But Pay-Pay was never shown defeated like those examples.

What devil fruit do you guys think Rocks D Xebec has/had? Maybe earth based? Cause of his name Rocks

Oh man that movie looks sooooooo bad, I loved the cartoon though
Toph is my personal favorite character (outside of uncle Iroh) so that’s always how I imagine what earth bending when I try to think of Another character doing it
Idk why but I usually love Earth bending characters like Toph, Sir Crocodile, Fate (Negima) and Garra (before shippuden)
So hopefully Rocks D. Xebec continues the trend

I have deep concerns regarding hope for significant chapter-long named 1v1's here.
Oda…please don't forget your bread and butter.

Oda…please don't forget your bread and butter.
I mean he literally just had Franky end up in front of Sasaki and he set up a conflict between Nami and Usopp against Ulti and Page One…... so there’s hope right?
But I agree I’m nervous he’ll skip the fights again, maybe you or the editors could give him nudge In the right direction
-
Greg another question… Cuz you always have some Oda like theories.
Assuming raid suit will stay... How will DJ will work with it?
Will the flames becomes invisible as well? Wouldn't make sense but would mean he can't use both of his trump cards at once
-
Ugh. Reading impel down… I can’t believe Oda Off screened buggy and mr. 3 vs Hannyabal.... typical Oda :ninja: As a reader I know exactly what Oda has to show and I find it disgusting that he would off screen clearly non important fights. Obvious sarcasm is obvious, but there’s my impression of the fandom nowadays. Hope y’all enjoyed

Greg you said you thought that the straw hats would fight Kaido’s pirates at different places all across Wano
Now that the island there on is literally flying over Wano, do you think something might happen to it, that Would send characters flying To different locations?
If so do you have any guesses as to what would cause the island to split apart and separate everyone?
Maybe a giant earthquake that travels through the air :ninja:
-
Greg , concerning Zorro's recent declaration, do you think he will fight Kaido? May be cut him too in front of Wano people ?
-
The interesting part is that sanji, jimbei, zoro, luffy all want to go up there to kaidou. As in 4 out of 10 straw hats. Is this becoming the Oars battle from thriller bark, with all straw hats?
-

It seems like Sanji won't make it.
Only the Supernovas should be there, that is Luffy, Kidd, Law, Zoro and Caribou.

Takes just a few seconds to punch black maria's face into the ground and fly up there with his jet boosters.
And sanji is supernova, he just fooled the marines by keeping his name secret, making his bounty stay under 100m two years ago.

He can always reach for his pocket, even caught by the spiderweb, to get raid suit transform and fly away or go invisible, if you like the boring option. But then what was the point of that encounter, it will most likely lead to someone saving him and maybe gain that someone as ally, if he is not ally already.

Oh yeah, he's totally being rescued, but until that someone comes in, he's not going anywhere.

A friend just asked me if Sir Crocodile's name is Sir or if Sir is just a title.
Considering this is the same manga that gave us Trafalgar Water D. Law, I wasn't sure.
Any chance you know it, Greg?

For what it's worth, his Vivre Card only says Crocodile. Not infallible, but I don't think there's much else to go off for this one.

A shame we didn't discuss the enemy ship long enough.
Mamma Chanter, a CP0 battleship, Thiller Bark.
I'm thinking Tama foreshadowed something bigger than it appears.
-
Oh I love love love this Orochi theory! Make it so!

Don't see how a battleship could be a threat to Kaido.

@Joy:

Depends on who is on it

A few weeks ago you said you didn't see how Kaido could be a threat to anyone. There's a lot you appear to not be seeing. Not sure if it's by choice or otherwise but the very reason you're 'not seeing' these things is why you're a reader of OP and not its writer.
The writer's job is create scenarios that defy what you 'can see'.

Battleships have stopped being threats since forever unless it is a buster all. One can’t really do anything
And yes I’m glad Oda finally portrayed Kaido like he is supposed to be. I was expecting the strongest in the world and that’s what we’re getting now

It would be very fitting if the new Marine Weapon that replaced the Warlords is a high-tech battleship and Orochi traded one of those. We could get a first taste of what Vegapunk invented, even if it doesn't change the dynamic of the war too much. Because it's just one ship - and not an entire armada lead by an Admiral. That could happen after the Yonkou war is over and someone has to clean house (Green Bull still needs his "massive show of force" -Admiral introduction after all).
It also explain why Orochi even knows about Vegapunk and why he wanted to get him in exchange for whatever he has to offer.

This post is deleted!

Ever since we learned about the Numbers, I am confident the SSG are a squadron of marines who have undergone the perfected transformation into Ancient Giants. And then maybe added Devil's Fruits atop of that.
So, it's basically seven Oars-sized DF-sporting super soldiers.

After the alliance beats Kaido and probably Big Mom (if there is no detour to Elbaf), and after seeing what those monsters could do, does what Green Bull would do matter at all? I mean we are not in the stage to be awed by Admiral entrances anymore isn't it?
-
If Green Bull has the power of plant then his show off will be awesome no matter how much power play are done in Wano.
-
I don't know if its taboo in Japan or something, but what are the chances for an Atomic/Nuclear df to exist?
-

That subject is most likely never going to come up in anything but the most serious or topical of works. People are still affected by the tsunami flooding the reactors nearly a decade ago.
-

I don't know, we witnessed what Whitebeard pulled during the war and the consensus during Dressrosa was still that Fujitora is bonkers. But being awed by the last Admiral's powers is not what I consider the inevitable event at this point, that's up to each reader anyway. What I think is unavoidable is the usual show of force that establishes why he's among the most powerful individuals in the world, and each Admiral had at least one chapter dedicated to him alone to prove it.
And these massive displays of power escalated over the years, appropriately to the growth of the crew:
-
Aokiji effortlessly overpowered the Straw Hats while freezing the sea for miles around him (at that point Luffy already beat two broken Logia fruits)
-
Kizaru destroyed a large part of Saobody the moment he arrived (by "mistake") and then proceeded to effortlessly beat a group of Supernova, at least half of them strong enough to get Warlord invitations. The Admiral arriving ended with the ultimate defeat of the Straw Hats, they were only saved by Kuma hax. (at that point in time Luffy defeated yet another Warlord and a CP9 agent considered to be in the same ballpark)
-
Akainu had his grand entrance in the war, with characters involved who were stronger than him. He had his extraordinary moments simply by getting shit done, in a war scenario with countless skirmishes and unfinished clashes. His show of force as an Admiral was not only based on his powers, but attitude. He defeated Luffy AND took something away from him that can never be fixed.
-
Fujitora had an entire arc dedicated to him, everything that happened in Dressrosa happened on his mercy (which hurt Doflamingo as a villain in my opinion, but it is what it is). And after dozens of chapters with some meteor summoning and gravity crushing, he destroys an armada by throwing every piece of rubble on Dressrosa on them. He cleaned house.
So what do we expect from Greenbull after this? "Hey I'm the new Admiral, I haven't eaten in 3 years because I can turn into a fern. Believe me I'm very strong "?
I mean with the 5 year clock ticking the options are few. Oda could save his introduction/show of force for the mega-war, but he wouldn't be able to distinguish himself like Akainu did, who "awed" the reader by actually killing important characters - in One Piece!
I can't picture Green Bull doing that, at least not in a Ace-style manner. He's just not important enough to be the focus of the endwar, unlike Akainu during the Whitebeard war.So what is left if the endwar is too convoluted for a focused Admiral introduction + Greenbull not being important enough as a character (outside of his role as a living weapon)?
An Admiral introduction Kizaru / Fujitora style. He arrives at Onigashima and cleans house. At that point Kaido & Big Mom will be defeated already (not killed), but someone needs to remove them from the grand stage. Who's supposed to do that? Drake…?- whatever forces are left of the New Rocks Alliance. There are thousands of pirates currently present after all.
So I imagine Green Bull flexing his powers like Fujitora, with the new Vegapunk weapon being his version of Kizaru's supporting Pacifista squad.

Hunter x Hunter had an atomic bomb explosion. I don't think it's out of the shonen boundaries.
That said, I doubt there's an atomic devil fruit. Most likely it could be an weapon that the WG would use, or Pluton.
-
An atomic devil fruit would just be White Beard with Mr. 5’s fruit
-
radiation is quite different from both, tho

Yes, it was. It was never specifically called an atomic bomb, but it was written to be easily understood as such and to make you immediately recall it and then use its tragic weight to conjure a reflective moment. All the usual symbolisms are there too to make it obvious.
Funnily enough, Togashi calls it "Rose", and there's a very famous brazilian poem called "The Rose of Hiroshima" about the atomic bomb, written by the same guy who wrote the lyrics of Girl From Ipanema. I wonder if Togashi ever heard of that poem, or if "rose" is a widespread metaphor for the explosion.

we specifically know that it's not an atomic bomb because it doesn't behave like one ,and atomic bombs were already revealed to exist in HxH world. also the rose being a conventional cheap weapon is more important symbolism than it's superficial similarities to nuclear bombs.

The connotative nature of its depiction is much more relevant than scientific accuracy, which is usually completely ignored by artists because it misses the point. When a japanese artist draws a bomb of mass destruction that looks like a poetic atomic bomb, that poisons people, that's politically charged, that's considered a crime against humanity, it is a reference to the atomic bomb, it'll be interpreted as an atomic bomb analogy.

i'm not talking about scientific accuracy the differences between the rose and atomic bombs are deliberate and are important for the story.
also i agree that togashi was clearly thinking about nuclear bombs when he drew it but that doesn't make it one. -
If it looks like an atomic bomb, swims like an atomic bomb, and quacks like an atomic bomb, then it probably is an atomic bomb.

So kaido is a koi fish that climbed the waterfall and turned into a dragon, correct? Can we call him Koido now? Seriously tho, this is fantastic. I remember many people asking why his scale tattoo was red when he’s a blue dragon. They’re koi scales, that’s why. Seriously blown away, did anyone see this coming at all??
-
Well, the original tale of the Koi its great and all, bus us westerns can only see it as a Magikarp thingy, so it sounded kinda dummy for us.
-
That is a very very generalized statement lmao. Wasn’t the case for me at all.
-
It is probably more true than not, especially outside of specific enviroments like for instance our own weeb-site. And even here not that many seem like they would've picked up on it without looking it up
-
This arc keeps reminding me how this is an author from a totally different culture to mine.
-
I think Oda could have potentially had Gyarados/Magikarp in mind when coloring Kaido's scales, both on his human and dragon form. I would scoff at the idea if Oda hadn't already put Meltans in Kidd's arm.
