Has anyone asked why so many characters in Wano have devil fruits? Basically, half of the natives we know of have them, which is weird since it's an isolated country. Could Wano be some sort of special place for DFs (minus the Kaido ones)?

I wonder how Luffy managed to precisely steer Sunny to that gap. How did he even manage to move a lying down Sunny? That baboon doesn't seem to be strong enough to help either.
-
Based on luffy vs baboon, or shanks vs seaking, zoro used his CoC for the first time on monet.

Kinemon and Momo got their fruit after leaving Wano so that drops the number of users by 2.
And considering of what we know about hiw DFs are born, it's possible one or two users died sometime in Wano or nearby.

I don't remember anything pointing to Kinemon getting his fruit after wano.

Lotta salty Germans upset at a Brazilian knowing more about Japan than them lol.
I'm austrian and I'm salty about the attitude over so-called ignorance, just bc someone does not know something. I mean, come on ..
And btw I couldn't define a yokai if someone were to ask me what it is, and I'm reading manga for 20 years or so. I'm sure i've heard it before, but just don't remember. Is that prick gonna profile himself over that too?
-
While it was a pretty thoughtless and silly statement that started all of this there really is no need for all of us to get this heated. Let's just keep it civil folks
-
I think it is really cool that Oda is incorporating so much of ancient Japan's history and lessons into this arc, but I can understand that a lot of us on here will not automatically get what something is supposed to be a lot of the time. And there's nothing wrong with that. This forum will be happy to answer any questions, and I know the people on the wiki will be making connections as well. However, and while not too many people have done this, it is silly to complain about Oda using these elements in the first place. Try to see it as a learning opportunity, not a cultural barrier.
It's also funny to see people complaining about the arc being a liberation plot when we've known this was gonna be the case for almost 100 chapters now. Ever since it was revealed that Kaido and the shogun were subjugating Wano and killed Momonosuke's family, we were dead set on this path.

That's the Shonen Jump logo, with the skull & crossbones on its hat being the Straw Hat Jolly Roger
-
Since it's the 50th Birthday of SJ every series had that logo hidden somewhere.

ok, thanks, shame on me ;) LOL

If you actually want to get pedantic why are you arguing that a guy who promptly dissolved the senate and abolished further elections is a democratic leader lol.
But the reason is known: It is because you are chronic shitposter Miss Saturday.
It was a fucking joke, dude. Get your dick out of a knot and go back to waxing poetic about actual shitposters you wasted your time arguing with online.

Very well said, now back to fun stuff…
Do you think the shogun is a powerhouse ? Or just a ruler not suited to fight ? Do you expect him to have several strong officers ?

Yes and yes. But I hope we won't be introduced to a whole lot of houses with different alliances and all. I don't want to get the complexity of GameOfThrone in one single OnePiece arc.
It won't happen, obviously. But if it did have to, it would be a clusterfuck that would make the Dressrossa arc look like a hike

Given what we do know (or can surmise) about Wano, I have a feeling that he will be fairly strong, possibly even on par with (or counting among) Kaidou's commanders.
To begin, since a Shogun is traditionally treated as a military leader, I would assume he follows the standard One Piece pattern of "strength = rank" a la the upper tier Marines. The Samurai of Wano are implied to be a very potent military force in their own right - even being bound by a greater than normal sense of duty and honor, I highly doubt they'd submit to someone too weak to command their obedience through force if needed. I don't think Kaidou's the kind of person to bother dealing with someone too weak to control their "lessers". While we don't yet know what Orochi's giving Kaidou in exchange for their alliance (though I'd imagine it has to do with the factories polluting the landscape), if he couldn't also "pull his own weight" when needed, I'd imagine Kaidou'd just off him and place someone more useful in the position.
Plus, with Momonosuke et al. looking to bring him down, the Shogun's more or less being set up as Kaidou's right hand man, so I think it'd be somewhat disappointing if he just fizzled out once someone (Zoro) cuts through his personal guards and confronts the man directly.

I expect him to be Zoro's opponent and a decent challenge therefore I expect him to be quite strong.
-
He's probably stronger than someone like Katakuri in my opinion. He's probably close to a yonkou-level. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense that the Wano kingdom is independent
I wonder how many valuable swordsman will be left after the shogun
-
hope this Orochi is not as cool as the one in KoF.
-
If the Shogun being a powerhouse means being Zoro's opponent and that means Sanji will fight King, I say go ahead.
-
I wouldn't say that Wano is truly "independent" given how the Beasts Pirates are currently occupying it. It does seem that it was a joint effort between Orochi and Kaido, although if I had to guess I would say that Kaido provided most of the muscle here. After all, anyone going against Orochi's government is faced with the threat of Kaido, not Orochi. So while I could definitely see Orochi being strong on his own (and I hope so), I don't think he'll be significantly stronger than other samurai on the island, or at least the gulf won't be as big as it is with Kaido.
-
@Miss:
Because he's still not a member of the crew lmao. You been duped by Oda my man
You're right. How duped we have been by believing Luffy -captain of the Strawhat Pirates- telling Jimbei -a man asked to join the Strawhat pirates who said he'd accept upon finishing his business with Big Mom(he did) who identifies as a Strawhat pirate- to meet on Wano with the rest of their crew.
How duped and stoopid we look, thinking someone asked by the captain to join the crew, who accepted it upon conditions that have been met and has been directly identified by the captain of said crew as a member of them.
-

Kaido being there seems to be a recent thing so it couldn't be why the country has been recognized as dangerous.

I think the military forces needed to take it are simply not worth the effort not that they are necessarily stronger. Like how the minks is a whole bunch of warriors but on a larger scale due to being a whole country rather than a city. So the trouble of transporting the troops, getting past the weird weather and wage a long ass battle in foreign land where they will lose plent useful men and leave themselves vulnerable in the meantime is not worth it.

Don't know if anyone pointed it out before in this thread, but is this the first time Oda "humanizes" Sunny in this page https://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/911/3 ?

I find it full of lack of feeling of wonder for someone to ask "what is a Yokai" and instead of telling weird and creepy stories about japanesse fae/spirits of nature, it goes into a "you aren't weeb enough to enjoy one piece".
As long as it is not their urgent job, and they ask politelly or humbly, someone saying "I don't know" is the opportunity to blow their minds, not to insult them.
-
Honestly I wasn't expecting Oda to come up with such a large number of interesting characters for Big Mom's crew. Now I have big expectations for Kaido and the Shogunate.
I'd be disappointed if together they have less than 20-30 named officers. -
I doubt that he'll go that overboard again. There was an organic way to boost the Charlottes to enormous numbers, the whole family aspect. Outside family, (lets say just the children, and park Woody Alen/Streusen theories before starting), we meet like Streusen, Some hommies, the treacherous fishmen and gangsters, Pekoms adn Tamago. The rest were like the non-characters like the cooks, some background people..
I mean, we could end up metting a ton of beast pirates, but I don't see it working as well as it did with the Charlottes, as we won't have a shorthand to say "oh look, this octopus mermaid that looks around the age of Praline, I bet she is her twin!", but "Look, a dude with an actual devil fruit and not a smile", that's Shuu(rust guy)/Bery Good(balls guy)/Sharingu(spinning guy) on the battle of the captains in the bridge of hesitation. Without an structure or hierarchy, most of them will end up as databook trivia material.

I'm not saying they have to be necessarily stronger than the Marines/Yonko, but close in power imo
As for the minks, I believe Zunisha hides them from any potential ennemies. Like, they're hard to spot in the first place. The incident with Jack was rare, as I understood it
-
So I guess Kizaru's role in wano is to capture all the defeated Beast pirates and shogun, since besides kaidou, I don't see oda increasing the outside of flashbacks deaths much. Or the reason oda didn't reveal Greenbull at rêverie, only teased his shadow, is because he is saving his proper introduction for wano.
-
I wouldn't let Kizaru handle anyone's capture.
-
Kizaru did capture Arlong.
(And until proven otherwise, I'll keep saying that Drake is a marine deep undercover agent, Corazon 2.0)
-
There is a theory where Apoo, Killer and Hawkins betrayed Eustass Kidd and joined Kaidou .. that would be just as Kaidou fell onto their island and why Kidd was captured but the rest weren't shown.
And with this chapter 1/3 from the theory is confirmed or at least now has a good basis.
Thoughts?
-
Didn't we see Apoo fine and well during the chapter where we saw Kidd already defeated and captured? I feel like this is old news.
-
Kaido falling on the island is pure coincidence. They didn't betray Kidd, they got defeated too and joined Kaido in submission.
If they betrayed anything it's their own ambition. -
I honest-to-god think he´ll be stronger than the calamities.
Oda has always kinda been Zorros biggest fanboy, and I think the reason we haven´t seen him struggle, at all, since the timeskip, is that Oda is going to pit him against an Enemy that´s only below Yonkou themselves and the Admirals. I think the Shogun will be this enemy. That is, if Kaidou is going down this arc. If Luffy doesn´t manage to take him down, I don´t see Zorro defeating an enemy that´s stronger than Luffys strongest enemy at this point, due to Odas typical treatment of the two.
-
Apoo is a coward and Hawkins lets his fortunetelling dictate his actions. It's absolutely no surprise why they joined Kaido.
-

I remember Apoo attacking Kizaru when he could have simply avoided him(his crew was mad at him picking that fight). I'm not sure where the coward idea come from.

I want Orochi to have his own Hideyoshi, Mitsuhide and Tokugawa.

IM NOT THE SERIOUS ONE U ARE, ALSO IM NOT MADFirst, you completely misread Miss Saturdays' sarcasm, and dismiss her post outright, despite the joke actually being in agreement with your "Why would anyone support the empire" angle (because the post featured a minor correction to a point you made, and thus "must" be in bad faith, I assume)
Then, you move on an unprovoked insult to Miss Saturday as a poster.
Then, as Miss Saturday understandably responds in anger, you retort with a dismissive "lol look at this guy getting all emotional for no reason, how lame lol". This is done unironically, despite Miss Saturdays reply directly calling out your tendency to do just that.
Zephos, you're being an ass. When you throw out insults for no reason you don't get to mock people for being angry in response.

Just read the Viz, I think sometimes Stephen can be too smart translating for his own good.
He has one of the mooks question the baboon giving up as " why are you wilting under the pressure". This is just some rough and tumble mook yet he's speaking like an old professor.
Also nobody will convince me Animal Kingdom Pirates sounds cool. His epithet is still king of beasts yet it is Animal Kingdom Pirates. I mean at least call him King of Animals if you're having that name for the crew
