@The:
The same guy who is on record saying "of course a woman can be president" suddenly turns out to be a misogynist?
You don't have to be a full blown misogynist to be pissed off and overheard. And you don't have to be a misogynist to be a man who came of age in the 1940's.
You can 100% know better, and still have subtle ingrained bits that just come out occasionally.
I'm fine with all races and genders but there will still be random stereotypical things that mostly belong to certain groups that irk me a little, like say a specific tone of voice pitch or a specific music style. I'd never say out loud to them "man, your entire race sucks for this reason" or mean anything by it if I did complain about the one thing that got to me, but the idea of "ugh, that kind of person is annoying" does cross my mind… and if I'd been on my feet for 14 hours that day talking to thousands of people and I was feeling tired and frustrated and just wanted to be left alone? That silent inner voice could absolutely come out for a moment.
My wife gets frustrated with work and grouse to me and rant about things. Things she'd never say directly to her coworkers, and nothing that means she hates them, but frustration DOES hit and build up, especially when you're under huge amounts of constant stress. ANd I do the same to her. Its human.
-
If he did say it, I think he was probably commenting on how much more difficult it will be for a woman to run in the general election in 2020.
Trump is perfectly willing to say the most sexist things imaginable and not lose supporters over it, so she wouldn't be treated with any dignity or fairness during the debates (if there even are any).
Because of Trump's influence, sexism against female leaders by both men and women has probably increased quite a bit over the last four years, so she'd have to deal with voter sexism too.
There's also a not insignificant number of people who will inevitably see her as a "diversity hire".
That's not at all how Warren represented Bernie's statement though, so whether or not it was even remotely true she played politics and it backfired.
-
I said a woman can’t get elected president after 2016 and I still believe it today. Even when she was beating Biden for a week in polls, Warren was only doing well among college graduates (who are an absolute minority in the country).

Maybe it's true that Bernie made an off the cuff remark about it being more difficult for a woman to be elected (I still don't believe that, but let's just go with it for the sake of a hypothetical). The point still stands that warren lied about what was said in a effort to damage Bernie and help herself. And if she did somehow misunderstand what was said, she sure didn't mind trying to use it to hurt her "friend".

Yeah, she sure managed to beat biden in the polls for a week…too bad that didn't actually mean anything though. She couldn't even win her home state for god's sake, and you expected her to be able to beat trumpy in a general election?
-
Ugh we're really going to end up with Biden?
lolThankfully I can still see him beating Trump if things align right (the economy shitting the bed right now for instance). But ughhhhhh.
Maybe the Coronavirus knocks off a shitload of Boomers so we can elect something better next time out.

I would try and say something inspiring, but yeah…it's probably gonna be biden. And also four more years of trumpy. Oh well, not much to do about it but accept it.

If Biden refuses to go to the debates and only releases carefully worded prerecorded statements from now on, while Trump suffers a massive backlash from his awful mishandling of the coronavirus and huge crisis of popularity as his precious economy tanks… it could work.

Turnout was way up Virginia suburbs (resulting in record turnout overall), while down in rural areas. If that pattern repeats in a general election, Biden wins PA, MI and AZ.
But then you have to watch him replace RBG with Merrick Garland, the moderate nominated by Obama to point out the GOP’s hypocrisy.

…Because trumpy would rip her to shreds, not because Bernie's a misogynist, lol. Context matters, kids.

I believe Biden can turn out the Rust Belt (which of course Hillary completely fucked up on), but man….
lol at Boomers worrying about Bernie because of 1972, I'm getting vague flashbacks to 2004.At least Bloomberg ate shit. He had no fucking business running as a Democrat.

Implying any woman would be ripped to shreds by Trump is insanely misogynist.
I'm given to thinking Bernie was expressing tactless cynicism, and not what you're implying. -
Has a Democrat candidate ever picked a Republican VP or vice versa?

Politics is the fundamental aspect that solidifies stupidity as a major forming block of any advanced civilization.
Dude, we vote for this stuff.
@Lord Gaimon:Iran is barely involved, and helping the Hadi government win as fast as possible is the best way to end the conflict since the houthis are worse and have no path to unite the country anyway.

You can try and defend yourself with facts and logic, but when the people you're fighting against see you and think "wahman BAD!" it's not going to work out too well.

Always will be. I've maintained for years that real resolution needs to come through good old-fashioned logic and understanding of the issue from all sides. But, when one-sided interests take hold at the expense of that logic, you're going to have conflict. This is why I don't see any real resolution after the 2020 election. It's still going to be party interests for the country no matter which way you slice it. Bernie is the closest we actually have to that change and is the reason why I'm voting for him. But, I'm also smart enough to know that if by some miracle he does manage to take the White House, the Republicans will not stand for it and will do everything in their power to try to sabotage his presidency because "Bernie's a democrat and we're not!" At this stage in the game, it's frustrating but I also have to concede that the American populace has not reached the astuteness level of Mr. Spock to the point that all issues can be resolved with logic and understanding so for better or worse, we're stuck playing this game.

They called cali for Bernie before there were any results to show. How the actual heck does that work?

@The:

It's a projection made by the Associated Press based on exit polls.
-
It's a projection made by the Associated Press based on exit polls.
Why are exit polls still a thing? They're not even recognized as proper statistics.
-
Has a Democrat candidate ever picked a Republican VP or vice versa?
Historically 200 years ago the guy that came in second got VP regardless of party. That was also when there were actually four or five parties. (Part of the weakness of the rules the constitution wrote down is they never imagined it turning into a two party system, so a lot of the checks and balances fall apart under that.)
But that has not been done in some time, no.
@Kaba:

Because it gives you SOME idea of whats going on hours or even days before you get actual results.
-

I guess I shouldn't say anything since I didn't vote today, but…eh, Biden.
Oh well, still better than Trump.......but eh.
-
A disappointing night to be sure, but we'll have to see how the rest of the country votes. Given the huge biden upset tonight though…it doesn't look good for Bernie going forward.

Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson.

As a brazilian I can feel your feelings even deeper, we elected our version of the orange goblin for presidency last year and the most democratic leader, by no irony, was our last emperor.

I'm not hoping for such a morbid outcome but yeah, it's going to happen.
About 22% of infected people over 80 will probably die.
-
Shame on you, Massachusetts, for picking Biden over our beloved Senator Warren.
Has a Democrat candidate ever picked a Republican VP or vice versa?
Right now the closest you're going to get is a more Centrist Democrat.
-
Well it looks like the people have spoken. Despite Sander's early victories Biden is getting the attention.
Maybe he's seen as the best bet to beat Trump and that's people's number 1 issue this time around but… actual progressive would have been nice.
-
It'd worth noting that Sander's early victories were just plurality victories that hovered around 30%. Even after Super Tuesday, his high water mark outside of his home state of Vermont is Colorado with a 36% margin.
Plurality wins worked for Trump in 2016 because of winner-take-all states and far fewer delegates but the Democratic primaries are an entirely different animal.
-
aaayy lmao, Warren's a goner.
-
Well this has been disappointing. Warren (and to a lesser degree, Bloomberg) really struggled to cope with the Two Candidate narrative. Very frustrating night. A lot of local measures aren't aren't breaking the right way either.
-
trumpy is going to absolutely thrash mush brained joe in the debates. That'll be fun to watch…I guess.
-
I'm still holding out hope that coronavirus will drive voters to Sanders in the remaining states.
-
Trump couldn't even out debate Ted Cruz if anything their debate will be the equivalent of that scene in Family Guy where Herbert and Old Nazi Guy have a completely pointless and terrible fight with the only difference being both guys won't be using walkers and it won't end with the shittier of the two breaking his neck.
Their might be some pill popping beforehand though.

I just don't believe biden has the energy or mental clarity to beat trumpy. He's constantly stumbling over his words and forgetting what he's saying mid sentence. I'm not calling him mush brained just to be an asshole after all.

Actually… there really is a significant risk of Biden doing so much worse than Trump in the debates that he makes Trump's points seem legitimate.
-
I'm still holding out hope that coronavirus will drive voters to Sanders in the remaining states.
This was a pretty crushing defeat. Bernie even lost texas now. biden winning in the northeast shows me that he's probably going to sweep most of the remaining states. I think it's over, unfortunately.
-

I have to wonder just how much the recent spike in antisemitism is helping Biden.
-
I have to wonder just how much the recent spike in antisemitism is helping Biden.
Well, it certainly wasn't helping the jewish guy any, lol.
-
Wow. I did not expect this. I thought Sanders was looking really good, and that the moderates' consolidation strategy would work only to keep Biden viable today. Instead Biden has become the clear frontrunner and Sanders has really been knocked down.
I don't see this a result of the DNC strategy. It's too much of a lead for Biden for that to be the case. Bernie or Busters better get their heads straight right now.
-
So, turns out that relying entirely on the kind of voters that never actually show up (young people) was not a wise and informed strategy.
Neither was burning bridges with everyone and somehow ensuring that even when Warren drops out that it's still going to be a tough race.
Also lolllllll American Samoa.

Antisemitism, in the Democratic primary? The party who has Jews shoring up the base along with old black people?
-
Unfortunately biden doesn't really draw any of Bernie's supporters to him. He doesn't offer anything new. I don't blame anyone who doesn't want to hold their nose and take a bite of the biden shit sandwich we're going to have shoved in our faces. I just hope enough of them do.
-
There were no bridges to burn. Bernie would've been an existential threat to the centrists and they would've always opposed him. Twitter people are morons but they are inconsequential and them being morons to other candidates didn't change the outcome despite what media pundits would maybe tell you.
I recall Trump saying that he wouldn't take part in general election debates. That would actualy be ideal for Biden. The less he talks, the better he polls. He actually needs to not be in debates, then maybe there's a sliver of a chance Trump is beaten.
