You're right. The guy is not overly ambitious. The only way he's getting married is a time-skip in the last chapter.

Except only a Nakiri can inherit the family business. If he aims to get the headmaster position in the future (which I doubt), Soma first should marry a Nakiri.
Ideally, it is not a set in stone thing. If there is no Nakiri successor, the school closes? And given that it was so easy to by step old man, for edgy father. And that the E10 actually make the decision, it seems like a non-problem.
It is about themes. Erina fits the role in the first seat, which are filled with paperwork among other chores, while the headmaster is "crazy/free" and does what they want. Souma's food ideology is better for the future of the school, as it promotes diversity, creativity and a competitive aspect.
Erina then makes sure that the headmaster's crazy direction is at least, delicious and approved by the God Tongue/first seat.
-
Can we get a redo
-
I gotta admire the author's YOLOness. He's clearly not going to bother to fixed the messy state of Tootsuki Academy.
Within the same semester, the director was replaced with a new one. The new one change the entire school syllabus. And now he got removed to be replaced with his teenage daughter who will replace the school syllabus again. Yet, this won't impact the school's reputation at all. Fantastic.
Technically, Erina will be lower rank than Soma since the E.10 are more powerful than everything else in the SnS universe.
At least, Tsukasa x Rindou is kinda confirmed.
-
Is this boss baby.
Did Erina become the boss baby.
She's a child and now she's a boss! Boss baby!
It's boss baby, isn't it.
This series is boss baby.

Accepting this position makes Erina a high school dropout running a high school.
-
Not having Somas Dad as headmaster for maximum trolling. Feels bad
-
If Trump can be the United State's president then a fifteen-year old girl can also be a headmaster or a japanese cooking academy.
-
I wouldn't try to think too hard about all of this. It's pointless to apply logic to completely illogical situations.
-

Oh, I think I understand it better now.
I believe grandpa's intention with this move is to relieve Erina of any chores she had when she attended as a member of the Student Body, giving her all the time to enjoy her life to her fullest, something she was deprived of because of the big responsibilities she had before. I recall there was a special chapter centered around that.
Hisako will of course be appointed as Erina's personal secretary for any stuff that has to be issued.
-
I swear Senzaemon forgot he had an adult son & a daughter in law that carries the Nakiri name. Clearly, Erina is the only Nakiri that can take the position.
Now, Soma can brag that he slept with the principal of the school.:ninja:
-

You don't need to think too hard to realize this is the most braindead idiotic piece of writing in the entire series.
Yeah, Erina can be headmaster!
And Takumi, you can be the president of Japan!
And you, Megumi, I elect queen of the moon!
Woooooooo!
-
The headmaster is basically the head taster and organizer. Erina is perfect for that and proved as much when she actually took the time to properly assess the different dishes that Polar Star's residents brought to her. If the point of the academy is to help make great cooks even greater and enrich the world of food, then who else could be better for the job? I mean, is it really that flabbergasting that a manga would have a 16-17 year old lead a school, that this manga would?
-
Timeskip to a week later, and the entire school is on fire.
"Erina, we already told you, you can't run the school by cooking it."
-
So, what's left to explore in this manga?
-

Azami became headmaster and then switched up the entire academic system. Erina has the responsibility of changing it back.
What is she going to do, lick the school until the system tastes better?
-

Pretty sure they would have rejected it anyway, because they are running their own business.

The doujins are coming…

Boy, are you greatly underestimating her…
I mean, in the one-shot Erina was a teacher, and people were talking how she would soon inherit the family business.
-
Boy, are you greatly underestimating her…
Oh yeah, guess she can bite it, too. Maybe chew it a little.
-
Pretty sure they would have rejected it anyway, because they are running their own business.
Yeah, their 16 years old niece being the director make more sense
If Alice was the one who was made director, I wonder if you would call bullshit on it?
But since is Erina, everything is fine. -
But don't you see? Erina did a cooking! A good cooking!
Erina for god-king of disneyland.
-
What a twist!
-

But since is Erina, everything is fine.I woulnd't call it BS. But just look at Alice, she's just too carefree for her own good, lol. Erina and Alice upbringing went opposite directions.
-
I'm sure Erina will do fine at planning the curriculum for all the years of study she never attempted.
-

Bring back shokugekis for good, meet with the suppliers and companies that were spurned before (the ones who she already knows from tasting all of her life), bring back specialized cooking clubs, and with the use of her God tongue I'd wager that the standards for creativity, skill, and good tasting cooking will go even higher. It's not a coincidence that the two dishes she cooked incorporated or were inspired by the dishes Soma and Megumi had already cooked before. And yes, this is a manga about cooking, are you really so bothered that the character with the literal God tongue is going to better a shonen school for cooking by tasting and bettering the people's meals through their shokugeki?

There are already teachers at the school that I'm sure can handle the thing, you know curriculum, that teachers usually deal with. Azami being in control of it seems to be his thing. And even if Erina handles it, is that out of the ordinary for a shonen dual protagonist who already did that with the rebels in the last arc during their training?
-
At this point, this is totally Toriko like someone else mentioned. I'm just here for the crazy ride, good art, fun panels and crazy twists. Common sense has left this manga a long time ago…although, not that Daddy Nakiri is leaving, maybe common sense can come back again. Who knows.
I like this manga still.
-
I for one am interested in the new dynamic going forward.
An Ippo kind of thing where he became Japanese champ and suddenly became the challenged instead of the challenger.
Fighting from the top rather than the bottom. If this can be pulled off okay throughout the next few arcs, then this will have been a really cool switch up.
But yeah, for now, on paper it's dumb. Good thing I was always in this manga for the fun anyways. -
Does this ending forshadow timeskip btw? I can totally see a '6 months later and things were back to normal. Person Y started a new crab clubn, Person X started a new farm on the school grounds…as for Nakiri and Souma, well..... insert shokugeki and internal squarrels''
Maybe not though.
-
Can't we just give Doujima and Souma's dad executive powers to the school, make Erina honorary headmaster with no executive powers until she's 25 and completed a business-management degree, and return to wacky school based hijinks? And have Souma fuck up his first Shokugeki and get thrown down to 10th seat. Yay.
Can we Re:Zero the series to stop Azami from showing up in the first place?
Can we actually seriously not give the 16 year old tsundere a major executive role in a multibillion dollar organisation. Can we strip the Elite 10 of their powers, and maybe give them to shareholders of the company instead? You know, like normal companies?
Ugh this is plot twist is so stupid it physically hurts.

It depends, can you cook well enough to beat the author in a Shokugeki?
-

I can probably beat Tosh and the writer, but I'll be in trouble if they get the cooking consultant for the dishes to represent them.
-
It's hilarious to me that anyone would be so hung up on a 16 year old becoming headmaster in a series that has people literally orgasm and involuntarily strip over food. My god, the realism in this show has always been closer to the damn plot of Pokemon video games than whatever you guys want it to be. If something like this would bother you this much, I don't understand how you've gotten this far in the manga.
-
sooo..what's stopping the now former first seat to just get back his seat in a shokugeki the week after?

i mean, he is a better chef than souma..same goes for rindoThe elite 10 have no obligation of accepting a shokugeki for their seats, they mentioned this when the first years met the elite ten for the first time.
Not in so many words, I guess, but chapters 118/119 make it perfectly clear the elite 10 can just refuse.
-

can you imagine souma refusing a direct challenge?

i mean, he is a better chef than souma..same goes for rindoDon't they graduate? They're third years. But still, can we appreciate how stupid it is that the Elite 10 have no obligation to accept Shokugekis? Like, how do they ever get displaced then? A bas case of having too big an ego and accepting challenges despite having no obligation to? Seriously, if you get 5th seat, what's stopping you from never accepting a challenge ever, and staying 5th seat forever.
-
can you imagine souma refusing a direct challenge?
Well, no. But if you want to go there, I guess my answer would be: the writing won't go that way, the author won't allow it.

You're right. I'm glad that in this series where one of the major themes is education systems, the one to stand at the top of it all now is someone who didn't even go through it.
It may not make sense…
But it's fiction! And in fiction literally everything can make sense so nothing is bad writing!

So does the administrator position actually do anything?
Who knows! It's fiction! Everything can be anything at any time and it's all good writing!

Exactly! Now you're getting it.
-
Wow.
What a shitfest.
This chapter cements how terrible this arc is and how Shokugeki should have been a shorter manga with more emphasis on cooking than on trying to be some kind of shounen fanfare.
Like really, this manga was good until this very arc.
Then it goes to the trash.
You can tell that the author went haywire and have no idea what the fuck he was doing except for a few chapter here and there. -

It's fiction! So suspension of disbelief isn't a thing that matters at all because we're meta and all that! Meta-manga ftw. (except Souma sn't meta enough to go full Medaka Box, and anything beyond Nakiris having stripping powers, and food induced orgasms, is too far.)
-

It is hilarious to me that anyone would be so hung up on how Naruto's final villain came out of nowhere because the author admitted he'd cornered himself by making the previous final villain unbeatable in a series about magic ninja! I mean those ninja are so magical! Anything goes!
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
If next chapter, Soma busted out his asshole, put it on the plate and it turned out eating his ass was the most gourmet of all cuisine and they elected him super mayor of canada it would be great writing! Because sometimes people's clothes come off when they eat food in the series! It's so silly anything goes!

Wagomu.exe is overheating from trying to process the sheer amount of bullshit_plot.mp4 and Bad_Writing_Apologists.docx
Somebody get him an ice-pack and goat-plushies to calm him down.

I think you guys are turning this more of a trouble than it needs to be.
But that's just me.

I think you guys are turning this more of a trouble than it needs to be.
But that's just me.
Same tbh.
Though watching Wagomu lose his mind over this is pretty entertaining.I would never claim for this twist to be good writing,
but luckily for me I don't need good writing to enjoy what is clearly a series created with a YOLO attitude.
If this is literally just a goofy ecchi story about chefs without a care for the dumb things it does in the name of entertainment,
then I'm actually 100% on board with that. I love when a series isn't afraid to just go wild and do what it wants. It's why I didn't mind the plot of Air Gear getting out of control.
A manga about fighting on rollerblades was always gonna keep me reading just for the fun factor.Same with this. It's funny characters doing cooking things.
If that's the extent to which I look at this manga, then of course I'm gonna be fine with whatever happens.
And honestly, I'm probably a happier person for it.@The Naruto comparison:
There's a difference between denying the bad writing of a serious, high end drama story,
and accepting the bad writing of a goofy fun story and not caring about it. -
Ha ha. So goofy!
Remember folks, in any series with an ounce of comedy and a wink of fiction nothing matters!
One Piece is funny sometimes. What if Chopper was One Piece? And they had to skin him alive to get it? Ha ha ha good writing! Wow.
-

Ugh, AirGear was such a waste of time, I regret reading it.
-
This thread is way too hilarious, I can't handle it right now I do hope this bullshit is finally over. Either end this manga already or go back to what it was before the Azami arc. When it was good and fun. And had good ratings in the WSJ. C'mon.

Smugness is very fun and makes your position come across much more mature, so thanks for that. As for the actual argument you're making, I don't think I have to suspend my disbelief in this instance since from my perspective, Erina was built up from her introduction as someone who constantly took on higher responsibilities than her age would suggest she should based on her upbringing as a Nakiri and as the daughter of Azama, all a blessing and a curse. We are introduced to her as the youngest ever Elite 10 member, gaining entrance before even entering the school (maybe you should have turned away from the manga then) and having created the entrance exam to even transfer in.
Would it be ridiculous in the real world for a 16 year old to become headmaster of a high shool as prestigious and important to the culinary world as Totsuki? Almost certainly unless they were a legit supergenious, and even then they'd have trouble getting respect. Does it make sense in the story we've been told thus far in this manga? I'd say it does. Nepotism is dumb, but we've known for a while that this position is "in the family." We know that one of the most important functions of the headmaster is to taste dishes, just from how the headmaster has been used in the story. We know that she has numerous relationships with various food companies around the world and I think we can assume that her grandfather will lend her some kind of hand, even in his retirement. In a Manga world, with all of this, I can believe that Erina would become the headmaster and if you're going to respond, please avoid being a smug, or at least be more clever about it.
