I can't wait for April 14th for the new season.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K)
-
-
Despite the fact that he's only about a dozen years younger, Oswalt definitely looks like he could be Frank Conniff's kid.
-
is Patton Oswalt's character named TV's Frank's Son
i hope he is
-
"Son of TV's Frank" actually.
-
that's actually better and I love it
-
When do we meet Bride of TV's Frank or do we just assume that Son is a clone Forrester made on a slow Tuesday.
-
-
Reports from early screenings are that the first new episode at least is a total hoot, and that the new guys playing Tom and Crow are a great fit.
SO yaye!
-
Trailer for the new season is out.
-
The new season starts this Friday on Netflix; Kickstarter backers can stream them starting Tuesday and download them Thursday.
-
I'm a backer for the revival Kickstarter, so I got to stream the first new episode in advance last night. It was a total hoot. Jonah is a natural. The sets and effects look great while still having the expected homemade MST3K look. The choice in movie (Reptilicus) was perfect, and the good riffs just kept shooting out like a burst fire hydrant.
Can't wait for the rest of the season to hit Netflix.
-
The new season is:
Reptilicus
Cry Wilderness
The Time Travelers
Avalanche
The Beast of Hollow Mountain
Starcrash
The Land That Time Forgot
The Loves of Hercules
Yongary - Monster From the Deep
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom I and II
Carnival Magic
The Christmas That Almost Wasn't
At The Earth's Core -
Nice to see the tradition of Hercules movies on MST3K will continue in the new season.
-
Jonah and the bots riff Stranger Things:
-
! Reptilicus found the one pagoda in Denmark.
-
! I'm on the second episode now, and it's the one that's won me over. I know this is a cliche, but once I saw the raccoons whack the propane tank than I knew everything would be okay.
-
This show got me with the Kaiju rap in episode 1
-
I got a chance to watch the first two episodes of the new season tonight. Both episodes that I watch so far were great. Cry Wilderness in my opinion is going to be a classic for years to come in my opinion. To me it have a ton of the craziness that I love about The Final Sacrifice but more. Multiple times in Cry Wilderness I was crying of laughter.
! I did like cameo from Pearl, Bobo, and the Brain guy in Cry Wilderness.
-
Reptilicus was absolutely a great way to start the season and Cry Wilderness was an instant favorite for me.
really, really liking the new season so far
-
Reptilicus was pretty good (and the Kaiju rap was great), but, as others have said, Cry Wilderness was really something. I also saw Land That Time Forgot with family over the weekend and we had a blast watching it.
On the nitpicky side, though
-I feel like the jokes sometimes come too rapidly and too frequently. Like, you need to give the audience a chance to laugh and be ready for the next one and, yes, sometimes that means sacrificing a few jokes.
-The sets for the sketch segments aren't very interesting. They all seem to be in really small confined rooms shot at a flat angle
-I'm not sure how I feel about Servo's new voice. I mean, Kevin Murphy voiced him for almost the entire run of the original show, so he's a tough act to follow. And Baron Vaughn does a good job and gives that same bravado to Servo's voice that Kevin did, but…man, the two sound nothing alike.
-Gypsy's new voice, however, I'm fine with. It's nice to finally give her an actual woman's voice as a change of pace. Though I'm not sure what the point is of her randomly appearing once or twice in each episode to comment (and what's that bucket thing she keeps grabbing?)But, make no mistake, I'm still really enjoying the new season and it's great to have the show back.
-
I've watched a couple of them so far.
Like most people have noted, the jokes sometimes come so fast that they're sometimes talking over each other and don't really get a chance to sink in like some of them need to. Plus the invention exchanges just don't work for me but they never really did anyway.
I like the cast and the movie selection.
-
I watch episodes 3 - 5 of the new season tonight. The episodes were pretty good. Avalanche is another classic episode in my opinion.
! Avalanche have too many funny moments in my opinion. Neil Patrick Harris cameo was really good. The best part of the episode was when the Cheerleader going into the kitchen after the Avalanche scene, because what happen I didn't expect it to happen and it was really funny.
The entire new cast is continuing to get better with each of these episodes. From what I watched so far Kinga and Max are just as great as Clayton, Frank, and Pearl.
-
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom is my favorite ep so far. Can't wait to see the sequel tonight.
-
I watch episodes 6 and 7 of the current season of MST3K tonight.
Wow….. Starcrash.... just wow... that movie was on the level of Laserblast. I don't know what else to say.
-
Netflix renewed MST3K for another season.
-
Hmm, I wonder if Jonah will return or if they'll get someone else, since, you know…
! Jonah apparently died.

Great news! This made my day.

It's sci-fi. They can get him back.
They probably just wanted to close out with some finality in case they didn't get more.

Well that's great! Not even a long wait either.

Here's the trailer for the new season of MST3K. Man, the movies that is going part of this season is going to be interesting.
-
Mac and Me. Hoo boy.
-
I got a feeling Mac and Me probably got a great chance to be this season Cry Wilderness.
-
I went to MST3K Live tonight. It was really fun show and the movie was No Retreat, No Surrender (which have Jean-Claude van Damme in it). Oh boy, the movie is over the top.
-
MST3K is doing an online live event this Sunday!
https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/new-mst3k-episode-coming-this-sunday-a-d/What are they riffing? THEIR OWN VERY FIRST EPISODE.
-
That's going to be fun. Also it nice that we're getting the crew from the tour shows doing this special event. I went to one of the tour shows back in November, and it was a great experience.

Looks like they're going to launch another Kickstarter campaign today though I'm not sure what they'll be going for; whether it's to fund another season or specials/live shows or whatever.
-
Kickstarter hasn't gone live but the video is findable.
Looks like they're going to try and make their own platform this time and just fund the show as long as fans want it, instead of being beholden to a network.
2 million dollars for 3 episodes, 3.3 million for 6, 5.5 million for 12. Also a website/app and live events.
-
They're three quarters of the way to the first goal already.

New update: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mst3k/makemoremst3k/posts/3168008
To sum up:
*6 episodes have been funded along with the accompanying app.
*The Delta Knights bonus episode has been unlocked.
*The cast of MST3K LIVE will host some episodes.
*Joel will host 1 ep if 9 are funded, and 2 if all 12 are.
*And, kinda understandable but still disappointing, they're planning on filming actors separately and splicing them together with green screen (test example at 4:20 in the update video). They're setting aside budget to work out the kinks, but don't expect Jonah to be giving the bots noogies anytime soon. -
If they're gonna do greenscreen at length, they're going to have to adjust their keys some. You can see the starfield through Jonah's yellow, and Joel's red jumpsuit and Tomm have massive green outlines. They'll have to work on that.
-
Ah, good, seems one of the producers clarified that there will be some scenes shot with the actors together in the same location: https://www.reddit.com/r/MST3K/comments/mwhpgn/kickstarter_producer_ivan_clarifies_the_remote/
-
Hour and a half left, all eps funded and a 13th bonus ep imminent.
EDIT: And all bonuses achieved! Congrats! Still half an hour left if anyone still wants to chip in.

@therockafire:
In May of 2021, Joel from MST3K asked me if I would like to help him with his upcoming telethon to crowdfund and relaunch the MST3K show with all new episodes. Being an MST3K fan myself, I was honored to do this and got all the original character voices back together for the first time in a couple of decades so that every original RAE voice is on this video.
By the way, Joel's telethon was extremely successful, netting him over $6,000,000 to make new episodes. It made me think I ought to try crowdfunding new Showbiz Pizza Show Tapes, but that's another topic.
So, here it is, nice and clean, with no riffing.
Okay, that was a legit MST3K thing but that sent me down a hell of a rabbit hole. These things were discontinued in 1992! How much did I go to Showbiz Pizza that I have distinct memories and nostalgia for these animatronics? (But never CHuck E. CHeese. Screw that sell out changing of brand.)

Pluto tv put up the entire recent season of MST3K (Gizmoplex era) today. I haven't seen any of the episodes expect for the two episodes that aired during this past Thanksgiving Day special thing they had on youtube.
