Solid chapters, the commanders kinda feel like Oda standard, but the pep pep fruit is cool.
Chapter 904: The Entrance of The Revolutionary Army Commanders

Do you seriously only complain? I can't figure out if you are being serious or not.
What do you mean here ? please e.l.a.b.o.r.a.t.e.

We all know you post like a nihilist douchebag.
-
@Count:
If you want to see how Oda executes a bland pirate design he makes in two minutes, then it's the pirates on the upper right corner of this page:
He is a bit bland, but I'd wager Oda spent loads of time on him since he's the main antagonist of the first Romance Dawn. Plus, his beard design looks suspiciously like the one Whitebeard would have later (and Pinkbeard's sort of resembles whitebeards). Also, reading the first volume of Romance Dawn and remembering Oda's initial focus on Peace Main's and Morgania type pirates makes me think. hmmmm…..
-
On the other hand, what's up with geography and time?? Karasui was in Dressrosa (his crows took Sabo) and now he's at Luluvina, and he's going back to Kamabakka. It just confuses me
Well it's not necessarily confirmed that Karasu was in Dressrosa. For all we know, he used his ability to provide crows for Sabo from far away.
That reminds me, how did Koala leave Dressrosa?

Clear pictures of Revolutionary Army flag. It seems the head and wings of a dragon and… a torch?
-
Talking about the people, Lulusia Kingdom is the kingdom of that aggressive princess kidnapped last chapter and their king is one of the characters which had a line in the flashback of the Reverie from 8 years ago… ironically, he's that man holding Dragon's picture: https://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/142/6
How did you find he is the king of Lulusia Kingdom? I couldn't find his name in chapter 142, and his face wasn't in chapter 903 as I recall ^^"
-
We all know you post like a nihilist douchebag.
We all know he posts like a nihilist, but calling him a douchebag is going a bit too far, man. I also can't understand the amount of… Well, not really hate, but complains about this chapter. I thought it was a very nice introduction to the revolutionary army proper. All we knew about them was Dragon and a few loose pieces here and there. This was the first real focus we had on their personalities, ideologies and methods of action other than stealth or espionage. I liled it. The designs are low-key but nice. I like the Belo design being inspired by the french republican half-naked lady! Still waiting to know what happened in Baltigo in more detail, since every time it is brought up it is swiftly swept under the rug...

I've already said in a post --that you know very well-- in the HxH thread why weekly serialized comics were badly written in the short run. -
@Kaido:
I don't want another Zou. It was fun to read weekly, but I haven't felt too inclined to go back and reread it because it's just a bunch of infodumps. I want to see this declaration of war and all the resulting political turmoil unfold before my eyes.
I know RA declaring war against nobles has some dramatic effects, but if Oda truly wants to make it a all out war at this point, then we are missing lot of pieces.Foremost we hardly know much about the power of RA. He literally has to develop Dragon and his army through the war.He had done that before with WhiteBeard and his subordinates, but most of the big shots eventually converges at the battle for marineford. Here this is not possible. Our protagonist is missing for this monumental event and heading to fight with Kaido.I see no reason for Shank heading towards Reverie .BB is a option though. Fujitora is roaming in the sea and i bet Green Bull is somewhere close to Wano (conveniently).
I always thought the all out battle will take place only after Luffy and co. discover One Piece and reveal the true history to the world. It is too early for RA take on WG in that context. -
I expected there to be more like 7-8 commanders. Four feels a bit too few for an organization as large and ambitious as the RA.
Can someone fluent in Japanese confirm whether they indeed said "THE four commanders" rather than something like "four of the commanders"?
-

There are 5 empty seats at the meeting. One for Sabo and 4 for the other commanders
-
Yes and that is probably what i liked the most in the chapter. Oda for once is reasonable in term of character number. Having only 9 main characters for the revolution army is a great news :-)
After rereading the chapter, I wonder what uses is Morley backpack. . Did Lindbergh made it ?
Also i thought at first that Betty had short hair but she doesn't and I was disappointed. I would prefer if she hadn't this weird ponytail. -
@uniaka:
Sanji is just Oda's alter ego, even trump has more respect for women. No wonder other mangas are still more popular then OP outside of japan.
Yes because drawing women in skimpy clothes is worse than discriminating and sexually assaulting them, even if said woman hasn't been portrayed sexually at all and spearheaded most of the action this chapter

She was introduced getting her brea squeezed by that other girl( even the sound tranlation says as much), and her power is to encourage Others to fight for her.
Sometimes I'm not sure if oda is 15 or his fanbase.

It's not them they're worried about, it's the milkmaids.
SUPER underrated comment! +1
A lot of people don't seem to understand the main threat that the Revolutionary Army represents

I was definitely put off by Oda introducing yet another female character breast-first (hey Shirahoshi!). It's such an odd choice for such minimal return that I can't figure out why he does it.
And yes she does have a devil fruit, in canon, that gives her the power of…a cheerleader? Out of context...okay, sure. But when looking at Oda's patterns, it definitely becomes groan-worthy.

Dude, this is an 19th century painting. Not an actual person

Why does it matter if it's a painting? It's an iconic figure, it is present on french euro coins. It's just tiring to hear the constant complaining about women in OP. We get it, Oda is sexist, so is Japan in general. Our values today differ a bit, I know. Move on. What is wrong with Betty having an open shirt and not wearing a bra?
-
Wasn't there an Amazon on Hancock's ship who dressed similar?

Actually it's a Semeuse on French coins not a Marianne
-
I wonder how many days past between the escape from Totland and the crew reading the news. How long does it take for morgans to fly back home, write the article, write the newspaper, print the news paper and send it around the world with literal birds? (Yes, I am aware, that Morgans is not doing most of this himself)
Maybe he already had the information of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet reserved for some big news, and then the Wedding happened, and he was writing the article on the flight back, and was faxing the article to the headquarters.
But it feels like a mere day is not enough to do all of this -
I really like Betty's design… in isolation anyways. But of course, things aren't that simple. Oh well.

Is there anything more classicaly feminist than being comfortable with your body and not being afraid of showing your breasts?

It matters because it's just a painting. That as I said, conveys misogynist views about how we tend to picture women. And it's not something that actually ever happened. I don't get to see women hanging around naked in Paris to cheer me up.
Not that I particularly care at this point. I dropped the feminist complaints about one piece during high-school. But I'm just saying that it's not because it's from a revolutionary painting that it's fine. Like, the argument doesn't hold for me.
But no, like I said, I don't mind much at this point.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Yay more RA stuff.
Good chapter , with cool designs ,steampunk aesthetic seems to be general theme for the RA designs.
Sabo bit was quite cute.
Belo Betty is probaly based on Marianne, i hope her fruit is explored more.
Haha Morley my dude that quite short skirt.
I assume Lindbergh is a mink.
Hmm Karasu is quite a enigma ,we saw his crows before on Dressrosa, i assume all regular animals in zoan awaken are going to be similiar (huge bipedal animals with ridiculous endurance ) , with Karasu i don't know.I'm guessing Cobra is going to get killed and RA will declare their intenions then and make the public know why Cobra died perhaps, don't really know how but Karasu might do something similiar that Lafitte did.
-

If we go by the table, the upper echelon of the RA seem to be Dragon, Sabo, Belo Betty, Morley, Lindbergh, Karasu, Ivankov, Inazuma and Koala. Even excluding Dragon we still have 8 members, 7 if you take Sabo. It's unclear how exactly they are ranked (in ID Inazuma seemed to treat Iva as his superior while Iva seemed to treat him more as a right hand man, they didn't seem exactly equals), but there you have it. It just happens we already knew a good portion of the group.
One Piece Blue Databook.
Actually he is the king of Ilisia Kingdom, not Lulusia. Translators thought Lulusia could be just Ilisia misspelled last chapter, but since it is being used against now I suppose it is not a typo and they are two different countries.

Yes, it is all about portrayal. The "accidentally grabbing a girl's boobs" is a trope as you said in a previous post, but the way it was presented here it was completely different.
It was not about a guy accidentally grabbing a girl - who is clearly made uncomfortable by it - and then getting (shyly) turned on by it as the scene is used to show how he accidentally got lucky and we should envy him. Moda is not aroused by grabbing Belo's tits, and Belo is perfectly fine with that to the point of not even realizing what happened, the scene is used to show how completely in control she is not how she is some lucky prize.
Despite how exposed she is and sexy she looks, the scene where someone grabs her boobs is played with zero sexual connotation (actually, it seems to willingly reject it), so it is used more in a way to deconstruct the trope instead of going along.Am I seriously praising Oda for how he handled a scene involving a naked woman and her portrayal? I'm shooketh!

One Piece deserves better in my humble opinion.

Soon, we'll find out that Lindbergh is Carrot's father
-
I don't think we should read too much into this chapter. It has obviously been wrapped up because of the golden week.
Can mere civilians beat someone with a 50million bounty with a stick ? I'd argue that we definitely need more than this chapter to say so.
It's the worst introduction of characters since Sabo's comeback after all. Also, I don't get who's supposed to be the third guy at the bottom of this page
https://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/801/8
But I guess it was just a false tease by Oda. He does that when he doesn't know yet what his characters are gonna look like.I hope they have more valuable fighters because at this point they're just a little pirate crew. On the other hand, I should hold my horses, because we don't know how strong Iva isexactly, Sabo will soon get way stronger thanks to his DF. Also there is Bartholomew Kuma who is charismatic enough to be a top tier, and eventually Vegapunk.
Here fruit awakens the latent potential in people and IIRC the girl in here from ace's cover story is the daughter of navy vice admiral Comil.
So here being able to deck some dude who has a 52 million berry bounty, which as a reminder doesn't equal powerlevel, doesn't seem crazy to me
-

If this is to present that Sabo might get captured and Luffy has to save him (I know it's too obvious) or something alike… Luffy could do a lot of thing in between.

Even though I joked about Moda taking down a 52 million bounty, I don't think that scene is supposed to be read that way. Just that the power of the population united is able to take down their oppressors. I'm not Oda but I am 100% sure he didn't draw that page so us would think "Moda (or Moda empowered by the Cheer Cheer Fruit) took Pinkbeard down herself".
-
Pinkbeard was also disarmed by Karasu before Moda attacked him, and the citizens would have been shot if it weren't for Lindbergh. With all those upgrades, the pirates never stood a chance

Really people argue about femenism in a SHONEN MANGA?! If you expect a girl to lead a series read a shojou instead. Also ask any girl and they will always say that clothes doesn't define them and they can wear what ever they want and yet people here thinks just because she wore open breasted jacket that it is a trope? People really need to get out of there bubble and stop being aa snowflake..
-
Actually it's a Semeuse on French coins not a Marianne
Woe, you're totally right. I got that one wrong. The imagery is still famous enough to serve as inspiration for OP though. Hell, the personification of the Portuguese Republic is a woman inspired by Marianne as well (don't remember if she is half naked though).

Yes, I was believing Jaiminisbox suggestion, because Ilusia and Lulusia are too similar names.

Honestly, I feel you. I come on here deliberately to critique the manga. I wouldn't even be on a forum if all I had to say every week was "another great chapter!" this is art appreciation 101.

Went back to look at all the panels showing Karasu. He never changes, it looks like crows form from the coat around him. There's one panel it looks like he's 'dissolving' into crows but looking again its just a matter of perspective
[hide]https://i2.wp.com/jaiminisbox.com/reader/content/comics/one-piece-2_58650da78040f/904-0-the-entrance-of-the-revolutionary-army-commanders_5af522ab14009/14.png?quality=100&strip=all [/hide]Wait, I'm confused, how is he not dissolving into crows?
Also, man, I really hate Lindbergh's design. At first, I thought I was reacting roughly the same as the group that just doesn't care for the group - but it's really just him for me.
Seems to me neither. HE didn't transform into rock like Pika, nor is he swimming through the ground like Senor Pink. Looks more like a tunneling fruit. One does exist, as Iva mentioned it waaaaay back in Impel Down, a previous DF user used it to create lv 5.5 "a long time ago" with a tunneling df.
Wait, I'm confused, how is he not dissolving into crows?

All in all i'm not a huge fan of the fluffy way arming citizens to rise up is presented as here. Like remember back in Alabsta where Vivi got smacked for being so naive about what a horrible and crazy thing a civil war is and what it means for the people and how you better be prepared to lose both limbs and friends. Like that scene where Kohza tells his right hand man to show his scars to the kid and tells him to go home because this isn't a game. Contrast that with the way it's presented here
-
Also: UGH yall all killing me with this 50 Million bounty stuff. Bounty /= power level. How many times must this be pointed out? Dude clearly got his bounty by being evil and mean to defenseless people.
