Guys, we are shaping up for quite the week.
So, latest dropped news is that McCabe wrote a memo fearing that Rosenstein was providing Trump a cover story for firing Comey when he put out the letter. So, uh, not that it matters, where I am on this now:
-Rosenstein was transparently providing cover, since his stated rationale–Comey was unfair to Hillary--was discarded the next night on national television by our Big Adult Son President
-looking back, his particular contentions in a well-functioning government probably would have passed muster, since it's clear that the FBI repeatedly broke protocol with regards to Hillary and her e-mails and for what seemed like political reasons, i.e. Comey's implicit case that they were worried how the FBI would be perceived after a Clinton victory, all of which swung the election
-regardless of the wisdom of helping fire a legitimate and effective adversary to Trump in a time of ne'er-ending crisis, Rosenstein parlayed the firing eventually into the Special Counsel, which seems almost guaranteed to have a better chance of getting through all of this than either Intel Committee or the FBI
-McCabe and Comey, meanwhile, have been at each other's throats despite being pretty close back in the day because of an OIG Report that pretty bluntly sided with Comey in a disagreement over McCabe's honesty, legitimating (in technical terms, at least) his Eleventh Hour firing
Meanwhile, Rosenstein is still on the record saying history will vindicate his decision with firing Comey, leaving the main figures at the legitimate Trump-Opposing DOJ looking like Calvin and his clones:
Oh, and there's also Jeffery Beuregard Sessions, who is currently being slut-shamed into retirement for not un-recusing himself at Trump's command. So, the DOJ is and has apparently been a mess for a while.
Sooooooooo. OIG report on the handling of the whole emails thing comes out next week.
Get ready for so much smokescreen, confusion, and bad-faith finger-pointing it'll make your head spin. It is going to be brutal, and it is going to make the DOJ look terrible, and Trump is going to point that out while ignoring the fact that all of it helped him at the expense of his opponent.
I'm in so much dread.
