Chrom and Ryoma, the voices make it too perfect not to pick.

Lots of characters I don't care about. Pass.
Meanwhile, played more of FE6
! Sue and Fir are goddamn amazing. I don't think either has gotten hit since I promoted them, it's kinda ridiculous.

The funny thing is, they're both Sacaean and can support the same person (Shin), but they themselves can't support.
Fir would enjoy Sue's wind affinity.up to 4-3 of RD

4-p was a simple rout, nothing too fancy. Sanaki's low strength cripples her tome speed, but her special tome hit hard enough for Danvad and Calil to pick off the scraps for EXP. Right now Calil is third tier, but the other one…nah. Kieran was used too, and of course he can't double for shit. Neasala is op.
Haar, Jill, and Neph continue to carry.4-1 was a lot more interesting due to fog of war + defending Ena. Ike in tier 3 pretty much breaks the game lol, he's sooo good. Mia, Shinon, and Titania held the line, Marcia and Makalov picked up some levels....and Naliah is your win button.
4-2 was a slog, because my Tibarn team is arguably the weakest of the three. Ulki and Nealuchi are laguz/10, Boyd isn't very fast, Tanith and Lucia aren't super durable, and for some insane reason, the game gives Elincia mercy, one of the worst skills ever.
I was constantly in fear waiting for the enemies to move, but the ones near Valtome didn't. I HATE when Fire Emblem pulls this crap; newer games give you the luxury of telling you which ones don't move.
Also, Tibarn kept going back and forth to kill the annoying straggler reinforcements. Did I mention all three of these were routs? So 4-3 is a desert, which means Kieran and Danvad are going to be more useless than they already are. Haar, Jill, and Naesala are gonna do a LOT of work. At least Calil can heal now.
Endgame wise, I think I've mapped it out: Soren, Shinon, Mia, [refresher], Neph, Haar, Jill, [Tibarn or Nailah], [other unit][/hide]

I'd like to give a shoutout to Echoes for making Mercy a skill that you have to actually select and not something that just happens all the time forever
-
I'd like to give a shoutout to Echoes for making Mercy a skill that you have to actually select and not something that just happens all the time forever
That's the hiliarous part. She procced it once, I was like "oh okay, special skill?", then she KEPT proccing it, which made me change.
Elincia is one of your best units in part 2, but in part 4, she really needs to kill things to catch back up. I might bring her because she's a healer w/ canto and rescue.
-
Spontaneously giving Elincia Mercy in Part 4 is part of the RD shitlist.

Well…..it's endgame time. Before:
[hide]
The desert chapter ended up being more trouble than it was worth. Jill/Haar/Naesala put in work, but Calil, Nolan, and Skrimir took on some enemies to the right. Micaiah and Sanaki were potent attackers, just they could not get hit by anything.
The nonstop warp reinforcements were a treat, thanks Radiant Dawn. Danved got killed because he and Kieran were lounging around the start eating sleep charges. Poor Oscar lost a lot of EXP trying to get somewhere.Next up is Oliver's mansion. If you thought the last chapter is tedious, this one is EVEN WORSE with the obnoxious reinforcements. Burned lots of turns camping Ike near the ledge to pick them off. Had to promote Makalov just he'd be somewhat less useless. Tormad, Muarim, and Vika were useless.
And finally, we go to the worst map in part 4 (imo) - Izuka. Everyone else at the start was either not fast enough to double OR could only take two hits, except for….Tibarn and Volke. Seriously, Tibarn solo'd 75% of the map and I was trying just to rush him to the boss. But this is RD, so Izuka gets to spawn feral ones to block range and use Rewarp to run away. After seven turns, I finally got to a point where Boyd was able to kill a spawn, leaving Tibarn to utterly destroy Izuka.
So we're at the tower, and I spend a good amount of time handing out weapons and equipping the best skills. And lucky for me, the refresher is not included in the 10 choices, so I had a spare....but I didn't know until AFTER the skill doling, so I picked another royal.
Ike
Micaiah
Sothe
Ena
Kurth
Sanaki
Mia
Shinon
Soren
Haar
Jill
Nephenee
Elincia
Tibarn
Nailah
Reyson
CaineghisSothe is by far the worst of the bunch, due to his late promotion. Haar-Neph, Shinon-Mia, and Ike-Soren all have a support. Elincia has Savior/Pass/healing equipment to be a support unit. Neph and Jill have Wrath. Mia has Cancel, Vantage, and Resolve. Sanaki has Stilness. Soren has Shade and Adept. Haar has Adept too. Shinon has Nullify and Daunt. Nailah has Nihil.[/hide]

You didn't get Stefan, did you?

@Cyan:
You didn't get Stefan, did you?
hahahaha no. Sadly I didn't find out where you stand until AFTER I beat the chapter. And missed out on Dragonfoe.

you did recruit Oliver, didn't you?
-
hahahaha no. Sadly I didn't find out where you stand until AFTER I beat the chapter. And missed out on Dragonfoe.
Then you probably missed out on the SS knife (also known as the only thing worth giving to Sothe) and the Laguz Gem.
The fact that 4-3 is a Micaiah chapter is bad enough, the fact that it's probably the largest desert map in the series (with all that implies) makes it ungodly.

Took a break at endgame part 3.
[hide]
Part 1 was general central, meaning some of them did not die in one round (Ike exactly one-rounded all of them, lol). Ena and Kurth kinda just hung around while Haar/Tibarn took on the left while Jill took the right, and the center was the others.
Lekain, despite the game not telling you, had the power to silence EVERYONE at once, meaning Soren and Micaiah spend most of the time doing nothing. Map continued the part 4 trend of annoying warp reinforcements, on the ROUT map.Hetzel only has staves so he's a goner, but Lekain pulled an Izuka and kept running away with Rewarp. Once he came back to his spawn point, Tibarn kicked his ass. Wanted him to anyways, since they had a great battle convo. That's for the herons, asshole.
Part 2 reveals the truth - Zelgius is the Black Knight. I liked both characters in the role they played in the story, but I can't say I'm super satifised in making them the same person. I can understand he wanted to see if had surpassed his master, but killing Greil just felt superfluous in the grand scheme of things. The dude threatened to kill Mist back in PoR in his duel with Ike. Sure he's Branded, and suffered a lot, but….and warp powder aside, I can't really buy him having THAT much free time he can swap between being a rider for Daein AND head of the Begnion Central Army at the same fucking time.
Anyways....map has unlimited reinforcements, so Haar/Neph/Jill/Mia/Shinon/Soren picked up a few levels. For lulz, I sniped the boss to death with siege tomes thanks to Sanaki and Micaiah.
BK himself is an even match for Ike, you have to make sure you outdamage him or you either have to bank on crits or get locked in a heal loop. He actually procced a few 5% crits, which was scary, but after some turns, he's dead. And NOW we're in dragon hell. I learned that Yune's blessing doesn't up might, but it DOES make a weapon unbreakable and possible to hurt the Dragon King. So obviously choices are Brave Axe for Haar and Wyrmslayer for Mia, who also got to keep Zelgius's toy, Alondite. The problem is, dragons are SUPER bulky and not all of them target defense. I actually can get Ike to the boss on turn 1, but with the Wyrmslayer he only does 40 out of 100 HP. He and Naliah are really the only ones that can take him on safetly, since they have Nihil.
Also don't want to kill Nasir if I can help it. Kurth can get levels off the dragons since they don't attack him, and Ena's support skills are godly.[/hide]
-
IntSys very clearly wanted to make a sequel to PoR, which is why they left so much shit hanging.
Problem was that they didn't really seem to think through how their sequel hooks would play out. Notably I don't think Sephiran's weird speech at the end of PoR ever actually comes into play thematically in RD.
-
he tells Ike that the Goddess will ride with him or some shit like that and RD turns that into him just giving Ike a straight death threat that only Sephiran understands
so i can appreciate S-rank japes like that at least -
he tells Ike that the Goddess will ride with him or some shit like that
Well, she rode Great Aether straight to hell so I guess it worked out in the end.

For those curious, a new gameplay trailer for Warriors will be coming this week. My guess will be the reveal of the two characters the premium box accidentally spoiled.
! Robin and Lissa, for those who are curious

Up to part 4.
[hide]
So I had to reset a few times for the dragon map, because wrong formations kept getting someone killed on turn 2. I basicially had to knuckle down and let the moving dragons come to me first. And of course there are reinforcements, so Tibarn and Caineghis had to camp out a bit.The most obnoxious thing is that once again, the ranges do not tell you which dragons actually move, so I ended up being too cautious.
Sothe was utterly useless in every sense of the word, and while her Elthunder did wonders, Sanaki's HP was too low to eat a hit in return.FINALLY, a path was carved to the boss, and I wasn't gonna take risks. Nihil!Ike was refreshed with the Wyrmslayer, so he did 80 points of damage, leaving Tibarn to finish up. Everyone else was either too far or couldn't do any damage.
And we get Nasir+Gareth, making Ena and Kurth redundant. Although having two Tide users is great. And now I see you can still apply BEXP. Atm Mia, Haar, Jill, and Neph have capped three stats.[/hide]

The first cutscene will be Chrom being deeply disoriented after learning he can move in more than four directions.

it'll be like good ol' D&D where you move only in diagonals to achieve maximum distance

In the Akaneia series, it's called a few different things. "The Shield of Seals" and "Crest of Flames" in the originals, then the "Pedestal of Flames" in Awakening.

Up to drum roll the final boss of RD.
[hide]
Sephiran's map was almost like a puzzle. I had to place everyone on Ward tiles to miminize damage, and as I made my way closer, I had to push/kill the four spirits around him in order to kill him. The game doesn't tell you this, but I knew from the LP Archive.
Clenched myself praying he didn't crit or Corona anyone, and it worked out well. Once again (lol), Tibarn finished the job. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if he makes top five. But the spirits were still assholes, and two of them warped over to ""kill"" Sothe. He's plot important so he can't die, so it wasn't worth restarting for. Dude is just dead weight. Ena does more than him.
Doled out the last of my BEXP, and with Nasir and Gareth it's time to beat this game. I know Ashera throws a lot of bullshit at you, and she has to be kiled by Ike to win, so half the struggle is getting there.
Who will make top five? Tune in next time.(also I plan to note who caps what)[/hide]

Did I just not listen to him much in Awakening or has that Frederick got a new voice actor? :/

No, it's still Kyle Hebert. Reprises the role in both of his Heroes slots too.

Really? Wow, I have a terrible ear for these things >.<. I thought Chrom and Lucina sounded the same but the internet is vague on whether that's Laura Bailey or not. :/

I think it's Alexis Tipton. Something about Laura's union being on strike?
Yeah that was something I saw come up during my cursory googling. But I don't know too much about voice actorly things outside of watching Critical Role so I'm pretty out of the loop
Although to be fair I only know Laura was Lucina cause I looked it up for whatever reason. My radar for her is basically: if it sounds like Rise Kujikawa (i.e. pretty close to her everyday voice) then it's her :P.
Otherwise I'm lost. -

Otherwise I'm lost.Hahahaha! I've seen that role mentioned, apparently the replacement isn't as good?
Bailey has voiced Lucina for a significant amount of time - Awakening, Smash 4, Codename Steam, Project X Zone 2, first round of Heroes - so I'm glad there's a very-convincing soundalike to take up the role. I believe Tipton is her understudy; she even took over the role of Kid Trunks for Dragon Ball Super.
-
Hahahaha! I've seen that role mentioned, apparently the replacement isn't as good?
Hahaha, I'm definitely the wrong person to be commenting on that :P. I mean, she was replaced for a rhythm game spin-off from a game that had already had something like 3 different spin-offs in a few different genres so it wasn't like it was a massive deal. And tbf from what I remember of what little I played of the game the replacement wasn't bad. But the game Rise's from is one of those that leans heavily on the character interaction/romance type stuff and so, at least for me, the way Laura voiced the character was a big part of her charm (which has a weird meta layer added to it when you listen to Laura talking normally and sometimes sounding like the character both in the sound of her voice and in…idk the way she responds I guess? hard to explain). So anyway, objectively evaluating her replacement's performance is kinda hard, at least for strange fan boys like me
Anyway getting back on topic to avoid getting booted to the Persona thread :ninja: it's good that her replacement is apparently her understudy who seemingly does a pretty good Lucina. But then we've established I'm terrible with voice actors so I don't even know if I'd notice either way :/
-
That means she's just that good you can't tell the difference ;)
-
Hahaha but I couldn't even tell that Frederick's VA was the same! For all I know they could've swapped Mercer and Bailey and I'd be sat here feeling happy that there'd be no changes in the cast

Wait, Project x Zone 2 was dubbed in english?
looks up
okay, maybe not.Anyways:
[hide]Ashera's fight is a gigantic pain if you don't have a heads up. You have to kill the auras surrounding her first, and I foolishly tried to kill all of them on the same turn. No no, the correct way is to concentrate your guys and take down 2-3 per turn, since they have 90 HP, can reflect damage back, and restore heal each turn.Reyson got the Laguz gem to get just enough stats to avoid being killed by Ashera's physical attack. Yes, she has a physical map attack and a magical map attack, both of which the game, again, does not warn you about.
Gareth was benched for Kurth because while his HP was beastly, his speed was too low.So the winning strat went like this: Micaiah used Fortify to make sure everyone had max health before the end of the turn, with Elincia using Hammerne when it got low. Because I blessed crap weapons for Mia and Neph, they were in charge of hunting spirits, leaving Ike, Shinon, Tibarn, Caineghis, Haar, and Jill to kill the auras. (Soren and Sanaki kept missing)
Without Nasir, this would've been hell, because he buffs speed and skill, which Ike and Caineghis needed to double the auras. Ena buffs strength and I think res?, which doesn't hurt either. So when the auras are down and you off Ashera, she revives, and you have to finish it with Ike. To ensure the final blow with hit, I had Ike adjacent to both dragons, and in range of Soren's support. ~51 chance, but it was a double and I had Reyson as a backup. GG Ashera. :)
Holy crap, did I like this game. I think gameplay wise, RD was a step up from PoR with third tiers and skill assignments (really cool stuff), although it seemed to be at the cost of having some near Revelations unit balance. Still, 70% of the cast is viable.
Story wise I'd say I prefer PoR's; RD trips over itself with the sudden transition into part 3, the blood pacts, and Lehran being the apparant mastermind of everything. Undermines how memorable and fierce Ashnard was. But it still gets you invested most of the time.I intend to play through it on hard mode with data transfer, to unlock all of the secret convos…...when I get to it. Right now I'm playing FE6 again (and still need to beat Thabes in Echoes!), and probably a replay of Conquest or SD will come after. Then there's the second run of PoR I want to do.
Still, worth every penny.Top 5 wins this time:
5: Mia
4: Jill
3: Nephenee
2: Tibarn
1: Ike[/hide]and Jill is HANDS down my fav character from Tellius.
