Well, for example, Barack Obama is mixed, but still Kenyan. Almost every African country has a plethora of mixed kids and different skin tones due to colonization and visiting. There are Japanese/Liberians, Irish/Nigerian, etc. It's acting.
I've seen fully white people play religious figures that weren't the same color based on facts. If they did pick a Kenyan actor that wasn't mixed and could pull it off, it's possible. Unless there's an Anna Diop/Starfire issue.
Anna plays an alien named Starfire in Titans. The comics has her as a tanned alien. When the casting was announced, people lost their minds. Not only was Anna darker than the comics version, the cartoon (Teen Titans) version was a little lighter than the comics. Anna has put on some of the best performances in the show and some have changed their mind on their initial jerk reaction. The 3rd season is coming and people ship and make fan art of her.
Yes, Usopp is mixed, but I don't think the performer needs to be to capture the role visually.
I think it's cool that they are seemingly trying to adhere to the countries Oda specified for the Strawhats, but I hope they don't treat it as a must-have. One Piece doesn't take place in the real-world. Nami isn't from Sweden, Usopp isn't from Kenia. It's fun if they try to get actors from these parts of the world, but it's much more important to me that they cast actors that are able to capture the personalities of these characters well. Any of the main cast could be black or white, imo.
An exception would be if the characters stem from a place that is very clearly heavily inspired by an actual real-life country, like Wano. They definitely should go for Japanes actors for that. But aside from that, just choose the actor that is best suited for the role.

Yes, performance is everything. Everyone of the SH crew has a great personality. I'm a lil afraid of how Luffy is handled performance wise, but optimistic as well.
I've seen great make up and prosthetic used in Doom Patrol. Usopp's nose should be feasible. If Arlong Park arc is part of the 1st season, will that be CGI or makeup/prosthetic? The visual aspect in this will be tricky
I know Jahking from Black Lightning. He has the hair for Usopp, if styled a lil different, but his acting is a lil stiff.
I'd opt for the other 3 because i'm less familiar with their work and I like "fresh faces". Not fresh because they are new, but because I just haven't seen them before. I'll look for clips of their work

I've always liked her for it, but she's in her late 20s which could complicate things as seasons progress.

Good scene,altough i still have some doubts (but i will probably have doubts for all the characters until i will watch the first episode,to be honest haha). We'll see if she is the one they hired and how she will go.
I looked at a few other videos that channel has of her, she'd make a decent Robin actually. Although, I'd prefer an actress that has some hispanic roots. She'd probably be a great Koala way down the line, but by the point they make it to Dressrosa she'd probably be in her late 30s.

I think one thing the series could do to save money is to have him in heavy point instead of brain point as his "default" state. If the default state stays as brain point, it could be a midget in an animatronic costume with light CGI touchups.
In any case, there could be two actors and one reindeer to play his various forms, or one actor and CGI for the other forms.

I had fun watching this, I see Robin's eyes are set as blue as in the anime which I hope they won't get as a base, but I saw a lot of actors which would be spot on, like Alan Ritchson/Franky, Justice Smith/Usopp and Elle Fanning/Kaya (I can't talk about others' acting qualities as I don't know or remember many of them).
I think they should go with less known people, this serie could become something big and their names could get directly associated to their character for many years so it's better having fresh faces. I hope they'll decide just on how good a person is in portrating the character and how much similarity ther is in appearance, and not follow some stupid country constraint.
I hope they are thinking in terms of making something really successful and well done, but I don't have the impression they are giving to this project the right importance reading about budget and almost improvised castings. Maybe it's because I can't recall a well done live action from a manga, but I'm afraid they're going to blow this chance.

I'm pretty sure its gonna be the latter with one main actor and CGI for the rest, Chopper flips from one point to the next so quickly they would have to CGI it but they could have him like you said in his Jump Point as his default point with the actor in a Reindeer costume. His Jump Point is more average Human size and could pass for a teenager rather than Heavy Point

I was watching the Umbrella academy and the monkey buttler CGI was VERY well done, it looked so natural
So I think they could have Chopper in Brain point and have as you guys said, a small person doing the motion capture and acting as his stand witht the other actors, replaced by Chopper later in post production.
I think with the budget they will have it can be done.
I'm more worried about the silly one piece aspect, like, the dumb nyan brothers, there are things that dont translate well in live action, I hope they make everything darker with a touch of nakamaship and comedy, with deaths more real (like, Pell has to die)

The show will already be using most of it's VFX budget on the environments. Any exterior shooting will need to remove inaccurate buildings and technology. That's going to take a lot of time. Not to mention the stage work which will primarily be set pieces with a green or blue screen wrap around. Think Baratie, They'll build a giant platform for the Gin / Sanji and Krieg fight, but the walls will be all blue and green screen. Chances are they may not even work with water underneath them. Hopefully they take some cues from Titanic with a scene like that, likely they will. But it will be expensive.
Umbrella Academy was a pretty terrible show IMO but the monkey butler was done well-- keep in mind that the reason it was done so well was likely that it appeared in the entire first season maybe 5 times at best for an entire season total of perhaps less than 10 minutes of collective screen time.

I'm actually at episode 6 of Umbrella Academy and I find it enjoyable, but I dont have the actual comic to compare it too. Maybe that'll happen to OP too, maybe newcommers will like it and the people that comes from Anime Manga will dislike any change

She could also be playing coy in order not to reveal anything, I mean she dyed her hair tangerine orange to match Nami's hair something quite massive to do only for an audition. But all we can do is wait till the 23rd. I really want Xolo Maridueña to be Luffy tho he would be perfect and he's the only one I can see for Luffy, but I did find another actor who would fit the bill his name is Pedro Henrique.

I’m expecting the live action to be cancelled before it hits Drum Island. I can’t imagine Chopper not looking terrible. They’d have to get such a brilliant team of artists and CGI masters to make him look halfway decent. Maybe the team who handled Detective Pikachu, but they’ve have to work to make him realistic and blend with the other characters well (not stuck out as CGI so much). It seems like a headache just to think about.
