People who think arming teachers is a good idea need to be made aware that Jean Razak was, in fact, not a real person and Starship Troopers is not a documentary.

yes, let's put more guns in the schools.
Why not throw in some thinking grenades too?
-
@Monkey:
[snipped good stuff about generations]
probably a sign of how bad everything is that we're in such agreement on some things, but spot on with this. I told my parents after the CNN Town Hall that, as someone on the older edge of millennial, it's our duty to keep the Boomers from fucking things up beyond repair until they die out and we can let this next badass generation start fixing it all.
Boomers, man.
[fairness to my parents, my father at least completely agrees and my mother is getting there]
-
Gen Z is a new term to me. The first time I heard it was earlier this month in class. I always thought millennials were the current generation and referred to people who grew up around 2000, and all the old people hate being directed at millennials further obscured me to the term.
-
I think this guy is pretty spot on. There's no switch from civilian to bad ass when wielding a gun.
And that Trump thinking that because teachers love their students that it's best for them to be armed instead of guards that don't know the kids. But how is a teacher that actually gives a shit supposed to kill a kid that they probably knew and maybe did care about?
Also, and I can't believe I thought so much about this, it baffles me, really… So how would that gun be stored? Would every teacher receive one of those western gunbelts? What about ammunition? What about if a teacher leaves the pistol somewhere? What about literally everything?
-
Or, you know, make it that people on the FBI's watchlist can't buy guns. Would be a good start!

A few years ago a professor of mine said something that has always been my mindset of the generational difference; the millennial generation cut off into Gen z being able to recollect 9/11.
Then again, I fall in that weird gray area(born in '95) where I was old enough to remember 9/11 vividly, but grew up in the aftermath of it. My little brother was born in 2000 and it's amazing the difference in the way the most basic things are handled over a few years. It wasn't until I began middle school that our school district's library switched to a computer system to record who took what out. I had a flip, Cingular phone for my first cell phone(which had the amazing feature of having AIM built in). Meanwhile, my brother grew up with computers inside of his classrooms, had a smartphone(Iphone) as his first cell phone, and was given a Google Chromebook to use throughout his entire high school experience.
Just goes to show how weird it is trying to classify these things as set "generations" right now.

Dude people who grew up around 2000 are in their 20's or older by now.

Oh no no…. what will come next? The government will take away FREEDOMtm from the people? Can't have that.

Whenever in my work I make test for forms and stuff, when I realized that I could get a drivers insurance for someone that was born in the 2000, it sent a chill down my spine.

It's true, bury us as well. We're stunted failures with still too much belief in the Boomer bullshit. Yeah much of that isn't our fault, but in that regard it's a mercy kill.
As long as we get pulled into the abyss with the Boomers next to us it will be fine.Take Gen X too, because they made an art of bitching and whining in the fucking 90's lol. And that's just more and more laughable with every passing year.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I love how many hip 90's movies are about young professionals with good jobs and prospects that just for no particular reason hate everything and are just too like... cool y'know? For all this establishment bullshit?
When you belong to the generation where you get to hang out in retail with a cardboard sign that reads "FULL TIME OR SALARY JOB PLEASE?", those sort of films really make you want to punch them.
Or they should, because too many Millennials do what we do best and worship 90's stuff now.We never fucking learned to attack things goddamn it.
-
Would love to know Gen X political leanings throughout the years.
-
I hope this new movement actually puts a dent in the NRA or helps swing the next election, instead of fizzling out into a disappointing nothing like Occupy Wall Street did
You can march and chant all you want and that's effective, but sooner or later you gotta get of the streets and get into the voting booth.

Democrats released the intelligence memo that Trump blocked

Between this and Pete Hoekstra, I’m starting to fear that American liars will stop coming here.

We were spoiled by a (relatively) peaceful and prosperous decade.
I mean, hell, I miss the 90s.

Where will Idaho’s next governor stand on gay marriage, religious rights?

The Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration's request to skip the appeals court process and review a district court judge's ruling requiring the administration to resume renewals of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. In September, Trump announced that he would shut down DACA on March 5, but two federal judges ordered the administration to allow people to renew their protected status while legal challenges move forward. DACA shields some 700,000 young, undocumented immigrants from deportation.
Trump's refusal to drop his demand that Mexico pay for a border wall derailed a planned White House visit by President Enrique Peña Nieto. After a contentious phone call led to an impasse over the promised border wall, which Mexico considers offensive and has no intention of paying for.
The House Intelligence Committee released a redacted version of the Democratic memo rebutting the memo written by Devin Nunez, which claimed the FBI and Justice Department were biased against the Trump campaign and abused their power. Trump blocked the release of the latest memo two weeks ago. It was released after undergoing a review by top law enforcement officials and redactions. The White House dismissed the Democratic memo as an attempt "to undercut the president politically." Click here to read the redacted version of the Democratic memo.
4/ Trump's reelection campaign used a photo of one of the survivors from the school shooting in an email soliciting campaign donations. The photo shows 17-year-old Madeline Wilford in a hospital bed surrounded by members of her family. "Trump is taking steps toward banning gun bump stocks and strengthening background checks for gun purchasers," the email reads with a link to the campaign's donation page.

Trump claimed he would have run into the Florida high school during the shooting without a gun to stop the gunman. "I really believe I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon," Trump told a group of governors at the White House. He added: "Don't worry about the NRA. They're on our side."
Ivanka Trump thinks it's "inappropriate" to ask her about her father's sexual misconduct because she has a "right as a daughter to believe my father." In the same interview, Trump also said her father's proposal to arm teachers is "an idea that needs to be discussed." She added: "I think that having a teacher who is armed who cares deeply about her students or his students and who is capable and qualified to bear arms is not a bad idea."

Trump's personal pilot is in the running to become the next leader of the Federal Aviation Administration. John Dunkin flew Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign, and is now on the shortlist to head the FAA, which sets civil aviation policies and regulations for the entire country.
poll/ Trump's approval rating is back down to 35%, matching his lowest to date. Trump also earned his lowest approval rating among Republicans at 80%. Trump holds a 5% approval rating among Democrats and 35% among independents.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments for Janus v. AFSCME, which will kneecap public-sector unions.
Kennedy seems ready to use his Libertarian Principles to fuck over workers, so it now comes down to Thomas to find that small remaining atom of his soul or Alito to suddenly become a human being with his own opinions.

So Bernie's son Levi is running for a House district in NH.
As it turns out, he's as far removed from his dad as could possibly be…
- Defends the NRA and refers to Dana Loesch's screeds as sophisticated and in touch with the working class
- complained about the removal of the confederate flag
- has defended the Bundy clan as real working class Americans
- attacked Chelsea Clinton for building a dynasty (even though she never ran for office... and he is)
- regularly defends Trump and defends his use of the N-word as something working class families don't care about
- attacks black women for playing the identity politics card and alienating the working class
-
So the dad of the Parkland student who claimed that CNN tried to script his question admitted to altering the emails "proving" his son's claims. Tucker Carlson actually owned up to it while Sean Hannity lubbed a baby seal to death, which is his usual Tuesday routine.
Anyway, a Connecticut state seat that's been Republican since the mid-'70s flipped. It was a two point win for the Democratic challenger Phil Young but that's a twenty-eight point swing from 2016. Also in state houses, Democrats flipped a seat in New Hampshire which has an absolutely ridiculous number of state legislators. Philip Spagnuolo won by eight in a district Il Douche carried by thirteen points for a swing of twenty-one.

Manafort has decided to plead Not Guilty. Presumably putting his faith in The Donald's pardoning power.
Trial is set for Sept. 17 (before the midterms lol.)

I thought presidential pardons require an admission of guilt, or am I remembering wrong?

They do. They're also for purely federal charges. So if there are any state level charges mixed in Trump can't do squat.

What The Fuck Just Happened Today: https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2018/02/28/day-405/
ICE arrested more than 150 suspected undocumented immigrants in the Bay Area, two days after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf publicly warned of imminent ICE raids in Northern California. ICE Deputy Director Thomas Homan called Schaaf's decision "reckless" and that "864 criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large." Schaaf said she didn't regret sharing the information, calling it her "ethical obligation" and that "It is Oakland's legal right to be a sanctuary city and we have not broken any laws. We believe our community is safer when families stay together."
Trump attacked Jeff Sessions on Twitter for his "disgraceful" handling of an investigation into potential surveillance abuses. "Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc," Trump tweeted. "Isn't the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!" Yesterday, Sessions announced that the Justice Department is looking at whether the FBI properly handled FISA applications to monitor members of his transition team.

Robert Mueller's investigators have been asking witnesses about Trump's business activities in Russia prior to the 2016 campaign. Mueller's team has been asking about the timing of Trump's decision to run, any potentially compromising information the Russians may have, and why a deal for a Trump Tower in Moscow fell through.

A judge in Washington, D.C. set a September 17th trial date for Paul Manafort, putting the former Trump campaign chairman on trial at height of midterm election season.
Hope Hicks told the House Intelligence Committee that she sometimes has to lie for Trump. The White House communications director insisted, however, that she has never lied about matters related to Russian interference or possible collusion with Trump associates after an extended conversation with her lawyers.
HUD agreed to spend $165,000 on "lounge furniture" and $31,000 on a dining set for Ben Carson's office while the Trump administration proposed a $6.8 billion budget cut to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Details of the furniture purchases were revealed after a senior career official filed a whistle-blower complaint that she was demoted for refusing to break a $5,000 spending limit on improvements to Carson's office.
United Nations investigators accused North Korea of supplying Syrian with materials used in the production of chemical weapons. North Korean missile technicians have also been spotted working at known chemical weapons and missile facilities inside Syria.

Democrats flipped state legislative seats in Connecticut and New Hampshire, bringing the total number of flipped seats since Trump was elected to 39. The latest mark the fifth and sixth seats flipped in 2018.
The NRA asked Trump not to raise the age limit for buying firearms. Instead, the NRA asked Trump to pursue school safety programs, which the White House plans to unveil on Thursday.

I'm actually kinda shocked 120 was Republican for so long, though I think it's been a moderate holdout. The previous lady in the position was as such, liked, established. But she became mayor, left a void, and the Blue Wave filled er' up.
Also the area has definitely become less white in recent years, even if only slightly, so that probably contributed.(I am extremely familiar with district 120)

Fun question: whose reputation will come out of the Trump Years with the most damage? Sessions, for example, wouldn't be that high in the rankings since his previous reputation was middling because of all the, y'know, racism. Same with the Trumps and their various levels of corruption.
McMaster? Kelly? Sasse as a wild card?

This Trump/gun control meeting is so nuts that it almost makes me think the NRA asked him to throw out a bunch of screwball anti-gun things to pump up gun sales again.
Also another classic example of Trump demonstrating he knows jack shit about anything.

Yeah, it's the GOP as a whole. The younger generations hate Trump by overwhelming margins and the GOP hitching their star to him more and more as time goes by (rather than less like a sane party would) just digs a deeper hole for them.

Hahaha. My favorite comment about Hope leaving. "She lasted 4 Spicers and nearly 20 Scaramuccis. That’s not bad."

Not the person I wanted gone, but I'll take it. This is good news in a mixed, but mostly bad week.

Hope Hicks is the one that's been reading Trump's emails for the last two years. The media hasn't quite cottoned onto that yet (and have basically left all the women involved alone despite the fact there are a couple women really high up the chain on this)
But… she knows EVERYTHING.
She's also young and actually has a life ahead of her. Gotta be a prime target for Mueller.
So it's really interesting timing that she's leaving now.

Also about as likely a candidate for a presidential pardon than any non-family member of Team Trump. And I doubt she's tied up in the money laundering/state crimes departments for additional pressure.
