I like that Kirion was given such a major role. I wonder what's on the other sideā¦
Good chapter. Hole-kun is surprisingly funny.

The further we advance the stranger it gets. How En's crew gonna escape? -
I honestly have no idea where this is going anymore.

I am actually really enjoying it. It's every bit as crazy and random as it's always been, and I've learnt to not try to make sense of everything and just enjoy the ride. I think that's what Hayashida wants to portray, and the tone is exactly like that.
And as a ride, it doesn't get much better than this.

I mean, that's how the manga always was.
A lot of things only started making more sense from a world buidling view in this last Arc with revelations about the Demon (I always forget his name, Chidaruma?) and the Monster.I'm enjoying it, but I always get a bit burned out with stretched out finals battles. Helck had the same problem.

The series did actually end and the mangaka is already announcing a new manga called Dai Dark which is sci-fi and starting spring of next year.

Sad Dorohedoro is ending, even though this is definitely time to end it.
Happy Hayashida is already booked to do more of her wacky, weird stories. Hope it gets scanlated, too.
-
Oh it ended? Gotta finally read it, wanted to years ago but never started for some reason. Also, Dai Dark is a cool name.

Patiently waiting for a ultra budget late night MadHouse adaptation. -
I picked the manga from the start again this week - I had dropped it many years ago waiting for it to be finished so I could read it all at once - and was thinking just yesterday "this will never be made into an anime, right!?"
Well, wrong.
I hope it is better than the Blade of the Immortal's anime (which I dropped after two or three episodes because of how much they missed the tone).
-
Nice, now let's hope there's no CGI and whoever makes this stays as close to the art style as possible.
-
I can't imagine it being good. Even if it's like Jojo and just censored for TV, Dorohedoro has some pretty detailed gore that won't be possible to replicate. And the art style itself is too sketchy really to replicate unless everything is moving at all times like Ed, Edd, and Eddy. I'm surprised too though that it's getting one at all. I hope it's good but I don't think it will be.

I took my time but I finally finished it. Obviously, spoilers from all the way to the last chapter:
-
I had put the manga on a hold as soon as everyone went to Hole. I felt like a whole new arc was starting and it would probably conclude the story, so rather then catching up and starting to follow as it released I decided to wait until it finished and read it in a bulk. It took a lot longer than I could have expected but in a way I was right and I am glad I took that decision. The part on the Department Storeā¦ I don't think I would have beared it if I wasn't reading it all at once (sure Dorohedoro plot always seemed to lack focus and walk in circles most of the time, but I don't think it ever felt like it was dragging like here. Thank god for the Severed Heads Routine, it was the saving grace). It got better by the time En came back, but still.
-
VIZ translation... wow. At some point I switched to it because the fan translation quality dropped as the volumes passed. After reading the official translation, I switched back.
Even without the raw you can tell the amateur mistakes in translation (mistaking me/you, the subject and the object of a phrase, translations being the opposite of what they are meant to be, Nikaido being called a he - suggesting they didn't bothered checking who the phrase was talking about - and then a she in the same page, Kirion always being a he, the same line being translated in one way then differently when repeated/recalled by a character). I was appalled by the low level, seriously, at this day it's hard to come by even fan translations that bad, much less an official one.
I didn't pay for it, so I can't complain as a client. -
Now on the more positive things: I really, really, REALLY like the devils! There isn't one dull moment with them. Every time they are on, the manga is a pleasure to read. They probably sum up best Dorohedoro's unique aesthetic, nonsensical and twisted perspective - I was cracking up at the scene of Asu's re-cripplingā¦ where else that would be fun to read? -, Chidaruma definitely has to be one of my favorites in the manga.
Then, there's En and his family. I don't know what is the general take on the characters, but to me those guys completely overshadowed Kaiman and Nikaido. Gotta love their interactions, particularly when it involved En being "accessible but not really fond of it". Shin and Noi surprisingly ended up being the least interesting of the family, En, Fujita, Ebisu and Chota definitely made up most of the good moments of it. Also, I wasn't really a fan of characters being revived all the time, but damn if En didn't put up a show against Hole, that was beautiful. -
On the other characters, back when Dokuga's group were poor I could tell it was a genius idea to make them like that because otherwise they wouldn't be very likable. Indeed, as soon as the comedy relief provided by it was gone, they immediately lost their charisma, but back then I was actually rooting for them even against En family. Also I really liked Nikaido and Asu being totally chill whenever Curse was around to the point he ended up completely losing any threat his presence initially had. Kaiman was a big whatever, never really warmed up to him.
-
Overall, good manga. The plot is convoluted and most of the time fumbles around, but it matches the intended chaotic nature of the manga which is also reinforced by the rough and sometimes sketchy art style (which I completely dig). I really like how the Dorohedoro world is completely amoral without ever looking like it is trying too hard to be like that, it just looks naturally twisted (at the end of the day all the characters are completely shitty people, but highly enjoyable).
-

Damn, it's THAT bad?! This is one of the mangas that I wanted to have in my physical collection and I doubt it will ever be licensed in tupiniquim lands.

Yeah the Viz translation has a lot of issues. I didn't notice some of the stuff access mentions but they screw up the sex of several characters a lot. I think they initially had Fukuyama as female. I thought that fit and would have preferred that honestly but it was still wrong. They also printed what were color pages in the Japanese release in black and white, apparently removed every single end chapter "what we learned" section, and completely ignored the textured covers that the Japanese versions have. I was also interested in getting a physical release of it but there's no way I'm paying for such a poor release. I didn't realize that official manga releases in the US could still be that bad.

I will answer with this:
!
Now the fan translation:!
I don't have the raw to check if the second translation is accurate, but the simple fact it makes sense, it follows a logic that matches what happened and has inner consistency rather than sounding like a drunk guy mumbling incoherent stuff already tells you how superior it is.
Also, it was done by someone who knows Nikaido is a woman. -

soundtrack is what got me into this manga. It's great.
Saw it on /r/manga I'm pretty sureā¦by the way, on page 113 that you posted, panel 3. the devil that Nikaido and Kaiman saw was Nikaido as explained, but do you recall which chapter they saw her in for the first time? Nikaido's other self that appears in panel 3 is sort of like a mini flashback to when they saw her standing on the ceiling or something like that but when I was reading I couldn't remember when they actually saw her for the first time.
Hope that makes sense

So the last french volume has been out this june and i finished it last week. I didn't come here before by fear to get spoiled since I decided to only read the French official translation (which is very good by the way)
I had some fear to be disappointed but I must say I really enjoyed it. Of course there are some little deus ex machina like Caiman magic being overkilled ( but it is such agood find and funny that i don't really care) or how the En's familly survived miraculously. But overall, this title was so unique from start to end that it was really worth the investment.
It's a bit to early to judge Q new title but congratulation to her managing finishing the serie properly.
And kudo to the French editor who has always supported the serie despite being a financial cost for them -

Great incentive for me to learn french, as if Freaks' Squeele wasn't enough.

OMG
-
The CGI looks really stiff but really the only thing that looks completely awful to me is Kaiman himself. Shin's mask too. Looks like it isn't entirely CGI but Nikaido seemed CGI in every shot with her so I'm not sure what's up with that. Definitely looks like it's going to be pretty mediocre. Which I was expecting. Interested in the opening(s) though.
-
Oh wow, didn't know it was getting an anime adaptation, nice.
-
Quite disappointing indeed. And Q color pages are so great ! Where did they get their inspiration from ?
-
I don't know if it's because I usually have very low expectations for CGI, but I actually thought everything looked great. Kaiman looked weird talking but I suppose that's to be expected from a lizard head/mouth/jaw.
-
I guess they tried the 80's animation look to try to emulate Q's "dirty" style. It looks kind stiff and weird in some points, but nothing atrocious.
Will have to wait for more to judge. -
New PV
Animation still doesn't look very good. -
-
I don't understand what you guys are disappointed about, this doesn't look bad.
-
I don't think it looks terrible and I'm going to watch it but the animation looks really janky for the CGI (which it doesn't look like it's entirely CGI). And Kaiman in general doesn't look very good, which is an issue because he's the main character.
-
It's not that the art is bad, besides Kaiman's face nothing feels really off, it's the way the movement is portrayed that looks stiff and artificial in an uncanny way.
-
This seems to be the opening. I like it. Better than I expected.
-
dorohedoro is my favorite cooking anime
-
The anime is up on Netflix Japan if anyone has access to that. There are clips on Youtube you can find too (with no subtitles obviously). It's actually better than I expected. I at least don't think it looks terrible most of the time.
! They have a "what did we learn" segment after the ending too.
-
Subtitles are out on Nyaa. As well as a raw.
-
Possibly more Chidaruma ? Sign me in !
Also so far the anime is pretty okay if you ignore some of the CGI animation and how weird the pacing feels when we jump from scene to scene in the beginning. It's fun.
