Early Dragon Ball weirdness. Like a dog being the king of the world. Probably the last wish before Bulma's panties.
Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly

I love it for some specific reasons. It gives the chance for Goku to have another moment to take responsibility for his actions. He's the one who ultimately went with getting Freeza back and he's the one who said they could stop him.
The problem is that with Super ending it might not deal with this at all. It might just end up with Freeza being unconscious, so somebody else takes his wish and he's just thrown back to hell afterwards. Everything about the ToP suggests the beginning of a new thing, not an ending, but Super is set to end.
It's a much more interesting ending than Goku just winning, but the limited time for it makes me wonder if they'll be able to do anything interesting in that time.
I don't think it's good writing per se but I also think with everything that's going on it would be pretty easy to forget that unconscious Frieza is just laying around the stage. Like, I feel like if I was there, I might forget.
-
I think it makes sense that he could be forgotten, that's the strongest part of the possibility (in fact as I said Freeza winning is my wish because it offers such interesting possibilities), it's just the payoff for it that I'm worried about.
Freeza's barely done anything this arc and if he were to win, I think it could potentially make for a very good miniarc, but Super's ending so unless there's a sequel hook or something and we'll know for sure the story will continue, there's the possibility it's just going to be something pretty rushed and uninteresting.
-
I kinda hope Freeza wins but stays unconscious for the rest of the arc
Goku and Jiren ring each other out and everyone just forgot about frieza not being eliminated -
Honestly, Jiren already seemed pretty unstoppable, and Toppa does too. Beating one of them is easy to swallow, but how on Earth could they beat both of them?
Has anyone ever floated the idea of Vegetto doing a Spirit Bomb? Fusion and the Spirit Bomb are the main "Hail Mary" passes of DB - maybe we need one in conjunction.
–
Also, I attained FighterZ and it's GREAT!

With Toppo in God of destruction mode, he'd just destroy it before it does anything.
I enjoyed watching frieza geting wrecked badly.
Toppo finally getting chance to shine, his power up was epic. -
I'm fine with Freeza winning by remaining on the ledge.
Should be Gohan, but whatever.
-
If someone is going to win by being a potatto sack, would you rather it be Frieza or Gohan?
-
Goku will probably object to winning like that anyway.
-
i think the potato sack victory is way more amusing with Frieza. If Gohan won, I'd want it to be through real fighting.
Frieza winning through treachery or potato-sackery is pretty great. Of the current options available to us it'd be the best…
outside of Toppo winning and the whole story of Dragonball coming to an end by the universe getting wiped out because of Goku. That resolution would make the whole saga so much better in retrospect.
-
! Frieza can't win by just sitting unnoticed because next episode spoilers say he'll use his telekinesis to hurl rocks at Toppo
-
! Saw the spoilers, too. Yeah. He's still up and in the fight next episode apparently. So maybe he won't win like that.
-
Let's go crazy, toss the potara at 17 and Frieza, if the fusion isn't a dud, now we have infinite energy frieza.
-
I would laugh if such a fusion created Mecha Frieza again.
-
i'm more terrified at the concept of freeza with hair
-
Awww, I completelly missunderstood this game, I thought it had ALL permutations, but it's just these ones. The closest is Cell + 17.

In Spain, I have the luck of having access to the Kanzenban version of Dragon Ball manga, I bought the equivalent of the "original series" on the anime, and as it was a very loyal adaptation, and I don't know how my memory back then was so good that I still remember it almost perfectly, even when I only watched it once, I've been ignoring it, but the game has me interested in finally reading the manga.
But again, these first volumes were mostly direct adaptations, but I do wonder, would we suspect Jackie Chun as Roshi if it was a current series? Meaning on the first two chapters before Yamcha becomes fixated on the idea and Jackie uses a Kame Hame Ha.
Thinking in the hypothetical "world without Dragon Ball" and how manga would turn out in that world, planting the frameworks of adventure and combat series, and the flow of action between panels for years to come is something beyond my area of expertise, like trying to think of the world without penicillin.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
First complaint against this edition, they moved all of the title pages to the end, making the change from chapter to chapter very jarring.
Sometimes they have to insert a random white page between chapters to fix the order of pages around a double spread.
This decision smells Spaniard.

Has anyone else gotten FighterZ yet? I've been wrecking house with my Frieza, Cell, and Kid Buu. Also interested in learning Nappa, Gotenks, Piccolo, Krillin and Androids 18 and 16.
-
I got it. But I can't fight so well yet. Trying to make my primary team Piccolo, Cell and Frieza. Might swap out Frieza for Beerus once I get better.
-
I focused on the story mode, got all the plot thingies now, the ones that got to the top of youtube were the best ones already. Most of the best ones involved the villains.
Now I don't know, if trying to learn the hard combos, or getting to know how to actually get into a fight with another human being.
-
I plan to get it but I'm in no hurry to spend 60$ on a fighting game that isn't Virtua Fighter, as I will probably en up jus tplaying it for a couple days then never touching it.
When it goes on sale in two months maybe.

OMG, this episode!!!
When 70% of an episode is made of your favorite character being treated like a fodder and being jobbed around AND you still love the whole thing, that's something done right.
Sure, I hate the fact you can totally tell Freeza was going to have his ass handed to him as soon as he appeared because anime tropes makes the over confident (trash) talkative character pay for that, but that aside it was great. They actually managed to make me root for Toppo, his sequences were hype. as. fuck., his fighting style is brutal, everything about him was just perfect (gotta point out though that he decided to not destroy Freeza because that would disqualify him, but less than a minute before he actually tried to do exactly that). Just wish he kept his big belly…And Freeza/17 teaming up was the kind of thing I didn't knew I needed. Curious to know what is in for Freeza at this point.

I have the game, and Team Father, Son and the Holy Namekian (SSJ Goku, Adult Gohan, Piccolo) couldn't be any better for me. So far, Trunks is on my to do list along with unlocking Android 21.
-
Can't get it right now, but plan on eventually. Story looks really fun and it looks really good, even if I'm not into fighting games.
I have seen complaints around about the localization. I figured there would be liberties, but it seems like some lines straight-up just make characters say completely different things. I figured something was up with the abridgisms and they use dubtitles so it's the old English dub stuff all over again.
-
Yeah, with my current experience of the game, I'd have waited for a price drop.
-
Is it as good as they say control/design-wise? Basically great as a game, not just a fan-pleasing thing?
-
My pc controller isn't the best, I can't get into non-smash-like fighting games with the stick, but I had well enough control with the d-pad. I'd say it's good, but I don't go that deep into fighting games now
More in deep:
! Is very alike the vs Capcom series, you only have 1 direction or hadouken (quarter circle forward/backward) motions to use techniques or specials.
You have low, medium and hard attacks, and standing, crouching and jumping variations.
The 4th face button is ki attacks.
In Psx controllers is low=[] mid =/\ hard=O and ki=X
You have your super bar that consumes to do the screen stopping attacks, like the Final Flash or bigger level of attacks. Each character has from 2 to 5, most consume one bar, some consume 3, and some others let you consume even more to improve the attack even further, like Krillin throwing more kienzans if you mash the button or Tien doing the suicidal Kikohou over and over consuming special and health. They are used with the r1 or r2 buttons, that represent either ki+Hard or low+medium.
You also have the ki+low that makes you scream and charge super bar, leaving you vulnerable for a while, but once you charge 2 bars, it goes very fast
Finally, you have mid+hard that does instant transmission behind your opponent, but it cost 1 super bar
Most energy attacks are done with the ki attack button, while most combat techniques are done with qcf motions with one of the punch attacks, and the hard variations usually have an extra effect but consume super bar charge
Characters all have 2 easy combos that are done spamming either low or mid attack, I think that regular combos have to be stronger, but haven't checked.
Characters differentiate with their specials and supers, but also have some variations on their normal attacks, like Picollo using his extending arms instead of a ki blast with the ki button, or Kid Buu being a piece of shit with his homing low kick.
Blocking is backward, you have standing and crouching guard. I don't remember if you have a jumping guard.
Just R1 is a slow guard-breaking attack that launches the opponent to the air somewhat defenseless to continue combos up there. It only works if the opponent is guarding or standing there doing nothing.
Just R2 is to fly fast at the opponent, connecting a low power attack on contact and letting you combo. It also nullifies any low priority ki blasts thrown.
While kind of hard to do, you can nullify enemy supers with your own, like throwing a super kame hame ha to cancel a big bang attack coming your way. Equal priority cancels each other, higher priority continues and hits you, like trying to counter a Super kame hame ha with a regular one.
The L1 and L2 are for your other characters they can:
Hold the button or the button forward to swap, they show up like if you were using the "fly at the enemy" r2 action
Tap the button to do an assist attack, that go from "give me a senzu" from Krillin, to Gohan's shoryuken lite, to 18's barrier, or just a Kame hame ha.
Tap the button while doing a lvl1 super to swap to that character in order for them to do their lvl1 super. I think that you can chain some lvl3s but I didn't get it.
The fanservice attacks seem to be triggered either with a big super or a hard attack to finish an opponent. -
Neat. The reviews are glowing in general. Licensed games typically control like butt, so having something functional is nice. Gonna get it basically just for the story mode anyway, at least doesn't seem like a chore to play.

Character breakdown:
! The normal characters are the super saiyans, frieza and cell, balanced with each one having a particular niche that they excel.
Goku, vegeta both yellow and blue, gohan both teen and twenty something, future trunks, gotenks, goku black are the more middle of the road characters, but solid picks all around.
Cell has his freakishly long limbs to be a pain
Frieza has a big number of specials to keep track of, including one while he's defenseless on the floor
! The humans have more tricky gameplay:
Krillin has the ability to heal, and weird path ki blasts that mix up the opponents
Tien has the strong kikohou for damage and chaotzu to disrupt the opponent
Yamcha has strong combo options on the floor, that helps him build energy up faster than the rest
! Picollo is the middle of the road between humans and saiyans with a strong set but with a gimmick, being his stretchy arms to get a foe "over here"
! The buus and beerus have unorthodox attack patterns from weird directions as their gimmick.
! 18 has the barrier to charge ki from the enemy's attack and 17 to help her, to keep attacking if she gets interrupted or the other way around
Ginyu is super weird taking the 18+17 mechanic to the extreme as the whole team is with him as his x specials, and each one is pretty unique, plus the death or glory body change
! Nappa and 16 feel like the grapplers of the game, having most of the grab attacks themselves.
! Hit has a weird stance system, that he takes a position and he counters from it.
! Finally, 21 somehow combining all other characters, with strong varied specials, buu's long distance physical attacks, and a set of grab specials that allow her to Copy an special from an opponent depending on some rules:
Earthlings, goku and family, and goku black give blue techniques, the kamehameha and solar flare
Saiyans, meaning vegeta family, taking gotenks and uncle nappa have yellow techniques, like ki bomb and barrages (or was it the kick?)
Androids (16,18,21 and cell) give green energy, for the barrier and something else I don't remember
And the rest of the aliens, gods and pink blobs of evil give purple energy, that includes a big and slow homing ki blasts and a teleport -
DB Super is the Phantom Menace of db. People desperately trying to make themselves believe it's good, cause it is the first actual db series in decades, despite being mostly rubbish like episode 1.

It's acceptable, I found GT to be trash at a time when I was desperate for more DB so it's definitely not due to that.

Maybe they just like it.

Or maybe people who liked DBZ just fine still like DB super.
It's possible to have that feeling you know.
-
Super was pretty universally panned when it first debuted with the movie adaptations and then the Champa arc started winning people over. I don't think anyone's putting it on the same level as what came before (although it's a big improvement over GT) but it's perfectly serviceable, enjoyable fluff.
The baseball episode alone justifies its entire existence and then some.
-
If anything GT is the Phantom Menace and everything since Yo Son Goku and His Friends Return, Battle of the Gods, Resurecction F, and Super has been Force Awakens, etc…
Honestly Super has been disappointing but it's still much better than GT and offers up something legitimately cool or funny for every 5 non cool or funny things it serves up. Even if the power scaling is bonkers, I love that it made way more of an attempt to reinvigorate the cast in comparison to GT and even late Z. I mean, Roshi? Frieza? Krillin? Androids? Buu?
-
I still prefer Super to GT.
-
Okay, so let's compare Super and GT:
-
Vegeta having a dumb mustache is great.
-
Super's totally good shounen fun.
Doesn't take itself too seriously, knows what it is and has good characters. There's tons of better stuff out there, but there's also tons of much worse stuff out there.
In comparison, I think OP and MHA have much better plotting and characterization so I'd put it below them, but I'd put it above Bleach, Naruto and Fairy Tail because I think those have shitty plotting and characterization.
GT goes in the Naruto pile. No good plotting or good characters.
I'll be sad when it's gone. It's my weekly long-runner these days. That slot's gonna be empty when it's gone.
-
I consider #17 in Super to be a Bleach-tier character, which is probably why everyone thinks he's ~cool~
-
18 was always cooler so shrug
-
The ideas in gt were better as in super. The execution was subpar. Baby alone was a more developed villain and had better backstory than most db villains ever had. And obviously ssj4 was more creative than rainbow hair. The evil dragons was a good idea, but rushed in the end cause show had to wrap up.
-

#18 is the coolest character in the series and should be the one to get more screentime.

Do you know what "developed" means? He's a pretty standard "I want revenge!!!" villain and doesn't change from his first appearance to his last. Zamasu was easily a better villain even if he was stuck in a silly plot.
-
Even if it was through a rather lulzy hand wave I don't mind getting another character who's not a Saiyan or Frieza up to god-tier strength. I also find it amusing that while everyone else on the team is wearing martial arts or exercise gear 17's trading blows with the multiverse's strongest in just a T-shirt and blue jeans.
-
I'm very much a fan of "your biggest enemy is yourself" type of stuff so I dig the "is Goku the real bad guy here?" stuff Super's doing automatically better than anything in GT.
Ultra Instinct is so interesting to me because it's Goku running on instinct and not entirely in control of himself. I just really like that type of stuff, which I think GT tried with SSJ4, but you never really saw last?
I like 17 because he's genre savvy and in general smart, he's a fun kind of chill. A character doesn't need speech quirks or a over-the-top personality to be good. It's why I like Hit, too.
They have to have enough dimension to them to work. Jiren and Perfect Cell are examples that are legitimately dull to me.
-

SSJ4 is proof that less is more. It aged poorly, and the lore behind it won't ever change how bad it looks to me.
-
I still like GT more. Better animation, fresher ideas, less ridiculous power-level inconsistencies, cooler looking transformations, more iconic battles, and the first Arc is Star Wars x Dragonball.
I don't care that DBS is more faithful. I had more genuine fun with GT. If DBS feels like reliving old dragonball force awakens style, GT is more of a Last Jedi type ordeal. Sure, they mess with the characters a little (at times a lot Goten), but the ideas are far fresher.
And just like I enjoyed TLJ more than TFS, I enjoyed DBGT more than DBS. But that's like, totally my opinion dude… (Also yes Super Android 17 Saga deserves all the hate.)
-
I never got the TLJ hate, so I like both that Super lol
