@BattleFranky69:
How could he have introduced them if there wasn't a full moon? Having had one on Zou, they'd need an entire month for the next one to appear in order for Carrot to do her thing here. It just wouldn't work out. And I don't know why anyone would suggest Chopper needs to learn both his own adapted versions of Electro and Sulong right here and now, I certainly never did, but am extraordinarily confident it will happen down the line. Maybe not even as soon as Wano, in fact. But those both sure as hell will come in handy during his showdown with Doc Q, even if that's the first time we see him show off either of them (and I'd be fine with that, too).
My point was, if Oda planned Chopper to have Sulong he would have set the plan in motion while Chopper was on Zou, would have made it NOT be cloudy that night and been the one to use it instead of Carrot. There's always the chance I'm wrong and there's some special reason he needs to have seen it now, to remake his RB and debut it in Wano a year or more later. But considering he's made it clear he's simply proud of Carrot, I don't think that's the case.
Oh, come on, be reasonable. Jimbei is the biggest and baddest of all of them, and that's why it's him and no other mermaid or fishman. The only thing anyone else has going over him is that, presumably, only merpeople, not fishpeople, can use that awesome Ultramarine (underwater Kamehameha) attack that Neptune did, but if it's not exclusive to just merfolk, then I bet Jimbei learned that one too. We've seen so little of fishman karate, and now that he's officially on the crew, we'll see what separates him from the rest besides his superior strength.
Reasonable? You're talking to someone who lived through the whole thing arguing in favor of Jinbe week after week. You think I and plenty others, including Robby, didn't use these exact points at the time, all the time? When you've been dealing with masses going gaga for Shirahoshi or who cling to Hachi having a shot, or who simply think he'll just die, you can see why I'm not taking his imminent joining for granted. And I'm reasonably pointing out that from my perspective, history is repeating itself; the more Carrot is getting to do, the more adamantly people still seem to deny her having even the slightest chance of joining.
Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that since it's likely anything Chopper does to emulate those techniques is going to revolve around his Rumble Ball formula, he's going to need way more time to tinker around and get it to work and will likely progress in stages, not all at once, and not without side effects. Zoro, on the other hand, is an extremely quick study and probably already knows how to cut fire even if we haven't seen him practice. And he's used fire twice, once against Mr. 3's team and when he burned Ryuuma up to free Brook's shadow. So it would be fitting that for a 3-sword user, the third time using fire would involve cutting it instead of wielding it, showing true mastery.
The wink ;) meant that I actually do think he'll get to use fire, and I was simply pointing out that while 3-4 people have used fire on the crew with no issue, the thought of more than one person using electricity is what gets people riled up.
Chopper gets starry-eyed about things even more often than Luffy, so even if he doesn't say it out loud, he can always be interested in something he comes across, and maybe what he's feeling is a lack of hope that he can learn it even if it's his desire, but a word of encouragement from the right person can spur him on to at least give it a try.
I believe he's about as interested in learning Sulong or Electro as he is in learning to use Santoryu.
Many people who didn't join played a similar role as she. Kinemon and Kanjurou come readily to mind. Trying to say she's different isn't going to fly here.
Kinemon is one thing, but the minute he said he had a kid to take care of took all the wind out of that theory. You can say goodbye to brothers and sisters, but no way he's bringing a kid on a long-term pirate quest for kicks. Kanjurou never had a prayer. Law, Barto, all of them have their own crews to lead. Carrot has no such obligations.
She's not joining, period, and her look has nothing to do with it. I don't dislike anything about her inherently, she's just not Straw Hat material, and her design is probably the least relevant reason for that.
Well, you sure shut me up with logic like that! XD
Until we hear the word 'nakama' apply to her, I'd say that's the only term we should be on the lookout for.
I'll be a lot happier when I hear it, that's for sure.
Well, she's a girl, I'd say Brook's got some pretty strong motivation to pay extra attention to her. LOL.
The fact that she was smart, powerful and all-around awesome was all he had on his mind. She's just 15-16, so I should hope that's all.
That's only for Monster Point (and I thought it was 3 minutes?) and it's not unavailable to him four roughly 3-4 weeks at a time like Sulong. If he's going to adapt his Rumble Balls to enable a Sulong Point (Kirin Point, I hope he calls it and resembles) there's no reason it can't surpass the limits of Carrot's Sulong form or, in the process of creating it, extend his Monster Point's longevity and control. Carrot doesn't exactly have the kind of opportunities Chopper does to practice on this stuff because she only has one chance a month to assume Sulong form, while Chopper can munch down Rumble Balls all the live long day to see if he's improved or worsened the formula (not to mention Carrot isn't uniquely able to go Sulong since the other Minks can too, but Chopper alone would have his special version of it with its own unique characteristics). This is where his science background comes in extremely handy. Carrot's kind of a one-trick pony here. Brook kind of is too, but at least he's got age and experience to go along with his artistic bent. Childish, naive Carrot is basically Chopper back when they first met him, but he's still got that worldly curiosity himself so her personality and motivations aren't even unique among just the 10 Straw Hats.
She doesn't need to be in Sulong to improve her stamina, which is what counts while using it. When not using it, we've already seen she's quick to come up with good ideas and take enemies by surprise. Minks are strong by nature, and if Carrot does join, she's got time to grow into a stronger fighter and person. I can't speak for her depth because she hasn't shown her deepest thoughts yet, but I know there's something there waiting to be shared.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Robby:
Battlefranky's post above me already covers everything so I'm not goingto respond to all that again Shift. But…
No prob. We're all busy these days.
learning new moves is a long game. There's zero reason any of them have to be inspired by a move and then use it instantly. Usopp for instance didn't see dials on Skypiea and start using them within the same chapter. Wiper and the other natives got to showcase the moves first and show what the dials could do, they had to get to Water 7 firstbefore Usopp used them and that took two years. (But Nami used some for moving around a jet scooter almost immediately while still on Skypeia.)
And then even after Usopp showed off in his battle against Luffy, he had more surprises still as Sogeking right before the big battle a year and a half later (within the same arc still) when he pulled out the firebird and such, and then even more other new applications on Thriller Bark, almost 5-6 years after dials had been introduced. (And then we had a timeskip and he basically stopped using them…)
There is zero timetable on being inspired and learning new moves, especially when the series has a long way to go.
Yes, some moves are alluded to and some pop up all of a sudden. My point still stands that Chopper is not learning Sulong or Electro because if he was, it would have been on Zou and not here. Cut out the middleman, as it were.
Man, Bartomoleo sure did help out. He had a unique and memorable introduction, got his own fight during Dresserossa, and he's so obsessed with the strawhats its like he's been there all along, and his dream is to be a part of their adventure! The first letter of his name is distinct from anyone else in the crew! I think he had more screentime than any secondary character in that arc! And he got complimented by the whole crew! Luffy entrusted him with several important tasks! His power is super unique but not OP, his design is incredibly unusual (Yes the green hair overaps with Zoro a little but its a different shade and completely different style) , and he was even there for that special moment when Luffy reunited with Sabo, no one else gets to do that important personal moment! He partnered extensively with Robin and he just got SO much screentime during the arc and…
As I said to BattleFranky, he was established with his own crew and was still actively in charge of it. Whatever his attributes, joining was never on the table.
etc. etc. Carrot is not the first long form sidekick to do stuff and be memorable.
But she's the first one in a long time to be the sole companion of the Straw Hats, not have obligations holding her back, and be demonstrably kick-butt in a major, game-changing way.
See also Wiper, Paulie, Hancock, and oh yes, Vivi.
There were even arguments for Perona because "She spent two solid years with Zoro so they have to be close now!" even though she showed zero Strawhat characteristics. But she did have two different fairly distinct designs and a unique face and hair color at least.
Wiper was out to mangle the crew nearly every step of the way, no way he was going to be crew-worthy chums with them. Paulie I'll grant you, he was a red herring for quite a while, but Franky outshone him in that same arc and had his redemption before they even left for Enies Lobby. Hancock, again, had obligations established at the start and kept them after the war, unlike Jinbe who, as you know, was making his presence known at that time. Perona was a thoroughly unlikable character who lost to Usopp. 'Nuff said.
And then we get to Vivi. You remember what she herself pointed out after facing Crocodile in Rainbase? How she couldn't handle any of the gators? I'm not knocking that against her, I'm saying Oda knew ahead of time, before the series started as seen in the DB Green sketches, that Vivi was never meant for the crew at all. Not able to keep up, never had a decent fight, obligations as the princess. I wasn't reading weekly at that time, but reading it through again, the signs against her were there.
Carrot is off to a better start at being a functioning member of the crew. She's shown off her cleverness against Brulee and by ripping out the ship wheels. She can handle enemies even without her Sulong form, and with it she's outstanding. And like it or not, she's been doing most of the looking out up to now. No one's expecting her to be supergirl all the time, but she's on par with Brook and Chopper at the worst of times and in some ways surpasses them with Sulong. The crew obviously adores her, Luffy called out to her by name alongside his crew, and she's an actual asset in battle.
If Luffy or Carrot doesn't at least pop the question at the end of all this, I'll swear off crewmate predictions forever. I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong, and when I am about Carrot, you'll hear it direct from me.
There isn't. And if Oda hadn't done that SBS I'd never make a point of it. But within the dynamic Oda has officially established that's the role that's missing still, rather than "sixth brother" or "second sister." I'm not rooting for a granny for no reason, but if we see an older woman with a 4-6 unique design traits on Wano, I'm keeping an eye out.
If Carrot hasn't joined as the second daughter by then, I'll take your word for it.
