Two new One Piece games revealed. Two new One Piece games are in development, the latest issue of Weekly Jump reveals. One is a PlayStation VR-exclusive title called One Piece: Grand Cruise, and the other is a still untitled One Piece game code-named “Dawn.”
Get the information on each title below.
One Piece: Grand Cruise (PlayStation VR)
The game’s genre, release date, and price have yet to be announced.
The game’s content is also yet to be announced, but screenshots in the magazine show exploration of a ship. This is only a guess, but perhaps it is a game where you interact with your crewmates?
A special demo of the game will be playable by up to eight users at once at the “Tokyo One Piece Tower” event in Tokyo Tower on July 22.Unprecedented One Piece Game (Platforms Unknown)
The game is code-named “Dawn” and is being developed in collaboration between Shueisha, Toei Animation, and Bandai Namco.
It is an “unprecedented One Piece game.” (In other words, it has not been done before.)
It is a game with an unheard of, super new feeling.
The original author, Eiichiro Oda, is cooperating on development.
Planning and conception is taking quite some time.
It’s an enormous game. The setting and music from the anime are being poured into the game. Thanks, Ryokutya2089

Going by what they said I imagine CC is the developer for the second game, they said they have several large projects.
-
Sorry if this is a dumb question, what is CC? What other games have they done? I tried looking them up but I didn't find anything that seemed relevant.

I think he's talking about Cyberconnect2. They made the Naruto Ultimate Ninja games and the two recent JJBA battle games.

Ah ok, that makes sense I should've thought of that. Thanks. Never played those games before, I know their games look amazing but idk if they're fun to play.

I've played the Ultimate Ninja games. My personal opinion is that the PS2 Ultimate Ninja games are some of the most fun Naruto games ever for casual play. Very fast-paced until someone lands a super move and both players get a bit of time to chill out and recollect themselves.
I played a bit of the Storm games but they didn't feel as fun. There were less available combos/techniques per character and something about it just felt slower than the 2D-ish games.Of course, the real reason I loved those games was because it was a ton of fun trying to connect the super cinematic ultimate moves. That said, the way the game is being described, I don't think it's going to be a simple anime fighter. I have no idea what to expect.
-
As a lover and possessor of the PSVR I couldn't be more excited! Even if it turns out to be just a "explore the Sunny with Mugiwaras on board" it would be unique and uncomparable!
I've got my expectations really high even for the other game, expecting it to be for PS4, I'd love both the long awaited MMO or the well done fighting game. I don't know if it's done by CC2 (they would have told it), but if it is I couldn't be happier since I think they are one of the best studios of the last decade and they already proved they can make great games with Storm series, which (especially the first one) was a revolution for 3D fighting games.

The 2nd game, the one Oda himself is working on, is probably the rumored open world, AAA action-adventure game (with some RPG elements) One Piece game that has been hinted at and rumored for about a year to a year and a half now.

Would that be similar to the Unlimited series? Cause if it is, I'd be fully onboard with the idea.

Yeah, in the excitement of the news I totally forgot that, plus CC2 was working on a open world anime game since a lot of time. Such a big One Piece game is what I dreamt of for the last 15 years, can't wait to have more news.

The way Nakajima-san, a game director over at Bandai Namco, made it sound when interviewed about what type of One Piece game he would like to develop that it would be in the vain of something like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Witcher 3, Skyrim, Horizon: Zero Dawn etc. etc. (This game has worked on past One Piece games, and other games not One Piece related; AAA games).
Like a standard, AAA action-adventure open world game that you see being made nowadays; something a One Piece game hasn't done to date so far (today's announcement makes it sound like they are doing something entirely new, which this open world formula would be), and something people have wanted for quite some time for a game set in the One Piece universe.
Side note: They said they want to utilize the strong software of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 to it's fullest, something past One Piece games haven't really done either. In that interview with Koji Nakajima and Hiroyuki Kaneko from Bandai Namco.
-
They say it's not it been done before so I doubt it is CC. The implication here is a new genre so not a fighting game, platform we, RPG, beat-em up, baseball, strategy game. My money is on an MMO. Those are big ATM in the east.

Exactly what the market wants right now, and even for all the hints you reported the most probable one.
Such a game would be really interesting, especially if we get to explore islands never seen before and designed by Oda himself. I think they would neither pass on the possibility to make this a cooperative game, given One Piece's "nakama" core and nowadays online relevance. An MMO would be perfect, but I think it's unlikely due to the costs and the big need of investments to produce it and keep it going. So I think something as seen in Anthem or Destiny, where you can join a limited number of friends during missions, will be what they'll do. -

That sounds fantastic! Even if I can't imagine how that would handle, I'm pretty excited to see a One Piece game in that style.
Just the thought of an open world environment to explore…Hmm...How much ocean should there be in a game like that though? The sea is a pretty big part of One Piece and it'd be cool to explore it on your own, but there's the risk of boring sailing if not handled well.
If everything were put in a single continent then...I guess it could work, but it'd lack that little something...

A triple A One Piece game? sign me up
-
I've been waiting for such an announcement, let's hope the games don't disappoint. I bought Pirate Warriors 3 last month and I've been enjoying it, but I've really been itching for a well made action/adventure One Piece game, the franchise definitely has the potential to give us something great if they pour enough time and effort into its development.
-
the new dragon ball game looks absolutely beautiful, i wouldn't mind something like that for one piece.
a proper action rpg would be great too.
or something like assassin's creed black flag. best pirate game so far for me.
-
One Piece Monster Hunter? Straw Hats arrived at an island filled with big weird creatures?
A Roronoa Zoro prequel action game set before he met Luffy developed by Platinum games?
One Piece Dark Souls?
You know what? Since this is Bandai Namco, I always dreamed of a Tales of One Piece game. The skit/chat system fits well for OP characters' interactions and Linear Motion Battle System is one of my favorite JRPG battle systems of all time.

Yo, hold on. I've never heard of this rumor.
-
Cautiously optimistic about the unnamed game sounds like it's off to a good start though having Oda involved with it.
and I don't care for VR in general though it's still pretty neat to have a One Piece VR game
-

Yo, hold on. I've never heard of this rumor.
I've never heard this rumor myself, but I think it might have originated from this interview http://www.siliconera.com/2016/03/25/one-piece-burning-blood-director-luffys-gear-four-form-setting-game-marineford-arc/
@Koji:So currently since I’m still working on*One Piece: Burning Blood, there’s no specific plan for the next title but what I personally think is that with the PS4 and Xbox One we have powerful hardware and also I personally like open world games. This might be a good candidate for One Piece where Luffy takes his own boat and go on his own adventure in an open world so that could be interesting!
-
I'm so ecstatic to get SOME announcement on a new OP game project. They had to be working on something BIG if we haven't received news on a new game all year.
The biggest tidbits that have me intrigued are "unprecedented", "a super new feeling", Oda's involvement, and the game being "enormous"It sounds like an open-world game, but it could very well be an MMO as well.
But I've got to keep my expectations in check since this is Bandai Namco and I've rarely seen them put a ton of development time for an anime-licensed game. Let alone a potential AAA game.
I don't want to fall for the hype and end up getting disappointed again. -
I still waiting for One Piece Burning Blood 2. These two new One Piece games are basically a celebration of the One Piece 20th anniversary.
-
Well, for sure it won't be as boring as a musou.
I think even Burning Blood doesn't have great mechanics, even though is still acceptable and has his own good things. -
I'm so glad that this won't be a sequel. I wasn't really about Burning Blood or Unlimited World Red, and I'm not in the mood for more Warriors gameplay. Excited to see what they come up with!!
-
The only thing that worries me about an the MMO idea is that it might bomb like Dragon Ball Online.
-
Don't care about a VR game since have 0 interest in picking one of those up until it's dirt cheap. Honestly surprised it's coming since it felt everyone else including Sony had abandoned that ship now.
AAA Open world game? Sure. Put it on the switch and give us a new handheld I'm happy with that. Probably would pick it up either way.
-

I know it could seem really strange, but it's quite the opposite. VR (especially PSVR) is selling pretty well and a lot of important studios are jumping in it (Insomniac, Capcom, Square Enix, Santa Monica, Super Massive, Namco Bandai and many others). Problem is people don't know about it because it's difficult to advertize it properly, usual user doesn't know how much contents it does offer because he hasn't the means to know it.
Who has never tried it isn't gonna understand how much revolutionary it is just looking at a video.AAA Open world game? Sure. Put it on the switch and give us a new handheld I'm happy with that. Probably would pick it up either way.
On the contrary (even here :ninja:) I think putting an ambitious game on Switch would be a loss of resources and maybe time (it won't be if it sells well). Switch is at least one generation behind, having to work on it when you want to do something big would put a brake on the project, and a ported version would anyway be greatly cut compared to the hypothetical PS4 one.
-
THIS IS BIG NEWS!
-
I would love a game that really let's you explore the one piece world. Like take the other 6 routes along the grand line and stuff like that. If oda is involved it might not be too much to dream of.
-
-
:blink:UNPRECEDENTED:blink:
I'm looking forward to having a game with all the Big Mom Pirates and most, if not all, of the Beast Pirates in some capacity(not all playable of course). I wonder how much of Wano will be finished by the time the game comes out.
-
I really hope it's gonna come out in pc Aswell
And open world one piece game is the dream game for me–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also why companies don't spend money to make triple a games from long aime series it saves the time and money to find a fan base and base story and world
-
I really hope they don't only do it VR compatible but also regular, i hate vr so i hope to be able to play it and that this one is interesting!
-
Some more details on Project Dawn:
The game will feature the talents of One Piece anime producer Hiroki Koyama from Toei Animation, One Piece media supervisor Suguru Sugita from Shueisha, One Piece game supervisor Yuji Suzuki from Shueisha, and One Piece game producer Kōji Nakajima from Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Shueisha will reveal more news about the game in Weekly Shonen Jump, V Jump, and on One Piece's official website. -
Also why companies don't spend money to make triple a games from long aime series it saves the time and money to find a fan base and base story and world
Because Japanese gamers don't expect much out of game development like gamers in America and Europe. They also don't play games that much on consoles of PC like we do unless it's a DragonQuest or Final Fantasy title.
-
It looks like they might be reusing assets from Burning Blood for Grand Cruise.
-
Dawn :-
-
I'm surprised no discussing EMUNOPLA's link. It has lots of good information, especially telling you who's part of every One Piece game. I don't think many One Piece fans or people in general outside of Japan know who Koji Nakajima is.
Suzuki Yuji: Says the game will be something fans always wanted. Open world game comes to mind. I think most fans want a MMORPG game because it will last longer.
Koji Nakajima: Says they have been planning this game for a long time and can't wait to show fans all around the world. I wonder if they planned this before or during the One Piece Pirate Warriors series and worldwide localization is pretty much confirmed here.
Sugita Suguru: Says he's happy to work with Oda on this game based on the characters and settings. This might be introducing new characters and islands similar to One Piece Unlimited games.
Koyama Hiroki: Says the game will take influence from the anime and its music. He also says they will put lots of effort making the game even better than One Piece movies. It seems like they will not follow the manga, which is good for anime only watchers, casual fans, and possibility a dub version. Since Koyama Hiroki said this game will be better than the One Piece movies, it makes me believe this game will have huge story focus similar to Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games.

New translated scan for One Piece:Grand Cruise by Shonengamez-

I hope Oda involvement is due to the game including a lot of islands and powers never seen before, not just some side characters as in Red. That would also imply this is going to be an open world game, which I think is what everyone is hoping for. I can't stand another boring musou or a really bad fighting game, it's time for One Piece to live through huge projects.
Grand Cruise also excites me a lot, I can't wait to be side by side with all of the crew. If it will sell well it could even be a start for a new whole VR saga, possibilities with VR are just infinite.
-
Sooo what happened to this
-
This post is deleted!

I've found some seconds of Grand Cruise captured off-screen:
I think it's sure it will be a short experience lived all aboard the Sunny. I can't wait for it and hope they will release it outside Japan too.
-
It actually looks really cool
-
I didn't expect any interest for the VR game because I don't see many people talking about it and the repetition for any VR game. Same goes for me to be honest. I'm more interesting in the new console game if it gets my attention.
I didn't bother posting this, but Famitsu and 4gamer posted information last month if anyone still cares to look.

Thanks, sadly I can't understand what's written in it but this image got me excited. Being used to VR I can't wait to feel like being in there and feeling their presence, it will be like a dream coming true (or better, more vivid) and a step toward something even greater.
I know that the other game is going to be the big thing, but this is a unique and different experience. -
I just came back from Tokyo One Piece Tower where I tried the VR game. Here are some thoughts:
- We were 8 players at the time, one member of the staff conducted the game.
- You first get to choose your gender.
- The PS VR is bad, but the feeling of being in the Sunny is amazing.
- You get to choose if you want to see the Ladies' room or Sanji's kitchen. I chose the kitchen, there was a lot of food on the table.
- Up until now we were all in the same spot, now a multiplayer game started. We were divided in 2 teams.
- Some marine ships appeared and started shooting cannonballs at the Sunny. We got some cannons, so we had to shoot the cannonballs down with ours.
- Then a giant one appeared and we got to choose if we wanted Sanji or Zoro to stop it.
- When it was over Usopp announced the winning team and Zoro announced the MVP.
- Did not expect it to be that much fun.
- We didn't move an inch, we got changes of scenes but no walking.
- Some textures were a bit off when I got closer, like the grass on the ground or the strawhats clothes.
- The staff that conducted the game was talking in the game via Transponder Snail, so maybe that's how we get the narration ingame.
- The story was of us doing some pirate practices in the Sunny.
- The models are from Burning Blood
I was amazed when it started and I felt like being on the Sunny, shooting the cannon was fun too. If the game is making tours and playing minigames it could be fun. But I think that's all it can offer.
Not bad, very cool experience, worth the 60 minutes wait.
-
As impatient as this sounds, I just really want to know more about the other game already. I wanna find out if it's what all we think/hope it is or if it's just more boring poop.
-
Bandai Namco probably saving Project Dawn for Tokyo Game Show.
