First I thought that was another beast that escaped from ID (the Sphinx to be precisely), but at a 2nd look I saw more of These animals on WB's Homeland. Could it be that the ID-Sphinx was abducted there and brought to ID?
Chapter 909: Seppuku

-
This "40 years ago" again can't be a coincidence.
-
BTW
Is the “Guardian” spelling by the scanlator? And do you think WB and Bakin were member of Rox pirates?
40 years ago is smelling
Mama and kaidou is expected to be in that same pirates group. If WB was there too, just how freaking OP was this pirates? Just how freaking OP was Garp for taking down the captain?
-
I'm kinda tilted.
I don't want to come off as ungrateful or something, but still it's my opinion after all.
It's very nice that we get to see the other strawhats again, that's for sure. It's also nice to have a view over Wano Kuni, which will undoubtedly be the best arc of One Piece yet to come.
Having a little bit of insight on what went on with Marco and on a fraction of Whitebeard's past is also very interesting. If Marco is gonna be part of the Wano Kuni arc, that's gonna be a mistery as it seems. Also, maybe Weeble is really Whitebeard's son, which still seems hard to believe for me. Since her mom was on the same ship as him, this seems more plausible.
However,
if this is the full on beginning of the Wano Kuni arc, the Reverie "arc", which was clearly shaping up to become the best mini-arc post timeskip, ended way too abruptly imo (too soon Oda-sensei). I know that Oda has a tendency to off-panel a lot of big events, but if he off-panels the entire rest of the reverie, like the discussion full of revelations between the kings, the stuff with Fujitora and the Shichibukai system, the third admiral Ryokugyu which we even haven't seen, Vivi and Cobra getting possibly murdered, the situation with Shirahoshi, Monkey D. Dragon, which I've been waiting for such a long time to finally do something, and the other revos and so on, I will hate that so much. Oda likes to off-panel a lot of cool events, but at some ponint you gotta have to deliver. We would like to finally get some answers and see some of that action on-panel.
Maybe I'm getting to ahead of myself, because I hope that we will bounce back here and there to the reverie. This chapter may be a quick insight on the whereabouts of the 2nd group of the strawhats, like that one in the post dressrosa arc where we got a glimpse of the next arc, Zou, and then came back to dressrosa. I'm really crossing the fingers for some more reverie. In Oda I trust.
-
A lot of people saying to expect 3 years here, which I think is a little ridiculous. Dressrosa and Totland both took a long time, but they also introduced almost all their casts during the stories. Wano has the huge advantage of so many of the major players being established entities from the start, even accounting for new local characters and the many unknowns in Kaido's crew. Wano doesn't have to be half colosseum, or trap Luffy in an infiltration mission for the first third so it can build up three dozen new characters. Wano is gonna be big and bloated, yeah, but more than any other recent storyline it's able to get right into the action without missing around.
Two years, tops, and I look forward to being quoted on that when the arc wraps up in 2022.
-
Felt very short. Did not expect the shift to Marco and then Wano in the middle of the Reverie.
But it had a dancing geisha Robin in it…just wow.
-
Wano off to a good start, although Sanji fans may be in dire need of a hug or friendly pat on the back after this last spread.
I'm kind of frustrated we didn't stick with the Reverie, though. It almost feels too soon to begin and this does let out an impression that we may be here in Wano only for a quick "what they're up to" reminder. However if we do end up returning to Mariejoie after a couple chapters, it will feel equally frustrating that Wano's introduction was cut short. Bleh :wassat:
Also, didn't Oda mention in a recent comment that the Straw Hats would face the perilous legend (Rocks, likely) before Wano begins? If so this does confort me in thinking we're not here to stay yet.
-
Knew this should be good from the title alone. Guess Marco is left for later. The possibility of him joining did seem awkward somehow.
One thing does strike me as odd. If Marco has the ability to heal as portrayed in this chapter, why wasn't he able to heal Whitebeard? What are his limitations?
Who knows how much he extended his life already.
Love Wano atmosphere, and the names. That Zoro panel is awesome. And he did that cut with a straight upward jab. Insane. But Oda totally doesn't play favorites between him and Sanji, nah.
Seemed a bit excessive, though. Zoro shouldn't be THAT MUCH of a loose cannon. This just brings more spotlight to him.
-
Muscle brain can't keep still until everyone arrive. sigh!
-

At least that "Rocks"-Group wasn't sexistic. With Bukkin and Linlin (and maybe even Shakky) they had quite a lot of women in their Crew. And I'm more and more interested in this vanished leader/captain tbh.
-
This sudden introductio to Wano and skipping Reverie miniarc (if this really happens and we don't go back to Reverie) is most likely because Oda wants to reveal things at the right time. Revealing who Greenbull is, who Im-sama is and what the Reverie decides now would not affect what happens in Wano. He probably showed the only related panels that influence the Wano arc (like the BM Kaidou teamup, WG not getting involved, the "Cleansing", etc).
Just have faith :D
-
One line of Marco I do not understand completely: "He always wanted all the booze (ok, that's clear, but then…) he never teated us to meals!" What does that mean in context? I can't imagine WB didn't supply his sons with Food. Dictionary sites also gave me no clue either.
Can a native Speaker please enlighten me? -
So its all 47 Ronin reference afterall :DD

It's like when your friend passed away and you tell someone that he is stupid or selfish so that you won't cry from remembering the old times but fail.
IMO. Can someone clarify?
-
tomy surprise i must say that i don't particularly care for wano, the island i mean.
usually oda's islands are a mixture of elements of a country with something unique that still made it distinct..wano is just old japan, to the talso,i understand the need to wit..i don't understand why the need to get jobs in wano instead of staying hidden
-

I also had the Impression it was about WB being "tight with his wallet", but here this is contradicted by the fact, that WB even fed People like Ace and his spade pirates while Ace was still a "foe" to WB. I'll interprete it as:"Marco and co weren't starving, but they also didn't have huge banquet-orgies with Food flying around."
My sister joked:"this is the reason why (fat) BB defected."The shogun's Name could be debated as well:"Orochi" and Kaidou's laugh:"Orororo!" Wasn't there a discussion that Kaidou is not just a Dragon-zoan, but a Dragon-zoan with 8 heads?
-

Marco said 'his share of treasure' so i bet the other members got their own money to spend from the treasure share.
Still, i take it as playful joke/mockery : 'he prefer to feed these peoole instead of his own sons, what a selfish man!'. That's how marco tried to cope with his loss but it fail this time. And i believe that WB does give his sons meal every now and then, it's just a joke from marco. It's like usopp joke about nami hogging all the treasure but we know she gave the guys some pocket money like in water 7.
-
As usual the sh already messed up with the plan.
Wait for luffy's arrival n it'll be more than messy!!
Can't wait for shit happens in wano! -
So, where is Law?
Maybe he is waiting with some other Minks for any signal.
Wano most likely consist of several islands, so they could hide anywhere - Minks should not be very welcomed though. -

I'll agree with both of your lines.
It isn't uncommon, that People tend to mock/joke about dead beloved ones in order to deal with their deaths by listing "bad" char-traits.My sister also asked:"Does the News coo come to Wanp?" I said "very unlikely". An exception would be the Shogun though. But Kinemon's reaction to Nami's Outfit(s) told us that the Wano-People know very Little about the rest of the world.
-
The problem is that if only purpose of Marco is to pass some 'words', no matter how crucial info it may be ,it would be a great injustice to his character. He already lost against BB and there are not many places left where Oda can put him to shine. Even if he participate in the final war against WG, there will be plenty others to share the 'platform' with. Final opponent of BB is definitely going to be Luffy ( and vice versa). He can at most lead the remnant of WB pirates for general aids against vast crews of Teach. Sure, all these places will have plenty opportunities too, but as of now Wano is the best.
Yeah.. I agree. Marco looks like oda's no. 2 scapegoat after sanji. Only hype, no action.
About the chapter, wano design is great, as expected of oda's world building.
And when they were showing other straw hats mingling in, I almost knew Zoro will cause troubleAlso, I was starting to get invested in reverie and wanted to see more of it, but well…
As others mentioned, I guess we will have to wait for another 2-3 years for reverie details to come out. -
A reminder of how awesome of guy Whitebeard was always get a warm welcome from me.
Marco looks good with glasses. He should dress proper tho. So he was/is a doctor? I wonder if he medecine knowledge or just his magic knowledge.
I love that big cat. Also he is a good navigator. I wonder how he knew to find MArco there. Does he have a vivre card?
-
(…)
also,i understand the need to wit..i don't understand why the need to get jobs in wano instead of staying hiddenJust hiding all the time is boring. ;)
Jokes aside, CP9 showed us that Jobs are a good way for agents to hide an identity and to surprise the "not-knowing" enemies.
Bigger question to me is: if Outsiders are not welcome, how did they even get those Jobs? I mean to the locals, Zoro+co must have popped out of nowhere. -

–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Now the question would be how Luffy n co know how to reach kinemon/the rebel army of wano??
-
This masked Woman, playing the Shamisen (?) (Guitar) … Please, not another Princess in need of help.
-
I thought DR stone's preview from mangastream was the OP preview hahaha I panicked for a moment there. It is so appropriate from where the previous chapter left off, we at least how it looked to me at first glance.
DR stone's chapter review from MS's home page.
! From far it looked like a luffy's wanted poster or pic/badly drawn sketch XD
Zoro is already shining

@-Pk-:
This masked Woman, playing the Shamisen (?) (Guitar) … Please, not another Princess in need of help.
Did you get a mask ? From her featureless face on the first Wano page, and neck on the last spread, it seemed to me she isn't quite human
-
Did Kinemon died or something?
-
So he was/is a doctor? I wonder if he medecine knowledge or just his magic knowledge.
Ha ! He knows you can heal any wound with careful application of bandages. By One Piece standards doesn't that make him a top-notch doctor ? Compared to the other guys who merely advice to drink milk and eat meat, I mean.
In all seriousness though, he never struck me as the meathead kind of guy so him having been a doctor all along would fit. medical knowledge might help make sense of how/what he knows about Blackbeard's anatomy, too.On an unrelated side note, I noticed the buildings in Orlumbus' cover story are all stiched and patched up. Possible link with Weevil ? Or someplace we've seen before ?

who needs medical knowledge when you can just heal with the touch thanks to your devil fruit?
from what we know , he could not know a single thing about medicine, but still became a "doctor" in this village since he can heal people.
but i would have liked that the fact that he can use his flames on other people was mentioned before this chapter
-
This chapter felt super short! Loving Wano's look and the getups of the Strawhats, though! And it's so good to see Zoro again being his usual badass and all!
-
Mama and kaidou is expected to be in that same pirates group. If WB was there too, just how freaking OP was this pirates? Just how freaking OP was Garp for taking down the captain?
Why are people assuming that Garp took the Captain? It was never said not even implied. What we have is that Garp is the hero of the marines because of something to do with Big Mom, Kaido and Rox/Rocks. And second we have that "they" lost their captain.
You know who also got the title of hero? Coby! For what, the Rocky Port incident, where the only thing he did was defend the citizens. So … giving that the Rox/Rocks pirates(?) are looking up to be some mega legendary group of pirates, just defending the citizens from their attacks seem rather a huge achievement to get the name "Hero of the Marines". -
So, ummm, Marco is going or not??
Jaimini's Box and Mangastream says completely opposite things!!!!!

They have Kine'mon's vivre card. Minks also do.

I was hoping for Queen from Kaido's crew since she didn't look human and kind of intimidating, but it could be just a mask.
-

A group is sexistic if it doesn't get a quota of girls? LOL.
Also only Linlin is confirmed, the other ones are huge speculations.
-
Usopp, man. There is a frog on your head.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh yeah. Since Zoro cut the magistrate, Kaido will pull a Kizaru then.
-
Got high expectations for this arc - the setting provides an unparalleled depth of cultural reference for Oda so I imagine he's going to have a great time with it.
Not fussed about skipping out of the reverie, or if we go back to it. We got a lot of information from the few chapters which have focused on it. The rest will come in the story as it unfolds.
-
Moriahs return for Wano? At least his attack seems to have been quite large. And the timing is quite interesting as well 23 years ago. Just after rogers death. Does Moriahs attack and then later demise by Kaidou and as well the relationship between kaidou and the shogun to be connected.
-
So Marco is not coming? If he will stay in that village because of the fear of an attack by Shichibukai Weevil, what will happen as soon as the shichibukai system crumbles in a few days? That would make the path for a last-minute Marco arrival on Wa No kuni to save the day
-
Ugh, I really hope Oda doesn't sacrifice Marco as a stepping stone for Weevil to look more badass.
-
So, ummm, Marco is going or not??
Jaimini's Box and Mangastream says completely opposite things!!!!!
https://readms.net/r/one_piece/909/5187/8Ambiguous though it may be, I suspect Jaimini has the correct interpretation. It doesn't make much sense for Marco to pass a message for Luffy if he himself is going to tag along.
-

https://readms.net/r/one_piece/909/5187/8He is not. That is textbook mangastream confusing pronouns
-
Ugh, I really hope Oda doesn't sacrifice Marco as a stepping stone for Weevil to look more badass.
I think we could expect quite the opposite. Remember how Oda depicted Crcodile during Marineford? Attacking Whitebeard, Sakazuki, the executioners? Oda really tried to hammer Crocodile's strength into the audience's mind, even as Crocodile had been the defeated villain over 300 chapters ago.
I think there's also a quote from Oda where he basically says that he doesn't like it that characters who were defeated in the past to be written off as "weaklings" by the audience.
-
Not sure what to think about moving on from Reverie already, but maybe we'll get back to it.
Was nice to see Neko talk to Marco and get some more background on WB.And Wano, hell yeah. Hopefully the rest of the crew will arrive on time for the "festivities".
-

My guess is that Zorro will cause a commotion and the SH's will be revealed, thus inevitable rallying the citizens to join them in the apparent "uprising". At that time Luffy & Co will arrive at Wano.

Dunno, Moria was discarded pretty quickly.
But I hope you're right. Marco is one of my fav characters and I hope we get to see him kicking ass with his full powers. His fight with Kizaru got cut too short.
-

He wasn't. He was defeated at Thriller Bark, but he appeared in Marineford, then he escaped Doflamingo Assassination plan, and he reported Kidd, Hawkins and Apoo alliance. He obviously still around and this is the perfect arc for his appearence.
-
this is how to start a new arc. badass zoro always amaze me.. i really hope this arc will showcase how strong zoro as swordsman.. i mean he really needs to for he dreamed of being the best swordsman in the future
-
Dunno, Moria was discarded pretty quickly.
Moria's "Badassery" was a much less pronounced aspect of his character, while it was central to Crocodile. I mean, just look at how they were presented.
And who says that Moria won't reappear at Wano?
-
As usual the sh already messed up with the plan.
Wait for luffy's arrival n it'll be more than messy!!
Can't wait for shit happens in wano!By the time Luffy comes, Zoro will be both the Shogun and an Emperor.
