By the way, there's a break next week. :(
Chapter 904: The Entrance of The Revolutionary Army Commanders
-
-
Also: UGH yall all killing me with this 50 Million bounty stuff. Bounty /= power level. How many times must this be pointed out? Dude clearly got his bounty by being evil and mean to defenseless people.
Even someone with a one million berry bounty shouldn't get his ass beaten like that.
But that doesn't matter. What seems to be the point is that Belo Betty can make people way way way more powerful than they are. So that is not really an issue in the end. It seems kinda haxed from we saw though -
This was probably already said, but it's possible that Pinkbeard's bounty was also inflated due to his affiliation with Blackbeard.
-
Good chapter with great new characters!
Dragon's top branch is pretty cool. :)
I really happy that there is no break… -
Oh my god, who the hell cares?! In a manga series with lots of strong characters, much of those being female, there's still people whinning about it. Geez, the professionally offended really ruin everything.
It's not unreasonable to want female characters that are strong and cool in all of the same ways as the male characters. Sure, Nami, Robin, Big Mom, Belle Mere, Kureha, Kokoro, and Hancock are some of the coolest characters, that have some of the coolest powers - but numbers-wise they're way out numbered by the men, and the cool women still don't get hardly any of the battle time that the men do, and when they DO they barely ever get battered and bruised in hand-to-hand combat. Are women physically weaker than men, generally? Yes. I'm not 12 years old anymore, and I've swallowed that pill, but it's a fantasy story with all sorts of outlandishly powerful males that far outscale the humanly possible. Why can't the women do the same?
Also, I'm no prude. I love sexy girls, pinup girls, what have you - including Oda's take - but it's also very reasonable to be over Oda's voluptuous, size-nothing bodies that have become ridiculously ubiquitous for all non-monstrous female designs. Especially considering that characters previously established to be modestly breasted, suddenly receiving a pair of Dolly Partons. Thank GOda for the Kokoros, Kurehas, and Big Moms of the world. One Piece is my shit, easily one of my favorite pieces of media ever, and that's why the shortcomings bother me so much. I want it to be perfect.
-
"Didn't one of the Vice Admirals in the Buster Call at Enies Lobby have a Spider zoan fruit?"
Sure looks like he said zoan, not logia.
Are you trolling me right now, or did you completely lose track of this conversation? Lol.

Stereotypical pirates in my pirate manga? What an unexpected welcome surprise! The Revolutionary Army Commanders must be pretty strong to defeat Pinkbeard so easily. His mustache and cool hat indicates great power.
I'd like to see more of these Commanders, not sure what to make of them yet. I must say Belo Betty has the least interesting design of the bunch. I think, for me, it's because compared to the other three she is the most "normal" looking, so she has the whole standard attractive woman in One Piece thing going on. I do like how her devil fruit power compliments her status as a revolutionary, so atleast there's that.
-
Not entirely joke theory: Belo Betty is Bellet's father who was turned into woman 17 years ago.
I mean, they both have names that sound similar and we learned to grow weary of names and events thrown inconspicuously by Oda. I would also say Betty look similar to Bellett's woman form, but that doesn't mean a lot in OP…(in case someone doesn't remember, chapter 537).
-
@Kaido:
I'm not saying Betty Boop averts Oda's tendencies with women, but there's nothing about her that goes really low by shonen standards
Yeah, if anything, the blame on "overly-sexualizing" woman in this case should go to Delacroix, the guy who originally painted the painting that Betty is based on. Tastes and standards are always subjective, but I think in this case it was just Oda referencing a piece of classical art to fit a theme and because it's a shonen manga and he can't show women's nipples, he had to censor it slightly.

Oh my god this is so refreshing to see.
I agree on all fronts. It's a simple answer but I'd argue that the core reasons of why we don't see more badass female characters is 1: Oda self-admitted he's limited on the designs; it's just a shortcoming that's just going to be here, 2: Oda does seem to have a problem having beautiful women be beaten up, and honestly that's not something I like to see too, too much, but that's perhaps(?) a flaw in my character that much of many societies possesses, 3: Oda's always been marketing this to teenage boys, and he knows they like cool dudes and big boobs.
-
SUPER underrated comment! +1
A lot of people don't seem to understand the main threat that the Revolutionary Army represents
Especially since WG treats their subjects like shit. Even without CD "excursions" here and there.
-
Are you trolling me right now, or did you completely lose track of this conversation? Lol.
? It sounded like you were saying I was calling Onigumo a spider logia. Unless you meant something different.
-
You said you wanted a spider logia
Someone said Onigumo already had a spider zoan
Avocado pointed out you were speculating about a spider logia, not a zoan, so Onigumo didn't crossed that out -
Belo Betty's nothing new. Like I said spoiler thread, I'm just glad she has sunglasses so I don't have to be as easily reminded that she is probably a Nami/Robin clone.
1: Oda self-admitted he's limited on the designs; it's just a shortcoming that's just going to be here,
Ye he has no problem diversifying female designs in arcs with lots of female presence, such as Amazon Lily and Totland. Probably he has a phobia of getting called out for having too many similarly designed women in such close vicinity. So he has to make them different. Which is a shame.2: Oda does seem to have a problem having beautiful women be beaten up, and honestly that's not something I like to see too, too much, but that's perhaps(?) a flaw in my character that much of many societies possesses,
It's actually more nuanced then that. He IS open to having female characters get hurt. But only under a few circumstances. One is if the pain can be easily obscured/brief without much visual damage, like when Luffy punched Vivi in Alabasta or kept humorously eliminating Miss Valentine's Day with OHKO attacks. Two is if the females involved are "monstrous"-looking enough, hence Luffy hurting Alvida, Hancock's sisters, and Big Mom. Three is if the perpetrator is a villain, and he typically has them hit pretty girls so that they look more reprehensible that way (Pinkbeard did that in this very chapter. So did Niji with Cosette, Blackbeard with Bonney, Spandam with Robin, Enel with Robin, Crocodile with Robin, or Arlong with Bell-mere and Nami).
Anything that's not those things usually has female characters get battle interruptions, psychological weaknesses, or they fight Nami lol.
3: Oda's always been marketing this to teenage boys, and he knows they like cool dudes and big boobs.
That's why i think more creators should put effort into dispelling those preferences and showing that women can be cool/valuable without big boobs 95% of the time, but oh well. Shonen gonna shonen.
-

No it didn’t. I suggest you reread what he wrote

I like BB (Big Breasts?) She seems sassy.

At the last page, she has Bonney's face tho.

Lulusia is located on the Grand Line. This isn't an East Blue village. I don't understand why people are baffled about these citizens taking down a 50M-guy with support of the RA. Buff the people of Whiskey Peak and two Don Kriegs are toast.
-
Wonder how many stick whacks Arlong would take

Wonder how many stick whacks Arlong would take
All this stick-beating talk has got me thinking: Has Oda ever thought of licensing OP-themed pinatas? I'm sure they'd be popular enough, and I know I've had at least a couple times I've wanted to beat several OP characters with a stick.
-

Well in real life, if you're name isn't Ronda Rousey, I'm not trying to see women get beaten up or anything, but in a battle manga, I wanna see my favorite ladies get into bad-ass scraps. I understand that that's just how Oda is, and I understand who he's selling to, but I also know that if he gave those teenage boys small-breasted fighters, they'd learn to like it. Having at one time been a teenage boy, I can vouch for that. I loved seeing Android 18 fight.
-
Wonder how many stick whacks Arlong would take
Arlong was a fishman (base level 10x stronger than a human) and had an artificially deflated bounty. I doubt he'd lose.
This pinkbeard dude probably got an inflated bounty due to his connection to Blackbeard, and it's probably a recent increase that overshot his value. That and Oda's bounties suffer from Shonen powercreep.
-

Not sure what you mean. People who live on Grand Line are born with higher power level than people in "weakest Blue"?
And I don't think anyone is baffled. It's just lame.
-
Arlong was a fishman (base level 10x stronger than a human)
Probably like five whacks from a milk maid then huh.
Maybe ten if he was underwater when the whackings occured.

I mean this isn't the first time we've seen 'temporarily enhanced' people in One Piece doing ridiculous things. Jango did it back in the Captain Kuro Arc. Surely BB just does it much much better.
-
Me personally i'd rather read it as a testiment to how powerful and potentially broken her DF is than Oda disregarding the internal logic of his universe. But yeah he's only human and could, like you just said, just sacrifice consistency for a better story flow. Either way it's just a fun thing to note upon.
Well everyone in the strawhats got a 50M raise becasue they are in Luffy's crew. Maybe once they learned that Blackbeard took a random pirate, named and let him used his flag they gave him that minimal bounty. they do have reason to prudent since he was a no name that suddenly became a big deal.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
All in all i'm not a huge fan of the fluffy way arming citizens to rise up is presented as here. Like remember back in Alabsta where Vivi got smacked for being so naive about what a horrible and crazy thing a civil war is and what it means for the people and how you better be prepared to lose both limbs and friends. Like that scene where Kohza tells his right hand man to show his scars to the kid and tells him to go home because this isn't a game. Contrast that with the way it's presented here
Another reason why Alabasta is the written arc by Oda.
-

This is easily the silliest of them all though.
Now Croc would be a toughie but if the stick is wet he's probably no more than a twenty whacker.
-
It doesn't seem like she is the daughter of a vice-admiral
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Moda#After%20TimeskipAnyway, we should keep an eye on that Revo that cheers up people.
Well I misread that a lot
-
Not sure what you mean. People who live on Grand Line are born with higher power level than people in "weakest Blue"?
No, but the citizens of the Grand Line and in the New World have to deal with bigger threats all the time? It makes them tougher?

She definitely looks older than nami here, something like 35 year old nami but with slightly smaller eyes.

It's also convenient that people are assuming this 52 million dude has to be physically stronger than everyone luffy has fought beforehand. Maybe he's a schemer who crafts plan is just a slightly above average strength guy with a glass jaw. Some might say that the buff is too strong but the whole "could a buffed coby beat akainu" type conversation is just lame to me.
-
This is easily the silliest of them all though.
Is it? I would think hypnotizing people to make them believe they're super strong sounds more nonsensical.
At least when knowing the context of magical cheerleading fruits.
-
Morley is a creep. I wonder if Lola would marry him. Also I'm not sure he has a fruit or is just using that gear on his back. I'm intrigued by that gear.
Bello Betty is hot and I like her style. I'm not gonna pretend I don't see or enjoy it. Also she's so great at pep talk it boost your energy. I wonder if that helps in the bed too? The hat looks weird on her.
Lindberg definetely have the look of a scrapper down. I have a hard time buying him as a leading man. More your mad scientist it seems.
Karusu makes me think of another but I can't pinpoint. In another manga he would feel badass but right now I can't pinpoint my feelings. However crows power seems like something I would love in anime format.
I really get the impression the impression Koala and Inazuma get a sit just because reader like them not because it makes sense.
I'm gonna suppose that each of them have a batch of powerful underlings and they are the leader of each blues. No need to move everyone just the heads. I do find it interesting that their abilities don't strike has powerful weapons. I enjoy that bit of diversity to the skills you develop(same for the chocalate power).
Any idea what the flag represent? Also they have card.
Damn that chapter was short. Like that battle part should have taken less page and more of the talk with Dragon or just a snipet of the strawhats sailing just I feel less like something is missing.

I really need answers
Like how is Morly's ability functionally identical to the Stone- stone fruit. -
Why are people so upset, fake luffy shot a 50 or so million guy with a handgun, a fucking handgun in one piece…

remember pyro and damask from d block. or something. h block. q block. @ block.
it doesn't matter. no one remembers.
These new characters except Lindbergh reminds me of them. Kinda w/e designs, and if they didn't have such a big title, they could pass off as part of the bellamy pirates and I wouldn't notice.
That said, I love Morley's eccentricities so far, and Betty's ability is super interesting. Karasu has done little for any sort of big impression, and Lindbergh is a little cliche'd so far. I feel like this should have had the same effect as, say, revealing the supernovas, but it just didn't.
I can't really pinpoint the problem with this chapter's lack of grip on my interest, but I postulate it has to do with, like I said, the designs and the lack of or uninteresting interactions.
I really forward to see what we're gonna get from these characters - despite my nonchalance, I am excited. The reverie is going to be so fun.

since when is kid sabo's style suddenly a revolutionary thing. did three of them really just copy sabo's style

Funnily enoug, those are the same character. And of course no one remembers since Oda never gave too much highlight to him.
Unlike what happened here.

This is like a fusion of Pica's, Inazuma's and Señor Pink's fruits.

That's actually a decent way to eventually rope them back into the story. Whenever the Straw Hats meet the Revolutionaries again, Germa can be there. And working with the Revolutionaries is how they can finally make their disgusting lives into being productive for the world's wellbeing.
-
The Sabo hat on every RA commander bugged me as well, but then I remembered that the other two brothers had influential hat stories too… So, I'm ok with it I guess :D
-
I don't think Germa will work with the Revolutionaries as the Vinsmokes are the exact type of monarchy that needs to be toppled. Ruling over brainwashed clones and trying to conquer innocent people are kinda of a no-go to liberty.
-
One Piece deserves better in my humble opinion.
Yeah, better fans. Seriously though, I'm not against criticism, but some of you guys make it seem like you have zero knowledge about the manga you've apparently been reading for years.
I'm not the one insulting people.
"Man-babies"
"Just get yourself treated"
Don't exempt yourself even though you're not the who started it.

You're just a rude boy, aren't you.

You've said it all. You should have kept quiet.
It would have been wiser. -

Yeah, it keeps them on the sidelines just enough in my opinion. Sanji also has a connection with Ivankov as well as the new RA headquarters too.
