The s word have been said in the dub in the past. Buggy said it during Lougetown during the scene when he and Mohiji were eating at same restaurant as Luffy and Zoro. The other time was in Little Garden, when Sanji was on the den den mushi with Crocodile.

Ah yes I remember this now we've talked about this before, still semi-rare I guess.
-
That's a TV broadcast thing. They can say "shit" as long as it isn't on TV, which unfortunately it isn't.
That's boardcast tv, Cable tv you can say the s-word. For example a lot of the recent anime on adult swim, can get away with saying then back in 2012. Since the adult swim airing of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3, allowed Joseph say his catchphrase "Holy S***!" uncensored.

Oh, man, yeah, Sengoku sounds fine but nothing like Ed. Weird to hear a new voice for him now that he's back for a bigger role. :[
I wish they could recast with the target of sounding like the original voice. They did a great job with Blackbeard; his recast sounds super similar (though of course you can't get it perfect). But these latest recasts are just whole new interpretations: Harjudin, Tsuru, Sengoku, Hack, etc.
Thanks for the episode numbers, Blake, though I couldn't find the Hack line. Ah well.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Blake:
I honestly don't know what you mean, every recast has been either an elderly actor or someone who's seemingly dissapeared from dubbing work completely. With this set we have… 2? Earlier on we had Hajrudin. Thats not ideal I suppose but certainely doesnt have to do with the schedule.
We don't really know the reasons why Tsuru, Hack, and Harjudin were recasted. Obviously Sengoku and Blackbeard and Appo were because of actor deaths. But it's kind of weird that some of these actors just "leave dubbing work" mid-role. Especially when that role is planned to end after a few more recording sessions. Seems extremely unprofessional to me–especially since it's too late for the directors to recast and rerecord, since some of the episodes are already out. Do you have any evidence that these actors "left dubbing work," or are you just speculating?
I guess that above reason is part of why the production work likes to stay ahead of releases.
-
Okay, I’m primarily talking about the 3 dressrosa actors. We have no confirmation for Tsuru or Hack, but given both of their ages I really don’t it’s all too crazy to assume that that’s the reason. “Left dubbing work” doesn’t apply here per say but Randy E. Fairborn isn’t doing ANY dubbing work at the moment including one piece. In his case given how sudden it is it’s probably medical related, though that’s just speculation.
My larger point is that there’s no VA that’s left the show and is ALSO continuously doing other work, I just find your claim that this has probably happened due to the dubs faster production cycle to be unfounded, every recent recast while not outright explained have pretty inferable reasons behind them.
-
Whatever, mate. It’s a possibility. This forum is for speculation. I didn’t say I was certain of anything. But if someone is sick for a month or something (surgery recovery or something), Funimation maybe can’t afford to wait around for them, is all I’m saying.
-
I mean, fair enough I guess. I was just pointing out that I really don’t think this is the case here, just a lot of things are timed unfortunately.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I have a feeling I am just gonna keep remembering things to say I can’t believe I forgot but Laws fruit is the Op-Op fruit again, not Ope-Ope. Weird isolated instance.
-
Mike Pollock liked my Twitter post regarding him being in One Piece, so I'll take that as a confirmation as well, despite it being rather obvious already. lol
-
Is the “pull yourself together” line Hack’s? Could just be one of the other guys. Also wouldn’t be surprised if he just sounds slightly different on his one line before that. You sure he’s a recast?
-
No, I thought that as well initially but the whole scene is cutting to characters and hearing what they have to say, that being an exception for Hack wouldnt make any sense. Besides, all 3 lines all sound like the same voice, and frankly almost nothing like Garrett Schenck, though perhaps I was a tad too harsh before.
-
The voice sounds exactly the same… :getlost:
-
Yeah, I’m not hearing a big difference either. His line might just be a slightly deeper delivery.
-
I honestly feel like I'm going insane here lol. Most of the time it's the other way around and people here will say actors performances drastically change when I cant hear a thing, but to me this is so obviously a different voice. Heres a clip of Garrett for comparison
. He sounds way way older and gravellier, its more than just pitch. I dont think he could sound like lines in voyage 6 if he tried.
-
Yeah, to me the change in Hack's voice is fairly noticeable in those clips (and compared to EoS). Either they've got a new VA or Garrett Schenck is performing the character differently for whatever reason.
-
No that's definitely someone else? Don't know what the hell some people are thinking here but listening to the two Twitter links makes it very obvious
-
Interesting that everyones announcing all these things now, must've gotten some kind of go ahead.
Didnt watch this live because I sleeping, but getting most of the Luffy VA's from the shows dubs for a couple lines (including Colleen) was a really cool thing they didn't have to do
.If I have something to complain about with this set, it's definitely Sugar. It sucks cuz I really love her voice normally but, she just really forces to maintain the same pitch when she screams and it just does not sound natural or good. Its so dissapointing too cuz she was fine on this fron in Episode of Sabo, so I know she can do better, but here she does a lot of angry and distressed screaming which makes it much more noticeable and distracting.
Paying attention to her scream in this clip, I think they had to loop it even
-
I've been saying about Sugar. I don't know why her performance dipped so much for the episodes. SHe sounded so much better in EoS.
-
You did, but she really only had the one scream for the grape scene so it wasnt as bad. Here she yells at people constantly and pretends to be super upset for luffy and law and it could not be more distracting.
-
Maybe it's me but I'm not noticing any difference with Hacks voice at all naybe pitch wise that's it but the tone sounds exactly the same but ehh not that it matters.
I do agree about Sugar's performance here she sounded a little better in the clip you posted but idk it seemed like the actress was really struggling to get that scream out she sounded worse during the grape scene and as mentioned before she did it wayy better in the special
-
I just got an email advertising OP discounts in the funimation store celebrating its 1000th episode incoming. So that might be that.
-
They wouldn’t of hyped it up like that if it were something so minor, outside of that email it hasn’t been said that it’s even a celebration at all. If it was just a sale I feel like they would’ve just said as much in the live stream.
-
I agree they're not making no big fuss over no sale that would be petty as hell. It's definitely something bigger
-
Here's hoping. But it wouldn't be surprising to me.
-
The thing is it would be possible if it was they'd… mention it? Like I have no expectations for this but they wouldve said it was for the 1000 eps literally anywhere outside of... emailing funimation users. Like I know they do confusing things sometimes but they explicitely said "announce" in the live stream so that would be completely contradictory.
-
I was actually just about to comment something similar. While she clearly sounds different than in Nebulandia it does still sound similar to other voice work from Pam Dougherty.
-
It's my mistake, I just assumed she has less range than she actually does lol. I guess we'll see if its an intentional choice or not come voyage 9. I will say though if this is just what she sounds like from now on I dont mind, not only did she only get a few lines in Nebulandia anyways, but I think I actually prefer this as a voice for her.
-
Here is a video about someone helping make 4kids dub one piece rap opening! -
Glad to hear it sounds like her other work. And it makes sense she’s sound younger here. We’ll see in a few sets for sure. Sure would be nice if they credited voice actors. Common decency, man.
-
Yeah, I want to be more angry about it, but there’s only so much I can say on the matter. It just doesn’t make any sense.
-
I had figured the credits would be on the Blu-ray’s and they just didn’t have time to put them on the digital releases. (They should make the time, of course.) but the fact that the credits aren’t even available on the releases is just plain insane and asinine. I’ve never heard of this happening before in such an ongoing-policy way.

I'm convinced it has to be some bizarre edict from Toei.
-
This isn't really new news. Toei did this with the Viz's release of the original Sailor Moon anime.
-
This wasn’t a completely new dub tho, and even still it doesn’t make it any less scummy.
-
For the life of me I can’t figure out what they benefit from keeping the cast a secret after release.
-
Isn't this just an anime thing? The whole non union stuff etc.
-
The overwhelming majority of dubs credit their actors, it has nothing to do with unions. You have to keep track of the cast anyways for consistency purposes, it’s literally just as simply as copying and pasting that in the credits. It’s such a non-effort and basic respect for your workers.
-
I feel like a union would require the actors to be credited. Is there no union for voice actors? I know there’s SAG.
-
_I_f you're in a union chances are you're not working for funi. Regardless, I wasn't saying being in a union wouldn't make sure you're credited. I'm just saying if you AREN'T, they credit you anyways 99.9% of the time, cuz its common decency.
-
Can’t anyone become a union SAG actor after something they’ve acted in is produced or broadcasted?
-
I’m not entirely clear on the details, I meant that if you’re in a union you typically simply won’t be doing dubbing work afterwards, as we’ve seen happen multiple times in the past.
-
Does anyone know why that is? Why doesn’t funimation want to work with people in the union? Because the union stipulates that they pay them decently and give fucking credits?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Did anyone ever figure out how Machvise has Miss Valentine’s devil fruit?
-
1. From my understanding, its the opposite, but yes more or less. Dubbing just does not pay well.
2. It's not the same fruit. Ms. Valentines is Kilograms and Machvise's is tons. The latters is basically the superior version of the formers. There are a few devil fruits like this. Akainus is basically a superior version of Aces, Aokijis is more or less a direct superior of Monet's, etc.
-
Looks like the $44.99 retail price was a mistake. Since Amazon got Season 11, Voyage 3 retail price $39.99, while the preorder price is $33.49.
-
The Funimation stop still lists it as $44.99, which I would view as more reliable since its straight from the company who produced it.
-
Deep Discount also have Season 11, Voyage 3 at the retail price of 39.98 as well. In my opinion, the $44.98 retail price might be mistake.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Target also got Season 11, Voyage 3 at the retail price for 39.99, with the preorder at 33.49. Also Walmart got the retail price at 39.99.
