! Last chapter has no bath scenes
! …But there are still tits and asses, right? It's the core theme of this manga, it needs them! :wassat:
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
! Zeref and Mavis reincarnated and coincidentally meet at Lucy's party
Seriously? Forget what I said some posts ago. No, Mashima, don't even try! Just write a gag manga instead, okay?
-
! So we aren't even allowed to see someone actually doing something romantic or just hooking up with anyone? Booo!

Let me guess.. none of the Spriggans showed up anywhere in that chapter?
-
So I'm going to read this crap's final chapter on One Piece's 20th anniversary. What blasphemy.
-
Even in the final chapter Hiro disappoints.

Bleach was great early on because it focused on Ichigo's development on a person.
Read the ending of this chapter 181. You'll see why Bleach should have ended right there; Ichigo's character arc/conflict had come to a close.
Bleach was basically a 3 Act Play.
The 1st act was Karakura Town, the 2nd Act was early soul society, and the 3rd act was the ending fights in soul society.
In a series like Bleach and Fairy Tail that don't have over-arching goals (such as One Piece or Naruto), you need to have a certain element to focus on - which will usually be the characters and their development in that world.
Too many arcs in Fairy Tail did little to progress the characters or world in any meaningful sense (I stopped at early Grand Magic games). The drama was poor, and the worldbuilding was non-existant for much of the series. As a result, instances where Fairy Tail saves the city or world feel meaningless since there's no context for it too matter.
When One Piece ends, you'll feel the impact of what Luffy did on the world since the worldbuilding was there.

Hmm, I wonder how good would Bleach be, if I'd cut it at the right moment. So would Bleach actually be a genuinely great read if I'd strictly stop at chapter 181? Or would there be too much loose ends nevertheless?
-
You'd need the final battle against Gin. Who killed Aizen, and manipulated soul society into turning against eachother.
!

The Aizen issue is the only problem. It's a loose end.
The character development of Ichigo and the rest, the character arsc, and the sense of closure helped make the first 181 chapters feel like an actual story. There's a 'reason' or 'purpose' to it. It's great.
As where the rest of the series kinda sucks.

The art used to have character and the blackness worked, those were the days.

I remember when the spoilers for Naruto and Bleach's last chapters came out we had shit to talk about it, but here…It is so lacking in content.
Shame.

About shipping, is it legitimate to shorten Lucy&Natsu to Luna (instead of Nacy or Lutsu)?
And yeah, it's really sad that I'm thinking about that kind of stuff now?
-
Most people use NaLu
-
There's a wikia solely for Fairy Tail couples??????? With the whole summaries putting emphasis about ships??????? No, I get why Dragon Slayers don't get along with ships, as this really is overkill.
-
Awesome website. I clicked Random Page out of curiousity and the first thing that pops up is Natsu x Romeo and then Gray x Loki. Either the ships are random or everyone is shipped with everyone in there.
-
Also it doesn't help that a lot of these people get WAAAAAAY more spotlight than in the goddamn manga itself. Like Hibikenny, as if I'd still know about Hibiki and Jenny.

or everyone is shipped with everyone in there.
Well, there's this ship: http://fairytailcouples.wikia.com/wiki/Cakza

At least my ship, Gajevy got a baby.
-
It was kinda touching seeing Lucy remembering the moments ever since she joined the FT guild.
Btw it has started..
-
Nice last chapter.
-
How can there be a reincarnation of Mavis and Zeref if they died only one year ago?
And why the hell Mashima had to put Natsu and Lucy so subtle? Even Kubo had to make his pairing official in the last chapter even though there was this few chemistry between his characters.
And what the hell happened to Master Bob?
-
I am pretty happy that Lucy wasn't banged by Natsu. They never never really seemed interested in that regard. And Idoubt it's about being subtle since Gajeel is having a kid and Gray is getting that body.
-
Mmm substanard finale but it was a sweet one nonetheless. Likewise I'm happy they didn't pair Natsu and Lucy, they just seem like good friends and I'm glad at least Mashima sees it that way. Only gripe I can give is that if Anna is stuck in the future, isn't that a paradox. The dragon slayers were one thing since they didn't have family but Anna is Lucy's ancestor so…wouldn't Lucy you know...not exist.
Not much to really say, it a happy ending and really that's all I can ask for. It's been a fun ride FT and, though the last few arcs were shoddy and I've had my complaints. I don't regret reading it. It was still plenty charming and I'll be more then happy to re-read previous arcs. Here's to another successful series. Mr Mashima, but please dude, work on your plot for the next please ^^.
-
For what it is, that ending was descent.
It became a mess, but I'm still happy I read Fairy Tail. Ever since I was a kid I've loved MMORPGs and early Fairy Tail nailed the feeling I get from those games. There's a world to explore filled with magic, guilds and strange creatures, and you can't wait to see the characters go on an adventure! Mashima deserves some praise too - I can't think of any other mangaka who's put out several double chapters and special side stories with that frequency as him. I don't think he ever missed a deadline and the art never downgraded to scribbles. Mashima can write good, funny stories, and his art is perfect for shonen series.
The problems with Fairy Tail is that after a while they stopped going on adventures (and doing guild stuff like quests) and instead just hung out at the guild. The series dragged out for too long, and most notably there was never any consequences. Characters die only to be revived next chapter, enemies turns out to be friends, the guild gets re-built numerous times. The worst one is by far Makarov, he should've been dead log ago and let Laxus have some development. But nope, nothing negative can happen in this universe. Another point is the fan-service. I like fan-service once in a while, but I like it to be consistent and mindful of the story. Fairy Tail started out relatively tame but towards the end it got ridiculous and started distracting from the story (especially that damn crying face - it's the same every time).
I hope Mashima continues with a new story. But if he want to do ecchi stuff, either go all out from the start or leave it be. As for the story, I hope he focuses on light-hearted, funny mangas. It's what he does best.
I don't regret reading it, but I'm glad it's over.
-
And so ends Fairy Tail.
Where to FUCKING start?
This series started out with so much promise, with a good premise, active female characters and an interesting spin on magic. However it is clear that Mashima was not interested in telling a story with long lasting character development, and instead decided to focus on making sure Lucy's tits and ass were shoved in our faces as much as possible. The absolute OBSESSION with sticking to the status quo was what sunk this series in my eyes. No long lasting changes, no meaningful character growth. How many times did Gray attempt to pull a Sasuke and then Mashima goes. "NOPE WE ARE BACK TO SQUARE ONE". I mean hell at least Sasuke Uchiha actually changed his view on the world through the run of Naruto. But this? It ends EXACTLY the way it started.
I can't remember barely anything of what happened in this series. (Aside from the orgasm magic, that will be legendary). Mashima had great work ethic and the art was always on par. Yes there were some cute moments and cool moments (Gajeel and Levy was actually fun to see), but the Status Quo had to reign above all, and it is a damn shame that Fairy Tail decided to just tread water, than become something truly great.
Friendship.
Predictable
Status Quo
Titties.
Fairy Tail….

I thought she already had children before travelling to the future,

While not a bad chapter, my only reaction to the chapter is a big ol Bleh. Much like Bleach and other series that have ended in the past few years for me, a final chapter can be fine on it's own, but the finale only works really well if everything leading up to that point was solid. Once again, a solid chunk of the series was either mediocre to down right bad, so it's hard to really like this chapter when all the characters being shown are either forgettable, or after over 500 chapter haven't really had any worthwhile development. I don't mind the fact that Mashima really didn't throw any of these characters into a solid relationship and have them go anywhere, because the romance aspect was never really touched on very much. Though the whole reincarnation thing and having pages dedicated to that was pretty laughable.
At the end of the day, Fairy Tail was an entertaining time sink. It never had really great moments for me, and only up until the Eidolas stuff were things solid enough, which after that point it went into mediocre/terrible.
-
lol, why isn't everyone banging each other ?
The sequel will probably be a hentai anyway.
I'm sorry what's the hundred-year quest? I've dropped this manga 5 years ago or so. -

I'm sorry what's the hundred-year quest? I've dropped this manga 5 years ago or so.A quest that is supposedly so hard that it takes 100 years to complete. It was mentioned in the first ~100 chapters btw, so you could technically remember :)
Gildartz tried it but had to quit after getting destroyed by Acnologia.
-
I'm actually surprised that Mashima bothered to grant Lucy's dream of being successful writer. I don't find it all that rewarding, but whatever. Mavis & Zeref incarnation scene made me cringe from how utterly forced and senseless it was. Everything else pretty much solved itself, something I can't really complain about anymore. Still, I couldn't help but crack a smile from various characters' interactions despite not remembering most of them. Totally better ending than Bleach's, IMHO.
FT is in no way a masterpiece, but it has its own charm, however little. I really hope Mashima can learn from various missteps made in this manga and become better mangaka. Tits and asses will still be there, I'm sure, but if balanced with palatable story arcs, I'll definitely partake :)
-

Is there any meaning in the name Iris? Like, anything at all, maybe something about Lucy liking rainbows? Or is it just random stuff?
-
At least Naruto had the giant creepy post-war-orgy that our only knowledge of it happening is the complete illogical pairs.
-
Natsu and Lucy shouldve been like….....Gappy and Yasuho in terms of relationship and development.
FT was a wasted potential.
-
Also what's the deal with the name origin and the fairy at the end? Yes, I know, it got a little bit elaborated in a side story, but my main problem is that aside from that mentioning it just had absolutely no meaning or impact.
In all these 500+ chapters no one even remotely close cared about whether or not fairies exist. Therefore the final, final page completely misses any meaning or impact. Really, never ever ANY of the characters got influenced in any way by the question whether or not fairies exist. Or am I forgetting something?
-
So, who's better at ending the series? Bleach or Fairy?
-
Honestly… between crap that at least makes sense and crap that doesn't make any sense, I'd pick the first. Fairy Tail. But that's just my opinion. Why don't we have a poll for it though?
-
Bleach was actually a really good show at one point though… Reread the first 20 or so volumes. It was bad from Hueco Mundo onward, but it was at least good for like 1/3rd of its run.
Fairy Tail? I knew it was shit since Fighting Festival. Tower of Heaven was the last good arc the series had.
-
Gosh. I wonder how are things going on Edolas.
-
The cats send energy for the spirit bomb, did they move to this reality?
-
Why shonen series so against showing romance?
They tits, blood, punches, etc. but having the main character kiss his girl is off limits?
-
Fairy Tail highs like much of shounen lies in the beginning.
Mashima is best when hes writing character dynamics and interracting off each other. He is also equally good at creating excitement at the start. It is very unfortunate that this has to happen because he refuses to leave the comforts of his writing or strive to better himself as a writer. When he realized that pandering and typical use of shounen tropes was enough to bring him money, he has no longer cared about his story breaking new grounds or giving his characters depth or changes that would jeopardize his pay check. He has potential but that doesnt matter because he has no drive to grow or better his story. That's sad.
-
Mashima isn't good at anything except from copying other series, and their elements. I don't know why people pretend that FT was anything other than a garbage series right from the beginning. There were never any real quality parts in the series especially not in terms of characters, and it only got worst.
The dude is a complete hack, and it's a wonder just how he has managed to survive in this industry so far.
-
I wonder how many people on this forum were still reading FT un-ironically though.
-
Fairy Tail? I knew it was shit since Fighting Festival.
You say Bleach was good for 1/3rd of it's run, proceding to state that you knew FT was shit since FF. Which started well past the 1/3rd mark (chapter 256 = post Time-Skip, which I'll just use as the starting point for this arc). This was almost halfway through the Manga (46% done), so you seem to think FT had the longer and better run technically.
Fun stuff.
-
Well, I'd tend to agree. Bleach started going downhill (and fast) with the Hueco Mundo arc. The Arrancar Invasion of Karakura town was still ok, although not as good as the Soul Society arc. If the story had taken a better turn after that, it would be remembered as a nice transition arc. Since it took a turn for worse, it was the transition to crap.
Fairy Tail was a fun series that made sense and seemed to have some progression until Tenrou Island, which is almost the halfway point of the series. Everything since that timeskip was just absolutely awful though.
-
I think i said it before but Tenrou island was THE turning point when Mashima unwillingness and cop out really start to shine. The first half of the entire arc was great and had potential before going to shit fast and that became the norm. You knew it was at that point he started pulling shit out of ass.

Lets keep in mind that to be disappointed you first have to have expectations. At the minimal, fairy tail set some pretty good expectations that everyone in this thread had at least once or twice.
If not i cant fathom why you would keep reading it. But hey maybe you are a complete cynic and i am wrong.Trust me I hate Mashima as a writer and loath what Ft turned into to. But you cannot forget that Fairy Tail had some good moments here and there. Its not original but Mashima did a number of things right despite "copying".

Mashima has unquestionably good work-ethic, draws amazingly efficiently and his art is always on point. It's not the best style, it's not the most original style, but it's always at the level it needs to be and almost never dips in quality.
You can argue against his stories, his writing, his characters, his designs. But not his artistic consistency and work ethic. In that respect, he's a top tier mangaka, and that's perhaps the only reason he's survived in the industry despite everything.
Now if only Togashi had Mashima's work ethic and drawing consistency…. ah what a good world it would be.
