WOW..never heard about this game, but this trailer gave me a HUGE TTGL vibe.
Cool. Loved the first one, its one of the reasons I got a steam account. (ANd they're STILL releasing content for it, they just released one of the new characters today.) Need to play it some more, I haven't even gotten through Millia's story yet.
Its the best Sonic game since the Genesis.
(I really wish it had come out 20 years ago when I had the time and reflexes to play such things endlessly and master everything.)

That trailer preview is not ike the actual game. AT ALL. Kinda weird. They obviously threw some money at their opening cinema there but… that's not the game.

My friend actually said the same thing lol
I was told that the story wasn't good tho
No, the story is amazingly awful and slow, and interrupts the levels for like 10 minutes at a time. Terrible.
Watch it once for the story, thenj ust play the level mode after that.

What a cool game, reminds me of Sonic from the 16 bit era, but even cooler. I would play it nowadays, I hope that the second game sticks with the platform theme.
And Lilac now looks more less dragonish.
I thought the story was like a cheesy Saturaday Morning Samuria Pizza Kats cartoon. So I didn't mind it watching through it the first time. My favorite scene was just the one where the girls were watching TV.
Great game though. It fast paced, surprisingly challenging and has some really amazing level design, tons of variation, and kicking music. My only gripe with it was the last bosses being a little bit too cheap. Looking forward to thier next game, though I wonder if this is gonna be a crowd fund thing(haven't looked it up since watching the trailer yesterday)
Huh, hadn't seen that trailer. Kinda bummed that it was super over the top anime epic extravaganza with the theme played with an electric guitar instead of gameplay… but I guess we'll get there sooner or later.
Hope that doesn't mean this series following Sonic mantra fully to the point of style over substance.
edit: wait, why was this thread revived? Those post dates just became glaringly out of place.
edit2: Ah, it's because gameplay videos have been released. Lol, what a journey this has been.
Wait, for real?! A sequel to Freedom Planet?! I didn't even play the first one yet (actually, there's a LOT of games I haven't played yet. For an example, I just started playing Undertale.)! I do know that it technically plays like a Sonic game, minus Sonic, of course. That alone, catches my interest to play the game, although I'm not sure if my borderline-but-maybe-not-really-toaster-of-a-laptop can run the game at an average at best speed.
Nevertheless, I'm eagerly awaiting this game and hopefully I'll be able to get it somehow.
Why are the characters so…Sonic Boom now?
I don't see what you mean about them being Sonic Boom. They look like they're supposed to have grown up a bit, so the designs are significantly less chibi-cute and more proportioned.
I can respect the decision; even if I do miss some of the cuter sprites from the original, the characters designs look pretty solid. Not at all forced proportions and bandages all over like Sonic Boom.
I thought they were already fully-grow adults.
Waiting for Milla.
We've already seen grown-up Milla though…
Major first game spoiler
!
Looks good, day one purchase for me. Glad to see Carol's motorcyle ability is still in there, I spent the entire trailer wondering if they'd taken it out.
I need to go back and play the original some more. Did they ever get around to releasing the last character?
Why are the characters so…Sonic Boom now?
They're not… Sonic Boom. the designs are just more refined and detailed to be less blatant big headed Sonic clones. Grown up some.
They didnt become freaky mutants with bizarre proportions covered in bandages.
And Lilac actually looks like her own character instead of straight up Sonic fanfic.

Dude, spoil tag that better with at least a hint of the context of the tag.
Maybe I'm just being weird right now but the only thing that kinda bothers me from that footage is how static Lilac and Carol's heads look most of the time. Almost like they're frozen in place while the bodies move.
That attack at the final of Lilac's video reminded me the Final Strike from the Megaman X series.
Never played the first game, but I listened to its OST. It was excellent, to say the least. From my understanding, its a love letter and spiritual successor of the classic Sonic games. Is this inaccurate?

Coming from another person who hasn't played the first game but wants to so bad because it's a Sonic game in spirit, you're correct.
It's pretty much a spiritual sequel to Sonic 3 and Knuckles, in terms of certain mechanics.
The main difference is that this one has more combat, particularly in bosses, and while each character has similarities to a sonic character (Lilac = Sonic, Carol = Knuckles, Milla = Tails), as a whole they have mechanics that are wildly different, especially Milla.
I always felt that Freedom Planet was more Rocket Knight Adventures via Sonic then a straight up Sonic continuation. Maybe that's just me though…

Each character had different mechanics and paid tribute to a different game. Lilac was Rocket Knight Adventures, Carol was Sonic, Milla was Donkey Kong, and I think Torque was going to be Megaman. No idea what Spade's gimmick was… Ninja Gaiden?
Milla still looks more like a dog than Lilac looks like a dragon.
There's a sample version of the game currently available for free on the Galaxy Trail site here:

For those not able/interested in playing who want more info, recently they also released a trailer for the fourth playable character, Neera:
edit: omg, this is so much fun. Took some time to adjust to some characters, but getting to that point where you go through the level as fast as possible timing everything perfectly and beating the boss quickly without taking damage feels sooooo good. I like the guard/dodge mechanic a lot.
Also, was able to clip myself into the wall using Milla already. Then I fell out of bounds and died. lol
Two things I've learned so far:
1. I didn't know my toaster of a laptop could run Freedom Planet 2 so good in fullscreen.
2. This game is so much fun! The feeling of going fast is just like the Sonic games on the Genesis/Mega Drive when it comes to memorizing the level structure and blasting through them at blazing speeds. And all the characters can go fast and still have their own playstyles which makes them unique from each other.
In short: I need to get both Freedom Planet games!
Oh wow, it's only been like… 7 years since they announced it? Neat.
I'd just kind of assumed it was a dead project and had forgotten about it completely.
And I will again before September.
Oh man, time to get excited about this game again! Lots of other games already for later this year, but I'll find have to find the time for this one
