! Who would win in a fight? Kobeni's car or Midoriya's shoe?
Chainsaw-man
-
-
That is so fittingly fun. I cannot describe how much it represents the randomness of this series.
-
I want a poster with character no 7 in a swimsuit.
I love early popularity pools, before it descends into a Hitsugaia-fest.
-
! Who would win in a fight? Kobeni's car or Midoriya's shoe?
! Kobeni's car killed an immortal bro, what have Midoriya's shoe ever done?
-
Denji is too raw and “pure” to be a proper escapist shonen hero I guess, that is one of the strengths of the series tho. Most series without the protagonist at the forefront of the popularity race are unfocused, and could descend into pandering, but Power is not the kind of character that can really take central protagonist (think misogi from medaka box, who also got no 1 in popularity, got his own cool chapters and development, but as a troll and a whimsical hedonistic character they can’t really drive the plot for too long without losing what makes them special) so other than a few color pages, and the bikini car, I think that chainsawman will be safe.
-
This is really amazing when you take into account how recent the 7th place was introduced. I foresee great things for him… or her.

! >no cute noble prize intellect fiend gf. Why live.
-
Bullshit. Violence is dead already? He barely did anything.
-
The Chainsaw steed, the best bro Beam is also dead. And Kobeni resigned, again., I think this is a running gag.
Once you go Darkness you never go back. -
For some reason I was harboring the hope that whatever happened in Hell would be reversed somehow but it clearly didn't… Aki losing one of his arms is tragic indeed but losing Sharkbro just like that is... it's just not fair :/
Other than that this chapter ended up being incredibly emotional. What a weird ride the author is taking us on every week~
-
Considering that this is VIOLENCE, I doubt it wouldn't be recycled in hell soon. It probably survived in this human host so long because he was using the pacifying drugs, in hell it would attack any demon and get offed prety fast.
-
This chapter felt way heavier than I think it was intended, maybe it triggered some of my Fire Punch PSTD because despite its humor bits it felt really gloomy - kinda like the scene with Denji and Himeno on her veranda, you could foresee how tragically that would end.
Also, I need to give it to Denji. As funny as he could be sometimes, he didn't seem to be as interesting as the manga itself is. But I think Fujimoto is doing a really good job with him. Usually when a protagonist needs to go from asshole to sympathetic, particularly if we are talking about the protagonist, all it takes is the first chapter. He meets the character who will become his BFF and/or love interest and suddenly he cares. Usually you don't even remember he was not always a person who lived for his friends unless you keep checking that first chapter.
But with Denji, things are taking their time to actually be convincing. We passed the 70 chapter mark and Denji is still trying to adapt to the fact he is not a completely selfish person. There was enough time for the old Denji not feel like a quick note, but actually the real character, so this slow change that started with Reze is actually working.
Also I love the fact the guy is ugly af and nothing seems to be changing that. -
I must be forgetting the significance of that closed door at the end. Can anyone fill me in please?

It's apparently a door that it's inside Denji's heart.

It will also probably reveal some info about the former chainsaw and why everyone wants his heart I reckon.

! Another peaceful chapter.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The barf bond is too strong.
-
I will never forgive the official release for omitting the caption at the end ("baptism through vomit").
Anyways, this manga is getting so good. It has been damn entertaining since day one, but it is becoming real good.
-
I always enjoy these peaceful chapter. The one where Makima and Denji are on a date spending the whole day just watching movies at the theatre is simply a classic.
-
^the sad part about that is that those chapters are often the prelude for something really bad happening (eg. the gang getting ripped to shreds by the Gun devil)
-
There is something about this manga that make it so fun to read especially the relax chapters. The manga is so simple and great at the same time I love it

Do you mean the sword devil right? Wasn't that just after that arc while they were mourning… Honestly I only have memorized Makima's and Denji's name, and Power is a freebie, so when they were in mourning of eyepatch smoking lady?

Nah I'm referring to what's to come. Aki may have turned down the chance to join the Gun devil mission but I'm not buying it. This peaceful atmosphere (ie everyone happily barfing lol) can't be forever.
-
They can't escape the Gun Devil, the whole story revolves around him/her/it? There is still a bounty on Denji's heart by the Gun Devil. Considering this new relationship Power will probably be kidnapped to lure Denji to come to them now that going after Denji didn't work.
-
It might also be to late for Aki to a voice in it. I wouldn't be surprised if their presence in the mission was mandatory now.
-
Makima is really the one in charge and not Kishibe when on the surface it looks like they are supposed to have equal standing in the organization. She has ears everywhere and is most likely already planning how to involve them by force.
-
“Force” heh “Denji, could you please do this? Bring your friends”
-
True but we see how Makima is slowly losing influence as Denji learns to have more agency. Turning down a personal vacation with her to stay so that he could take care of a traumatized Power is proof of this. Reze was taken out of the picture but the seeds she planted in Denji's mind were not. He is starting to look beyond breasts, food and a roof over his head. How she will react to her "dog" being unleashed will be interesting.

As cliche as it sounds probably the case. Or I'd rather power just die, denji throwing all fucks out the window and opening that door.

These /a/ character status never miss to amuse me:
[hide][/hide] -
HAHAHA it's really something
-
[hide]As I thought, something tragic is about to happen.
In other news, the Gun devil's been caught already (imagine the power of his conqueror…) and has been split in massive chunks. And defeating it basically means collecting it and controlling its vast power. Welp, didn't see that one coming.

! The question is who or what defeated the Gun Devil and just left it lying around? Also, devils can be killed and sent to hell but it shows how powerful the Gun Devil is if it still can't be killed.
! Honestly, considering how devils get stronger the more people fear them and the Gun Devil would be inconceivably strong, why the heck does Denji seem so strong? Chainsaws aren't very high on, or even show up on peoples' fear lists as far as I know. -
! Guns can bring a quick clean death, being mauled by a chainsaw on the other hand would be terrible gruesome.I wage the fear it's no on the object itself, but on the atrocities it can be used to do.
-

Maybe the Chainsaw devil killed a few devils, then devils started being afraid of him, he got stronger and killed even more devils, the devils became even more afraid…
-
That's reasonable. In all reality the whole idea for the manga probably just started with "Wouldn't it be cool if I drew a character with chainsaws coming out of his body." Then because he is the main character he had to be considerably strong and bad-ass.

Devils are products of cultural fear. In America there might be a powerful Communism devil (though whether it'd represent communism or the collective terror of loss of autonomy that that fear represents to the average American isn't obvious). In Korea there might be a Fan Devil(?), in Japan a Kappa or Fuujin devil, etc. Cultural artifacts like iconography, media, stories, anything that affects the collective unconscious biases of a group could serve to empower a devil.
In all of these cases, the devil would be the product of that collective fear. But what community do devils have? What shared terrors? Culturally, there is only one canonical slayer of evil beings, be they demons or otherwise, and that's the Chainsaw:
!
!
!It's possible that the Chainsaw's culturally iconic role as a slayer of demons gives it power over devils. It's possible that devils themselves fear the chainsaw for this reason (as timeco suggests). The fact that the Gun Devil was apparently found cut up into pieces lends some credence to the notion that the original Chainsaw did it, maybe dying in the process. The timelines might even line up, since that happened a bit ago and we don't know how old Pochita is. Could easily be the child or rebirth of the chainsaw after the fight.
It also raises the question - since what people likely fear more than anything in this universe plagued by devils is devils themselves - is there a Devil Devil? Did it kill the Gun Devil?
-

Remember when Denji found Pochita, there is a gun like wound in Pochita's belly.
-
I don't think chainsaw is usually the first thing that comes to mind when asked what do you fear?
I mean yes in a cultural Hollywood video game context , it had it's moments.
In the case of this manga, I am more inclined to believe that rather than chainsaw being scary as shit, Pochita as a devil is just an outliner
In the sense that he disobey the conventional laws(popular fear=powerful) and just wreck shit up enough that he's infamous so that he's above and beyond the pyramid. -
Future devil is a chump, and infinity devil is weak because it can only cause anxiety, not actual fear. Meanwhile doll devil was a hive mind and the bomb devil was truly scary powerful, outclassing a tornado/thyphoon devil in frigging Japan
I dare to say that radioactivity and earthquake devils have been banned by editorial devil, to keep controversy on battles that the editorial department is ready to battle. Also editorial and deadlines devils are prime omake material.
And then there is the clown devil.
Honestly, it is either Makima or poocytha who beat the gun devil.
-
What devils could be potentially powerful? Darkness and Hell were good picks. Loneliness and Insanity devils would be the ones I want to check the most - would be cringe anywhere else, but Fujimoto would probably do amazing things with them. Old Age devil. Being a Disappointment to your Parents devil, particularly strong in Japan. Death devil despite how obvious it is (or exactly because of it) would probably beat anything else.
-
Controversy, but:
Is Best > Rules.
-
Would be screwed up but in this day and age COVID-19 devil would be unstoppable.

Unknown Devil.
Fear of the unknown is one of the strongest throughout humanity history.
Pretty sure its considered a primal fear.

Yeah, but the unknown isn't really a thing. I don't think anyone sits around thinking "The unknown is so scary, I don't actually know what it is because it is unknown, but it is scary."
Before people had traveled the world they feared sailing off into the "unknown" because they didn't know what other places or people were out there or if they'd fall off the edge of the world.
A fear of the dark is really a fear of the "unknown" things that could be lurking in the dark.
The fear of making an important decision is that it is "unknown" which decision will lead to a better outcome.
The fear of encountering some animal you have never seen before and know nothing about is because it is "unknown" to you what it might be capable of. I think one reason people fear snakes so much is because they know snakes can be venomous but do not know how to tell. There are a few venomous snakes where I live but I'm not scared of snakes because if I see one that has a certain pattern I double-check the head shape and eyes to confirm if it is venomous. Recently happened with a small copperhead outside the garage.

.Which is why I rank it as one of the strongest if not the strongest fear. It is all encompassing.

Back when Denji was obsessed with touching boobs I could have not guessed that the series could get so emotional, but damn, it can. I feel bad for people that dropped it back then, though I understad why they did.
-
Well, the prospect of Denji chainsaw action always held me in. And then all the other stuff happened, which was quite as good.
-
Yeah, action and entertaiment wise, the series has always been good, but some people need to get invested in the characters to follow a series. I have seen lots of people saying that they liked seeing the characters interact, but didn´t care about them as individuals. The later arcs have changed that and what´s better is that it was a natural change, at least it felt that way to me.

I actually like how whenever Denji achieves one of his perverted goals, it's never actually fulfilling for him.
