Eiichiro Oda
I met Arashi again. As before, they were so genuine and so easy to talk to.
So Kaido bought the numbers over 20 years ago ? That doesn't make sense.
Also @andy
So Jinbe , Zoro or Sanji can't fight against commander level guys ?
Everyone is not at the same level as Kat or has his abilities , like you think snack ( who get beat by a supernova ) or smoothie or cracker at his same level .
All of Kaido commanders are not going to be at his level it has never been that way in history of the manga .
As for being 5th strongest aside from the fact luffy now has the 5 th highest bounty is the series for a alive person name one crew aside from the yonko that can match his that we have seen ?We if we going that WB did not accomplished shit in war before he died , neither did the admirals since luffy get away .
King and Queen are stronger than Jack. Sanji, Zoro and Jinbe have nothing on Jack. It's that simple.
WB was beating down everyone, if it wasn't for him being a constant threat with every move he made, Luffy would never reach Ace.
Also WB beat John Giant, Ronse (one shot them) he beat Akainu in 2 blows, was fighting with severe injuries and even bested Teach. In the end he gave the middle finger to Sengoku and died the most epic death in the series. Compare those things to Big Mom being an utter doofus and you get one great Yonko and one absurd comic relief character.
So that is like another eight flying devil fruits huh

Sorry but you underrate them if you truly believe they can't take down Jack. Zoro and Sanji got power-up for a reason. Hell Zoro is aiming for Kaido again this chapter yet he still can't take down the weakest commander?? Don't be stuck on powerscaling from 300 chapters ago in a series where it was stated that the crew grow stronger each island.
prediction for next chapter:

You think Kin'emon, Raizo, or Kiku can take down Jack? They also aimed for Kaido and got him good.
Love seeing the SHs together in a awesome spread.
I remember some time ago there were discussions about how long would Wano take to end, and this chapter reeeeeally gives me the feeling we're not even close to finishing. Everyone is so carefree and looking good. Can't wait for the tides to turn and we get some drama going!
You think Kin'emon, Raizo, or Kiku can take down Jack? They also aimed for Kaido and got him good.
In a surprise attack. I fully expect Zoro to perform better. I mean he could always come just to job but I doubt it.

Anyone can beat up Jack he is just a punching bag.
Gaimon could beat him up.
I like how Ulti suddenly disappeared this chapter. :getlost:

It not that simple because there nothing in the manga that show Jinbe for eg not on there level , he was warlord and you telling me he not commander level .
There is a reason they call them to fight WB i mean come on now , nothing Queen or King show more impressive that stopping Akainu fist with there hand .
And a confuse BM beat one of Kaido commanders easy and fought another Yonko for a day with no problem .
The SH plot armour saving them for now don't take away from that since luffy plot armour save him during the whole war with the 3 most powerful people in the marines .

I think one of Joy boy problems is looking down on the SH to much .
How can you think a warlord like Jinbe would be out class by a commander , have a hard fight yes but not outclass .
This is why I still love One Piece after so many years, while other shounen battle series eventually annoy me. Numbers matter. Surprise attacks matter. Big Mom is certainly stronger than any strawhat individually, but teamwork works to at least slow her down. Kaido is a monster, but in an entire arc dedicated to making a surprise attack possible, that surprise attack will actually do some damage. Too many shounen make numbers and tactics irrelevant as powerscaling goes out of control after every arc until it becomes just dumb. In One Piece at least, the scaling isn't hardcoded, and outside factors, tactics and ability synergy actually makes a difference. I eagerly await the next chapter already.

Nicely said, totally agree!
The chapter title makes more sense now that he sees the crew he's hitched his fate to standing there all proud and defiant. That twinkle in his eyes and the cut to the big spread is quite good at instilling a sense of confidence in the alliance
I have no interest in those Numbers and the quicker they get out of the picture the better.
Sanji with the suit off.. I'm expecting him to power up through pure force of will!
This chapter reminded me that I should give Thriller Bark another reread. Out of all the major arcs it's probably the one I'm least familiar with. The potential for a Straw Hat tag-team against King and Queen is a very unique option that pretty much no one predicted and I hope that it pans out. Franky's quote was icing on the cake.
Although, my worries of Kaido vs. the minks getting offscreened is growing stronger with every chapter. The fact that we've yet to see Inu and Neko using Sulong does give me hope that that won't be the case, but we'll see I guess.
Sometimes fans like to write off databooks, and there are certainly times where the creators don't seem to be on the same page as Oda, but Vivre Card came in the clutch here when it revealed that Oars Jr. was an ancient giant. Had we not had that, there'd be a fair bit of mystery over Big Mom's revelation about the Numbers. Though I wonder, why was the experiment a failure? The Numbers don't seem to have the mental faculty of a normal person, but they still look like quite the trump card. Looking forward to seeing Usopp take them down.
2005-2006 reloaded

It's kind of sad that some don't see the forest for the trees when it comes to Big Mom. She isn't losing to the strength of the Straw Hats, but their unparalleled diversity. From day one. The Swiss Army Knife of the Yonkou, with a dozen different powers, is getting dismantled by a crew with an equally crazy skillset.
We're not supposed to look down on Big Mom because she's made a fool, instead we should be acknowledging how varied, fun, exotic and unique our protagonists are. Just like Big Mom did in this chapter.
I can't wait to see what happens when she inevitably returns even angrier, how the crew will halt her advance in potentially hilarious ways. It's exciting, it entertains me. To the point that I can even forgive some inconsistencies - like Prometheus simply vanishing, while he should have been an arms length away.
Mind that this only concerns Big Mom as the secondary villain (or even tertiary, depending on Orochi's fate). I do comprehend why some posters have an issue with the treatment of [main villain] Kaido, but I would like to watch how things go a little longer before I judge.
So was Big Mom defeated?

When it comes to Kaido i more wondering if Oda going to off screen everything and then we get a small flash back when luffy get there.

That would be funny. If Luffy finally makes it up and all of Kinemon's forces are just wrecked, with Kaido laughing and then we flashback to what happened+Kaido's flashback.
Loved this chapter. Robin and Jinbe teaming up, I need more of that. And the spread with all of them was great, it's been so long since we've gotten something like that. Also very tantalizing, the potential of them all fighting together against the Calamities or what have you.
Oh boy the title of the chapter… we're in for a ride I think!
Chapter was fun and all, but not as great as I'd wish for that last doublespread to pay off completely. That said, I'm very excited for next chapter to see the crew making way for Luffy to get to Kaido.
I feel like the biggest problem with Big Moms "danger level" isn´t that she looks like a fool - because she doesn´t…
...it´s people being unable to deal with the fact that we´re not following the same crew anymore. This isn´t the crew that struggled with "guy who goes a little bit fast" and "guy who wears armor" anymore.
This is a crew that took down warlords, waged war with Yonkou, fought of Admirals, trained with legends and saved countries. Many of the enemies they´ve faced early in the series would have shat themselves if they heard that the Strawhats - like they are now - are out for them. It´s a crew that 99% of everybody who sails the seas would NOT try to mess with because they know they´re in another league.
The top fighters are absolute monsters and - way more important, even the absolute "weakest" members are still a very, very, VERY credible threat to most crews out there.
Big Mom is still leagues above them and she´s obviously above Luffy, too, but it´s also not a surprise that not even she can ignore and shrug off the Strawhats at this point. Hell, I´d bet my left asscheck that even Whitebeard, as much as I love the guy - seriously, he´s one of my favorite characters of all time - could ignore them...
They´re just too strong/crafty/clever at this point. There´s NO character in the entire series that could just swat them aside. unless of cause, Oda goes full-on Kaguya on Imu or someone similar and turns him into a literal god, way above the normal powerlevels of the series.
Wonder which dinosaur Hyo will take out
Oh boy the title of the chapter… we're in for a ride I think!
This. The alliance is about to get wrecked. Lol
I loved this chapter.
Numbers. They are my goofy boys. My dumb failgiants. They're great
Big Mom wins this week As The Best Yonkou (continuation from the spoiler thread). She's weird, funny and as Jinbei said, going to come back angrier than ever. Holy shit!
This arc has really done Yonkou's right. They are characters. For me, Whitebeard is becoming more of a distant, slighty boring, memory as time goes by. Oda nailed it with Kaido and Mom. They are weird, cool freaks.
I really like the Numbers, guys.
That last spread. Finally the focus goes where it should be, our crew.
Good stuff.
So is orochi is out of this war? He will only show up in cover story?
So, where is Page One? He should he running ahead of Ulti, but not only she got there before him, he never got there at all.
Oh well, I will assume he is just getting the Apoo treatment because Oda clearly got more characters to handle at the same time than he can. So:
So that is like another eight flying devil fruits huh
So flying devil fruits are androids and Pell is Trunks with the readers being Vegeta.
It's not pell fault he did not know they were going to be ADF in 2 and half years lol.
So ever since Water 7 we only saw one cat zoan and that's kind of annoys me.

This!
The SH now are a different crew than pre ts.
A lot of members here expect the final/end game to start after Wano, but the SH can't be an important part of it, if they are not able to hold their own against the top tiers in the (pirate) world. The SH have had stepped up their game or the New World would eat them up alive. Oda has speed up the pace (partly also because he wishes to end One Piece), but I imagine also because things will happen into quick succession. I even imagine the big party in Wano to be the last "slow down" before things speed up once again into a world-shaking storm.
@ Joy Boy and JohnTnaig
I have a question for you: How do you want to see the Yonkos being defeated?
Because Luffy stated his desire to defeat all Yonkos in Punk Hazard.
Do you wish for an extended training arc before the SH fight against a Yonko and their crew + allis?
Because the closed thing to a training arc we ever got to see was the end of After Marineford with Rayleigh starting to train Luffy and the rest of the crew starting their training in their designated places and here in Wano for some SH (Luffy in Udon, Zoro with Enma, Nami got Ninja-training from Shinobu) while the preparations for the raids were underway.
I'm just curios, because you are so vocal in how unhappy you are that the SH are able to stall a Yonko like Big Mom how you thought things would go.
On the matter of Big Moms defeat – and I will probably get ripped apart by more than one person – ever since that article from Morgans I thought that there is a possibility of the SH dethroning Big Mom by continuing to thrash her reputation as a Yonko by stalling her and/or evading her revenge instead of a purely (emphasizing purely) physical defeat with a fight (there is always a physical confrontation in the cards). A large part of the reputation of a Yonko is that if you mess with/anger them, they come after you merciless. If the SH continue to shit on Big Moms reputation, it will destroy her credibility as this unbeatable merciless top pirate.
But that would mean dragging Big Mom into future arcs, which I simply cannot see happening.
It's just a little theory of me…
New review!
Predictions for next chapter(s):
Expecting a Marineford "Help Luffy reach the platform" / "Get Vivi up the clock tower" type chapter with each of the straw hats taking the Whitebeard Pirates and former villain roles from Marineford keeping the Beast Pirates at bay so Luffy can get to the top. When he gets there the entirety of the minks and scabbards will have been defeated or be seconds away from total defeat. We'll get the inevitable Kaido / Yamato / Ace flashback and then we'll return to 30 minutes before everything at some point to get the fight with Kanjuro, where Drake's been hiding (calling Marines to the underground passage?), the Marco/Perospero exchange, the transformations of Neko and Inu and their defeat all in time to return to the present as Luffy and Kaido finally clash in chapter 1000.
Next chapter should also give us a better idea of who's fighting who – or at least before the enies lobby type bait and switches take effect. Glad that Queen and Zoro met, I've been wanting an interaction with them and I knew Oda couldn't resist a Kaku call back with them.
Wonder if Marco and Perospero won't end up occupiying Queen and King for a while. I'd prefer it to be Sunker and Sauron of course, but since Sanji and King just clashed, and M/P seem like to big fish to be wasted on any one else. And i can't see Pero going against mama either. So strawhats tag teaming BM, Hyo and the gang going at Pay Pay and the rest of them and M and P stalemating with King and Queen is my current hope
I loved this chapter.

Good stuff.
One thing I forgot is King and Queen. They had a nice teamwork moment.
Dino tag team. I hope they get good fights.
Oda has been neglecting the crew for almost a decade, only allowing Luffy and maybe Zoro to touch the big shots. (Last time Sanji did he got obliterated) It isn't that surprising that some readers have trouble seeing straw hats being anything but ants against the power ceiling of the One Piece world.
It's not ruining Wano for me, but I can't help but fee that the crew grow could have been more organic.
This is making a mockery of Big Mom. It's time she got serious and lets loose on everyone.
Maybe some real story in that cover story for once?
I do enjoy the humor or Shinobu and Momo being creeped out by Yamamoto and him running around claiming to be Oden.
Luffy and crew proving they are indeed the fifth emperor and crew as they are dealing with Mom and ignoring people like Queen. Franky continue to be great with the whole who cares if she's a yonko. And even Brook is cool as cucumber. And I like Jimbei response at the threat. Big mom is really not doing a good job being impressive. She feels more like a good commander ala Marco than a legend you dont want to mess with.
Im pretty sure the numbers are much shorter than oars. I like the this number. with the devil goat horns.
Nice spread.

I mean Oda went out of his way to help with that since Sanji and Zoro both got power up for this fight and Jinbe join.
You can also look at it the opposite way as the SH aside from luffy and i guess Sanji have not even had a fight to push them really .
Investing yourself so heavily in the villains and sort of rooting for them against the mains is sort of setting oneself up for disappointment in my opinion. The final ass whopping is coming pretty soon and as a reader you kind of have to make peace with that unless you want to be in a sour mood when the shounen protagonists bests the previously unbeatable foe
So flying devil fruits are androids and Pell is Trunks with the readers being Vegeta.
lmao at that android 19/Chaozu joke

I dunno, a great villain makes a great story. You know he will be defeated, but you expect him to be impressive until then.
But I don't mind what we are seeing so far. Oda is clearly lowering the tension with heroic moments and an attack plan that is working out. A writer usually does that just before the villains start being serious and everything goes awry for the protagonists. I'm sure Big Mom will be a beast when she comes back.
