Could still happen because this series just likes to mess around. Now I'm just wondering if the reveal is supposed to be someone we know, or if it will be a punchline with the whole idea of the person being dignified and then with the reveal it's the exact opposite of what you would expect.

I think that only if they use "that man/woman" or the filial relationship with that person (brother/sister/mom/dad/uncle/aunt/grandpa/grandma) you can be informed of their gender on the translation.
It seems like any third person pronouns in Japanese are gender neutral, and the first person ones that traditionally were gendered, are being used for another personality traits (boku-boys or tomboyish girls, etc)
I can definitely see that a design hasn't been finalized yet. So since it has been clarified, I will stick with my theory that the Bookmaster is in fact Soma's mother, which at this point is possible since we have no real info on Soma's mother, even if she is alive or not.

Guy comes in confident with his past experience with this situation, old man shoots the guy in the head, everyone stares in disbelief when the man says "Stop looking at me and cook me my food. Better be good or you'll be next". Major plot twist is the guy reveals his true form, which is DBZ Abridged Popo.
Really, can't say much but the whole scene with the gun was pretty memorable.

I mean, at first I thought the dish was two Reese's Pieces with the large sides touching each other and I thought Soma snapped. Next you're going to tell me the other two passed the first test no problem.

This chapter has my attention, but it seems like a challenge made specifically for Soma's strengths which is an odd thing not to address. I also am not confident that the cooking in the chapter's to come will be worth it, since it hasn't been really good since midway through the last tournament.
