The one doing Breath of the Wilds music is Manaka Kataoka (Wii Fit, Zelda: Spirit Tracks and the Animal Crossing series)

Hello,
reviewers who played the game are reporting a lot of technical problems with the switch version, mainly graphical. A lot of ugly aliasing and clipping even though the world seems empty and of course the 900p resolution, not even full HD. Also, there seems to be a problem with the joy-cons if you have some big fingers. -
NA boxart (left) vs. European boxart (right)
[hide][qimg]https://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/breath_wild_box_art.png[/qimg][/hide]The European one is such a bad shot, what's with the stance and the bird silhouette in the corner?
And the Japanese…
[hide][/hide]Huh. And here I assumed Japan and Europe would get the same shot as that seems to be the trend; Japan and Europe get a colorful image, America gets golden hues and nothing else. But yeah, the Japanese and US coverart is just a lot more impressive and cool-looking.

Huh, so that's why I kept getting Animal Crossing vibes when I hear the music for the game.
-
Man, I am NOT a reactions video person, but I've been watching reactions to the new trailer nonstop since I saw it myself.
Unf, I want this now.
Time to complete all my knit and crochet projects before it comes out because mah hands gonna be occupied, damn it. Pre-ordered this and the Switch now. Very pricey at $999.99. [emoji14]
-
I might be in a minority here, but the voice acting did not settle well, at least the English voice acting. It reminded me of forced, 90's anime dubs.
-
I've had plenty of time for all this Breath of the Wild stuff to settle in, but for some reason I'm just not as excited for this game as many others are. The game looks nice and from what I've seen it looks like travelling around and doing stuff will be a lot of fun, but something is just keeping me from getting hyped about the game. Part of it may be that there are some other games I am looking forward to this year far more than this game, so perhaps I am all out of excitement to give. Maybe after all these years I've gotten tired of various things Nintendo has done so I am a lot more cautious about anything they do. Then there is the fact that I never really wanted Zelda to be a big open world game, and with those games being a dime a dozen it's even harder to get into that aspect.
I don't mind being cautious about the game because that's always a good things, I'm just worried that I will be so jaded that I somehow won't be able to enjoy this game fully for what in the end will probably be petty reasons. Then again, perhaps I'm too busy looking forward to RE7 that's about a week away that once Zelda is on the horizon I might be more into it.

I've heard a few things about the issue too which makes things a little different. When they make a build to show off to the public, they obviously have to modify it. Typically, they'll want to limit what the players can do or what story-related things they can trigger to avoid spoilers and the like, so they make a special build of the game for these events.
There is a rumor that to make things easier, they basically made the one Demo build for the Wii U version for E3 2016, and that every version they've shown off for people to play in public since then has been based on the backbone of that original E3 Build, [url=http://www.zeldainformer.com/breath-of-the-wilds-recent-demo-is-the-wii-u-version-which-could-mean-we-still-dont-know-what-the-switch-version-looks-like/
]even the Switch version that just got showed off.If this is true, then both retail versions should DEFININTELY Run better than what we've seen so far.
But even then, I've watched every discussion video GameXplain has done on Zelda (Barring any new ones I may have missed) and I remember them saying about the Switch event that the game runs absolutely fine, and all they noticed was some minor but not alarming framerate dips when you're in an area with a lot of plant life (Grass, trees) as they have independent physics so that when the wind blows through them they look real.
Controller seems to be a personal preference thing tho and varies from person to person.

Of course, but it is in French: JeuxVideo.com In France, this equivalent to IGN. The day after Nintendo presented the "switch", they've had a convention in Paris for people to test. So the reports are based on them playing the games. Please also note, that the prices are really high for the system and accessories in Europe when compared to those for the USA.

The issues they are reporting are technical issues, not gameplay issues. The low resolution, the overheating of the switch when handheld, the materials used for the joy-con and their size.

No, the problem is actually the size. When you have big hands and/or big fingers, it will be hard.
The system will be out in less than 2 months, we will see by then. But having big hands and big fingers, I am definitely not buying it until I fully test it and when more than 1 game is out.

Looks like there are some very small differences between the WiiU and Switch version of BOTW. Obviously the Switch version was going to run a bit higher than the WiiU version, and sound quality being a bit different shouldn't be a deal breaker. Thankfully content wise and everything the game will provide will be the same, but that 3 GB download for the WiiU does not sound like fun. I always hate that and who knows how long that will take to download. Looks like I'll need to make sure I have enough space on my system for that.
-
The German dubs are usually pretty good but these feel cringey, I'll stick to Japanese with English subtitles. Also, I think the 3GB are meant to be data that have to be installed, i.e. copied from the disc to the hard drive, so no need to download them.

I dunno if there will be dual audio for Botw, these guys only just got rid of region locking. I'm crossing my fingers because it would be nice to have but I'm very sceptical.

True, but since the European version will have most of the language options in the game anyway, I hope they kept the Japanese one in as well.
-
I really don't get any of the bitching about the English voice acting - which seems focused on Zelda's sob of all things. She sounds defeated to me which is what's going on. And maybe it's because I saw the English trailer first, but the Japanese sob annoys me. That and it's higher pitched.
I watched a comparison of a bunch of different languages actually, and the only one I'd call "bad" is the one where she sounded like she was laughing.
About the big hands, I heard one guy said it was fine with his monster hands. So yes, it is personal preference.
-
I thought the English voice acting was fine, and I liked Zelda's British-sounding accent. But if given the option I'll play with Japanese audio. I really liked the Japanese.
-
I might be semi biased since it was the one I heard first. Never mind only hearing it in English for the past year from all the gameplay footage. They're all technically fine (laughing crying Zelda aside), but every bad comment about English Zelda is that she sounds emotionless in that part.
I'm sorry. I forgot that everyone cries in a high pitch perfect and unbroken. My fucking bad.
Also I have a sneaking suspicion that selecting English subtitles with Japanese/German/French/whatever audio won't be a thing. If you can select the language, I assume that's the language you'll get for both.
-
I always have trouble getting into something in a given language if I'm accustomed to it in a different one already. Even in cases where the shitty dub I'm used to is objectively worse. It's the way the mind works. And for a long time I also thought I was biased toward Japanese voice acting in games because I couldn't understand it and wasn't accustomed to regular Japanese speech, but now that I DO speak Japanese and am very familiar with various accents and speech patterns in general, and nothing has really changed in my preferences, I'm going to go ahead and just outright say that in truth Japanese voice acting is just much more versatile and enjoyable. At least to me.
In this case I have absolutely no issue with the English crying Zelda. But the Japanese one sounds natural as well, at least given the language.
-
All that I get, but I just feel like people are thrashing on English Zelda for a different performance.
On a slight aside, is it just me or are the two lines that everyone is attributing to the Deku Tree are actually two different voices? It's easier to hear in other languages like French where it's clearly another guy. I almost convinced myself that everyone else was right even though I was hearing slightly different voices until I heard the French one.
-
There's a new
where Eiji Aonuma reveals a few new things (warning: that build in the video is the final version on the Switch and shows how the game starts, so don't watch it if you don't want to be spoiled):- You won't be able to enter your own name, Link is most definitely called Link (makes sense since there's voice acting)
- Everything in the game is in one language and bound to the system language, so it won't be possible to choose Japanese voices with English subtitles (guess I'll stick with English then)
Minor spoilers:
! - Epona is somewhere in the game
- There's an alternative ending if you manage to trigger it

Minor spoilers:
! - Epona is somewhere in the game
- There's an alternative ending if you manage to trigger it
! That makes me wonder if Epona is related to another slight spoiler from one of Nintendo's recent videos where they
! get a quest about a pure white horse that is a descendant of the pure white horse of the total family.
! Probably not, but might be worth it to follow all leads about all horses. -
I just wasn't as immersed with the trailer. And I wasn't complaining about Zelda at all, it was the other characters that threw me off.
I would have to watch it again, as I only saw it once.
–--
After watching it again, it was better, still the male voice acting was eh.

If there are still many other stuff/quests to do I won't mind it. But if this turns out like a Far Cry 3 borefest of mindlessly picking up hundreds of statues for nothing… Ubisoft gameplay is the worst.

I have jack to do at work most days, so I'm throwing any and all rocks at enemies whenever possible. And jumping all cliffs.

I'm getting PTSD from Assassin's Creed II's bird feather collecting.

You don't know pain until you've farmed 30 Proofs of Concord, 30 Sunlight Emblems, 30 Wolfblood Swordgrass, and 30 Vertebrae Shackles in Dark Souls 3, offline.
I welcome whatever challenge widdle Nintendo thinks they've come up with (in a Zelda game? lol). Really wish they'd implement an Achievements/Trophies system, though…
-
I'm not a fan of achievements, personally. Stuff I do in games should be from intrinsic motivation or from the game giving me a reason to care to do things. In that sense I dislike a random set of things the game tells me I need to do for completion. If those things are so fun that I should do them, then place motivation in-game to get me to do them.
-
As a completionist, there are times achievements motivate me to try fun things that I never would have thought of otherwise or give me concrete challenges to attempt that are enjoyable. But most of the time it's stupid, tedious crap. And I feel like it's gotten worse in recent months, to the point that I've started ignoring many of them unless I REALLY love a game. So I guess while I don't hate their existence in general, I'm pretty good with them not being added to Nintendo games.

There's no harm in implementing more arbitrary optional challenges just to add longevity in a game, even though most of the times they're just boring chores. The bigger problem is when lots of people insist that other developers should add this feature just because the majority does, and if they don't then they're somehow wrong in their decision
-
There is a slight harm if you're a compulsive completionist like me. If other people can see my profile and go "Look at this guy! He didn't finish every achievement!" it makes me feel like I haven't truly completed it, and I will pretty much do it out of obligation. Again not if I end up disliking the game and such, but for a Zelda game? I think I'd feel compelled to do it, no matter how tedious.
Like I'm so thankful the achievements in Xenoblade Chronicles X are private because there are a few of those that I'm just absolutely unwilling to do. I already got every single holofigure but I'm not killing Telethia 100 times for example.

I don't care whether they add them for others or not. I'm just expressing why I personally dislike the notion of it.
Also, on the idea of longevity, it says something about your product that you need to toss in arbitrary challenges that aren't really part of the game to make gamers feel like they're getting enough time out of the game to warrant purchase.
-
Honestly, aside from the masks in Majora, and the Maimais in ALBTWW, every major trinket collection quest in a Zelda games has been boring to me. I've never gotten all of the Skulltulas or Poe's Souls because there was no real reason to at endgame. I don't see any difference this time.
-
Never was a fan of collecting X-amount of the same thing in any sort of game, which is why the mask collecting thing worked a bunch for me.
But in the defense of it… The one time I actually gave it a try was the feather collecting in Assassin's Creed 2. I absolutely hated it in the end, and I never in my life wanted to do anything similar in another game, BUT. I understood it! I noticed that most of the times whenever a collected a feather, I would stop and notice how great the scenery or view was... Almost as if the developers wanted to show off assets they were proud of, despite it not making a forefront in the game's main campaign. So in a way it's a minamilist method of filling up a game's unused corners, esp in a sandbox.
Still. I do feel the design approach too artificial and mindless for my taste.
-
I only 100% a few things. I go for 'whatever I feel like'%.
I'm guessing the amount of stuff in this game is to give you a reason to check out every landmark and feature, which isn't a bad thing. It's sort of how pickups worked in Brütal Legend, which was a game riddled with issues, but it had a pretty enjoyable world to explore, so having stuff to find was nice. The real issue's going to be whether or not they mark these collectibles on your map. If they don't, it's gonna suck when you're missing just one.
-
Yeah, if the world's as giant as they say it is, I don’t mind finding awesome scenery if that's part of the intent. I was planning on reaching every part of the map that I can anyway.
Also time. So much time.
Actually on that note, what's everyone's first goal after they get off the plateau?
I'm heading for the cloud covered mountain because of a video I watched that zoomed in on it, and … I just have an inkling.
-
I just want to make a naked beeline for the biggest, baddest dude in the area, and confound them with my nudity.
-

Maybe they could mark the ones you've found/completed. It would take all of the sense of exploration out of the game if it marked stuff that you hadn't found.
-

I'm thinking about a pantsless run, but this game apparently can kill you rather quickly.
Maybe just when horse riding. Skin to skin contact is best, right?
-
I want to head immediately for that really dark place, store away the most ridiculous weapon/item I find, and utterly confound the final boss with it. Then I'll reset the game and actually do the story.
-

If I'm not mistaken I think Twilight Princess did that for the bugs and heart pieces

Zelda has never marked Heart Piece locations on the map that I know of. The bugs were marked, but that's different. Those are story event segments that lock you into an area until you find them all, so it's whatever if the map shows you the general location of them (and it only shows them when you're physically on the right map segment I believe).

This generation fears exploration without hand holding in video games and challenge so who knows.

Pretty sure it's more like people are sick of back tracking. It's such a big world though that I'm going to try to refrain from using any of the shrine warps just to make sure I didn't miss anything on my first time through.
