I have re-read today all the chapters of Wano and the arc has been pretty cool. I love the various scenaries we've seen so far, the vegetation, the landscapes, the animals, the houses, the urbanization, the visual presentation of the country's devastation and misery, as well as the beauty of the capital's sophisticated luxury. Incidentally, I also had a big "Breath of the Wild" vibe as I was reading these chapters, because there are several locations that we can see in the distance (factories, mountains etc) that makes me want to discover them, but for now I have to be content to just imagine how those places will be like when we explore them in the future. Wano looks beautiful.
I also enjoy this quieter pace that is heavily focused on only one plotline, so we can breathe and sympathize with the characters. In general, we've got very fun interactions thoughout the chapters, Zoro and Luffy are great for the most part, full of attitude and expressions, and I'm very sympathetic to Tama, Kiku and Tsuru. They still have a lot to grow as we find out more about their stories and their personalities, but it's a good start for future pay offs.
In addition, we are also experiencing the flavour of the Kaidou's crew and, for now, the Gifters are funny and Holdem has potential to be memorable (besides the disturbing and hilarious gag). Hawkins I always found to be cool and I hope he gets a good inclusion into the plot.
As for Wano's higher class, for now represented by Urashima and by explanations about the government officials and Orochi, unfortunately I am still waiting for something more interesting coming from them, but this is an aspect of the arc that we have not yet investigated much (like everything else, by the way).
Anyway, I'm very excited for Wano and I see great seeds being planted to become an increasingly rich and vibrant environment as the story progresses. Above all, I appreciate Oda's narrative choice not to stifle this introduction with all the hype elements that are currently present on the island. When you plant a seed, it needs space to absorb the nutrients and have access to sunlight, otherwise it dies … and that is what would have happened to these newborn characters if they were competing for attention with the people we've been waiting for years.
Obviously, not everything is perfect, as it never is. I have made some criticism in the last chapters and I still hold my opinion about them, but any of these problems are more punctual than structural, without consequences in the long run. Taking everything into account, it's a great start, though shy, but we know that there's a lot of hype ahead.
