I've just been having the biggest grin on my face since hearing this news. Especially sweet given the GOP's repulsiveness when they went crawling back to Moore.

@MDL:
Nothing and I mean nothing about that tweet sounds like Trump made it.
A staffer wrote that, I'm 100% sure.
They probably aren't letting him anywhere near a phone for at least 12 hours. -
That Tweet has to be FAKE NEWS. There's no crying of miscounting and "Sad!". Totally not Trump.
Still it's interesting that such a civil Tweet was made under his Twitter, no matter whether it was him or not (which it most certainly wasn't).
-
That tweet is too coherent to be written by Trump.
-
What does this mean for Political Master Strategist Bannon?
-
They're letting other people on Trump's twitter now so that can make a more solid case for his lawyer having confessed instead of Trump himself having confessed to obstruction.
-
What does this mean for Political Master Strategist Bannon?
Beltway pundits will probably still be in awe at his brilliance, but I say let Bannon put Arpaio on the ballot next year.
-
Haha! The Trump is going nuts xD
-
Decided to flip over to Fox to see their coverage. One of the pundits said "Yeah, this was a loss for the Republicans. A seat we should have won. But it was because the establishment Republicans shoved an establishment candidate down Alabamans' throats, they rebelled, and elected a nut! Roy Moore was a bad candidate from the beginning. But now we need to find who lost this election, who caused this seat to be lost"
Uhm, I'm pretty sure I know who. Mitch, Trump, Bannon, and everybody else that ACTIVELY campaigned for an alleged pedophile to get a vote on a Tax bill.
-
And it only took a +31 shift to win this seat!
-
Quick reminder that because Trump grabbed up Sessions from his Alabama senate spot in the first place, this special election had to occur, and it has resulted in a fucking flipped seat in a totally unexpected place.
-
For a future election race… West Virginia has a candidate by the name of Don Blankenship who's going to running next year. He's the former CEO who served 1 year in federal prison for serious mine safety regulations which resulted in 29 miners dying at Upper Big Branch...
Right now we have a governor who owes millions in taxes for his coal mines…hah....we're sadly a Trump state...
-
Manchin is very popular in WV so he won’t lose.
-
Manchin is very popular in WV so he won’t lose.
Manchin isn't that bad, but you'd be surprised about the support for Blankenship, especially here locally for me.
-

Then again, never underestimate the magic properties the word "coal" has over white people in West Virginia.
-
Congrats America, you may be stupid, but you are not THAT stupid.

You literally described what WV politics has been for a long time now…Well there's also the way below subpar public education too....smh

Somehow even when he's not intending to he still manages to fuck over/with Sessions.
-

Hahaha yeah man, shut the fuck up.
-
I'm generally not interested, but I can't wait for the SNL sketch & more based on this election.

Now now, one must learn to laugh at themselves. It's the only way we've managed to stay sane so far.

I am very looking forward to Daily Show, Colbert, Conan, and John Oliver.
-

Hard sell in light of the fact Alabama almost sent an accused pedophile (or perophile as Robby said) to the Senate and The fact that Alabama was desperate enough to send a Republican to Washington that they rigged things in their favor meaning people couldn't vote.
We won't be able to get a laugh out of the stupidity of the last seven years (and the last few weeks where this race is concerned) next year at the earliest.
-
I'm also glad Dems no longer need to comfort themselves by talking about how it still would have been a type of win if Moore had won.
-
Congratulations America. You didn’t elect a peado to the senate. I’m proud of you too!

The /pol people on 4chan are raging away saying black people are destroying America's future, the opposition is controlled by liberals, and that they also sabotaged the results…meanwhile their are stories of voter suppression, and african americans being denied voting rights in certain areas.

The /pol people can eat shit.
-
Alabama, you deserve at least a pat on the back for this one. Good job~
-
@S.C.:
The /pol people can eat shit.
I concur. Their meme game is strong but their values and beliefs are a pile of stinky doo-doo

For the people who wants to see Roy Moores entourage dunked on just a little bit more

Beaten to the punch by about a 2 or 3 pages.
-
Shouldn't you swear on the constitution? Just saying.

I'm sure they worked in some "de Jews did it!" narrative too.

Was very surprised about Jones winning this morning! Well done Alabama.
I'd like to know more about Jones not being able to take up his seat in Congress. How can McConnell prevent that from happening? What's the usual procedure?

The usual procedure is, he won, he takes the seat immediately.
What McConnell is going to do is refuse to confirm him until after the tax bill vote so he can keep the republican temp in there. WHich is completely illegal. But its exactly what they did to stall the supreme court and no one fought back hard enough against it.
Hopefully the dems have developed a spine this time and DO something.
-
Doug Jones was elected in a massive high coverage election by the people of Alabama. Way harder for them to spin it as illegitimate than they could with a "illegitimate" President. I just want Jones to walk to his seat and dare them to stop him.
-
Last night when I was chatting with a friend I blurted out "Omg yes. Moore lost to Jones!" His reply was. "Was that a UFC fight?" Hahaha. I kinda miss not being so aware of politics. I understand the burn out.
I'm even having dreams about living in an overly stupid world of extreme people like the ones in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Idiocracy.

The state election board apparently won't certify the results for at least two weeks so he couldn't be seated until then.

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor to replace Franken https://www.rawstory.com/2017/12/minnesota-lieutenant-governor-tina-smith-to-replace-franken-report/
-
Moore still hasn't conceded, apparently.

So I guess they're going to be pushing through the tax bill again in less than two weeks then?
Sigh.
I do wonder what the results of this might have on the FCC vote. Considering that's not a popular vote or even a full house/senate thing but just five guys and three of them are bought out.
-
Media is getting completely played with this Strzok story. From the moment I saw the initial NYT story, knew this was going to be the tack for firing Mueller. And last night, reporters were actually invited to look at the full list of text messages by the DOJ before Rosenstein testified today.
Dancing on a knife-edge with this investigation.
-
Wow… I am stunned... a Child Molestor did not win a Senate seat in deep red Alabama just for being "Not the Democrat"….
I am simultaneously incredibly happy at this outcome and ashamed of the state of this country that we are now in a position where that almost happened in the first place.
-

The Times has consistently been carrying water for Trump so it's no surprise the story started there.
-
Well, it wasn't the Haberman/Thrush wing, so I found it a little disappointing. Think it was Adam Goldman, among others, who has done some pretty solid critical investigative work.
To be fair to them, this is one of those stories where, if the information was handed to you, you'd almost have to report on it. But think the motivation was obvious.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
It is nice to see Rosenstein finally growing a pair today. Difficult to remember that he was widely-respected before the filth of Trump reached him.

Omarosa to leave the White House
In addition to everything, Omarosa got fired from whatever job she did at the right house. So, that's another bit of good news.
Also, according to April Ryan, Omarosa was actually fired by John Kelly and escorted off the premises, shouting vulgarities the entire time. I believe this to be true.
-
@Monkey:
Hahaha yeah man, shut the fuck up.
Why you upset bro? Just making a compliment that America is actually smart enough to not endorse a clear pedophile.
No need to be so testy.
-
You know, this unexpected but amazing Doug Jones win actually fills me with hope I didn't have before…
We MIGHT be ok. The republicans have been struggling to get their 50-51 votes for almost everything they've been doing, which is why nearly nothing has been getting done and why they were so desperate to shove through this Tax plan.
Also, now one of their sure-thing Republican voters is no longer there for them. That hard time they've been having is only going to get harder.
Plus, just the fact that this happened in a very good sign in general.
Most assumed this was a slam dunk for Moore because: Republican in deep-Red Alabama with God-King Trump's support and the backing of the rest of his party.
The fact that he lost this despite rampant voter suppression and the state's normal uber-redness is telling. Progressives CAN galvanize still. Maybe the "DNC cheated us!" "Dems are Just as Bad!" wing of the Left are finally starting to wise up.
Maybe we can win some more seats in 2018. The House is a pipe dream, but maybe we can slim down their margin a bit? Maybe we can take the Senate?
Maybe Trump (or Pence if Impeachment happens) WON'T win reelection?!?!
Man this outcome really makes me want to hope.
-
I'd be surprised if his shtick works two times in a row. That said, you never know what Trump might throw at you, so if he steps up his game, builds a decent strategy (I don't know if "non-pc political outsider" will work twice), and gets his fans and the internet on his side with the memes… I guess trump could win.
A charismatic democrat like Biden, ideally who can stand up to Trump with the machismo... maybe with a few sick burns, that could work. The way I see it, America's all about getting them independents voting for you with charismatic likeability, if the Dems can weaponise that (instead of Clintoning it with someone whose qualified, but uncharismatic and cringy) then they have a very good shot of winning.
They just need someone with some form of power / charisma and no major skeletons
-

The senate is apparently the one that's going to be harder to take over since there won't be many republicans up for re-election while the house will have plenty
-

From what I heard, this actually is more of the norm, though there are cases where people who won a special election got in quickly due to overwhelming victory. Like 70% win or so.

Yeah. The House is tough, but it's viable in a blue wave year. The Senate will be more difficult because there's only about two places we may be able to pick up while defending lots of our own. That said, originally we needed 3 before Alabama.
-
One of the seats up in 2018 is Ted Cruz's. Taking his head would be magnificent.
