Oh, so it's not a body suit.
Oh.
Ouch.

Yeah, that… that was an unpleasant surprise.
Kind of adds a new layer of creepy to the whole thing
Samurai Jack is Back and got Tom Kenny to say "penis"

! my mouth dropped when demongo showed up. i thought aku wasted him for good.

So I wasn't hearing things lol at the unexpected Astro cameo.

and the robot that looks like popeye
Dynomutt has fallen on bad times
What a wonderful walk down memory lane this episode was.
Zorak was also in the beginning on the blimp.
After the blood I shouldn't be surprised but was definitely caught off guard by the ..uh..colorful language this ep.
Whoa dang. This episode makes me glad for marathoning the whole show. So many throwbacks.
The rave kids scene really got me. Love that granny headphones is the emcee now~
This may be my favorite episode just for the Demongo appearance alone
I'm curious about who the woman who spoke to Ashi after she left the bar was. The baby?
Wow, tons of continuity in this one.
its kind of what the old show always lacked. It's suuuuper nice to see here.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.
The only other people that make sense are the butterfly Princess or the little girl from the Haunted House episode but it seems like they'd come out and say it was them while holding off on the reveal makes sense for the baby,
The port that Scaramouche went to is the same one that the Scotsman went to in The Scotsman Saves Jack. I'm really glad to see Da Samurai show up, as well as Demongo. I would like for the latter to actually be relevant instead of a throwaway joke, but that's probably unlikely. I'm betting on the silhouette being the baby too.
Now that there is definite proof that continuity actually matters, I can actually look forward to the possibility that the Guardian prophecy will come true.

It was probably Kuni, the little girl from the Haunted House. She's the only one that makes thematic sense (due to the whole offscreen ghost vanishing).

I wouldn't say continuity as much as they were just callbacks to previous episodes. Still nice to see, though.
Until this episode, I never knew that Jack had so many allies since continuity was only for the Scotsman's exception. The more robust language blew me back for a bit, but I quickly rolled with it. Ashi's makeover was fantabulous!

It's continuity if what happened previously impacted the present, which is what's happening. Basically everything he did in S1 happened and allows Jack to be redeemed.

How is it NOT continuity? Something that was once isolated and stand alone is now part of the ongoing narrative. A week ago this very thread was saying "Well, if you want to just jump into the new show, there's only like 3 episodes of the old one that matter."
Granted, the recapped what all these characters were about, but… it is actual tying things together.
Even aside from that, he entire Aki storyline along with Jack's state have absolutely been an actual ongoing story, where what happens in one episode actually matters for the next.
It's actual honest to goodness continuity in Samura Jack and it feels good, like all those random adventures actually had a point, that Jack actually DID accomplish something.
Now I just want "jump good" to come back.
It was Genndy's tribute to all of the fans that have stuck around this long. The idea of all of these people celebrating Jack just makes me feel all good inside. :D
Also the body suit thing. Hardf**kingcore.
What "bodysuit" ; ]
In last week's episode in Jack's pimp suit reveal, Ashi's face looked mighty similar to the princess from SymBionic Titan.

Ashi had Ilana's hair until she changed her style in this episode. I figured she was always supposed to be a tribute, design-wise.
I just realized that since there's a decent chance we'll have a scenario where all of Jack's friends help storm Aku's castle as the Scotsman's new army, then Demongo might actually help out due to how ge got treated by Aku.

No, you're right. I think we're just talking about different kinds or degrees of continuity. Like, even basic episodic shows have continuity, if only of the basic premise. What I was thinking of was situations in shows like Adventure Time, or Steven Universe, or Bojack Horseman where characters are introduced, they become part of the ongoing story, significant events happen, there are actual long-term consequences for them, and characters change as a result. But I guess it's too late for anything like that with Samurai Jack, though, as Robby said, it would've been good if they had done it in its original run.
My point is, Ashi meets a bunch of people that Jack helped previously and uses that to save him from his guilt. And that's cool and all, but there's also a lot of other people that Jack helped and she could have met any of them and it would have had the same effect (heck, they actually did this previously in The Aku Infection). It's good continuity, but not fantastically immersive or involved continuity. That's all I'm saying.
Seeing how that got back Kevin Michael Richardson back for Demongo, hopefully means Genndy can bring back the Guardian.
Oh my, now that's impressive.
That was super crazy impressive. Especially since it must have been done in the last 5 weeks or so.
! So not waiting five minutes cost Aku fifty years.
Well that was brutally depressing.
! Now it makes sense - the green filter from earlier was Jack remembering how freaking grim that moment was.
! Last portal -> the day the sword was lost? Appropriate for such a significant fit.
Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that this early.
I never realized how much I need a Samurai Jack Musou game until now.
! So much for the Guardian ending lol. Unless Jack becomes a ruler for a while in the series' epilogue instead of immediately going back to the past.
! So not waiting five minutes cost Aku fifty years.
! Which impressively feels explained there, with how lax Aku was, almost letting Jack fall through the portal moments prior.
! 10 episodes is a bit of a draw sadly, for it feels like both Jack's inner journey and Ashi's battle could've used more time. HOWEVER, I don't think we're fully done with this Head Priestess. C'mon, what's her story?
! Still, twas marvelous to see our boy Jack back.

! If she showed up now out of nowhere, I doubt enough care is being put into her character to explain where her motivations came from.

! ….fair point. Plus it's very Aku-like to be completely in the dark about this whole cult (pun not intended).
! A huge smile formed across my face seeing the return of Classic Jack. I also loved the contrast between Jack's peaceful mind trip and Ashi brutally defeating an entire army.
Ugh, why are they pandering to classic fans so fricking much? Classic Jack looks lame and simplistic and is literally devoid of any character or charm. Modern Jack is just oozing with personality and looks way cooler than barebones Classic Jack. If Gennedy is too afraid to take risks then what's the point of watching this anymore? What a trash series.
! I mean it.
! >! I swear, I ain't joking.
!
! Just kidding! Loved the calming atmosphere in Jack's spiritual journey, I zoned out and thought I was gonna fall asleep at first. Now that Jack has his kimono and magic sword back, I wait for him and Ghost Scotty to reunite…
So, I missed out on Samurai Jack as a kid. It's just something that for some reason didn't click with me. I remember seeing exactly one episode as a kid (Jack and the Scottsman Pt. 1) but for some reason didn't get hooked and didn't watch any more… no idea why, since I love Gendy's other work like Dexter's Lab, His hand in Powerpuffs, and especially his Clone Wars series.
Fast forward to now tho and since the new Season is here, I've had approximately two thousand people tell me I need to watch the original so I can watch the new season with them. This includes my sister, all my friends, my boyfriend, my dog, my imaginary friend, and exactly 42 ants that have made residence outside my apartment.
So yeah, I sat down recently and started watching and... yeah, I don't know why the hell this didn't hook me as a kid because it's goddamn great. It's everything I liked about Gendy's Clone Wars series but in a full show.
The art design, sound design, and soundtrack are superb. The show REALLY knows how to use minimalism well. I especially love how it effectively tells stories without dialog a lot of the time.
Last episode I watched was S3E4 "Jack and the Zombies" and holy crap is this good.
My only gripe so far is something that I know probably wasn't intentional, that being that 95% of the things Jack fights are robots so he can hack them up without any gore to scare the kiddies... even if it makes no sense for the thing/person in question to be a robot... But the stories themselves are great, as are the characters.
I'm pretty eagerly anticipating getting to the new material. I can't wait to see what Gendy is allowed to do with more modern animation techniques and the freedom that AS allows.
It'd be really awesome if Gennedy made an animated Dark Souls series.
Episode 7
! I love the baby rams! I would feel the same way as jack if i killed something that adorable.
! I know mother will come back. If Scaramouch can survive, than imo I'm sure she be back. The show has shown us that humans are a lot more tougher and durable than robots.
! Jack making tea scene was animated beautifully. The soundtrack has been top notch with
every scene. Meanwhile Ashi defeats an army with her fists! I love her jack style expressions as well.
! The duo between Jack and Ashi has been great from the start. Now that there both "balanced" they can really kick some ass. Its going to be so fucking bad ass to see jack Ashi and the Scotsman army take down aku! I can't wait!
Well, only three episodes left to go. It's bee a good ride so far. Still weird seeing blood in the show though.
! I do wish Jack had actually cleaned up himself rather than getting a magical shave and a haircut though.
