Sanji is probably going to revisit his motto: "women's tears don't lie".
Chapter 851: Tab End

Luffy and Nami will use the Time Turner, confirmed. :ninja:
Joking aside, nice catch.
Well, it isn't that much of a joke.
The roll of films holding memories for each human according to Pudding, is depicted in HP & The Order of the Phoenix, where brains had those exactly film rolls coming out of them in the Thought Chamber at the Ministry of Magic's Department of Mysteries.
Nitro laughs 'Gyahahaha', only Caesar laughs like that D: I need to check Capone's laugh.

Anyone else think/ hope Sanji will quit smoking after this? Like that was his last cigarette ? He obviously uses them as a an emotional crutch. Plus it's a manga for kids do we really need one of the most badass hero's making smoking look so cool and appealing?

This is the same line of logic that leads parents to accuse video games of making kids murder their classmates.
Sanji is his own character and he can smoke all he wants.
It's up to responsible parents and peers to keep kids in the right mindset about such things in real life.
Rather than hide references to these things away, why not actually teach kids to not copy everything they see? -

I like the idea of what you're suggesting but I don't think Sanji has had that kind of ordeal. IIRC no one in-universe (outside of Zeff against the kid Sanji) has scolded/complained that he smokes and it's not like we've seen him struggle with withdrawl or anything to that effect.
To Oda, it's just a way to make Sanji look cool. (ninja'd by MDL)

Rather than hide references to these things away, why not actually teach kids to not copy everything they see?Forget kids how about me I stopped smoking 366 days ago and Sanji lighting one up makes me want to light one up every time. Not to mention how do you know a video game sometime somewhere didn't influence a kid to become violent, sure it's probably bad parenting, or chemical imbalances or bullying or something usually but you're telling me growing up playing COD and GTA everyday for years and years doesn't give an impressionable kid even a 1% chance more of being likely of grabbing a gun and killing people? I call bs. Granit 99% of that IS media driven bs just to make stories and talk shit about video games because people fear what they don't understand but you make it sound like it's so cut and dry like let's open up liquor stores in elementary schools, kids should be raised to know better than to be temped by liquor and cigarette and drug advertisements in their classrooms. Breaking news most parents STINK and don't properly prepare their kids for life. Teach kids how to not copy everything they see? That is literally what kids do, that's how they learn, that's how they form habits, that's how they learn to "fit in" to society they are little sponge brains. I'm not saying it's wrong for Sanji to smoke I'm sayin it would be cool if he quit and inspirational, smoking may look cool but it's not cool all it does is kill and as badass as Sanji looks lighting up I think he would look cooler being one of the few hero's in manga/ the public eye to be like naw I don't need this shitty vinsmoke anymore.

Unforunately Oda's manga is not the best approach to this. The man himself smokes. ^^;

I'm not saying it's wrong for Sanji to smoke
This is all I needed to read, because that's what I thought you were saying.
Fair enough then. -
Why would you post spoilers in the first post screw you man
ban this kid. -
seeing sanj cry is the saddest thing in one piece imo, both the first time when he left zeff and now after he discovered pudding's true motives.
he's usually the cool and most collected member of the strawhats, if he cries then it has to be something that broke his heart. i hope he gets out of this experience more mature and less naive with women.
oh and it sure was convenient for us that pudding has decided to explain her power to herself and to a passed out reiju for no reason at all. come on oda, don't be so lazy. -
Forget kids how about me I stopped smoking 366 days ago and Sanji lighting one up makes me want to light one up every time.
You should despise Smoker.
-
@MDL:

Fair enough then.Yeah it was just a thought really, I was reading this chapter and watching Sanji frantically try to light his smoke and just kind of thought well if he's gonna ever quit it will probably be now but meh it probably won't happen.

@Shobu:
You should despise Smoker.
LOL nope Smoker doesn't do it for me surprisingly, just our boy Sanji.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Smoker is more like the group of old sickly Italian mafia guys I work with that chain-smoke all day it makes smoking look less appealing.
-
That broken teeth of Luffy must be one of the worst things Oda have done. What complete joke, utter disgrace.
-
Ban all the media, we might get violent! That same argument can be used for any sort of expressive medium, even cave art. The casual racism thrown at parties, making fun of the failure of other people. I think the bigger problem here, are the kids, we should ban them instead. Blame anyone you want, but at the end of the day YOU are responsible for what you do, and the best anyone can do is: have an open mind to respect others and have common sense to not harm others by your ideals.
I like the idea of him quitting because of some sort of hidden message about not ruining your life, and accelerating your death. But otherwise, censorship is something that actually breeds ignorance and obscures the subject/act analyzed and distorts what it truly is. I know you weren't talking about that, but "doing it for the kids" type of mindset very easily bleeds into that.
And good job on stopping, I did so too 7 years ago, I have had some twice, and this year a puff here and there, but no doubt it is refreshing to stop and feel the extra second your breath lasts.
-
That broken teeth of Luffy must be one of the worst things Oda have done. What complete joke, utter disgrace.
I really don't get the hate for it. He's a fucking pirate. Up until this point, nothing about Luffy's aesthetic screamed 'PIRATE', but now he has a missing tooth. Just roll with it dude.

Better to just nip the problem and not let OP be the reason they started smoking (although they'll probably smoke anyway).

I also do not get the problem, maybe it is just me, but these guys must break their teeth and regrow them back in hours. I thought you needed a dentist.
-
I always figured Oda is being silly and trying to make Luffy parallel BB more, right down to the inconsistent teeth injury.
It doesn't scream "permanent eye catching injury" like an eyepatch or face scar would. Or y'know, his own scar lol.
-
Better to just nip the problem and not let OP be the reason they started smoking (although they'll probably smoke anyway).
Even if a kid started smoking because of OP, that doesn't make it OP's fault.
If the kid makes a bad choice, it's the kid's responsibility. Not the pirate comic.
The comic holds no accountability. -
Wait so are we all on the same page? Is Luffy getting his tooth back or not? Also will it be addressed or will it just appear fixed down the road mysteriously being fixed off-panel.
The next cover story arc "Luffy vs. the pirate tooth fairy." -
I tend to be unreactive to most things, Luffy's missing tooth is one of them. I guess there are some things some people take to heart that I'll never understand why, unless you explain it to me.
-
Well, this chapter was a mixed bag for me. Lots of stuff presented well, but with underlying aspects that nag.
Heres where I lose everyone still paying attention to my rants: Puddings evilness is coming across as Mashima-level overblown. This is coming from a guy who loves Spandam, but the whole scenario is just a bit too on-the-nose for me; “exposition, exposition, exposition, HAHAHA SANJI IS THE MOST PATHETIC PIECE OF GARBAGE IN THE UNIVERSE, HAHA CAN YOU IMAGINE IF HE WAS LISTENING TO THIS”. The DF makes Pudding seem less of a total cliché, but this still feels very much like it only exists for meta-reasons (we need to get some info to the readers and reveal Puddings true nature), and not for any meaningful story reasons. I’m not a big fan of memory alteration after Dressrosa, but the visual is cool, and its just one of the three DFs Sugars’ should’ve been.BUT! On the other hand, the way the scene affects Sanji is sold really, really well, and if this results in some actual development for him then its all worth it. I mean, this is shitting directly on his romantic chivalry, and specifically his “Mr Prince” persona. Then again, it could also end up with Reiju affirming that Sanjis attitude and values are 100% awesome, and that Pudding just wasn’t worthy of them.
The Brook plotline gives us a very neat spread, but again, it suffers from lack of focus. The connective tissue of the plotline is gone, and we’re left with the general beats accompanied by show-stopping imagery. These beats can be cool to look at, but they lack the legwork to truly make them resonate. Its ultimately less of a choreographed dramatic scene, and more like a cool Moment suggestive of a scene. How do we get from this cool moment to the next within this plotline? Just put in stuff from another plotline inbetween, easy peasy. Brook is facing off against an Emperor uniquely suited for him in a desperate moment, which is really cool in concept – but this is only dramtised by virtue of showing that Brook faces an Emperor, and has sustained some damage. Unless more is added to it the scene will be memorable just for the fact of Brooks guts, and not because of anything actually shown. It could be so, so much more, especially given these two specific fighters. How exactly does Big Mom fight, and how does she fight Brook? Specifically, Is there any special factors due to the nature of their DFs? How does Brooks DF affect homies, beyond giving us a cool spread? It reminds me of when Usopp fought a flammable sniper man and a quick close-range fighter who needed to eat a tabasco ball and nothing was done with it.
But it does look really cool, and I’m glad Brook gets this moment, truncated as it is; of all the Straw Hats Brook has always showed the most overt appreciation for his friends, and this is on full blast here. He truly loves Sanji and everyone else from the bottom of his soul, and I love seeing that, it sells the crewmate bond more than anything else in many, many years. And him calling Big Mom young lady is great! I just wish there was more meat to it. A few pages of Big Mom roughing up Brook gruesomely only for him to get up and face her would’ve done wonders. Sadly, this writing style seems to be here to stay, but as long as Oda can pace stuff like the Sanji drama has been done this arc, I will hold out hope for meatier, non-truncated scenes. Its not at full Toriko levels borderline montage yet.
Jinbes return works due to the reverse-Impel down scenario and his 20 chapter absence, and its good to finally have him enter the spotlight. But on the other hand, for something that was pegged at the “Jinbes True Joining and FI wrap-up where focus might get to be on Jinbe specifically and not the Fishman race as a whole extrapolated through Otohime and Fisher Tiger -arc” five years ago, Jinbe was absent for 20 chapters, and the arcs emotional crux is wholeheartedly Sanji-based. At this point I have zero expectation that Jinbe will get classic new-crewmate level focus, and instead just some Cool Moments here and there (and I wouldn’t be surprised if Alladdin, Praline and Wadatsumi sat the rest of the arc out). Luckily, Jinbe has done cool stuff earlier, but it’s a shame that odds of him getting a personal “Trio…duo…solo” moment seem so low currently.
-
Why didn't we all see Jinbei breaking out Luffy as the most obvious thing ever? Returning the favor one might say.
If they do keep the tooth gap which I don't think they will, it will make me laugh when and if I see them forget to draw in the black square down the road. -
Great chapter this week
- more bropper comedy and a way they can get back into the plot
- pudding being a complete jerk and her interesting fruit
- sanji feeling the pain of this and pudding referring to how she didnt want him remind me of all the times the vinsmokes neglected or abused him as a kid.
- nami refusing to tell about lola and cream going straight to arrows
- Jimbei kicking ass in a grand return after 20 chapters
This arc has been great so far and I cant wait for the next one, things have been ramping up nicely
-
That broken teeth of Luffy must be one of the worst things Oda have done. What complete joke, utter disgrace.
Nah, the worst thing is Camie and her lack of boobies. I can't understand why she has a B cup and was the first mermaid introduced after all the hype and bleed-noses. That's a joke.
Anyways, it isn't a thing to worry about, the bastard appears in the cover with a bright smile:
He welcomes the fire rooster chinese year, meaning Shonen Jump credits One Piece to be read in a worldwide basis. Stop complaining about shit when he appears with his teeth to all the world.
-
Luffy is the main character and never had any problem hitting a woman, ugly (Alvida) or pretty (Valentine and Vivi) What are you talking about?
Also I won't be surprised if Luffy smashes Pudding like Bellamy or the tenryuubito, I don't see him having any serious fight. it doesn't seem like she can fight, her DF is useless in fight and she used a special gun to hurt Reiju. She reminds of morons like Spandam or Saint Charlos.
I feel like oda has grown more conservative over the years, especially since he himself now has a family. Its been 15 years since luffy has punched a woman, oda had him escape the kuja when luffy was on kuja islamd even thoughhasnt had any problem pummeling weaker goons who happpened
There's a certain kid gloves oda puts on women compared to how violent the men get defeated, pudding probably wont end up with a bloody face, but I hope either reiju or nami get her ass and oda relents a little on that to make her defeat more cathartic
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Hahah, I see!
When I came on here and saw a new chapter I was hoping Sengoku's goat made a comeback!"Moist Cigarette" sounds gross though, lol.
And the MS title "Tab End" doesn't sound OP like at all.
Sure hope Viz goes with "Wet"..Well stephen might use Cigawet. ;) hahahaha but yeah probably will be something instead of moist

Im thinking tjis was also in the manga but the first pic I found of it

Something is wrong with Sanji's face in the pic. Why is he happy and with the crew? Isn't he supposed to be forever alone? Where's his face of eternal despair?:ninja:
-
Brook is a million kinds of epic this chapter! I always love when he starts telling the baddies about the crew (which he hasn't done in a while, honestly Oda!) because it always shows his fierce loyalty and trust in them. Every scene like this has been awesome, and to top it off he called BM a young lady which she totally is to him so he has to teach her a few things like the wise old skeleton he is. XD
He's also right about things eventually coming down to Luffy and Sanji despite whatever else is happening with the crew. Sure Sanji needs rescued now, but he is going to have to make up for his words to Luffy; the future Pirate King will not be happy until he does.
Really looking forward to the 2017 year! Mostly hoping it gets less painful for Sanji… his "year" was truly sucky...
-
That cover page is spectacular, nice way to announce Jinbei's return.
Sometimes you have to be fully pulled into the abyss to rise back up as a newer, improved version of one's self. The Sanji taking Ls left right and centre has to have a big pay off. No strawhat has ever made that sort of face, that despondent, hopeless look he has. Heart wrenching stuff.
Although I've always looked at Sanji as a bit of a badass so to see this side of him just doesn't sit right with me.
I know we say this every new arc post-timeskip about new characters but surely Carrot and Pedro (either/or) would make great additions to the strawhats alongside Jinbei. Speaking of the blue devil, he's such a beast! I can't wait to see him be a permanent fixture on the Sunny! His addition alone makes the strawhats look so much more formidable and dare I say he will push Sanji out of the monster trio :ninja:Brook gave me chills with his speech to Big Mom, I feel like Lin Lin respects pirates that have great and unwavering conviction.
-
Sanji is probably going to revisit his motto: "women's tears don't lie".
If he's that useless to humanity, he should just kill himself.

Lmao I love how savage you are about Sanji, it always makes me laugh. Poor guy can't catch a break (or light a cigarette).
-
If he's that useless to humanity, he should just kill himself.
At his all time low, he'd probably welcome a candy bullet to the dome.
-
anybody notice Luffy's missing arm here ?
-
At his all time low, he'd probably welcome a candy bullet to the dome.
That makes me wonder, is her room sound proof or something or does she expect the sound of a gun being fired off to be drowned out by the storm outside because surely that would make Sanji worry if he heard a loud bang coming directly from her room. It's like she's taking zero precautions to prevent any intruders from seeing what's going on inside her room (minus the talking door which refuses entry of course)
-
I will say this… when the Nazis aka Vinsmokes entered the scene I thought for sure they were plotting to betray BM. It being the complete opposite is kind of cool to me because I am pretty sure the Vinsmokes didn't plot a betrayal and we found out that it is indeed Big Mom that apparently plans to make her final push at securing her final marriage and final power move to become pirate king which is essentially her main goal. The straw hats have some seriously timing to pick the one wedding to go to where she plans a crazy betrayal and is probably the most important day in Lin Lin's life in her eyes.
Not to mention the revolution going on in her crew with Jinbei and Capone both turning on her. Why do I feel like Capone is going to end up with the Nazi army of clones in his belly fortress? -

But the question I can't get out of my head is what is making Sanji cry exactly?
- Lifelong dream of eternal bliss with a beautiful girl shattered
- Dissing his crew in favor of a hot girl and getting his heart broken
- Fear of getting himself, family and crew killed the following day
- Mockery of his chivalry
- Getting played by a Yonkou
What exactly is the purpose of his tears, ffs he met the girl 48hours ago.

When she just doesn't seem to be going well, like you are having a tough week and bad things keep piling up like when it rains it pours, eventually you get to the point where the pile gets too heavy and you snap, can happen to the strongest of people. So to answer your question a combination of all that and a lifetime of pent up emotions from lets face it… his pretty dark past. He had to boil over at some point.
-
I like how some people totally accept that Pudding was putting on an act before, but don't have any doubts about her current actions at all now and completely take them at face value.

48 hours is like 50 chapters in One Piece OK? That's a long ass time, basically a year (of sanji :ninja:)
-
Kind of like how they say some alcoholics or gambling addicts have to hit rock bottom before they can begin to heal or face their problem, we're seeing that moment for Sanji.
-
Dark Knight Rises
!
You know what kind of attack Bane used to break Batman's back? A knee strike. Just like Sanji.
!
Just to piggy back off this part of your post , I think this whole splitting the crew into two will really be the new status quo going forward. I mean he's already done this on Dressrosa and similar things in past arcs but most of the time they were in different places on the same island or the classic "you go on ahead Luffy, the crew will catch up shortly".
But the reason why it's essential now is because between balancing 9 protagonists (if we're already counting Jinbe, 10) and giving the side characters time for exposition , plus villains, henchmen etc. to call these arcs crowded is an understatement. Plus these incidents themselves have escalated to the point where the crew literally need to be two places at once to complete a single objective, which might not make much sense in writing but I hope people catch the drift of what I mean.
I personally think it's better this way, because it gives characters like Chopper, Brook and even Sanji time to shine, where as when they go up against Kaidou in Wano , I suspect Zoro, Ussop and Franky may get a bulk of the focus. Oda has balanced his development of these characters brilliantly imo.
Eh, I doubt that. It will most likely end in Wano Country with everyone reunited. While it's definitely for character spotlight purposes, I also feel it's because Oda has something very special planned for the moment the Straw Hats epically reunite on-panel. Especially with Jimbei in tow this time.
In the final war, I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see a split or even one more dynamic where all of the Straw Hats separate and head to different places with how widespread that conflict is hyped up to be. Oda can balance them, but the problem is that he needs to set up major characters and factions for the third act/endgame of One Piece. Now that the Grand Fleet has already been established as well as allies such as the Minks, I expect more balanced screen time.
@Bartholemew:
Nope, Kaido inadvertently totally got corrupted by the mighty pwngoat who started to reveal his true role by this 'subtle' foreshadowing.
You fool. Kaido is merely one of Pwngoat's Mythical Zoan forms.
Yeah I don't see what is redeemable about them, just because Big Mom and Pudding are assholes it doesn't make the others stop being assholes, they all deserve a beating.
Exactly. Two wrongs don't make a right, and this has been quite the morally grey and complex arc.
-
I actually don't understand this topic's "Goat Overlord" or MangaStream's "Tab End" title for this chapter, no matter which one is correct.

I actually don't understand this topic's "Goat Overlord" or MangaStream's "Tab End" title for this chapter, no matter which one is correct.
The title "Goat Overlord" is the name of the translator for that link, so the OP mistook it for the chapter title. And Tab End is just Gangsta Stream being Gangsta Stream.

I still think she's putting up an act but I don't want the army of people who take things at face value to shut me down because right now, let's face it, she is playing the bitch act tremendously well. The mocking of his bruised up face was the icing on the (whole)cake.
