what happened to Tom and feeling that he needed to atone for his actions in Tom getting hurt and not being able to save him, and that Luffy basically helped in that by helping physically defeat CP9, whom were responsible in framing his workers and having Tom be sent to Enies Lobby, and giving Franky enough closure to forgive himself and move on.

I don't see how that's negating my point. Before he got his bounty, Franky never once said he wanted to be a pirate, or even that he wanted to sail. His parents were pirates and they left him behind. He hated pirates and robbed them for his own ends. But a pirate he became all the same, which runs counter to Monquito's assertion that Carrot not yet specifically saying she wants to be a pirate is a bad thing.
At the very least, Carrot willingly jumped on to a pirate ship and served on it. If she doesn't join, it won't be because she has any hesitation about piracy or that she simply doesn't care.
-
How are people reconciling bounties for someone like Yamato? No one besides Kaido's crew seems to know about him (I'm sure the WG does), but does that mean he automatically gets a large bounty even though he's never even left an island before?

If CP0 hears about him doing something crazy during the raid he should get one of those we usually don't do this but holy shit bounties that Luffy got. But scaled for new world standards of course
-
They were gonna kill Ace as a baby just for being Roger's kid. As far as a bounty goes, I don't think they'll need an excuse for Yamato to get one by default.

I think that a deciding factor which plays into her joining is what happens with her situation with Perospero at this point, because she seems more focused on that than sailing away with Luffy.

Well, in her defeat, she's hearing what Pedro said when he spoke of the importance of the crew making it out. It's very similar to Oda playing up the obvious slave role of Zeus because his bond with Nami is weak. Split them up, then reinforce the bond for a genuine one where he's a sidekick.
Carrot could have easily just lost as Perospero spoke like a true villain and that would be enough because I love Pero for that. Instead, Oda brought back Pedro's last message to Carrot from over 100 chapters ago. I would have to say that those words mean nothing concerning the crew if I am to play along with "she has not interest in the crew". Her conscious is playing Pedro's words concerning the opposite tho.
-
And my point still stands:
Jinbe is fast

If Yamato doesn't have a bounty already, his familial connection to Kaidou would probably warrant one all on its own, as I doubt the World Government would want to take too many chances on whether Kaidou's legendary physical ability is at least partly genetic. Not much they can do about Linlin's kids beyond what they're already doing, as the Charlotte family's solidly in exponential growth territory given the sheer number of them, but if given the chance, they'd probably like to cut off Kaidou's family tree before it has the opportunity to grow any new branches.
Between that, his willingness and implied ability to fight against his father one-vs-one for even a modest period of time, and the pretty clear implication that he intends to join a crew that will have taken down at least one Yonkou by the end of the arc (and, depending on what happens with regards to Big Mom, have at the very least seriously pissed off another for the second time in a month), and I feel that Yamato's bounty post-Wano is likely to be pretty substantial.
Probably in the 4-500 million range at a minimum, which is obviously a lot, but I can't see this arc ending without ALL of the Strawhats getting a significant boost. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Zoro cracks 1 billion.

Jinbe is fast
He was able to intercept G2 Luffy. Who thought he wasn't quick?

He's only thought of as slow because of the way the anime adapted his attacks, specially in Impel Down.

Him being so charmingly chonkers doesn't help his rep

I know. In fact, I mentioned that.
@SeaOfHope:Pretimeskip, he intercepted Luffy in G2 in Impel Down and easily outmaneuvered shadow stacked Moria at Marineford while on land.
I wouldn't say Jinbe is as fast as Sanji (on land) either, but he's definitely fast.

The Musou games made him super slow too. It was frustrating.
