So here's something new, Doug and Rob's (or at least Doug's) initial reactions upon watching Balto for the first time
Amazing how much of it made it into the final script.

Well, it's been a while, but Todd finally does another Top 10 Worst Hit Songs from a given year. This time it's 1991
EDIT: D'oh! This is actually a re-upload of a two-year-old video. Oh well, you can still watch it anyway.

Uh, hate to break it to you, but that video is about 2 years old.

Love Todd, but I still give this video (and him) such a stink eye for him putting ANY Whitney Houston song on a worse spot than Rico fucking Suave

He's been toned down for years, same as Nostalgia critic. They just ran out of ways to pretend to be angry and yell at the camera and slowly moved over to more analytical reviews. Neither of them have done their classic style rants in a long time. Similarly Linkara doesn't get to say "this comic sucks" and then actually burn them much anymore, i think a Frank Miller book was the last time he went that far. Or Lindsay moving from the Nostalgia Chick comedy routine to just doing her own thing. Even Angry Joe is very rarely actually angry. (I'd add Spoony to the list but he doesn't even make videos anymore.)
What's going to happen after like 10 years.
Just look at me and Arlong Park. I don't play the crazy over the top fop nearly as well as I used to.

The Angry Video Game Nerd teams up with Incognito Cinema Warriors XP to riff Super Mario Odyssey:
I also started a discussion to ICWXP in an official thread made a while ago. It can be found here if you guys want to continue discussion on all things ICWXP/IGWXP. -
I prefer these types of videos; the reviews tend to get tripped up by the skits.

Armoured Skeptic did a review of Bill Nye Saves the World.

It took me all of two seconds to figure this was some vaguely alt-right wierdo before actually confirming it elsewhere.

Is everyone Alt-Right now? :/
He gave the show a largely positive review… I'm not sure what you even mean by Alt-Right, those people usually hate Bill.

Just out of curiosity I opened that video on Youtube; the comments and related videos are nothing but people whining about SJWs and liberals with a gratuitous reference to Jews thrown into the title of some of the videos.
So, yeah, alt-right.

I see a wall of other videos reviewing/talking about Bill Nye vs The World, with a single weird video called "Bill Nye the Jewish Guy". Many of them do look right-leaning, but if you do a search for "Bill Nye" videos within the last week, it's easy to see why. Almost every video talking about Bill Nye at all this week is from someone on the right.
Considering Bill Nye's importance to the March For Science, I've been very disappointed in the lack of coverage there.

Pfff, if you think Armoured Skeptic is alt right, you're badly mistaken. Can't blame you though, it's a little complicated when it comes to groups that are generally against today's left wing.
First off, lets get things straight. Alt-Right is based on 4chan's /pol/. They like memes, they're basically Neo-Nazis with a love for memes. Antisemite, anti-islam, right wing, anti-pc, darkest sense of humour imaginable, adore Trump no matter what he does, want to see all of the left crash and burn, hate the EU, many are against the government having real powers, anti-feminist, many are anti-gay, and crucially, they actually believe in genetic race supremacy. To give you a very basic idea of what alt-right means, lets just say that Milo Yiannopoulis is the least extreme version of an alt-right person possible. He only barely qualifies, and isn't actually recognied by most of those within the alt-right as being part of the group, because of his Jewish Heritage and generally sensible (not full on racist) attitude to matters of race.
You then have the Skeptic community. Now I'll admit, there's some overlap. Anti-feminist, anti Islam, anti-democratic party. But the reasoning in the skeptic community is quite different. By skeptics I mean anyone from Sargon of Akkad to Armoured Skeptic to Dave Roubin to even Secular talk.
The Skeptics, at their core, are free speech warriors. That's what it comes down to. Their politics vary wildly, but I think most consider themselves to be classical liberals. Ie. They argue from a position that values the principles of freedom above the outcomes of equality, because a free society is more desirable than a equal one. So the Skeptics, despite their aversion for anything that infringes of social freedoms, can be and are left wing, with some right wing exceptions. You won't hear any of the Skeptic community advocating race supremacy, or hating jewish people. You hear a lot of anti-islam rhetoric because Islam and islamic actors are generally against western classical liberal values. Sharia doesn't comply with them, nor does much of the Quran. Some go further, some go less, but most want to see Islamic reform to ensure this is no longer the case. They have a similar disdain for all Christian fundamentalists.
They also hate quotas, for being discriminatory. They dislike feminism in its current form, for expanding past equality of opportunity into equality of outcomes, and for arguing the repressing of free speech. Same goes for the left as it is today. The Dems are hated for their corporate money donors, and for treating minorities with a racism of low expectations type attitude. And, surprise surprise, they hate the alt right.
I guess you could see the Skeptics as generally agreeing with the left's ideals, but wanting to reform things to be more classically liberal. They like the idea of feminism, but wish it didn't have authoritarian and discriminatory elements. They generally think the right is too retarded to even bother with. Skeptic used to mock right wing christians until he turned his eyes to politics for example. Sargon sent gay porn to the alt-right on twitter (and got banned) because the alt right were being anti-gay.
To put them all under the same brush because they disagree with your left wing views is simply not intellectually honest. One is trying to argue with you online in a civilised way, the other wants to ddos you because it's funny and they hate you. You can claim to dislike the skeptic community if you want, but don't call them Alt-Right, they're clearly not.
Skeptic in particular is most certainly not alt-right. He doesn't even fit in the same bubble as Sargon because he's so tame with his anti-progressive left views compared to everyone else in the group.
Also, the skeptics and the alt-right hate eachothers guts.
So yeah, that's your internet community lesson for the day.

Dude. I literally just told you the Skeptics are generally left wing. Not your type of left, perhaps, but certainly not 'right wing dipshits'. Alt-right is such a fucking heavy term, since they're actual internet neo-nazis fuelled by conspiracy theories. Is it really so hard to be mildly respectful of groups you disagree with on some, relatively minor, issues? Or is all you care about feminism, islam, BLM, multinational trade deals and quotas? Because you know, most skeptics want free healthcare, free education, gay marriage, higher taxes on the rich, lower taxes on the poor, less warmongering in the middle east… these are issues we all agree on. The alt-right on the other hand... are economically libertarian neo-nazis blindly following 'God Emperor Trump' for top kek.

The absolute most generous thing that can be said for people claiming this bullshit describes them, is that they're naive morons who enable uber-conservatives to come to power and do none of those things if not the literal opposite.
Or the more realistic option proven true quite quickly in reality this past year, that they don't give a flying fuck about any of those things and are the same bunch of chest thumping cavemen as the rural redneck conservatives they all desperately want to pretend they have nothing in common with. See they're TOTALLY different because they dress it up in adolescent intellectual nonsense that looks to non-gullible people like what it really is, grown manbabies of no particular skill or knowledge making South Park diatribes from their apartments.Any accuracy regarding your own character in this work is entirely coincidental.

Oh god, not this again. Can we at least all agree that in practice, the label "skeptic" is so vague that it's nearly useless?
None of this has anything to do with Armoured Skeptic's review of Bill Nye Saves The World, anyway.

Not sure how free healthcare, free education, gay marriage, higher taxes on the rich, lower taxes on the poor, and less warmongering are 'bullshit for naive morons'.
Especially given that most European countries have a pretty good record of pushing these things. The US is pretty much the only place where these ideals are 'naive'. Just because the country sucks at voting sensible people and your districts are all gerrymandered and your president voting system is bollocks…
And yes, Roboblue, the 'skeptic' label is vague and doesn't describe what they stand for. It's just what the community calls itself, probably because of Armoured actually.
-

The problem isn't those goals, it's that they're so "committed" that they'll cheerfully accept absolutely nothing at all rather than partial achievement of them and actively sabotage any moves towards said partial achievement in the interests of ideological purity.
You saw a lot of that in and after the last election; "I mean, sure, Trump has been a spectacular disaster that will set back decades of advancement across the board, but at least Hillary isn't pressing for a twelve dollar an hour minimum wage instead of the fifteen we wanted. "
-
The problem is that Monkey King is convinced that Armoured Skeptic is right wing, won't do any research on the subject and won't provide any evidence to support his claim. Ubiq, you tried to do his work for him, but youtube's "related videos" feature provides only a weak correlation.
Why does any of this even matter, anyway? Linkara's right-wing but the thread doesn't devolve into politics whenever someone posts a Channel Awesome video.
-

I fully agree. Many are hardheaded and have a rather stupid ideological purity test that they apply instead of just balancing the good vs the bad. But even still, the simple fact they hold such strong left wing ideals makes Monkey King's claim that they're all 'alt-right' ludicrous.
More on topic, I've really been enjoying Tamara's never seen show. I know she probably would have nowhere near the audience if it weren't for doug's channel, but the content she's putting out is often much fresher and lively than Nostalgia Critics' somewhat dragged out videos, despite the lower production quality.
-

….Linkara generally talks about comic books and not politics?
And also no one in this thread has posted or talked about a Linkara video in years.

I don't know who any of those people are except Lindsay.

I don't know who any of those people are except Lindsay.
The Pink Hair individual is Contra Point, they talk about gender, trump, feminism and what people would call "social justice warrior" topics. But they used to be part of the Atheist community (like Amazing Athiest). I like their opinion on a lot of things, and they always look pretty fabulous as a cross-dressing/transgender/genderfluid person. They have used all those terms describe themselves.
Other than those two, I'm not familiar with anyone else either.
-
Everyone is acting like this image is the gathering of demons. Or that Lindsay has suddenly gone to the darkside.
What the fuck am I supposed to be offended by? Lindsay has been an open feminist since day one. She's been good friends with Foldable Human for a long time now. Why do we care outside of how much I wish I could be eating at a Disney brunch?
-
Ok, what is supposed to be the problem with this?…EDIT: Ok, Researched it, not really TOO big a deal. Lindsay and a few other people went to a convention/conference of some kind, from what I can summise I think it's VidCon and it's an online video conference that took place in Anaheim recentlyish.
Now that someone has told me who is at the table, I DO recognize one person there. I didn't before because she's kinda from the side.
The girl second to left on the right side is June "ShoeOnHead" Nicole and An Alt-Right crazy person who posts horrible MRA crap on Youtube. It's funny because she claims to be more liberal in some areas and claims to hate Trump, but then goes on to defend everything he says and does including the "Grab them by the pussy" line… I still don't know who the other people are, but from the comments I just saw, at least one other is also an Alt-Righter.
It seems she, and this other person being there and the photo being jovial (aka: Jokingly adversarial) is bad.
The Fact that Lindsay, and really any Liberal person, is sitting at this table with them is being treated like a massive betrayal.... Except it's not if you've ever payed attention to the things Lindsay actually publicly says.
Last year after the Trumpocalypse 2016, she did a video that was basically "
" and the overall tone of the video is basically: "Actually talk to them rather than just calling them racists and throwing mashed potatoes at them".EDIT2: The Other alt-righter at the table is "Armored Skeptic", who according to the internet, started out as just an Atheist posting videos skeptical of Religion, but his rhetoric has devolved into just attacking feminists, SJWs, and the Left in General. Seems to be an Alt-Righter who at least started from the left, maybe more mild, but still spouts their bullshit. Maybe this has something to do with ShoeOnHead being his girlfriend.
-
Oh… um, I forgot (most of?) this forum still hasn't moved past the TGWTG crew. UMMM-
L-R: Brittany (no idea who she is, but based on Twitter ostensibly on the SJW side), sh0eonhead, ArmoredSkeptic (what Demon Rin said) (if you're wondering why his name is familiar, well... check out the previous page in this thread :/), Lindsay, HBomberguy (SomethingAwful goon turned SJW (or at least anti-alt-right)), ContraPoints (what Silver said) and Dan Olson (whose expression prolly best describes mine)
For why this pic caused such a huge storm, basically Contra uploaded this on his Twitter with the caption "The Culture War is real". The (flippant?) tone itself, coupled with the very fact its a jokey scene with two
alt-rightanti-SJW"Rationals" who, AFAICT from some of the angry replies have harassed trans people, has not sit well with their fanbase (especially the non-binary/trans).And yeah, Lindsay has made that Thanksgiving video, HBomberguy claims
and those who also know Contra know he too even tries to 'reach across the aisle' by participating in debates with these guys but well… imagine if someone from the Daily Show (say Samantha Bee) tried to get all chummy with one of the people from Fox News responsible for increasing right-wing hateful rhetoric and contributing to the hyperpartisan nature of US Politics (like say Glenn Beck) and... yeah.
This
probably sums um the backlash better than I can (still mixed on whether I totally agree with it tho)
-
Oh.
Yeah, I'm not mad about that. I get why some people would be, I suppose.
-
Of all the right wing people to reach across the aisle to, the pepe skeptic kek MRA nerd types are the absolute last on my list.
75% of them are moron adult children who don't actually care about politics and issues, and are just engaging in history's most pathetic empty rebellious sub-culture. -
Oh…so this akin to the internet bitching about James Rolfe not wanting to watch the new Ghostbusters again?
(Except with even more obscure internet people I don't know or care about? shrug)
-
Should've picked a better time to introduce Hbomb and Contra who are usually quite dope. :/
-
Looking at the "skeptics", left vs right wing, … discussions here, I feel really weirded out how there seems to be such a strong thinking of a person belonging exclusively in one of those two groups and not leaning in one direction for some issues and in the other for the remaining ones. Then again, I'm from a country (Germany) with a well-established multi-party system with lots of options that focus on specific demographics or political issues, so I guess that's why?
I mean, consider our refugee policy compared to the US and that the alt-right and especially Trump attacked us quite massively for it last year.
And then, in contrast to such a left-leaning policy, you have the fact gay marriage still is not legal in Germany and used to be strongly opposed by Merkel's party if not for very recent pressure by other parties and potential coalition partners that will follow the elections this year. The Fact that Lindsay, and really any Liberal person, is sitting at this table with them is being treated like a massive betrayal…. Except it's not if you've ever payed attention to the things Lindsay actually publicly says.
Last year after the Trumpocalypse 2016, she did a video that was basically "
" and the overall tone of the video is basically: "Actually talk to them rather than just calling them racists and throwing mashed potatoes at them".Exactly. I don't get why people get so worked up about those kind of things anyway in most cases. It's become quite hard with social media and all, but you still have to view the artist and person separately up to a certain degree in my opinion.
-
HBomberguy is really good.
-
EDIT2: The Other alt-righter at the table is "Armored Skeptic", who according to the internet, started out as just an Atheist posting videos skeptical of Religion, but his rhetoric has devolved into just attacking feminists, SJWs, and the Left in General. …No.
I've addressed this before, Armoured Skeptic is clearly not Alt-Right, and the fact that he made videos criticizing a few seriously misguided individuals doesn't really mean anything. All of Youtube has taken shots at Anita Sarkeesian by now.
We really need to stop trying to lazily "expose" people as Alt-Right or SJWs and get back to examining the actual things they've said.
