Kingdom
-
-
The 2 biggest theories going around concerning the calling of the clerk have been that
- the king wants to move up Riboku's execution
- the king wants to change his heir (don't know if he can do this)
I have my own theory, but first I will illustrate where I got it from. I usually do this because even if the theory is wrong, others can take from the narratives and moments that they already thought about, didn't notice or just forgot about.
- Ousen and Kanki have been acting weird throughout the war. Both are weird in general, but there's been a focus on what kind of people they are since Koku You arc (Kanki) and this arc (Ousen)
- Ousen offered Riboku a partnership and specifically pointed out how Riboku is the main reason why Zhao hasn't gone to ruin and referred to those in power as "imbeciles" (ch 607)
- Riboku's efforts were thwarted by the leader of Zhao when he was imprisoned. He still had a chance to win the war
- Ousen has made remarks about who has the better pawns. In reference to what can determine the war. The thing is, a 3 Great Heavens candidate wasn't really an usable pawn in this (held back Yan, but not immediately involved) and is an example of the trash king holding Riboku back. Bananji even said Shi Ba Shou is formidable (ch 502)
I think that the king possibly made a deal with Ousen and seeing his son alerted him to make the final preparations for Ousen's arrival. Purposely tanking the war in many ways and Ousen having that much insight on how bad things were. Having Riboku imprisoned would make Ousen's arrival smooth because like he said, Riboku is the only thing keeping Zhao from ruin.
If this would happen, maybe Ousen extends the olive branch to Riboku. Riboku's camp is trying to free him. Riboku has stated why he wouldn't work with Ousen and that very reason is why Riboku couldn't accept Ousen as a leader or partner in any capacity.
This leaves the subtle clues. Shin has said multiple times that he really wants to defeat Riboku. Then there's the fact that Kanki has a couple men among the Akou army currently (ch 640). If Ousen was to make the jump to Zhao as the new ruler, would Kanki tag along or would he be against it? Planting men among Ousen's subordinate's might be a good start to keep tabs, but Ousen would definitely notice. This is why i'm not sure on this part.
It can all add up to nothing tho, just my thoughts anyway

Historically( read at your own peril),
! Riboku is going to defy Qin for another 7-8 years and also vanquish Kanki army and defeat Ousen's every effort to capture Kantan.

@Myu:
Are we still going paralel with history? You can spoiler tag me on this.
! In terms of major events, absolutely.
-
Chapter's out Now that I think of it, it was this sort of plot, not only the battles, that got me into Kingdom. No doubt Riboku will come back to annoy the hell out of us one way or the other, but right now I am quite enjoying the ride.
Also, if it weren't for the pointy eyebrows I would be completely unable to tell prince Ka apart from Ei Sei. -
Well, I didn't see that one coming but I have to say I like this development. Curious to see what happens next^^
-
645 spoilers
! Uh oh, more drama and conspiracy. Kid went from innocent to devilish smile with a slave as a ride lol
!
! -
The chapter is out Cocycent, click the link two posts above you.
-
He put the images in spoiler not to spoil someone clinking the thread. I assume.
Well I was way off with Kakukai. Damn chapter really makes you feel the weight of the punch. Here Zhao was on the turning point, about to pick themselves up and practically make it impossible for Qin to conquer them, but enter the comically villainous son. Seriously, that entry looked like a parody.
Hope there's bloodshed, nobody in their right mind should side with the satan boy.
-
Personally, I am fed up with this recurring black and white portrayal. Either the king is epitome of benevolence or a retarded shit. There can so many other type of characters for a king, but Hara won't deviate from his used formula.
! Since Riboku gonna live for another 7-8 years, I would prefer a partial coupe de tat.If he simply talks his way out, it would be funny. But that's what probably going to happen. A grand speech to sway the emotions of kid king and his mom and bid the crucial time.
-
Having royal family as rotten as that makes you wonder what Zhao people like Riboku are even doing with their lives.

Qi king is neither, and Chu king is at least level headed.
Having such an extreme father makes it more likely you end up as him or the extreme opposite though. -
I doubt it happens, but I wouldn't mind a State of Ai like arc. That is still the best arc for me.
-

That's how the story goes; in real world of that era, I bet there was far less loyalty.

Qi king is neither, and Chu king is at least level headed.
Having such an extreme father makes it more likely you end up as him or the extreme opposite though.Former Chu king, whom Hara got rid of already. I will give you the Qi one though. That guy is a mass of contradiction if we ever had another in this manga.
-
Riboku's suffering is enjoyable.
-
Couldn't resist to post this meme from Reddit.:ninja:
!
-
New chapter spoiler. Huge twist.
! Ka refused to accept the will of former king. He fled with Riboku, but before that managed to slain most of Kakukai's loyal subordinate. He had his men guarding the royal palace.
-
Well didn't expect things to go that far.
But am sure the resistance will start to swell after things have started to settle and the devil child starts showing his special qualities. Plenty of possible allies, like that dude Shibashou who was offered a seat in Three Great Heavens but used illness as an excuse. That dude probably didn't have much love for late king either.
-
Damn, poor Riboku.
-
I do not feel bad for the guy because the author has done a poor making him a sympathetic figure. Using caricatures like the late king of Zhao and Kakukai to antagonize him feels cheap and hollow.
-
I've always liked Riboku and this made me like him even more. The focus on him feels good after the Houken mess.
-
Well the situation seems dire for him, but it's a narrative exaggeration. We all know both Riboku and Ka are well respected and will get plenty of support. Just a long and hard day.
-
This chapter actually made me feel bad for Riboku. Goddammit.
-
We all know both Riboku and Ka are well respected and will get plenty of support. Just a long and hard day.
All of the princes notable supporters have been slaughtered and his brother seems to be firmly in power. Prince Ka himself has lost any will to struggle on.
And besides, Zhao simply does not have time for this kind of succession conflict with a massive hostile army inside their own borders.

I think that the scene at the end is quite effective enough by itself without really thinking about the king(s) that antagonize him. Sympathetic or not no one can deny that he's been a constant antagonist to the main cast for all those years and he was quite dedicated at doing his job. Even if it sometimes involved stuff like asspull teleport appearances over the battlefield the dedication to his homeland always was a given. And after all that he's at this point where he is not. I mean I don't like Riboku much but I can totally see that a person would be fatigued at this point which is a totally relatable feeling to IMO. I find the last few pages actually quite strong because you see Riboku in the same pose for several panels without him moving an inch which really shows just how tired he is of all this. I he a sympathetic character? Honestily I'm kinda indifferent here. But are his current feelings relateble? To me they absolutely are.

He is supposed to be this legendary genius strategist but the author has done a poor job portraying him. It does not help that a lot of the characters that surround him like Kaine, Futei and Houken are just plain irritating, bland and boring. He has overstayed his welcome and i wait for the day where we move on to possibly more interesting antagonists.

Oh I'm not disagreeing on you that he's overstayed his welcome. Just saying that the feeling of fatigue he feels here is somewhat relateble.

Yes, prince's supporters from the capital have. But there are still other Riboku's colleague generals who will possibly side with him, as well as other potential members of the court.
Or are you suggesting Riboku and Ka are done for? Because that's definitely not happening, not for Riboku anyway.
-

Riboku may not be done for, but everything he has been fighting for pretty much is.
Maybe he will find support outside the capital, but that still means a likely brutal civil war.
Even if somehow the Qin will not be able to use it to destroy Zhao right away, the kingdom would still emerge so very much weakened that it would not stand any chance to resist anymore. You have to remember, how many campaigns and battles it already had lost in the last years and how many of its best generals and warriors. Now the ones still standing will kill each other in front of the Qin
Essentially, Zhao is finished.
Riboku might accept that and just give up.
Or try to reconcile with the new king, who by all accounts will be a horrible ruler and lead the country straight into the abys.
Or add a civil war to the countries woes, which wont change anything apart from weakening Zhao even more. -

! Ryoooooooooooooooooooofui!
-
I'm more interested in
! Shibashou.
-
I completely forgot that Ryofui was still alive.
-
Better than me. I completely forgot who he was…
-
I almost forgot Riboku isn't the main character for a moment there.
I like how direct Shunsuiju is. Just ride in Kantan and slaughter the king. I was rooting for that option, lol.
And so glad we finally get to meet Shiabashou. Errm, sometime soonish maybe?
-
New chapter is out.
Loved the final twist. For once, Hara seems to have picked up the pace. -
Great chapter, I loved it. Almost as great as 424
! Yes, talk to this fool, Ryofui. He's too soft. When they talk to each other, I forget all the other characters exist. If you want to unite China via war, you gotta let go of some of that kindness.
! I love this. This shows true respect in the rivalry
! Damn, I might have to update my top 5 characters and add Ryofui. -
Really liked the chapter

-
Wasn't it implied before that Ryofui was his real father?
Yeah, I think Ryofui shut that down tho
-
Yeah, he discarded that idea after counting how much it took for Ei to be born.
-
Well, neat that he got a happy end.
But for all intents and purposes, he may as well be dead. Doubt he'll have a significant role in the future, if any.
-
! Fuck Katan, let's focus on Chu now. Featuring Wei.
-
! I think there's only 2 Fire Dragons left. Will Wei lose forces during the Zhao invasion before they can go for Juuko City?
-
This post is deleted!
-
After being put off at first, I realized I actually like these Chu generals, lol.
-
At long last, finally some Moubu action.
-
At last a general who's prepared to ditch strategy out the window and charge like a madman from the get go !
Gotta say, the butt-naked Chu guys caught me unaware . I rather like them, though. Hopefully they will be more entertaining than bloody stupid Riboku & Houken. -

Oh yeah, this will be fun.
