Sanji is the best at cooking seafood, but he is overall good at making just about anything. Also, this has to do with how these characters grew up, but generally the ones other than Sanji who can actually do some decent cooking would be narrowed down to pretty much Nami, Usopp, and Robin.
Other members can pretty much just kind of slice, roast, and mix ingredients.
Oh, also, Nami's cooking requires a premium fee even among crew members.

But he still said cook and musician. Thus cementing them in stone early on as foreshadowing for a cook and musician being needed. Except the latter always got treated as a gag.
Also, Zoro tells Luffy on top of that page that they need a navigator too.
But the point of this has nothing to do with what Luffy said.
Blissed was talking about how no one would care if a helmsman was not introduced unlike a chef. Regardless if Luffy said it or not, anyone, but Luffy, could cook. Only after the timeskip that Sanji role as a cook has been evolved and made Sanji a better nutrisionist.
And Luffy said two roles, which none were essential for the ship, therefore it is okay that a helmsman position was not mentioned or heavily emphasized earlier. Because most importantly, a navigator can guide and give instructions to everyone on the ship. However as we saw thid was not enough.
The shipwright position wasn't touched upon until Skypeia, if I remember correctly, when the Starw Hats were well into their journey.
But Blissed was talking about how the story never emphasized the need for a helmsman like a navigator, cook, doctor, and shipwright. And I posted a picture of the story emphasizing the need for a cook position even if several crewmates can technically cook. Although these pages support both points that we are saying lol:

Seeing the ship get damaged, made us think on how to repair, what to do when the damage is already done. Few will think on how to prevent said damage.
So I disagree that never would no one complain. The fact is, this is supposed to be a sea that only one ship was able to tame. East Blue had sea monsters, and the terrors of a realistic world ocean. After the Starw Hats got their ship, and all the way to Paradise (not even the full thing) Nami's skills allowed them to avoid many dangers. Franky comes in so that even if Nami could not help avoid damages, then Franky will keep the ship in top shape. Something was missing in the mix, a Fishman that could take them along without suffering serious damage.
Jimbe surfed tsunamis as a kid, do you think the Sunny would need wings to go up the knock up stream with him at the helm?
Anyways this was all to say, Jimbe is pretty badass.

Yea I don't remember the exact chapter for every little thing, but all the essential roles were stuff that the story made clear that they needed:
Navigator: Luffy explicitly wanted one, as Count pointed out
Chef: Luffy explicitly wanted one, as Count pointed out
Doctor: Ch. 94. Additionally, it become more glaring when Nami fell ill back around the Drum Island arc.

Glad I actually went to check regarding the helmsman role; it had slipped my mind that Luffy had explicitly stated he wanted a shipwright. I had been under the impression for quite some time that it was technically an exception. But yea, all four roles, Luffy has wanted them, or the story made it obvious that they needed said role anyhow. To Luffy, these four roles were important. Yes, it is similar to the helmsman position in that they're only relevant when Oda wants them to be. (Zou for the doctor role, chef for this current arc) But at the same time, it's extremely obvious as to why a pirate crew would have positions like chef or doctor filled. Even when Oda isn't having them show off their professions in flashy ways, naturally you'd still want them on standby in case you're hungry or sick. Same thing with a navigator, you obviously need to know how to get to where you want to go, and as for a shipwright, Oda made it clear that their pirate ship isn't invincible, so someone needs to take care of it.
Helmsman on the other hand… not so much. To my knowledge, he's never explicitly asked for such a role to be filled. And we as a audience aren't really led to believe that it is this super important, needed role either. They got past trials such as traveling to Skypeia, several members have steered the ship with little fuss. And arguably most importantly, said role was not filled until after the timeskip. Anything that's absolutely essential should've been added before entering the New World imo. Yea, we know the New World is crazy and all, but again, he has yet to have pushed for such a role. Oda could just make it so that they get through the rest of the series without one, and I wouldn't even care. It's a bonus role, the icing on the cake, albeit Oda will in the future now make important, despite not needing to. From my perspective, Jinbe needed to contribute something, and this was just the most obvious choice, which Oda has now confirmed.
I have already addressed all of those points. Maybe it's because I grew up by the coast, and my grandfather is a sailor, but the concept of a helmsman was on my mind as I read One Piece. Mainly because Luffy did not really take the role of steering the ship in the traditional way a protagonist would.
Imagine that instead of a ship, it was a plane they traveled. Sure, they could all probably…do some sort of piloting, but there would come a time, especially because there are battles, that a specialist pilot would be needed, no matter if they had the navigator, mechanic, the doctor and the musician. Oh yeah, and the cook.
The truth is, a lot of times the crew has depended on coup de burst to escape. They were trying to do the same against a tsunami, that was how they escaped of any danger they cannot handle at sea. The first half of the trip cost them a ship.
Have you played Skies of Arcadia, it's about pirates, but instead of navigating the seas, they fly across the skies with their ships. The main character, was the captain, and yes he steered the ship, many other did so as well. Regardless, one of the crew members you could recruit was helmsman. So it's not like this is a foreign concept.

I played Skies of Arcadia and I remember the Dopplegangers. Holy crap. Even if Luffy never specifically stated he would need a helmsman, he has specifically asked Jinbei to become a crew member. He's pretty much semi-confirmed to be a crew member, regardless of if the role is required or not. He has something to contribute to the ship.
Skies of Arcadia is such a beautiful game, I love it.

This convo about helmsman is futile. Of a has used writing techniques to emphasize they need number on the crew he's the only one who has been really outspoken about how they appear to the outs8de world and he's really up on world events and such, if you go back in the story it shows how well each member will fit cause a slight emphasis was show for what they can do for the crew going forward. I'm aware of the '10 men should be enough' line that Luffy made in the beginning and they're up to 9 excluding himself, so I agree 11 isn't able to be ruled out but I would have to conclude that if there is to be a tenth member, we haven't met them yet, and I'm hoping it's a female if that is the case, though I'd be fine with things staying as they are; if the Tontatta back in Dressrosa happened to be actual fairies and capable of using some kind of magic, that would have been the perfect final nakama but they turned out not to be quite what was speculated. Also, Jimbei being their Helmsman just showed him surfing the damn ship through the green room part of a wave, who else but a guy like him could do that? Plus with a strong melee fighter like him as a Helmsman, he makes a good foil for Blackbeard's Helmsman, Burgess. And like I said, he doubles as a lifeguard too, not to mention he can talk to fish (not sure even Chopper can understand them, can he?) So his position is pretty solid and if someone else joins, there's nothing practical left for them to fill, so they'd likely be more of a Robin, where their skill is unique and only useful to someone becoming Pirate King rather than just being on a pillaging crew.
The fishing pole weapon I had come up with actually is more complex than I described, I was just using Sha Gojyo's weapon as an example of how it functioned as a lashing weapon, but the chain part would just be the fishing line, not an actual metal chain, and on the end of the pole opposite where the line and hook are, there'd be a trident tip (since that's a signature of the underwater folk anyway). Then I thought of giving it a Devil Fruit to bring to life like Lasso or Funkfreed or the guards from Impel Down, and thought a giant spider would be cool. So it can basically use its spider web threads as the fishing line and shoot it out and retract it at will, and be used like Batman's grappling hook guns. I just thought a Fishman who had that as his weapon/partner would have been a great idea if Jimbei ended up not joining, but he did and I've got no complaints.

But we only found out that Jimbei could be an awesome helmsman, more skilled than any other ordinary helmsman, a few chapters ago. Before then, helmsmen were never special at all. It was an interchangeable role. If Oda could make the helmsman role work that good out of nowhere, he can sort of plug any occupation into the crew and make it work well. Pirate crews didn't have archaeologists, but Oda made that work too. All Brook even does is only play music because it's a pirate stereotype. So yeah, another Robin can work. Or just a random role Oda really likes for whatever reason.

An idea that I liked that I got inspired to have from a friend is a crustacean zoan. It would look and act bug-esque to distinguish itself enough from Chopper and be skilled in defense by using its shell to block and parry attacks. And it could also maybe dig holes and punch as fast/powerful as a mantis shrimp. Oda's never done a crustacean Zoan before some reason. He considered making Inazuma a crab Zoan instead of a scissor person. But one of the Gifters in Kaido's crew has a crab claw, so I guess that's out of the window.

Like I said, I want more of Big Mom's past. At least one more flashback. Something like how the family started. Was Perospero or Compote the first born? Was Streusen really Pero's father, etc. There's just so many more questions about her past that still need explaining.

To me it's actually pretty straightforward. Katakuri is a mochi man so, just like every part of Luffy's body is rubber, every part of Katakuri's body is mochi.

Welcome to the forum. You are right, if this cake is going to be the best thing she ever tried, to the point she will feel pinnacle of bliss, then that should be a trigger to get a similar reaction than when she was a kid.
However, there is still the possibility that she did not eat the kids. Oda just made it seems that way.

What Count said, also not sure how much of a fan I am about inheriting devil fruit powers through cannibalism. I have gone in length about that before, but there is an established method of transfer. If this is a new one, then where does it stop?

I didn't really buy the whole she ate them thing ,the government talk beforehand made me skeptical. My mind is set on the Marines tried crashing the party to get the orphans or bm herself (I think her power was mentioned), chaos began, they made off with most the kids, killed caramel in the process, her fruit was reborn and bm found it during her days alone before dude showed up who can make for out of anything.

But in terms of we already seen what to expect it applies to what I'm thinking too. The eclairs from elbaph was the most delicious thing she ever came across. As for it failing, it's unlikely, since this is repeatedly implied as being Sanji's big moment, the thing that definitively gives them an opportunity to escape Big Mom as the arc comes to a close. A big difference to previous plans failing, as those were occurring much earlier in the arc. It failing undercuts that heavily, to say the least. At best I could see a scenario where the cake unfortunately gets ruined somehow, but there's still a sizable piece of it left that gets saved and fed to Big Mom anyways, with it still doing the job. I don't agree with other theories like people suggesting that they have to bake a cake the 2nd time around.
Not that expecting Big Mom to become unconscious is unreasonable, but she needs to learn what happened on her fifth birthday from Streussen's memories being edited out by Pudding. Linlin can't get that info if she's lying asleep for the rest of the arc after being fed the cake. We have a character desperate to learn what happened to her missing family on her fifth birthday, a character that can manipulate memories, a character who was a witness to what happened on Big Mom's birthday, and a character who is linked to the organization Carmel dealt with (Stussy/CP0). Also, Pudding's memory powers have been completely irrelevant throughout this entire arc outside of the erasing Reiju's memories in their introduction. Meaning that if she doesn't use them again o Streussen, her powers were a complete waste of time and potential. I very much doubt that Oda aligned all of these pieces coincidentally instead of them leading to a big payoff.
Why would all of that be delayed to Elbaf when Big Mom's flashback is being made relevant in this arc? Especially the ending taking place in Totland, not Elbaf. Oda will find some way to rope Streussen, he always takes convenient shortcuts like that whenever it's necessary.
And my big issue is that I don't see Luffy ever fighting Big Mom after this arc. I'm even skeptical of her even returning in Elbaf. Big Mom learning about what happened to Carmel and how Carmel is a fraud crushes her dreams. Thus fulfilling the quota of crushing villain's dreams that Oda has stated Luffy must do as a protagonist.
And I still expect the Straw Hats and Charlotte Family to teamup to serve Big Mom a cake. Pudding has to get outed for working with the Straw Hats. And it would be way too weird for the Big Mom Pirates to let the Straw Hats serve Big Mom cake and then go right back to hunting them down.

We have a character desperate to learn what happened to her missing family on her fifth birthday, a character that can manipulate memories, a character who was a witness to what happened on Big Mom's birthday, and a character who is linked to the organization Carmel dealt with (Stussy/CP0). Also, Pudding's memory powers have been completely irrelevant throughout this entire arc outside of the erasing Reiju's memories in their introduction. Meaning that if she doesn't use them again o Streussen, her powers were a complete waste of time and potential. I very much doubt that Oda aligned all of these pieces coincidentally instead of them leading to a big payoff.
I'm aware of all this. I'm just having a hard time understanding how exactly Streussen is supposed to make a comeback when it's explicitly mentioned that he is down for the count, as well as everyone being far away from him, with no reason to check up on him anytime soon, much less invade his memories. Saying essentially "Don't worry, it'll happen somehow" is not exactly comforting, don't really have a response for that. As for Stussy, I also don't see why she'd blab about anything, much less someone randomly asking her anything that would lead to her revealing that information. Assuming she's still around of course.
I do agree with you however that it'd be very weird for Pudding's powers to not lead to some big moment in this arc, I'm just, again, struggling to see why she'd suddenly use it on Streussen where's there no need for her to. Some people also suggest she'll use them on Big Mom instead. Maybe that's also quite unlikely, but probably less so than her grabbing Streussen's memories at this point in time.
Why would all of that be delayed to Elbaf when Big Mom's flashback is being made relevant in this arc?
Beats me, just food for thought. I'm very interested however in seeing if there's something more important there regarding the eventual trip (or they just stumble across it) to Elbaf. Like maybe there's a Red Poneglyph there for example.

I hear ya, I just ultimately feel that we're in somewhat uncharted territories here since it involves a Yonko, regarding how swift the "crushing" will take place.
As for it being weird, I was under the impression that as soon as Big Mom spots the cake, uhh, she's not exactly going to wait for permission. The BM Pirates don't have to let them do anything.

But we only found out that Jimbei could be an awesome helmsman, more skilled than any other ordinary helmsman, a few chapters ago. Before then, helmsmen were never special at all. It was an interchangeable role. If Oda could make the helmsman role work that good out of nowhere, he can sort of plug any occupation into the crew and make it work well. Pirate crews didn't have archaeologists, but Oda made that work too. All Brook even does is only play music because it's a pirate stereotype. So yeah, another Robin can work. Or just a random role Oda really likes for whatever reason.
Oh, a trident tip and Devil Fruit empowerment. That would also be kooky and cool lol.
An idea that I liked that I got inspired to have from a friend is a crustacean zoan. It would look and act bug-esque to distinguish itself enough from Chopper and be skilled in defense by using its shell to block and parry attacks. And it could also maybe dig holes and punch as fast/powerful as a mantis shrimp. Oda's never done a crustacean Zoan before some reason. He considered making Inazuma a crab Zoan instead of a scissor person. But one of the Gifters in Kaido's crew has a crab claw, so I guess that's out of the window.
Oh, I'd figured Jimbei was going to be their helmsman since the end of Marinford. He was a shoe-in for joining, and when discussions came to what position he'd fill, it seemed pretty obvious. I mean, if each person on Blackbeard's crew is going to have a one-on-one match with the Straw Hats, and there's no Straw Hat Helmsman to counter Burgess, there's no one better suited than newcomer Jimbei (just the timing of his recruitment was uncertain), whose physicality certainly matches Burgess' and would make him able to steer the ship even in incredibly choppy waters with his enormous strength, plus as a fishman he'd be able to read the waves and figure out pathways (his amazing performance surfing through the green room, being more recent proof) and even jumping into the water dragging a chain so he could tow the ship from the water if he had to (like how the Caribou Pirates were using Mohmoo). Other than being a lifeguard or fisherman, there's not really any other appropriate position he could fill on the crew, so that one just seemed inevitable (but he certainly could masterfully perform the other two when not needed as a Helmsman). I mean, just imagine him working in tandem with Nami, what a dynamic duo they'd make; the big brother-little sister angle they'd have going would be awesome. They'd make up for any weaknesses the other has.
Wasn't there also a pirate with a crab claw already? His crew got butchered by Hody Jones, didn't they? Not sure how Oda's going to handle marine life zoans given how the sea hates DF users. Maybe only certain species that can survive out of water for most if not all the time. Turtles/tortoises seem fair game, after all.

I thought axolotls were lizards, so at best maybe amphibious? I'm talking about things that will never survive outside of water, since if you transformed into one while on dry land, wouldn't you experience that weakness in a huge way? You'd be better off going in the water since you'd at least be able to breathe if not move, but that's kind of a waste. Just thinking about it from an overly pedantic standpoint.
As for cannibalism, I'm not sure if DF abilities are able to be passed on by direct ingestion of the previous user. Even if Mother Caramel was devoured, it's possible that her death from that would have caused her DF to recycle into another nearby fruit, and Linlin could have simply also eaten that fruit during her rampage and thus gained that ability. I'm not quite ready to believe there are more than two ways to acquire a DF ability, and even then, one of them (Blackbeard taking Whitebeard's Gura Gura no Mi) is still unknown in how it works. Blackbeard certainly didn't eat Whitebeard since his body was still there after.
And I can't find the next chapter on the site I usually use, so that's why I'm still stuck in this one. Not sure about everyone else.

It doesn't need to be delayed to elbaph the blackout she has after eating the cake could lead to all the family besides food dude wondering wtf happened and his nonchalant attitued about her laying waste to her kids could lead to pudding dragging out his memories. Idk I'm not saying it's happening my way or pushing that I'm right and y'all are wrong, it's just how I see it playing out. Hell we could both be semi right. I mean does her blacking out count as being unconscious? I mean we seen how destructive she is in her sleep. Rendering her unconscious from deliciousness could very well be the trigger to the bloodbath I'm expecting
What if it causes a massive expulsion of all the soul power she's collected that presumably has some kind of empowering effect, and the resulting chaos disperses whatever kids of hers that are in a position to keep on pursuing the Straw Hats? Like a gigantic blast of Haoshoku Haki but it'll only knock out the people on her side who are too close to her.
