? Yeah, that was kind of my point. If the second one hasnt been announced yet then that worries me. Like honestly at this point it feels like they're just gonna hold on to everything else until we leave quarintine in like a decade.
-
That’s probably the case. Looks like we’re not getting the DVD until October at the earliest. I wish the digital releases would just keep up, but there hasn’t been a peep about any more episodes. Personally, I think we’re in for another half a year hiatus.

I was talking about digitally. It's just so infuriating how they refuse to release episodes they've had finished for years. Thought they were done with this but no everything about their release scgedule must be annoying as possible.
-
I don’t get it, either. I’ve never understood why they can’t be a little more transparent and communicative.
-
I had access to Netflix earlier today at my father's house, so I flipped on One Piece to see how it looked.
Oh god, the video footage was HORRIBLE. I knew they were using the cropped "special edition" episodes, but I was horrified at how the picture looked.
The English dub uses the English songs, but the video footage is pure, uncut Japanese, with Japanese credits intact. Episode 1 even had the original "TO BE CONTINUED" in actual Japanese, which we didn't even get on the DVDs here.
There were no English credits at all.

Yeahh, it looks like toei wanted them to use the special editions but where to lazy to remake the english credits to fix them. It's literally exactly the same as what aired on tv, minus the eye catchers.

I remember someone mentioning the eye catchers had been cut, but I didn't even realize while I was watching that they were missing. Maybe that explains a strange jump cut from one scene to another that felt off to me. I didn't even realize it was happening.

When funimation gets to Wano, they should hire this lady to sing the theme song. Wish they were still doing that. She does an amazing job.
-
I just got through marineford, and yeah while Mike generally does better work calling Joel bad is a huge disservice to him. There were so many great scenes in marineford, even if things like ZEEhaha and saKAzuki annoy me sometimes.

She sounds amazing, I miss the dub OP's, I wonder if they can start dubbing them again since they dubbed the Dragon Ball Super OPs & ED's

It's probably not funis fault, toei all around has pushed for the use of sub openings for awhile. It was said that OP 5 not being dubbed was merely a time issue and they planned to continue, and I have a strong feeling the reason they didnt is cuz of toei.

You're right that "bad" is probably too strong wording. I'd say "not detail-oriented" and "too willing to accept first takes and serviceable performances." There's a line in the first PH episode where Zoro makes a joke. Luffy says it's hot and Zoro replies that it's probably the fire. But Sabat's performance doesn't seem to recognize the joke, and it falls flat. Mike's the type to hone that performance to make the joke really work. I'm always laughing way more when Mike directs, and since comedy is a HUGE part of OP, that counts for a lot.
In any case, I'll be curious to see how the new directors do. Who knows, we might be missing Joel this time next year.

I mean Kyle already directed episode of east blue. That sounded great, even if some of the performances were hindered by the specials pacing. Also worth mentioning that he has done a lot of engineer work for it. Anthony Bowling is a wild card though.

Someone doing the engineering and working with Mike gives them a huge head-start. Learning at the master's side. What other directors at Funi do people tend to love? I was a huge fan of the Ping Pong dub. I think that was Christopher Bevins, and he's worked on OP before, too.

Actually believe it or not I don't watch that many anime so I don't really know for sure, adr directors are underappreciated in general.Althpough Mcfarland is generally beloved even outside of one piece, he has directed well regarded dubs such as attack on titan and wolf children, and Chris Sabat is generally loved just because how much dragon ball he has directed. Looked up what Kyle has directed and he has directed things like dragon maid, overlord, and the highly praised ace attorney dub. As for Bowling some of his major titles are Love Live!, Free!, and YU-NO. None of which I have ever seen lol.

So y'all know how funimation has that digital con coming up? Well for whatever reason it says it's adding new home video products to the funimation shop while its up, including season 10 voyage 1? Despite it already being out?

Idk if you mean funimation con or just the thing that lists what I said but here you go https://www.funimation.com/blog/2020/06/18/funimationcon-2020-aniplex-of-america-viz-media-and-rightstuf-join-the-party/ . Just odd, I think others may be already released so idk why it says its adding it for the con. Regardless in case you don't know theres gonna be a one piece VA panel, so that'll be interesting.

I just checked the Funimation store, and the set is still available on there, so who knows what they're on about.
-
Who knows. Maybe we’ll see a new set go up for an earlier date than we expect. I’ll certainly be paying attention to this con. Only a week or two away.

I highly douby we will get any news, especially a date for a set. That never happens, it would just go up with other preorders.

They've never had their own digital convention before, so there's no grounds to say either way.

What? The fact that it's digital is irrelevant. Business wise they put preorders up a certain amount beforehand to boost sales, if it were coming soon it would already be up for preorder, announcing it a con makes literally zero sense.

They used to announce at cons, actually. A few years back. I was in the room Anime Expo when they announced Thriller Bark Voyage One. It's true that they've stopped announcing at conventions, but they've never had their own convention before, so they might want to add to the appeal of it by saving a few announcements for the con–to help drum up excitement for this con and future cons. Also, S10V1 went up on the website over a month after solicitations for the month it was released in. So it's entirely reasonable to think they could put up the V2 listing for September next week--only two weeks after the September solicits landed. They've also announced things early before; they could announce it for October at the con. Anything is possible: FunimationCon is a new thing, and we don't know what to expect.
That said, it's always smart to keep your expectations low with Funimation. But don't say it makes zero sense when it's entirely possible.

The last time it was a month later because it went up with the july solicits. They did a month later but it still went up when the other solicits did. If they announce it at a con again, which I highly doubt, it will be for a month where solicits have not gone up yet. I can assure you funimation con isnt gonna be any different announcement wise than a normal con, it's literally only a thing because of quarintine.
-
I mean, feel free to be certain, but it's just speculation.
-
One thing I'm curious about, is licensing of the dub effected by toei funding it? Like for the anime at least, it wouldn't make sense for funi to have to pay to license further episodes if toei is funding it anyway, but I'm not entirely sure how it works. From where they segment the seasons on funi now we know they at least licensed to the end of dressrosa beforehand, but it would be nice if them picking up further episodes wasnt a concern anymore.
-
Welp been 2 months now and still no news of any official date on the next eps in any way shape or form. Like come on you can't act like you're going to do a speed up, make releases even slower than before, and do nothing to aknowledge it whatsoever. Not to mention that even assuming the dvds are delayed cuz not being able to record or extras or whatever, you can easily release the dozens of already finished episodes online. With sets before they were apart by 2-3 months but because of how far ahead preorders were you almost always had a date for the next one. Really tired of these games, I would be much more content with accepting its out of their control if it was aknowledged in literally any capacity.
-
I hear you’re new to Funimation. Welcome to the party!

? I was mostly remarking in how it's worse than before though. Again we previously usually had dates, and this didnt literally happen right after a huge hiatus

Man you guys whine a lot.

it's not a lot of good news that happens in this thread to be fair lmao

It's almost like there's a deadly plague going on that's slowing everything down.
Relax. -

Relax. To be fair, we were complaining about the lack of communication, which has nothing to do with the pandemic.

This is a thread specifically about this topic. If theres nothing positive happening relating to it, we're going to be negative.

Relax.Did you even read what I said? 1. We know they are sitting on tons of already done episodes. I see no reason not to release them.
2. If there IS a reason, they should be communicative enough to tell us. They have given dead silence and acted like everything is normal when it clearly isn't, that is what is frustrating. -
I am going to sugest something wild…why dont we close the thread and reopen it when there are actual news?
-
I am going to sugest something wild…why dont we close the thread and reopen it when there are actual news?
No? We have plenty to talk about outside of good news. And folks who don’t want to talk don’t need to post.
-
I am going to sugest something wild…why dont we close the thread and reopen it when there are actual news?
We can still have discussion about existing content and speculation. That was done for like… 2 years.
-
Oh ok. I just made a suggestion. Didnt mean to impose or anything.
-
I'll agree there's a bit too much of the same topic happening during downtime
-
One thing I've always find kind of interesting, out of all official translations In pretty sure 4kids is the only one to use Jinbe instead of jimbei, which I fond kind of ironic. Granted they only ever referred to him once.
-
Man, how does anyone even remember the 4Kids nuances. I watched them all when they aired, but man have I blocked all those memories out.
-
FWIW, 4Kids used "Jinbei" (in their subs, at least) and Funi uses "Jimbei".
!

Oh no I've actually only been a one piece fan since 2018. I just so happened to hear that recently.

https://i.imgur.com/qL5dKGS.pngBy their subs you mean like dubtitles right? Anyways I don't think it makes that much of a difference. The I is simply added to specify pronunciation in english, and reall nb and mb are such similar noises that it practically makes no difference. I just found this little tidbit interesting as they were technically more accurate. Not sure what odex used though.
-
I LOVE how despite seemingly using his actual name their mishandling of Bellemere botched EVERYTHING about the actual character of Jinbe before he even appeared.
-
4Kids! also called Robin's "cursed fruit" the "Hana-Hana Fruit", but it makes more sense to use English translations, I suppose. FUNimation of course uses "Flower-Flower Fruit".

What do you mean it makes more sense than other translations? It literally just doesnt translate it
-
@Blake:

No, I mean it makes more sense in the context of an English dub to translate it like FUNimation did. 4Kids!, as far as I can remember, translated all other devil fruits (minus Gum-Gum, if you want to be technical).
-
Gum Gum IS translated. I think you mean localized. Also it is odd that in 4kids Different Models of any given fruit didnt exist. They were just given different names I think.
-
@Blake:
By their subs you mean like dubtitles right?
Yeah, the SDH subtitles on their DVDs.
Odex apparently used Jinbei, same as 4Kids. They also use "Seven Sea Warriors".
