After a holiday break, What the Fuck Just Happened Today is back: https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2021/01/04/day-1446/
here's the COVID-Specific news:
[h=1]Day 1446: "No way."[/h]
! Covid-19 cases in the United States eclipsed 20 million as Trump falsely tweeted that the coronavirus cases and deaths are “exaggerated.” Dr. Anthony Fauci pushed back on the claim, saying “The numbers are real. We have well over 300,000 deaths. We are averaging two to three thousand deaths per day.” U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams also contradicted Trump’s claim, saying there is “no reason to doubt” the CDC’s Covid-19 death toll. The nation reported more than 210,000 new cases for Sunday as hospitalizations hit a record-high 125,544. (Politico / NBC News / CNN / NPR / ABC News / Wall Street Journal)
! * [h=4] Dept. of “We Have It Totally Under Control.”[/h]- Global: Total confirmed cases: ~85,521,000; deaths: ~1,850,000
- U.S.: Total confirmed cases: ~20,758,000; deaths: ~353,000
- Source: Johns Hopkins University
- The Trump administration fell well short of its goal to vaccinate 20 million people by January 1. About 12.4 million doses have been distributed to states, but only 2.8 million doses have been administered. (CNN / New York Times / Axios / Bloomberg)
- Colorado officials reported the first known case of the more contagious coronavirus variant discovered in Britain. Scientists said the variant is more transmissible but does not make people sicker. The variant was detected in a man in his 20s with no travel history. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meanwhile, ordered a third national lockdown for England as a more contagious coronavirus variant has surged. (Washington Post / New York Times / Bloomberg)
- Trump skipped his annual New Year’s Eve party, leaving guests to party maskless with Rudy Giuliani and Vanilla Ice at Mar-a-Lago. (CNN / New York Times)

OUCH. You were doing so well, Britain.
Exactly when? From keep backing the most idiotic economic move of the century during a pandemic, from trying to deal with by herd immunity, from cancelling school meals to kinds only to be shamed into giving it back because Marcus Rashford that paid 140K pounds in a campaign that ended amassing 20M pounds and made the torries looking like the demented part of the GOP - actually they might be one and the same but I'll let a brit confirm it - to well, fuck it it's Boris administration it's basically a sinking ship that you pray will have enough lifeboats.
-
Update 2: Cuomo has officially decided to just let the districts do whatever they want.
There was some mention made of schools being closed based on regular testing being done in-school, but as far as I can tell there is no mandatory statewide testing going on.
There may be regional testing being done by certain school districts but that's effectively been disincentivized by this decision.New York is now a red state when it comes to COVID response.

I meant just by the numbers on the chart.

I have COVID.
The surgery I was excited about in another thread is cancelled.
I am more scared and depressed than I've been in a very long time
-
Eeep. Hang in there, Rin. Getting your surgery cancelled sucks (but I assume you can reschedule?), but you know all the support lines out there.

Get some zinc tablets or lozenges, they help lessen the severity of the disease, especially if you start taking them early on.
Make sure you have a light therapy lamp at home to help reduce the extra stress and depression from being stuck indoors and not getting enough sunlight. I use this one I got from Amazon.Other than that… it'll probably be like having the flu.
Try to occupy yourself with stuff you enjoy and keep hydrated until it's over. -
I dunno about COVID, but whenever I have the flu/cold, I'm either eating/drinking or sleep, sleep, sleep. When I can't sleep anymore I'm either watching tv or randomly browsing the internet.

If you are still waiting on your $600 stimulus, may want to check on this. There's been some problems with people who used H&R Block and Turbotax getting their refund, and if you check for when you are supposed to get your money and it says "Payment Status #2-Not Available", you're gonna need to claim a credit for your 2020 tax returns. All relevant info in the link.
Well two of my family members got tested positive in one day, my father and my grandfather. Both are doing fine right now at least, though my grandfather fell due to being fatigued and had to go to the hospital. As long as nothing happens to delay things or causes problems, I will be getting my second dose of the vaccine this Thursday morning. First shot only had my arm sore, so will see how this one ends up affecting me.
-
I’m going to keep taking my Emergen-C on the daily. It’s worked so far….
-
The municipality of my city has bought a huge batch of ivermectin to "protect the citizens against covid-19", because it's the new fad. The mayor also claimed "if it doesn't work, at least it will get rid of parasites in the population", referring to ivermecting actually being an antiparasitic.
So obvious corruption + peddling pseudoscience + risking peoples lives.
-
At least you don't have a protestant preacher selling beans that cure covid…
Just so you know I'm not kidding:

.
We simply cannot stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass. The cost is too high. We will have nothing left to open. We must reopen the economy, but we must do it smartly and safely.
This comes after he did almost nothing to stop the spread of the virus for the last five months.
The tweet did get ratio'd… that's something I guess.

Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money
Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money
Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money
Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, motherfuckerI guess he got tired of watching how badly the Governors of Florida, South Dakota, & Georgia handled reopening their states. And now wants to fuck up shit too.

Apparently they’re a some in Washington who paid no attention to Louie Gohmert’s dumbassery.
-
Those poor women. What fucking assholes.
Although . . . if they tested positive, wouldn't the unmasked Republicans they sheltered with test positive too?
-
Oh come on, how hard is it to wear a mask? Just purchase one or two reusable ones, and get on with it. Couple of dollars will get you some nice ones with any pattern and colour you like. Add in one or two dollars and you get masks with replaceable extra filters.
So money isn't the issue, and it's also not a major inconvenience. Like, I don't know, being refused to purchase things because you can't be assed to bear with a mask while in a shop.
-
Welp, I've been put on the list for the COVID vaccine. No word yet on when I'll be getting it.

Well, it’s probably hard for someone. And this burden is due to a lack of understanding of why this is needed. Supporters of idiotic conspiracy theories scream from every iron, which leaves many in a state of doubt, because they simply cannot figure out where the truth is, to what extent and who is really deceiving them.

Much like lawyers should lose their licenses for doing dumb shit, same rule should apply to doctors.
-
Doctors can lose their medical license. This bitch definitely should.
-
Still thinking you’re Die Hard,Bruce?
Oh great, yet another entitled white man. I don't understand the logic of anti-maskers. It's like they can't stand to be told what to do, and continue to act like they are above the law. Even a bandana is better than nothing, FFS.
On a slightly related note, I have stopped supporting businesses that are not enforcing wearing masks. We went into a magic shop that's supposed to be the best in Portland and the woman that runs it wasn't even wearing a mask and has apparently been like this throughout the entire pandemic. There were too many people in the shop and a few were also not wearing their masks. We quickly left. How on earth she still has her business license is beyond me, but I left a nasty google review because fuck that.

Aside from the clear incentive of doing the right thing, aren't there fines for such businesses? Here in Hungary it is mandated by the state that shops and services has to enforce a mask policy. If the client doesn't comply, they must refuse service or even call the authorities. And they do, because they want to save their own hides of course.
Not that Hungary is the best example of Covid-related solutions, but we at least have this.

Yeah, that’s what is supposed to happen here, but idk how hard Oregon cracks down on that. Hell, my salon got a shitty review once because someone forgot to take their temperature or they weren’t sure the tablet to check in was sanitized. So people do pay attention to businesses following COVID protocol. You would think that enough people posting google reviews that a place is not being safe during this pandemic that it would get flagged. Literally 3 months ago someone posted that at that same location there were multiple customers that decided it was okay to remove their masks because the owner was not wearing hers. Ugh.
-
Vaccination starts in Wednesday, we only lack a significant amount of vaccines and supplies (needles and syringes).
-
So this is Britain now:
Considering the new strain is already here I expect the US to exceed 600,000 deaths by the official count before the end of February.
-
Just got a couple of Stimmy's direct deposited. Lets go. Looks like the homie Biden is gonna push for another round of checks as well.
-
Well Pompeo ain't Secretary no more, let Biden's more diplomatic cabinet do their job.
-
Pompeo is merely a pawn, the damage that Trump told his brazilian lap dog to do is done, relationships with China (OUR BIGGEST TRADDING PARTNER) and India are shaken.
There's need to be a purge of conservative "yes mans" from all our ministries, but that just like how our former military terrorist imbecile in chief likes them. -
Does this mean we might actually have a year where the Summer and Winter Olympics are the same year? Or just push the Summer Olympics back a full four?
-
Does this mean we might actually have a year where the Summer and Winter Olympics are the same year? Or just push the Summer Olympics back a full four?
Most likely, the Winter Olympics will be postponed. Still, if both the Winter and Summer Olympic Games are held in the same year, this is a colossal cost on the part of the Olympic Committee.
-
One of the sons of Bolsonaro, Carlos aka the head of the "Hate Cabinet" in the fake news disinformation campaign, has been reported skipping line to take the "chinese vaccine" he so vehemently opposed at a Military Hospital.
-

I don't really know what it means but they just put out a statement denying it.
Maybe they're waiting for the UK strain to blow through Japan and force another shutdown before they rip off that bandaid.
-

Well, are you surprised he's a hypocrite?
-
Well, are you surprised he's a hypocrite?
Absolutely not, his father manage to issue a 100 year secrecy on his vaccination card, meaning the he probably will take already took the vaccine he tried to undermine the whole 2020.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
To be frank, Tokyo and IOC should suck it up and cancel the Olympics. But there's to much money involved for both parts to let it happen.
As regular sports are back being played with Covid protocols. The biggest loss will probably be the Olympic Village orgies not happening. -
It’ll be interesting to see in total how much money Japan wastes on the Olympics especially once you factor in the delays.
-
Why can't the IOC push the entire timeline back two or three years?
At this rate the 2022 Beijing Olympics will either be similarly cancelled or turn into a regrettable disaster.
Refer to my post at the top of the last page.
Hell of a way to honor a guy’s last request
-
President of Mexico has Covid now.
Trump, Bolsonaro and AMLO, it somehow turned out to be incredibly contagious among populists.
((stares at Maduro)).. Well.. We're waiting on ya'!

Today's COVID-Specific WTF Just Happened Today:
https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2021/01/26/day-7/
[h=1]Day 7: "Down into the gutter of rancor and vitriol."[/h]! Global Covid-19 cases topped 100 million – less than three months after the world hit 50 million cases and just over a year after the first confirmed U.S. case. The U.S. accounts for more than 25 million infections. (NBC News / CNN / CNBC)
! * [h=4] Dept. of “We Have It Totally Under Control.”[/h]- Global: Total confirmed cases: ~100,092,000; deaths: ~2,152,000

- Biden will reopen the Affordable Care Act marketplace and reverse changes to Medicaid. (Washington Post / Reuters)
- Several hundred Biden staffers have been administered the coronavirus vaccine “to ensure a COVID-safe working environment around the president and key leaders who have national security and continuity of government responsibilities.” (Axios)
! The Biden administration plans to purchase an additional 200 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, with the goal of having enough supply to vaccinate nearly the entire U.S. population by the end of the summer. The administration says it’ll buy an additional 100 million doses each from Moderna and Pfizer. The purchases would be in addition to the 400 million combined doses the companies had already committed to providing to the U.S. and would increase available supply by 50%, bringing the total to 600 doses by this summer. Weekly allocations of coronavirus vaccines will also increase by roughly 16% next week – about 1.5 million additional doses. The weekly allocation is expected to go from about 8.6 million doses to about 10 million doses. (NPR / NBC News / Washington Post / Bloomberg / New York Times / Wall Street Journal)
poll/ 50% of Americans say they have a great or fair amount of trust in the federal government to provide accurate information about the coronavirus – up from 40% two weeks ago. (Axios) -
Welp, we only have enough vaccines - in the first trimester - to vaccinated 34% of the initial batch of people to be vaccinated.
But we have 1.5M pills of chloroquine, gotta love good planning. -
Hungary also fell short on the promised amount of vaccines ("Everyone who needs it will get it"). At least they're blaming Brussels I think.
-

Who is blaming britain. Who will probably use an uno reverse card
-
We didn't fell short, the Federal Gov't only started buying vaccines, after the CoranaVac and the Oxford one were approve for use here, the CoronaVac was already being bough by São Paulo's governor.
