Chapter 914: Okobore, the Town of Leftovers
-
Ah, I like that Jaminis added a Japanese cultural guide at the end of the chapter.
Also, it would seem Holdem is a legit Zoan, and a Lion at that!
-
Dear oda PLEASE F*CKING LET SANJI GROW THIS ARC. This is prime arc for that. Hungry citizens, nothing he hates more!!!
I can't believe I'm starting to stan for Sanji, but goddddddd he needs some spotlight.
-
I deeply enjoyed this chapter. The atmosphere of the Wano country was presented better than ever and I finally got to feel the energy of the current plot. I'm very engaged to whatever is to come in the next few chapters.
-
Why isn’t Oda using the term Onna-bugeisha?
And now my Kunoichi please
-
Luffy and Zoro are psychos. LOL.
-
BTW what are the chances that Queen might be an Okama after all
-
did they just leave otsuru with batman
-
Is this Bellamy on the cover story?
The chapter is really good.!
-
For the people worried about O-Tama's situation a few chapters ago, her cheek mochi indeed does not stave off her hunger, as she said in this chapter.
I'm still enjoying the steady exposition, I'm getting a nice idea of Wano. I like that we've already explored a bunch of towns and districts. Bakura District has a really memorable ring to it. Ready for next chapter! Seems like things may suddenly kick into high gear. Happy to see Law.
-
I'm…Still not very interested in whatever's coming next. Reverie was full of promises but it was cut short before anything serious happened and now I'm finding it really hard to get invested into Wano.
I didn't think I'd ever say that, but compared to other arc settings this one doesn't feel that great. Maybe because it's so much textbook old Japan that it's all too familiar, whereas places like Tottoland or Zou gave free rein to Oda's imagination. I'm also not getting the adventure vibe that had started to rise with the tsunami sequence, probably because we jumped immediately to a situation where Luffy and Zoro are breaking havoc and confronting the enemy already instead of letting the atmosphere of this new land sink in.
But the major offender, I guess, is that the Straw Hats are still separated. We've had arcs with an incomplete crew for...maybe 4 years now ? I was looking forward to their reunion and seeing them explore Wano together but instead we're stuck with only 2 members and while their shenanigans are as good as ever, I'm really missing the crew as a whole. I'd much rather see more Straw Hats than get Law back into the story.
Or, I'm still not over the disappointment that the ending of Tottoland was. Either way, I'll go back to finding other interesting series.

Here's hoping that trans trap conversation doesn't take over this thread like it did the Spoiler page. Also, Luffy is full of lolz trying to 1-UP Zoro on big women. Que the Luffy is a chubby chaser bandwagon.
-
I think I'd really like Kiku if Oda didn't give her the most boring design imaginable.
-
Great chapter!
Limited characters and great conversations. Really felt like getting to know what all kaidou and shogun have done to this place.Zoro and luffy together are always great!
And about stopping all the attacks, Zoro was doing it all by himself. I guess when the vice captain is this capable, the captain doesn't need to get involved :)
One thing that I feel is having 3 headliners against luffy and Zoro now doesn't get me much excited TBH. Luffy feels too strong with that 1.5 billion bounty.
-

Right? Imagine 3-meter tall badass samurai Kiku but with O-Tsuru's design.
-
Any idea who might have been the culprit of the theft? A month ago? Laws crew?
-
Some more points I'm curious about:
-
In Zou, Oden was stated to be the Daimyou of Kuri. A daimyou is a vassal to the shogun if I understand the hierarchy correctly. However in this chapter the Kozuki family is stated to have ruled the entire country as a shogun would. What gives?
-
If Oden was in power for 20+ years and was always such a great guy, why didn't he open borders way earlier? Maybe Orochi quickly closed them back up again after he took control, but given the way everyone else in the WG talks about Wano as a mysterious place, it seems like the borders were never open.
-
-
I didn't really care about O-Kiku before, but she seems pretty cool right now, taking the Initiative even be offore Luffy. Might grow to like her, despite finding her Design rather…lackluster. I wish Oda would use more designs like Praline or Otsuru for Important charas.
Zoro blocking that arrow was, imo, more badass than many of his badass fightscenes (which I kinda dislike, despite really liking him as a Charakter). I enjoy seeing his "Gentleman"- Side.
Luffy needing to one-up Zoro on big women was absolutely hilarious.

I'm no expert, but here we go.
- A Daimyo is a feudal lord, owner of vast private lands and therefore a ruler of his territory. Of course a Daimyo was under the Shogun (or against him, maybe), but a balance of power always works in mysterious ways. Many Shoguns were "dethroned" by other Daimyos that rised in power. If I'm not wrong, one could say that a Shogun is essentially a Daimyo with extra supreme powers because he is the most powerful Daimyo around in a particular period of time.
So I understand that the Kouzuki clan were Daimyos that ruled as Shoguns for a long time… and that was until 20 years ago, when they lost their supreme status and became just Daimyos once again... and now Oden is dead and the Kouzuki clan is in shambles.
- Probably because Oden only decided to open the borders after discovering the truth of the world once he visited Laftel with Roger. However, it was around that time that the Kouzuki clan lost their power as Shogun, maybe because people were pissed off with the fact that Oden became a pirate and maybe exactly because Oden wanted to open the borders of Wano (people can be very conservative).

Maybe he didn't want to be involved with the world government after learning the truth behind the scenes. Also Wano was a prosperous country with probably little piracy , so why change anything?

@Miss:
Who's Queen? What?
There were notes pictured on Oda's desk a while back that said "Jack, King, Queen". Since we've seen Jack it's a safe assumption that the other calamities are King and Queen.
-
@Miss:

Hints (from behind the scenes stuff) point to them being one of the "Three Calamities" who are the top ranks in Kaido's crew, Jack held the same rank.

So, comparing the Bakura city and it's surroudings and Law's crew whereabouts, can we assume that they are stationed on a hill somewhere inside the Bakura territory? That can mean either they are hiding (which is logical but they are too relax for that scenario imo) or have gained the trust of Kaidou's men somehow idk. Law didn't seem to have any reservations in going down in Bakura district to stop them or anything as far as i could tell from the conversation. Also the fact that they have kimono's with the Heart Jolly Roger could mean that they had acces to some top seweing factory in this whole time.
-
I wasn't aware of the Oda/desk leak thing.
I guess we should have seen the full deck coming, what with Joker and Jack and all that.. I feel dumb never having associated Doflamingo's code name with Kaido's crew. -
Oh my god, the Zoro panel where he blocks the arrow is just so perfectly drawn I'm out of words for this..
-
So there is a card theme to some characters in this arc?
I mean Holdem and Speed are obviously Poker-references.And as an adult i can indeed confirm … You gain immunity to poison when you get older.

The card theme was established since Punk Hazard, with Joker and his suited top officers. Then we also got Ginrummy, and some other guys iirc. And we obviously have Hawkins with his cards…
-
I like how things are lining up, the three worst gens leading up the whole thing against Kaido from Punk Hazard to Wano Kuni facing with the fascists assholes to be taken down.
loved it.
release Kidd now -
Is this Bellamy on the cover story?
The chapter is really good.!
I hope so and thats a really cool city he is in
-
is the Samurai girl a Trap ?
-
I didn't expect Pekoms to come back as a headliner…

Thank you! That's who that is!
Kiku's speech implies they are male, it could be a disguise. Kinemon was able to create disguises, and the other Oden samurai guy could animate drawings; there's the Oden clan ninja, as well. This Kiku character may have a similar ability. It'd be pretty funny to see Kiku's generic beautiful face become replaced with something unique and zany as the above posters were pining for.

very fun chapter..

Bellamy, had some time to see what that city was
-
Yay a female Samurai. Feminists on this forum will be happy by 0.1%.
But will probably still turn into an argument about how they lack.
Anyways, hopefully she gets some romance going with Zoro or at least impress Zoro.
-
The Gazelle-man socks are really bugging me. This could lead to One of the headliners/ Calamities to be a Okama or something (Mr.2 comeback i say!).
Also, we know that the lands is polluted by the factories that manufacture weapons. This could imply that Kaido forced all the smiths in the land to work in the factory but there is no connection to why the factories are poisoning the land. Doesnt it mean that they use some special materials or techniques for the weapon production?
-
seizing the means of production without reducing the population is not real communism
-
I don't think it was mentioned yet that Shanks' jolly roger appears on the cover page…
-
Seeing Zoro like this makes me happy.
-
I don't think it was mentioned yet that Shanks' jolly roger appears on the cover page…
Is there a clear evidance that the man is Bellamy? Could it also be Shanks giving his cloak, short pants, backpack … on his way after the meeting at Reverie? Idk, just thinking about possibilities.
HAHAHA, don't bother. Just realised he has a right arm :)))) but anyway, comparing to the Bellamy we leftat Dressrosa, this one has an extended tattoo on his right arm.
-

Nice catch, its hidden pretty good… you really searched for it

This is quite high voltage arc I must say.
Shame that Sanji is not joining this fight. For sure Sanji will shine with helping people with food, it will be also some sort of motivation for him to fight for starving people..
This might be more Sanji than Zoro arc when it comes to plot to be honest. Sure Zoro will be center of many action scenes but I feel that Sanji will shine here far stronger than during Whole Cake Island.. I would love if beside helping hungry people he would also get to fight someone in same ranking as Hawkings or Drake, so below Calamity but still a very strong Zoan fighter.Arrgghhh… But beside hunger for Sanji awesomness being clear and evident in this arc I must say that it is really fast paced and filled with build up.
I hope for some Gear Fourth ownage of strong Zoan user.
-
Finally the lion zoan is showing up

Banzai from Water 7 had the same and he is not an Okama
