Here's another thing I noticed: O-Kiku has a really unsubtle chrysanthemum theme going on, with part of her name (kiku) literally meaning chrysanthemum and an obvious chrysanthemum on her Kimono.

The chrysanthemum has been a symbol of the Japanese Emperor for almost a thousand years, so O-kiku is (or was) someone extremely close to the royal family if not a member.
Ruling out Kozuki Oden and his wife (who aren't likely to have been trained as samurai), I think she/he might be the genderswapped ghost of Ryuma.
If that sounds outlandish, consider that the story behind the Chrysanthemum Festival sounds vaguely familiar.

Shame that Sanji is not joining this fight. For sure Sanji will shine with helping people with food, it will be also some sort of motivation for him to fight for starving people..
This might be more Sanji than Zoro arc when it comes to plot to be honest. Sure Zoro will be center of many action scenes but I feel that Sanji will shine here far stronger than during Whole Cake Island.. I would love if beside helping hungry people he would also get to fight someone in same ranking as Hawkings or Drake, so below Calamity but still a very strong Zoan fighter.Arrgghhh… But beside hunger for Sanji awesomness being clear and evident in this arc I must say that it is really fast paced and filled with build up.
I hope for some Gear Fourth ownage of strong Zoan user.

I don't know what is the subtle difference going on on Zoro since he rejoined Luffy, but as someone who was never into this character I have to say he's been the highlight of the last chapters. His interactions with O-Kiku are what I am most interested in seeing for the time being.
Could it also be Shanks giving his cloak, short pants, backpack …
… left arm.
Also the fact that they have kimono's with the Heart Jolly Roger could mean that they had acces to some top seweing factory in this whole time.

Looks as if a lot of Luffy taking a role similar to Momotaro gained traction with this chapter, gozaru.
- If Oden was in power for 20+ years and was always such a great guy, why didn't he open borders way earlier? Maybe Orochi quickly closed them back up again after he took control, but given the way everyone else in the WG talks about Wano as a mysterious place, it seems like the borders were never open.
Wano was probably one of the allies of the Great Kingdom. They must have decided to cut relations with the rest of the world after losing the war with the World Government.
I assumed it was something like the Sun Pirates symbol being placed over the Celestial Dragon mark as sort of a defiance thing while also being subtle enough to not arouse suspicions?

If you think about it Wano is the perfect arc for every SH to shine with their Individual strengths.
1. Like you said, Sanji gets to feed people quality food using shitty ingredients.
2. Zoro gets to swords.
3.Chopper gets to heal the people falling sick from the factories.
4. Franky gets to help Wano rebuild, probably using Kaido's tech.
5. Ussop gets to galvanize a beaten and downtrodden people into fighting for their land. Basically God Ussop part 2.
6. Robin gets to discover Kaido's Road poneglyph and other Kozuki clan secrets lost to time.
7. Nami gets to see and map out an island that's been unknown to the world for years.
8.Brook gets to create Music or some kind of art for the people.
9. Finally, Luffy gets to takedown a Yonkou.

That fact adds nothing to Zoro's character whatsoever. I've always liked that his ambition has always been internal. He wants to be the greatest and in the process honor his friend and rival by achieving his dream.
His dad being special will add what? Zoro will want to be the best because his old man was? meh

Welcome to my review for One Piece Chapter 914 of One Piece
The cover page continues the story of the self-proclaimed Straw Hat Fleet with its 42ndvolume. There’s a man in a cape arriving at Dyed-Cloth City. The city reminds me of Windmill Village. I don’t know for certain the identity of that individual. However, he looks like Shanks or maybe even Sabo. Only time will tell the readers the identity of that man and if that city is or has anything to do with Windmill Village. All in all, this cover story has taken an interesting turn of events.
This chapter begins where the last chapter left off. However, the scene shifts from the Heart Pirates to Luffy’s group. Otama feels better thanks to the herbs mentioned by Otsuru in the last chapter. However, the poison has not been removed from her body.
Okiku is treating Zoro’s wounds. As he’s being treated, Zoro notices and reacts to Kiku’s huger than normal appearance. In response to Zoro’s reaction, Luffy says that Big Mom is much more gigantic in size.
What is this power? Why is she able to grow 3 meters in height? What purpose would this fact serve?
Tsuru offers Tama some porridge but Tama is hesitant to eat it since she doesn’t have any money with her.
To eliminate Tama’s hesitation, Tsuru says that if she (Tama) doesn’t eat it, she (Tsuru) will merely throw the food away. Tama decides to eat the food and cries because she finds it delicious.
Tama notices that the food she’s eating has Mochi in it. Luffy, then, asks the question that some people have been wondering since Tama’s debut: If she (Tama) can pop Mochi from her cheeks, then why doesn’t she utilize it when she’s hungry? The answer: It’s not enough to quell her hunger.
As Tama is eating, Tsuru states that children like Tama can now be found all over Wano since the shogun of Wano has taken over.
Otsuru asks Luffy and Zoro of their identities. Zoro says that he’s Zorojuro. As Luffy attempts to himself as Monkey D. Luffy, the man who’ll be the Pirate King, Zoro interrupts. Zoro says that he, referring to Luffy, is Luffytaro.
Luffy’s Wano alias has finally been introduced. However, Tsuru quickly notices that Luffy and Zoro are foreigners. She also tells them not to fret as no one will rat them out.
Zoro proceeds to ask Tsuru why this town, Okobare, is commonly referred to as a “Town of Leftovers.” Tsuru replies, saying that all things in Okobore are leftovers from the town where the Government officials currently reside.
Tsuru also explains that the Kozuki clan has been the ruling family of Wano Kingdom until over 20 years before the present story.
Oden, who is now deceased, built a massive plantation to provide his people who live in Kuri with food for sustenance.
This plantation that Oden built (or ordered to build) now belongs to Kurozumi Orochi who shares it with Kaido. Now everyone who resists the shogun of Wano (or possibly everyone) must purchase rotten ingredients from the shogun to eat. This fact just goes to show how selfish is Orochi.
Upon revealing the internal circumstances of Wano, a man and Gifter of the Animal Kingdom Pirates who ate a bat SMILE Devil Fruit. Batman is now part of the _One Piece_story. Another possibility is that Man-Bat is part of the _One Piece_story. The translation I read before reading the official Viz translation literally referred to him as “Batman.”
Joking aside, Batman has the ears and wings of a bat. Batman shoots an arrow at Otsuru because his bat ability allows him to hear Otsuru speaking ill of the current shogun of Wano.
Zoro blocks said arrow with his sword. In response, Batman continues to shoot arrows aimed at Tsuru, but Zoro easily blocks them all.
Batman explains to them that his bat ability allows him to hear 6 times better than the average human and that Orochi doesn’t tolerate anyone who bad mouths him. Batman additionally states that they’re currently hunting down thieves who stole from the plantation a few ago.
While Zoro was blocking Bat Gifter’s arrows, another Gifter, a Gazelle Gifter, abducts Otama. Gazelleman states that he has the ability to run at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. In response, Okiku grabs her katana and follows Gazelleman. Luffy and Zoro follow her. They’re riding the komainu.
Gazelleman is heading to the Government official district. Kiku states that located there are 3 headliners, including Hawkins, Holdem, and as well as 30 artificial SMILE users are located.
Kiku read this from a notebook she’s holding and is asked of her identity to which she says that she’s a samurai. I did not expect Kiku to be a samurai. I thought she was a secret princess or something of the sort, but I was wrong.
Gazelleman contacts Headliner Holdem to inform them that he’s captured Tama. Holdem appears to be a lion. Is he a lion mink? Is he a lion SMILE user? Is he a lion Devil Fruit user? I think he’s a lion zoan Devil Fruit user. I think the headliners each have actual Devil Fruit abilities.
Kiku warns them that they’re about to enter the Bakura district where the government officials and pirates reside. As such, Luffy and Zoro smile, thereby shocking Kiku.
The scene shifts from Luffy’s group to Law’s group. Bepo has informed Law that Luffy and Zoro are heading to the official’s town. Luffy and Zoro shock Law so much so he decides to try to prevent them from reaching there since it’s nothing but trouble.
All in all, this chapter is a great One Piece chapter. The pacing is not slowing down; in fact, it’s only picking up. Tama’s better, Batman is in One Piece, readers find out about the dark origins of the “Town of Leftovers,” Luffy gets his Wano name, and Kiku’s a samurai. Moreover, Luffy, Zoro, and Kiku are about to raid the Bakura district and Law is going to try to stop them. Things are riling up. All of these facts are reasons I give this chapter a rating of 9/10.
This was another chapter that was better than the spoilers made it sound. I'm finally starting to like Wano as a setting.
I hope there's a Spiderman Gifter.

Kaido's crew sure enjoys making initial appearances as their Zoan fruit instead of their normal forms
With how luffy is related to everyone in the world, usopp's dad is emperor crew top member, sanji is part of some important royal family that ruled entire North blue, the shots of zoro related to some important samurai from wano are there, and I would say big shots. I would bet more on franky,brook or the rest not having important relatives.
I'm surprised Oda didn't make mihawk the dad of zoro.
So Holdem's minions know about Tama taming Hihi, but they don't seem to know about Strawhats being there… then Hawkings is playing his cards carefully in not giving all the info to Holdem

I won't be too surprised if it turns out that Orochi is his father and the sole mastermind behind the destruction of Wano.
To me it's better if we don't never know who is Zoro's father. Zoro's family are the SH, and the lone wolf, in terms of blood relatives, fits much better the character as far as I can image. But one never knows for sure… (even if Judge's story has been up to the moment dissapointing)

This interests me more than the Wano story, to be honest… if it is Bellamy showing up on an island controlled by Shanks, and shenanigans do pop off, it would be the second instant of a straw hat/red hair pirates skirmish. Very left field but thats what fan forums are for right?

A very solid Adventure that continues things along and I love all the Japanese references and the fact that we get to see what they mean. Overall a good chapter
Kind of bugged me that Luffy didn't instantly catch up to gazelleman with his own crazy speed.
So operation save a helpless female is in full effect…We got badly designed villains who shoot first stage weapons like arrows that's enough to distract Lola and Duffy and they can't catch a gazelle man with Ivonk tranny traits.

I want this arc to go full Okami. That was the best Japan-themed media I can think of. That said, China themed stuff is usually pretty enjoyable (I say this having rewatched Mulan recently and going through Mists of Pandaria content in WoW. So good.). Don't see too much Korea though, what's up with that.
