Definitely a lot of unanswered questions about Daifuku's power. Like, how much of a will of its own does it the genie have? And if it's a genie, shouldn't it be able to grant wishes or have some sort of magics or powers other than flight? It does seem like it should do more than it has.
Chapter 889: An Unknown Mama
-
-
For plot reasons I can't blame Daifuku and Oven for failing to take down their targets, and yeah it was kind of stupid for Oven to try to sink Bege's ship that had both the Cake and Pudding on it and for Daifuku to accidentally attack his own fleet but character wise it shows that when these two along with Katakuri get very angry they can't think rationally which is similar to how Big Mom can't think rationally as well when she goes on her anger induced food rampages. Seeing a bit more from their powers shows that these two are no jokes and are powerhouses, Oven himself has insane durability and used his df ability to almost sink Bege's ship and Daifuku's genie was able to cut down half of the fleet causing some of the ships to sink and that was only little from what we have seen from their df abilities who knows what else they can do.
-
The chaotic feeling of this chapter was great. Carrot out of commission, Daifuku with no regard for anything, Firetank Pirates threatening Sanji after Bege collapses, and Zeus ruining an otherwise amazing panel
Perospero and the other children being confused about whether or not to let the Cake pass into Big MOm's mouth. Lovely. Oda setting up all sorts of messy shenanigans for later.
The part with Sanji and Bege was good, and Bege saying that "even if we succeed they won't let us leave alive" tells me that Oda is aware of that complaint about the Cake plotline and has knows what he's going. And Unknown Mom is cool as hell.
I enjoyed seeing some resistance to the plan from both sides though it's likely not going to prevent it from happening. Bege's acknowledgment that the cake isn't going to be some peace treaty was especially satisfying. I'd like to see an escape from still hostile BM Pirates (Smoothie and Perospero?) instead of them letting everyone go scot-free.
-
Good chapter, I really liked Mama's attack mode. :)
Carrot did her part and I am glad this Sulong form has a major flaw.
And new cover story, this time Leo's part. -
And what makes you think Katakuri is not a clown? He's so full of himself and was shocked when his jelly bean get dodged by a cook, struggled for hours to kill one pirate despite his claims and the billion beli undefeated pirate that thought a pile of Moochi is enough to defeat a 500M beli pirate.
They are clowns because they underestimate their enemy.
Blame two characters for being clowns and incompetent but not another character who can also be as much of a clown and incompetent as them shows you how some people are complete hypocrites, also as for them being clowns for underestimating their enemies this can be pretty much said with almost any enemies that encounter the SHs.
-
Those last couple pages with BM, damn oda just so good BM looks soooooooooo fking cool
-
Great chapter, so glad to see Big Mom becoming the Yonkou we all expected her to be. Good on you Oda.
-
I believe Daifuku's devil fruit is a Mythical Zoan, not a Paramecia.
Unknown Mom/True Big Mom looks amazing. You know for a fact Kaido's rocking his base form right now.
-

Some people are praising Big Mom for being a badass and all in this latest chapter, but in the next chapter if something happens to her due to plot they will go back to bashing her again.

Daifuku's devil fruit is a Paramecia if it was a Mythical Zoan then Daifuku himself would turn into the genie.

More importantly; does he summon the genie every time he tries to rub one out?
But definitely seems out of place as far as paramecia go.
Off note, "summon the genie" will sound funny to me from now on.
-
Oh joy a cover story with the worst characters in One Piece, hope it ends quick.
-
Weird to see people praising big mom when she has done absolutely NOTHING this chapter. sheesh. some fans get so blown away by a panel or two and overhype everything.
Big moms feats this chapter: jumping.
Same thing with the overhype for Carrot last chapter. She transforms and ppl think she can take Marco 1v1 in a fight (no joke saw this argument and wanted to vomit).
Carrot did nothing last chapter but ko some fodder and break a helm. She did hardly aything this chap. She is a Monster Chopper 2.0 at best but idk who lasts longer. 5 min chopper or random time carrot. Honestly Chopper and Carrot could be around same strength level.
That said, BM being on the ship doesnt give the SHs many options. Maybe submarine? Jimbei can carry Nami and Chopper. Brooke can carry out-of-commission Carrot if they have to swim. No miraculous mirror world saves since mirrors are smashed.
Over all really like the chap. Mostly excited to see Sanji whoop somebodys ass tho. Daifuku maybe?
-
I think Big Mom is going to absolutely wreck the Sunny unless that cake shows up in the very first panel of next chapter…
-
something bothers me about the Sanji not poisoning the cake thing too. I mean, i like that Sanji doesnt do that but theres an SBS wher oda makes it sound like Sanji poisoned Zoro's food.
SBS volume 67
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_67D: Hello Oda Sensei. In chapter 655 of volume 66 in the scene where everyone is eating deep sea fish bento boxes, Robin says "Delicious," Luffy and Usopp are going "munch munch," but only Zoro is going "crunch crunch." Did Sanji put razor-blades in Zoro's bento, as promised? Penname- Gillette
O: hnnnnn…. AMAZING!! Thank you for reading so carefully! I mean, I drew that while thinking that it wouldn't really be that bad if nobody ever noticed, but in chapter 653 of volume 66, we have this scene. There's usually no reason to use a crunchy sound effect when characters are eating bento, but I felt that Sanji would surely put the razors and poison in Zoro's bento, so I decided to draw it in that way. The serious nature of their fight is what makes it interesting. I like to just ignore that SBS and imagine Sanji would never do that ha like this chapter shows -

-
Ehhh….how can razorblades and poison in someones food be a gag that would NOT leave a person disabled?? Can you please test that out and report back?? (JK PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT BECAUSE YOU WILL DIE)
even as a gag extremely out of character and carelessly dangerous. What if Robin swan had accidentally gotten Zoro's bento mixed up?
-
Because adding too much pepper or salt wouldn't be hardcore enough?
-
Carrot being called a little sister, it's like we're going to have a little sister role in the crew :p also Nami also used the binoculars to observe this transformation is she going to now learn sulong and electro from Carrot too? Taking out a fleet almost singlehandedly is pretty amazing. Big Mom… Sanji and Bege shenanigans is gold.
-
hi everyone, I've been watching your discussion for a while and decided to join…
I don't think daifuku was incompetent this chapter, he didn't have a choice, the fleet was useless and can't attack the SHs thanks to carrot, him attacking her without holding back is better than just watching her destroy all the helms..
while I liked sanji speech, but didn't he say he won't cook for the likes of BM at the beginning of the arc?
I know he's forced to do it now, but still it contradict "I'll feed who want to eat" speech in this chapter..sorry for my bad English...
-
Interesting. My favorite part of the chapter is seeing Sanji and Bege arguing, and both of their smokes fall out of their mouth for a sec. Also interesting to see Big Mom all skinny, I do hope that she finds no cake on the ship and kills Perospero. I hope to see Luffy v Katakuri soon. Nice chapter.

Is Zoro disabled after eating that bento ? If the answer is no then it's what we call a gag i would say
-
I will give credit to Carrot for disabling Daifuku's fleet but the way some people were overhyping Carrot and saying she was going to defeat Daifuku or even fight against Smoothie was ridiculous, imo she would have lost against Daifuku if they truly fought especially since she was already starting to lose stamina. We also don't know what else Daifuku can do with this df ability, also Smoothie appears in one panel from the last chapter and then disappears again in the next chapter lol.
-
I think Oda called out that SBS in this chapter by purpose.
-
is it safe to say that BM while riding Zeus is top 3 fastest characters in the serie?
-
Enel, Kizaru and Urouge are faster than her.
-
Big Mom looks SO DAMN COOL at the end. Like, damn.
-
Enel, Kizaru and Urouge are faster than her.
See what you did there, nice.
Well, now it's either Sun Pirates or Germa who come in. But unless someone manages to bait BM off Sunny… Of course there's a chance Sunny will be abandoned for a while, but that wouldn't seem right.
-
To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if Carrot could defeat Daifuku. She managed to swifly evade every single one his attacks without any effort while focusing on a different task while he was totally focusing on that. That little chuckle she gave after Daifuku's first attack was the very image of scorn.
And, honestly? I don't see what is the problem in that. Where did this "Veteran" bs came from? It suddenly appeared and took root in the fandom as if it was some kind of legitimate rank in the BMP.
We know the Sweet Commanders are the absolute strongest after Linlin, anything else is fair game. Daifuku, Oven, Compote, Perospero were all described as monsters? So were Amande, Bobbin, Mont d'Or before. Just because they are all powerhouses doesn't mean they are all equally strong, it just means they stand from the other BMP.Anyways, I wish I didn't saw the spoilers so I could have saved all my Linlin hype for now. That is what I am talking about! That is one menacing, scary, impressive, truly astounding 68 year old badass pirate woman and I just couldn't be more in love with it. Just by looking at her you can tell she is a monster not unlike Whitebeard or Kaido and getting that from an old lady is all I always want in shonen (when all we keep getting are badass old men).
This development is even more satisfying after so many chapters with her turned into Perospero's wild pet. -

He's cooking to save his crew. That's been the point for a while now.

I wouldn't say lost it's "flair" still my second fav arc of new world/timeskip. I do think the constant running and rehashing of the same things do drag the pacing, especially luffy fighting mochi dude again and again. And we see the same thing again and again (with that fight). It's not subtle in telling us "luffy has to beat this guy to grow" yes we know, don't beat us over the head with it though.
Huh, now that you've put it that way, the parallel's between this arc and Enies Lobby are pretty clear.
Luffy and Lucci did the same goddamn thing and weekly readers were annoyed by how much the fight was dragging.
I'm not complainng though. Seeing Luffy struggle but still hold his own against an antagonist whose been potrayed as a beast is pretty awesome for me.
This is much better than Doffy's fght.

Yeah Daifuku didn't have a choice since Carrot was already disabling the ships but at the same time he could have avoided attacking the ships when going after Carrot, cause some of the ships that Daifuku attacked were sinking but because of his anger he couldn't think straight and decided to straight up attack Carrot while at the same time accidentally attacking his own fleet. I mean Carrot was disabling the ships to cause them drift away, compared to Daifuku who caused some of the ships to sink. Daifuku failing to take down Carrot doesn't make him incompetent but accidentally attacking his own fleet well kind of but I can't blame him cause again he had no other choice and also his anger got the best of him. Also does it really matter that he attacked his own fleet that are filled with nothing but fodders, Carrot pretty much disabled most of the ships and they were beginning to drift away because of that so they really wouldn't have done much to the SHs. Compared to Daifuku Oven imo was more of an idiot when his anger got the best of him because Oven was about to sink Bege's ship which had the Cake to stop Big Mom on it, if Oven actually did succeed then the cake would be gone and Big Mom would have destroyed Totto Land.
-
A beyond pissed off yonkou entering your ship, is definitely a sight to behold^^
-
I know all the odds and plotarmor and luck help the SHs. but still a yonkou crew should look a bit more competent, even more considering this is not the arc they are going down. bm is the only one that saves them, and katakuri with perospero sometimes. Btw smoothie is still alive?
BM pirates had fails since day 1, with the info that Kidd sinks their ships, and that you can make deals with them in F1 to get out of trouble for a treasure they had no clue what it is.. Even katakuri almost got himself locked forever in mirrorworld if it wasn't for luffy wanting to beat him and not running anymore from fights. And they are all kinda water weak not only because they have large number of fruits users but also water weakness because they have sweets based crew. Can't daifuku just go with normal hits that don't wreck his own crew? Why use large area Attacks to get something small and fast. It's like using cannons to shoot a mouse.
And this sanji pudding thing is getting wierder and wierder. Pudding full inlove with sanji now…. and sanji thinking about nami if she is safe. huh?

The veteran thing does make some sense, them being seasoned sailors and fighters and all that, but they do need to be defeatable, the main characters just running away constantly isn't that fun to watch in the end, there needs to be some sort of silver lining. Make the antagonists a force to be reckoned with while leaving the heroes some options, the strawhats were saved by convenient writing too many times in this arc as it is. -
Damn, weightloss Big Mom looks like a freaking beast, riding Zeus and wielding Napoleon. I'm glad Daifuku got to shine too. He seems to have quite a few more power feats than I expected.

People seemed immediately interested in Daifuku. Subsequently, the information that they're tripplets to Katakuri definetly added to it.

It's not about displaying feats. It's about her looking fierce as fuck and really meaning business. We have enough feats from Big Mom to know she's dangerous as it is.

Not at all. I liked Big Mom before, but now we are getting to see the side of her that lives up to her being a Yonkou.
Beforehand her appearance and attitude didn't really scream Emperor to me, now I am starting to see it.

Does anyone else thought of the Phantom Blade from Black Cat after seeing Napoleon Blade Form?

Just because Carrot avoided Daifuku doesn't mean she can beat him and Carrot was already starting to get tired and lose stamina, we haven't even seen what else Daifuku can do with his df ability so don't be one of those judgmental people. Also no Mont-d'Or, Amande, and Bobbin were never portrayed as Monsters there names were just mentioned by Yonji and Niji when the enraged army passed them. There were many Big Mom Pirates and Charlottes at the tea party yet only Peros, Compote, Daifuku, and Oven were mentioned as Monsters alongside Katakuri and Smoothie and imo there was a reason why Oda listed them alongside the Generals not because they were as powerful as them but because they were almost as threatening as them. Nothing here proves that the veterans are weak, we've seen what Peros has done and imo he's still the most impressive and as for Daifuku and Oven well Oven has shown to have insane durability and he almost sunk Bege's ship and as for Daifuku's one the attacks caused by the genie was able to easily cut most of the ships in half and cause them to sink who knows what else he can do with his df ability. Just because they failed to take down their targets doesn't make them weak, look at Katakuri who failed to kill Sanji when he tried to fire a jelly bean at him and again when he failed to kill Luffy. I will say the some people shouldn't go overhyping the veterans but at the same some people like yourself also shouldn't go and underestimate them it's one of the most stupidest thing I see from people like you. If they actually got into a actual fight and they lost very badly then you can go and say their weak or whatever but for now nothing here proves that their weak, of course me saying these is kinda useless cause you're probably going to find some excuse in order to bash them so what's the point.

Paragraphs, person. I'm not reading that brick.
-
It doesn't bother me that BM Pirates are the weakest of the Yonkou since it was established fairly early on that their power came from information, allegiances, and territory rather than strength alone. Really, the frankly unweidly strength of BM and her commanders seems like more of a coincedence.
-
Again, a thoroughly enjoyable chapter on a visceral level. I mean, it's just fun and entertainment, plus Sanji being cool, and it had great art and flow.
And yeah, maybe, again, it has stuff that's kinda redundant/repetitive, and I get why some might be starting to feel arc fatigue by now. . .
I'm really enjoying it as a pure "ride". I'll see what my feelings are when I re-read the arc once it's finished. . .
-
Was a good chapter, even though I gotta say I hoped for a better end-of-year cliffhanger.
Nevertheless, the transformations continue. From Sulong Carrot to Devil Hag Mama, I certainly like the intimidation Oda created with her. (Too bad he made her look like a fool too much beforehand…) Carrot's Sulong form was over quicker than most people's hype for the Vinsmokes, lol. But it's a tease for what 'll come in Wano, I guess, so it's fine she didn't get a real fight.
The scene with Sanji and Bege was nice. Brook taking action was good to see, too. And about Mama landing on the Sunny, I guess this is the time now for the Vinsmokes (or Sun Pirates) to make their return. Or else, Going Merry will save them. xD
Also this, anyone?
-
Just saw this on reddit and it honestly cracked me up:
!
-
I don’t normally say this, but I feel like this whole chapter could’ve easily been condensed into 5 pages. Nothing really happened
Agreed. The Bege/Sanji argument and the Big Mom Homecoming were given a good amount of panel space. But everything else this chapter feels like it could've been tighter. Oh well…
I do love that no matter how serious the situation gets, or how intimidating a pose they are trying to strike, Zeus will never abandon DERP face. It's so bad Oda couldn't even add him to that final spread. Also, someone needs to kindly remind Jinbei of Section 12, Paragraph 4, Subletter A. of the official Strawhat Nakama Agreement: "All ships are to be treated as flesh-and-blood members of the crew and shall not be immediately abandoned at the first hint of trouble." (And yes, they had to add Addendum 5 specifically to cover Brook.)
Carrot being called a little sister, it's like we're going to have a little sister role in the crew :p also Nami also used the binoculars to observe this transformation is she going to now learn sulong and electro from Carrot too?
I love you guys SO much sometimes X-D
-
Was a pretty good chapter. Still not a big fan of this Sulong thing. Basically giving an already over-powered race another power up, that's over-powered. Now, yes it does have a drawback. But, we only got to see what someone like Carrot could do with it. Imagine what Nekomamushi and Inuarashi can do. This is why I'm not a big fan of it. Quite the convenience to introduce it here, too. What with them being outnumbered by a massive fleet. Just jump into your over-powered form and take most of them out, lol.
It's quite disappointing that a Yonko is going to be taken down by a cake. I know people like to harp on about how Oda is the greatest and what not, this is just absurd. Not to mention her entire crew has been reduced to a bunch of useless idiots, save Katakuri. If this is how Oda handles the Yonko so far, Wano will be set-up for disappointment for myself.
The ending was cool, but again i kind of don't get excited. Every time we get a moment like this, Oda does something that goes the SHP way or they get a convenience. Just let her beat them up already… It's not bad enough you've had one of the most powerful pirates running around like a complete moron for 8 hours wanting a cake.... It just kind of knocks the air out of me and ruins my enjoyment. The arc started pretty good, but has just deteriorated to what it is now. Just felt my enjoyment of the series drain every week, especially from this arc.
Anyway, enough of my negativity. Chapter was okay, just wish we'd move on already. Kinda of bored of seeing a Yonko get made a fool of, because the SHP's are there.
-
I personally find it hypocritical for some people bashing on characters like Daifuku and Oven for failing to take down their targets and calling them weak, yet we have characters like Big Mom a Yonko who has failed to kill the SHs and Katakuri one of the strongest Big Mom Pirate members and a guy with bounty over a billion who failed to kill Sanji when he tried to shoot him with a jelly bean and also failed to kill Luffy and even failed to stop him from using Brûlée to leave the mirro-world. I personally don't blame the characters as I mainly blame plot, also like other past villains they underestimated their enemies expect the same thing to happen with the Beasts Pirates when their time comes.
-
@Kai:
Next chapter (890), Whole Cake Island officially becomes the 2nd longest arc in One Piece, tied with Skypeia.
really? it didn't really feel that long
-
Wow, the complaints are somewhat strong this time around. This chapter was fun. The pacing, art, etc. was all to my liking.
Can anyone say Shokugeki no Sanji?
-

But you gotta remember that they're not trying to take Big Mom down–they have 0.0000% chance of doing that. They're just trying to SURVIVE her. All these shenanigans that we've been reading about for the last 4-6 months has been solely so that our main plot-armored protagonists can just survive this encounter. It gives Big Mom some of her street cred back.
Also, Big Mom cannot "beat them up"--if she hits someone, she's gonna kill em. It's a 0 or 1, there's no inbetween. So since Oda can't "0" his main characters, he can't show them tanking blows from Big Mom. I'm sorry you're not enjoying it as much and I hope it picks up again for you really soon! Reading week to week sucks sometimes...
-
I do hope we get to see Daifuku again soon as I do want to see more from his genie also still waiting for Compote to show up, I still believe that Oda will eventually show her do something as she's the only veteran that still hasn't showcased anything yet.
