Holy crap….
1.5 billion bounty....shoulda saw that one coming...right at the start... haha
Highest revealed bounty so far.
Makes me wonder what the Emperor's bounties are now.
Chapter 903: The Fifth Emperor

after he defeats kaido, we can assume that the press/world would consider him a yonko by then
that's a build up for it in this chapter -
It's about time Big Mom destroys Fishman Island.

@vlad:
after he defeats kaido, we can assume that the press/world would consider him a yonko by then
that's a build up for it in this chapterI don't think he'll beat Kaido. It'll be a stalemate or something of that nature.
The power balance seems strange to me right now at the point they're going to take on a yonkou.
-Zoro, Luffy, and Nami (w/ zeus) are at the point I expect them to be.
-Franky can always keep building more tech, so his growth is guranteed (especially if him and Ussop get a hold of Germa tech).
-Ussop's haki will help him w/ his sharpshooting (and if he learns CoA)
-Sanji, Chopper, Brook and Robin are the ones lacking in a confrontation w/ a yonkou. -
-Zoro, Luffy, and Nami (w/ zeus) are at the point I expect them to be.
Luffy had no chance whatsover against BM, not even the tiniest bit. He was unable to defeat one of her subcommanders alone and was downright outclassed by the other one until the author decided to have him suddenly win for shounen reasons.
Zoro as well has not faced any real challenge in the new world and we have not seen any top-tier sword fighters there yet to show how well he would do against one of yonkou-commander tier.
-
I just remember when GolD.Ace22, Melker, Razh, Watch-Man, Sereques, accesstimeco, SeaofHope, Lord Monkey D, Blissed, otakufan, Megaman and a large list of people in this forum claimed constantly that i was wrong. Raid suit finally is coming! That proves that Sanji needed an upgrade to fight stronger enemies (maybe Admiral levels?). Strawhats are a new generation of pirates more related to technologies (like us Millenials) who takes also the bests things from "old school" pirates. Thanks for the support!
Yea but you thought last chapter proved Katakuri lost on purpose, when he fell only purposely on his back and not his front for obvious reasons.
-
Will we get Zoro vs Smoothie at Elbaf? Because Zoro vs Amande sounds way cooler.
-
Luffy had no chance whatsover against BM, not even the tiniest bit.
I don't think they can beat one yet. I'm just pointing out where they're at in the story, Nami/Luffy/Zoro's power levels make sense.
Yea but you thought last chapter proved Katakuri lost on purpose, when he fell only purposely on his back and not his front for obvious reasons.
Why'd he fall on this back again?
-

I think Bobbin would stand a better chance.
-

I mean, I think we'll get neither, sadly, and if we do, it'll still be tainted with sexism like the Monet fight.
-
It's about time Big Mom destroys Fishman Island.
Neptune is saying the island should be under Luffy’s rule from now but there is not really someone to defend them against other threats. That is still something Luffy has to demonstrate but i’m not sure he is interested in such things
-
Lol Brook grew eyes XD and Sanji went super saiyan
I like what Blackbeard said, Luffy is not there yet. We will see how he fares against Kaido.
I like how he said 'Yet' implying he is expecting Luffy to get there eventually.
-
Seeing how Kaido doesn't give a damn about the bounty, it makes me think that 1.5billion is nothing for a yonkou.
Out of my arse, I'd say that their bounties are 10times bigger. But honestly, after WCI and the seeing how much Bigmom has been un-hyped, I don't know. Maybe they're not as strong as we thought they were
Also, I don't understand how they're supposed to fight a yonkou with only 4persons in the crew that can use haki
-

Kaido's opinions of others doesn't seem like a good yard stick to measure things with.
It's like Whitebeard thinking everyone is a punk or a kid even when they're y'know Shanks.

This misconception about Luffy's fight with Katakuri needs to cease. Luffy beat Katakuri fair & square. He was only "outclassed" because of Katakuri's ability to see the future (Luffy himself said this), an ability he overcame with his own improved Haki. G4 threw Katakuri around like a ragdoll. He did not "suddenly" win. He earned it through hours and hours of fighting & honing his skills.
-
Also, I don't understand how they're supposed to fight a yonkou with only 4persons in the crew that can use haki
Luffy will use his intelligence and carefully plan the whole operation.

A really cool chapter.
I hate Sanji getting a suit. Maybe they will do somethng good with it in the end but at this very moment I hate it. I don't like Sanji getting something from the family he is trying to keep away from and I don't like that it is sticking around.
I am really unsure why Sanji's bounty got such a bog bump. The assassination failed and I don't remember him being that proeminent during the attack. Brook breaking the portrait would be much more of an highlight. I guess bounties don't make sense anymore that makes me sad. On the good side Im surprise Oda let Sanji not only get that close to Zoro but surpass him even for a short period.
I am glad that Luffy got that bounty. It is ridiculous that he would be judge less dangerous than a commander when he has consistently been the biggest trouble maker for the government and is the hed of a faction. I am even happier that he finally let all the supernovas in the dust and take his rightful place has the Ace with no true rival. He's probably twice the biggest bounty(Urouge could have 750M for Snack). Althought that massive bump also highlight how his previous one was strangely low for getting rid of the biggest dealer in the world and starting alliances. Nami's eyes for that reveal are the best.
I would have hoped Croc had change his stle a bit.
Coby looks a bit more confident than last time(where he was running away in a war). I hope it is not just a facade. Important info is Helmeppo also has haki.
With Coby and Tashigi having the same ranks I wonder if they both end the manga in the same rank(both VA or Admiral) or if Coby will 1 up her(Coby Admiral, Tashigi VA). I always VA as Tashigi's perfect spot and I could see Coby being stuck there at the end of the manga waiting for spot to be vacant for admiral.
I am hype for the Reveri.
-
So morganz didn't lie, like spoilers implied, he told the full story and even said why he considers that luffy won for Readers to make their own conclusion. If you beat a yonkous strongest commanders and leave her Island just like that, then it has to be a win for luffy over BM, right?

Trying to kll a yonkou and escape alive shows yo uare super strong, maybe that is why( how many pre ts characters had 300,). But I think it's more about the vinsmoke name, prince of the evil warmongers family, and they could think he is superhuman like his bros too.

There are two Goku on the crew. Nami with the staff and cloud and Luffy with the hype tittle.

Usopp went Super Saiyan 4 (the non-blonde kind, LOL). So many great reaction shots, especially from Coby. Poor conflicted do-gooder.
Little disappointed that indeed, everyone else's escape happened off-screen and is going to have to be assumed to have gone off without a hitch unless the plot demands something bad happened later on (though the fact that all we see of Big Mom is her cursing out Morgans and Luffy does suggest that everyone else got away unscathed). Kaido blaming Luffy instead of Doflamingo or the Revolutionaries or anyone else is…interesting.
But I had wanted there to be some kind of reactions-across-the-world-montage type chapter and this gave me that so I'm happy, especially with the amount of content crammed into a short amount of space.
So Sanji didn't get his genetic powerup Gohan-style but he still has the Raid Suit to use. Maybe it'll have the effect of also unlocking his dormant potential so that even without it, he'll become stronger just having used it in a desperate situation. It's not what I wanted or expected, but hell, I'll take it. He needs something, anything, to get him back in the ballpark with the other heavy hitters for crying out loud.

My favorite panel of the chapter is the one where Rebecca tries to persuade C/Koby to stay and chat about their hero. It´s so adorable. I like them both and they would make a cute couple.
Second favorite was Brook pointing out Sanji was competing with a trolling thundercloud with a cappy who the better Nami slave was, while she nonchalantly walks away. But then again, "ZEHAHAHA" always wins, no matter what. Blackbeard is the best.
Anyway, Nami flying on Zeus is quite the powerhouse. Luffy is immune, Zoro has flying slashes, Sanji can blitz her in the air…but against the others:
- Chopper can´t touch her and gets roasted
- Usopp could snipe her but would require active CoO usage to win if she goes stealth mode with mist or clones
- Robin insta-wins but only if she sees her
- Franky isn´t immune to lightning, not sure about Shogun, and while he has more destructive weapons than Usopp at his disposal, they are no good if the target is flying on a sentient thundercloud
I´m not really sure why I was thinking about these encounters today after reading the chapter, but I really like the fact that Nami has become quite beastly among the crew and might not be considered a liability anymore.

I rather like the idea that they stop giving out raw cash for bounties after a certain point and just say "You bring one of these in, we'll set you up for life".
It's entirely possible that Yonkou-level wanted posters don't have numbers attached to them anymore, with the understanding being that if you capture one, the World Government will give you a noble title, or possibly even royal status in some newly conquered nation in need of new leadership.
Also, nothing about what just happened in Totland implies to me that Big Mom is weaker than we thought… A bit arrogant and complacent, sure, but I think she and her crew put on a nightmarish showing as the chase wore on.

eh, that fortune predicting mermaid is never wrong. Luffy will go back to Fishman Island.
But more importantly Sanji has exceeded Zoro.

That would mean the whole crew should get that and also Capone's men and Chiffon etc… Luffy have scarier origins and it barely affected his bounty. Also Robin bounty.

If you're strong enough to take one down, you're a bigger threat than they are, so I doubt there's anything pleasant in store for whoever does that. If they're offered a top Navy position as a potential way to keep them in line or keep an eye on them or at least bring their power into the fold so it can be used for good, what happens if they refuse? Someone as powerful and uncontrollable as all that (their motivation for WHY they took down a Yonkou certainly has to play a part) would be far more dangerous to deal with and would have zero trust or confidence from the Marines to just chill and not cause trouble.
It's just lucky the Yonkou keep each other in check for the most part without the Marines constantly needing to be dealing with them or they'd manage to do an even worse job than they're already doing. At least the Admirals should have no trouble keeping the Shichibukai in line, but anything less than all 3 of the top Marines against a single Yonkou and I doubt things will end well. It's no wonder nothing has radically shifted the status quo of things like this until Luffy started making waves. Can't wait to see how far things go.

The (3) suit could be a huge troll, something like tight pink G-string with little green elephants and a ball-freezing system plus a hologram of the bros telling him something warm and caring. :ninja:
On a more serious note, when did they have time to create it? I mean it´s safe to assume there was no motivation to create one before the wedding because they considered him to be less than trash.
Afterwards, they were beating up the army sent to invade their kingdom on snails, after which they went full gas to Cacao. Ok they probably did have some time there, but it´s still quite weird if you think about it.
Did a beat up Judge wake up and go: "Oh, lemme create a fitting raid suit real quick for my worthless son who I might not see again?" -

The bounties are not connected to specific feats in battles, but to the degree of danger the person poses for the World Government. Sanji was responsible for linking together the Strawhats and the Germa. The possibility he represents as a union of those two factions in the eyes of the WG is what gives him a huge bounty.
-
Coby is famous for being a wholesome, good boy, poster boy for the Marines, it's so perfect, how great is he?
And Helmeppo too, their relationship is in my top five friendships, I wonder if we'll see Axe Hand Morgan in the new world so he can get his capture.
Coby also holds fame/influence in the Marines because of his Marineford outburst which is double cool. -

I've always wondered why Sakazuki didn't fire him over that.
-
If Mangastream's translation is correct, it makes it clearer that the reason for that bounty raise is his revealed relationship to Germa. That would make more sense.
Let the next bounty raise comes from defeating a strong opponent this time.
-
I've always wondered why Sakazuki didn't fire him over that.
Sengoku probably pulled rank (with support from Garp, no doubt). By the time Sakazuki had the Fleet Admiral position locked down, Koby might have built up a strong enough reputation as a Marine to protect himself.
I don't think we know when the Rocky Port Incident took place, so it may well have been before Sakazuki and Kuzan had their duel.
-
I've always wondered why Sakazuki didn't fire him over that.
Sakazuki was going to kill him for disobeying orders, but then Sengoku retroactively made what Koby did the correct course of action. So he can't really justify retaliation over something that was approved by the previous fleet admiral.
-

That saved him from immediate retaliation, but I've little doubt that Koby's on Sakazuki's sh*tlist. He's just moved past the level where he can be fired without blowback.
Plus it seems Koby's got some impressive achievements under his belt now. Sakazuki probably can't afford to get rid of such a promising young Marine over a minor ideological spat anymore, even if he wants to.
-
We all know Shanks is getting shanked in the future and this chapter rose that death flag even higher. It's gonna be Blackbeard who does it, but pretending he takes a sick day that chapter, who do you guys want to have the honor?
!
-

Sakazuki probably had better things to worry about than pursuing a grudge with a chief petty officer. After Marineford he was chasing after Blackbeard, then when he got promoted he fought with Aokiji and had to deal with the repercussions, and after that the marines started their worldwide recruiting campaign. All the while they were moving headquarters across the redline, and putting more pressure on the new world pirates.
The marines have been busy and I can easily imagine that by the time Akainu had any free time to deal with Koby, the guy became a hero and it would have been inconvenient to fire him.
-
Just finished reading the chapter, and what an amazing chapter it was. These are my favorite types of chapters, seeing various characters throughout the world, at the same time putting into perspective how far the series has come and what it still has in store. I'm glad to finally see Shanks and Coby make appearances since the timeskip (although the latter was in Film Z). I'm really excited to see what the Reverie will have in store for us. If it wasn't already a given, this chapter certainly solidified Luffy/the Straw Hats as a major topic for the Reverie.
-
Considering how Ninji speed comment was reference again, I reckon Sanji suit will be a speed booster. A ridiculous speed and his CoO, not many people will be able to match him. It will be a tremendous power up for him.
-
This is probably the first in-between arc chapter I've not really enjoyed. The only part I really liked was finally seeing Coby and Helmeppo again.
Don't really know how to put it. Just don't like how Big Mom has came out of this looking a bit daft, and I'm assuming we're not meant to really buy into this whole fifth emperor thing. There's more I don't like but whatever. -
I've always wondered why Sakazuki didn't fire him over that.
He probably had more more important stuff to do than search for that specific marine after the war. And by next time Coby showed up on his radar he had done decent work enough to warrant a chance.
-
One Piece world building is exceptional. I cheered reading Luffy's real new bounty. It's not that I even care about bounties. It's the meaning behind it. Felt like all Luffy's pain, battles, and work is paying off. Like seeing a friend become a professional after watching them work at it for years.
Classic One Piece crew interactions. Oda knows his characters so well it's scary. Coby, excuse me, Koby being badass. Still not used to it, but I love it. Guess Sanji's Burning Yellow now. From a fighting view, I think Sanji needs this power-up, if only for variety. Looking forward to the Reverie and all the character reintroductions, princess meetings, Stelly/Wapol douchebaggery, evil anti-piracy plans, and party crashing it'll entail.

He defeated Katakuri fair and square because he was more used to taking hits. Deal with it.
If he managed to get to that point, then Cracker would've eventually be defeated as well. Figures that those hit-avoiding powerhouses would have low durability. It's something Luffy's been dealing with since Crocodile and Enel.
-
Damn, what a great chapter and a welcome surprise since I missed these spoilers. Only disappointment is that I momentarily thought from behind that Koby was Green Bull.
Same! Thought I was the only one. I was EXTRA hyped when I saw that panel. My exact thought was "OMG an underwater admiral! Green Bull is an underwater admiral!!!" Then it was just Coby :'-( lol
I appreciate the Luffy hype, but #BlackbeardWasRight. In age and strength, Luffy is too soon…

People weren't complaining when Zoro grew during his fight against Mr 1. After getting his ass handed to him and then ended one hit ko'ing him. I don't get why people are complaining about Luffy's fight here. I wish it didn't take as long and he was able to overcome his Gear 4 weakness during this specific fight. But him growing this much during a fight and it feeling real, was good enough for me. And I usually HATE most Luffy fights.

I don't have a single problem with Luffy v Katakuri, but the comparison with the Mr 1 fight doesn't really work. Although Zoro couldn't hurt Daz Bones, he could fight against him pretty well, it was only a matter of learning how to cut steel to properly win. As for Luffy, he was inferior to Katakuri during the whole fight and survived 10 hours of taking a brutal beating that looked pretty devastating for the way it was drawn, even more so considering Katakuri's stats.
-

I disagree. Zoro got all those slashes b/c he was weak and let his guard down. If they were fighting on equal footing, daz bones wouldn't have landed a hit on him. I don't think Zoro was getting owned to the degree Luffy was.
Anyway, I do think people are complaining too much about this fight that it was too sudden of a victory. Luffy's gear 4 packs a bigger punch than most anything we've seen. So getting hit several times isn't unreasonable to beating someone like Katakuri.

It makes sense to freeze bounties that have gotten too large as bounties after a certain point are predictive of a strength that dwarfs most bounty hunters. I don't believe we've been introduced to a bounty hunting group with an ounce of credibility as a threat to a pirate group, barring Zoro and the Shichibukai. Diminishing returns should also be a problem with bounties and the difficulty raising bounties past 300 million berries is representative of this fact. That being said, new bounties are always fun to see, so from a meta perspective, I can understand why Emperor bounties will continue to balloon.
-
If Mangastream's translation is correct, it makes it clearer that the reason for that bounty raise is his revealed relationship to Germa.
Yeah, I checked my raw Jump and Sanji surely considers his bounty raise is because of his Germa/Vinsmoke name. (He says, "ジェルマの悪名で上がったんだ…!!")
