I truly wonder how I would've felt about this series had i not read Watsuki's "notes" about Kenshin being a fluke.
Also? I honestly kinda really hate his art. Like when it's just sitting still….ok. But his ability to depict action and movement is absolute objective crap. If you haven't read Kenshin in awhile go back and try and tell me this isn't the case.
The fights take place in featureless "action voids" the moment people move, almost like it's fucking Earthbound, and the moves and hits are mostly just abstract spurts of flicked brush ink and other bullshit.
I always felt like the movement were very awkward. Like they were unfinished, or something.
I haven't read anything by Watsuki after Kenshin, and given the recent revelation, I definitely won't, but it could very well be the way he draws action.
