If you don't stop personally insulting me I'm going to ignore you. I'm saying it's why it REMINDS me so much of it. You don't have to see it, and Super Saiyan is basically just an amping up of their ki in any case so it's not like it's completely separate, it's the enhancement aspect that is reminiscent. A few select instances bring up those memories and since Oda is such a huge fan of Toriyama, I can't say I'm exactly surprised this is how he decided to present things.

And Bleach is garbage. I don't much care for comparisons to it.

Not that I don't get why people want to see bounties and bounty hunters become more relevant, but it's easy to forget that Baroque Works was an organization made up of anonymous bounty hunter agents and that Zoro was formerly a bounty hunter himself. Of course, we could have at least seen them actually do some bounty hunting instead of only talking about it.

If that' the case then it's not pointless at all. For example: General, who go no power himself, leading uge army is bigger of a threat then, for example, Mihawk, who acts mostly alone.

Lol, bounties work just like they do in real life. The bounty for the leader of ISIS is 25 million, and who's going to claim that? The biggest Mexican cartel leader was also 20+ million. No one claimed.

There is a reason why the bounties are so high. It's because the chances of them being claimed are almost non-existent.

I often fantasize about a world where we could have a really quality One Piece fighting game. I had a cool idea for how one could accurately represent Big Mom's "Soul or Treat" as a powerful special or finisher. it would be a move that Big Mom could only hit you with if she activated her move while the opponent is backing up, representing their "fear." I can't think of a single fighting game that has a move that punishes the opponent for retreating. If it was a tag-team fighting game, you could even tweak the idea to punish foes for tagging out instead.

Great chapter, btw. Big Mom has been like a cool video game boss, with multiple stages, ever since the end of the wedding.

And which One Piece fighters have been grounded?! lol. Once you posted originally about the fighting game idea, I immediately thought of Dragonball FighterZ as well. Swap out the characters and the movesets and it'd be perfectly doable (maybe use the MvC 3 style if you want to distinguish it).

Bounty is an accountable threat calculated by whoever in the marines (strawberry, possibly others) and/or any input from the WG.
Blackbeard had zero because he was a nobody with no renown or name on wb's ship. All he did was turn in Ace, there's no proof blackbeard destroyed that town he and ace clashed at as far as the marines go.
Bounty can be perceived threat but there's no way to account for that until it's part of their modus operandi

--Threatening but not killing people (seriously, she started off indiscriminately killing her children, then she can suddenly NOT kill Perospero)
--Commanding her homies
--Using her Devil Fruit to create NEW homies (candy slug)
--Using named techniques/Knowing what the hell technique she wants to use
--STRATERGIZING!!! ("But if I slice the whole ship horizontally...")
--Recognizing individual people and her relationship to them (talking to Jinbei, Chopper, Perospero, Zeus, Prometheus, and Napoleon)
--Making smug comebacks ("Why don't you teach me how to stop, Ho!")
--Asking how would a giant cake fit on this tiny ship in the first place

Things Big Mom, in her mindless rampage mode, is NOT capable of:

There probably isn't a single level of crazy she actually is. I'd say its kind of like the Hulk. We know even during his nuttiest Hulk outs he can still talk, listen and formulate ideas, plans and strategies, they are just kind of limited to that of a 4 year old.

When her cravings first act up there could be a huge wash of sensations that overtake her, now though she has been starving to the point that in a single day it has physically altered her outer appearance. Who knows what that could be doing to her mind. Her brain could very well be adjusting just enough to process things around her better. Perospero certainly didn't think she'd remember his little lie. Don't forget a huge part of this particular hunger mode is unprecedented for all the Big Mom Pirates and most likely Big Mom herself. There is no history to compare her current state to.

I think the thing with Linlin is she is a hungry person taken to the extreme. Everyone knows someone who becames easily irritated when they are hungry, start lashing out at everyone and everything and can't be really reasoned with. With BM I think it's just that, it's not that she loses her ability to rationalize, it's just that she is too damn hungry and pissed to actually think straight and give a fuck about anyone or anything except eating what she wants. Remember she is not the most sane and emotionally stable person, she has very little emotional intelligence to handle the frustration that comes from not getting what she wants.
This would also mean that at some points she would be less able to listen to others while at other moments she would be willing to think straight, in a fluctuating state of mind, like RomanceDawn suggested.

Also as far as we know, the entire incident with the cake simultaneously happening with the destruction of the picture of Mother Caramel, was the first time she was ever so conflicted about which thing to get the most pissed about it actually put her on a delay, so this entire thing started out seemingly unusual for her (but the wedding cake clearly won out over the indignation of Mother Caramel's symbolic destruction). I wonder what would happen if someone created a large-scale duplicate of the photo and burned it in front of her? Would that put her in yet another state of confusion and stop her briefly? Surely Nami's capable of generating a fairly large illusion, as well as Brook's hypnotic ability. Or the evidently artistic Carrot might be able to sketch one. Of course, if it was a very ugly mocking caricature, that might do just as well, LOL.

I like your Hulk comparison, but Big Mom is having some pretty complex thoughts right now ("Let me first call Zeus and Prometheus, then command Napoleon into Blade Form, then time this leap in order to land on Zeus wants he gets here, then use that to jump over to the ship"). Like, she's straight up REASONING with Jinbei ("If you want me to get off the ship, then give me the cake", or "My son told me the cake was here, if it's not I'll have to kill him, so when you say the cake isn't here, you're insinuating that he's a liar, and that angers me!") when compared to someone like Hulk ("I'm gonna wreck it!").

Not really. Think about her at first throwing a fit and screaming and kicking and demanding but still not getting what she wanted. That would progress into something like a more controlled and focused cold anger. BM at first looked like a child throwing a tantrum, now it seems she got to a point where she is genuinely infuriated and tired of everybody getting in her way.

Assuming Nami's group will keep annoying her for the next chapter(s) by managing to hold her back and maybe even taking Prometheus and Napoleon from her, I suppose she will end up reaching her breaking point when she will truly lose her shit - that could be the point when Sanji finally arrives with the cake.

that's the issue though; her body refuses to accept anything other than the cake. Even if she ate a thousand gourmet meals right now her body will not stop decaying unless she gets the cake (and eats it too!)

This is an interesting point you've brought up. So far, in her fits of hunger she has killed some of her children but was never aware of it. Big Mom might be a bully….but it seems like she actually holds her family somewhat dear!! It's pretty in-line with her child self too. She tried to remove a child's horns/gills (can't remember the exact non-human feature) to make them similar to herself which is somewhat an act of bullying because she wants to change that child's looks (because it's ugly/weird in her mind) yet she has zero desire to actually kill the child.

What's to say that adult Linlin isn't like that too? She bullies her children's looks because it's ugly but she doesn't wish to outright kill any of them. The only reason she'd want you dead is if you break a deal/promise. Persopero would be lying here and thus she has to kill him but she doesn't want to really kill him. Lola broke the marriage (deal) and thus is on the kill-list.

Edit: as for her 'awareness' levels then I'd say that at first she's overcome with extreme want for a specific food thus making her rage with close to zero awareness but as time goes on her body eats at itself while slowly giving her back her awareness. Think of a spoiled child; first they'll start screaming and kicking if they don't get what they want but as time goes on the child gets exhausted from all the crying and screaming and they start to calm down and actually start to reason a bit.

Yep. Definitely lazy, sloppy writing. Big Mom was presented as an uncontrollable monster once in that state, an enemy to both friend and foe. Now, she's taking orders from Perospero.

I feel like Oda is just spitballing at this point. He has a general idea of where he wants to go, but it's not well planned out, and is riddled with inconsistencies.

Yep. We've gotten no official explanation of how Big Mom's disorder works, just what the Big Mom Pirates know about it. They even stated last chapter that they'd dealt with all the previous rampages quickly and they had no idea what Big Mom would do after this long

I definitely didn't read that as touching, rather a sign of how ruthless she is. Even though she didn't lost her mind, even though she is mostly in control of her actions, she is still stating that she is going to kill her oldest son if he gave her a false information.
It is not the possibility of killing him because she is acting like a rabid animal, but she knowingly, consciously, choosing to kill her son simply because he lied to her regardless of whatever reason he had.

I always questioned how conscious Big Mom is in that state. What we have now is more like what I had imagined. Spearheaded type, but you can still talk to her, it's just that she might either kill you or listen to you. It all depends on what they say to her.

I wouldn't say carelessly.
It was shown on multiple occasions that her children do care for each other and the inhabitants of totland. Also they care for mama's reputation. So it is of utmost importance to get rid of the strawhats. And if it wasn't for convenience and plot armor, linlin would have destroyed the strawhats by now.

When he lied to her he didn't know the consequences, she laid out the consequences after he made his statement. He has seen her at her worst, sure, but they've usually dealt with these moments swiftly because they have everything at their disposal in WCI to satisfy her but it's never gone on for this long. So now they're seeing for the first time to what extent her mental state can go if left unsatisfied, kids or no kids they've clearly not seen this scenario before so their reactions seem fine to me.

I'm strongly of the opinion the best way to do a One Piece fighter would be as a Super Smash Bros clone. And not just because it's the only thing even close to a fighting game I actually enjoy playing.

It was shown on multiple occasions that her children do care for each other and the inhabitants of totland. Also they care for mama's reputation. So it is of utmost importance to get rid of the strawhats. And if it wasn't for convenience and plot armor, linlin would have destroyed the strawhats by now.

Her last rage, where Jimbei had to calm her down with those cream puffs, had her attack one of her own kids and drain his lifeforce (not sure if it was fatal, but still) so she clearly has no qualms about preying on her own young when she's like this. I agree this is an unusual case even for her, but they have to know their own lives are always subject to termination at her whim. Especially in an uncharted situation like this, even more extreme caution ought to be exercised. Also taking it completely upon himself to 'solve' the problem wasn't so hot an idea. Don't they know what happens to the bearers of bad news in old stories? I'd rather have had a subordinate do it, or at least make myself part of a group who could convince her. In this state of hers, an argument ad populum would probably be more appealing and make her less inclined to think it was a lie.

Also there's a touching moment in all that madness when she refuses to not want to believe that her first son would never lie to her

I thought that was really touching too (albeit in a twisted way, given that she still mentioned killing Peros if he was lying), and she even yells at Jinbei not to call her son a liar before knocking him into the sea.
