Im started to get worried, since the only one piece home video the talked about was Episode of East Blue smh

Well…. who the fuck knows now.

Did anyone else watch the special feature on Episode of East Blue. It seems pretty clear they are continuing. We may hear something once Episode of Skypiea finally comes out. I think that is the last special, right? Or maybe they will loop around.
-
I think they will have an announcement on the 20th. Just give it to us, Funi.
-
Well I suppose I should just starting use my main account now instead of my old cringey one from 4 years ago lol. (TheGreatCaptainUsopp for context)
Anyways yeah, gonna just wait and see at this point - they clearly don't have any intention of dropping the series and Stampede being dubbed and screened theatrically is a pretty good sign that things are still moving over there. I wish we got something during NYCC but these Industry Panels always seem to disappoint lmao so oh well I guess.
-
Personally, I don't really get my hopes up the way I see some others do; you're just as likely (if not more) to see something announced through social media (or solicitations) nowadays then at a convention panel. I mean, I still keep up with them just in case, but I don't ever really go in expecting anything. The only reason I slightly anticipated someting this time is because someone here claimed we would get something here…
-
I’m holding out hope until the end of the convention.
-
Seriously, if they have been keeping us waiting all this time just so they can say "happy anniversary One Piece fans, Punk Hazard Arc is coming dubbed to home video soon". That isn't something you keep people waiting a year and a half for.
All that's doing, is meeting the minimum requirement for their licensing agreement. If they announce Punk Hazard and Dressrosa are going to be released on a regular schedule, then that would be something - we haven't had anything like that since Impel Down and Marineford. -
While a part of me would really like to see the dub returning, it's so far behind that I am kind of feeling ambivalent to if it returns, especially since the upcoming arcs that the dub needs to get through are pretty underwhelming anime wise.
What I really think they should do at this point is to continue from a pretty recent point(like Reverie or Wano) and simultaneously continue from where they left off, like what they did after the their acquisition of one piece from 4kids, but that probably won't happen.
-
I'm just wondering, does anyone know what this Anniversary event that Funimation are hosting this evening is?. It just states that it's from 8pm until midnight, and it's an immersive journey with the straw hat crew over the years, and giveaways will be available while stocks last. It seems extremely long, so I assume they are showing episodes?.

Oh. Right. They’ll announce it there. Duh. God we’re all dumb.
“One Piece 20th Anniversary | Saturday, October 5 | 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Celebrate the anime’s 20th anniversary in this immersive journey with the Straw Hat crew over the years! There will be giveaways while supplies last. “–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I assume they’ll show Stampede and announce...something...
-
Whatever happens, happens. I wasn't expecting any bug announcements from an industry panel.
I believe One Piece is in a secure spot. We'll just have to be even more patient. -

Even if it is announced on the anniversary I doubt this hiatus was specifically for that reason. I'd say it's more likely they were mostly held up for other reasons and the upcoming anniversary just seemed like a good time for an announcement to be made (in this scenario). It seems unlikely that over a year ago they decided to go on hiatus just for an anniversary announcement.

Agreed. Also agreed with the person earlier who mentioned closing the gap via simuldub.

Man, a simuldub would be great, continue on from the reverie, and record the missing episodes as and when possible. Will never happen though, but we can dream.
Yes, it was ridiculous of me to suggest they held off for 18 months just to announce further episodes on the date of the anniversary.

But they did probably hold off <6 months for this reason.

Notice: that one piece event is for the lightbox show. Unless they have it plastered on the screen there, an announcement is unlikely.
:getlost: ...still holding out for the duration of the convention...
-
So what made you think there would be an announcement then? You seemed so sure, but got our hopes up for nothing.

Even if we don’t hear anything from NYCC I’m still expecting something this month. Whether it be on the podcast or just through this months solicits. However, is anyone else feeling rather bummed that Colleen changed her profile picture on Twitter? Don’t know how long ago she changed it, I just noticed it though. I mean, judging from the fact that they’ve dubbed Punk Hazard and those little hints in the documentary, not to mention that they dubbed Stampede rather quickly, but when she had Luffy as her profile picture it gave me this sense of “Colleen loves Luffy so much this show will be dubbed till it’s end”. Although I know she probably still loves Luffy and One Piece from her interviews I’ve seen, I just feel a sense of loss in her favoritism towards him. Might just be my impatience kicking in and making me feel a little down though.

You're probably looking too much into it…
-
Well, I’ll hold out hope until the end of NYCC, but I assume if they pull back on this decision, they’ll announce it on the anniversary? I’m pretty fucking bummed they didn’t announce it today as planned (?). Here’s hoping they decided to go out with a bang tomorrow…
-
Sometimes plans don't always work and it is outside of FUNi's control. I've seen things pulled moments before an industry panel started, slides having to be deleted. I remember fir Gold they were given the green light, then it was a no, and then it was a go again. That meant changing banner decorations that hung in the actual convention center. It's crazy how much is out of their hands at times.
-
Well, in any case, they’re working to get the series back if they haven’t already. The documentary makes that clear; now the question is when.
-
That is disappointing, but I guess it is what it is. On that note, any idea when the January 2020 solicitations are released? If they don’t announce something tomorrow that’ll probably be the next thing for us to look forward to
-
you guys are really worried about there not being dub news at NYCC (so far) here the thing I know its being worked on in fact I know more because of my work and I rather anything not get out cause that shit can be traced back to my work.
I knew when FF15 movie was gonna be released after the event, I knew when Broly was gonna be released even before it came over here, when Far From Home was in theaters I knew when it be out in stores.
The only comfort I can give is to say its coming.

Solicitations are always around the middle of the month (usually the 15th), so probably a week from next Tuesday

Right on! Keeping my hope alive!
-
This is disappointing, and Funimation lack of communication is not helping either.
-
It may be a Toei thing. They can't say anything without permission. We all know this, right?
-
Well on a better note, Stampede has expanded to more theaters here in California so perhaps it has in other states (I recall someone saying there wasn’t a theater near them selling tickets for Stampede).
-
Well, if nothing today, I guess we’ll wait for the anniversary. On the tour, one of the people said the plan was for Colleen to announce at NYCC. And in the anniversary documentary she says, “we’re planning to continue for longer still” or something. I quoted it the day it came out but no one really took note. It’s just a question of when, which, you know, is an infuriating question at this point.
-
Well, January's solicitations are out one week from Tuesday, though they could just not announce S10V1 for a few days and hold off until the 20th. Who knows.

Maybe they just wanted to focus the marketing on stampede? I don't know, just trying to think from a PR perspective.
-
Well, at least the Ping Pong Manga and the final Steven Universe announcement came out of this NYCC. Not a bust of a convention, but certainly not what I was waiting for. Judging by what I know, I’m going to assume Toei told them to hold off, possibly until the actual anniversary. If the anniversary comes and goes without anything, well, I have no f***ing idea. This season must’ve been tougher to license, for whatever reason—maybe a combination of the difficult song rights and Blu-ray rights?
-
What a shame. Spent the whole weekend away at a wedding, figuring I'd come home today to some good One Piece news.
-
That would be nice to think it was, though after looking at the tweet and the comments, there doesn't seem to be any indication to say that this is even One Piece.
His response to someone asking if it’s one piece all but states it.
-

Let's hope it is One Piece then, though I also noticed that reply to a comment with him saying that he neither can confirm not deny it, though if you look down the comments further, someone asked him was it "Special 7:Special Crimes Investigation Unit" or "Stand by Heroes: Piece of Truth" and he also said that he will happily tell as soon as he can. So at this point it could be about anything (Though this is of course just how it reads to me) Here's hoping it is One Piece and here's hoping that it is the series rather than the movie (Though chances are higher for the movie at this point)
-
Well he said “it’s a show that does NOT start with the letter Z”.
-
It wouldn't really say much. Jay Hickman hasn't voiced anyone regularly other than Choo and Hammond, and there's nothing new to dub for them in Punk Hazard or beyond. So if he was working on One Piece, it'd be a new character.
It's not like one of the One Piece regulars with a potential recurring role is showing excitement over being at FUNimation.
-
Yeah, but his wording and emoji does enough hinting for me.
If Funimation does announce the series’ return on October 20th, what do you folks think they’ll announce? Blu-ray’s? 24-episode packs? Simuldub? I’m hoping for all of those, but I’ll be happy to get one.
And in terms of episode spread, where does everyone think their new acquisition will end? End of PH, halfway through DR, or at the end of DR? More, even, if they announce a simuldub too?
-
You have to remember that Season 9, Voyage 5 still haven't been release as an part of a collection yet. It wouldn't make sense to releaase half of a set on dvd only while the other half is bluray only.

Mixed Blu-ray/DVD releases do exist, even if the situation would be strange one. Failing that, they would just release C24 on DVD, add BDs from C25 and anyone who wants S10V1 in 1080p would just have to buy it separately. Not sure how they'd handle a switch to 'Collection-only' releases, but I also don't think that's particularly likely (DBZ Kai did, but that was a unique situation).
-
Maybe they'll make the first new Collection with an extra disc thrown in to cover the missing Voyage? People who already watched those episodes on their Voyage can always skip it….

For collection-only, they'd probably do DVD only for C24, then switch C25+ to combo packs.

Has there ever been a case where Funimation didn’t release a Blu-ray that was available in Japan? I kind of expect Blu-ray’s since this is where they became available in Japan.
-
In case everyone forgot, the Hollywood premiere of Stampede (English Subbed) is currently happening. Funimation and the One Piece Podcast have been tweeting about it.
-

I'm not sure about that, but just because that's when Japan started doing it doesn't mean Funimation has to follow those rules exactly. There have been exceptions, such as when Funimation released movie 8 on Blu-ray a good year before Japan did, and Funi also released the first 16:9 episodes uncropped in their full aspect ratio before Japan as well.
I'm sure if Funimation really wanted to they could have started releasing the show on Blu-ray as soon as the timeskip happened.

Interesting. But those are examples of when they did better than Japan, which can’t be expected of them all the time; what I asked was if there were any examples of them doing worse—releasing a DVD without a bluray that Japan had gotten.
