@Gentleman_Bastard:
I'm personally just dissapointed how easily Brulee got deceived by them and how easily they were able to take her and her cronies out. I love the teamwork but felt the execution was just a bit sloppy.
I think the part that's sloppy is HOW we got to this exact situation. Almost everyone is wondering how they got to the point Brulee created a frog clone of Carrot and how she ended up confusing one for the other. Or how all that team of villains gathered in that place. Did they help take down Chopper? Seeing how Diesel just got thrashed in half a chapter, a bit of him doing something, like say outspeeding Chopper and hitting him, that would've been cool; then have Randolph and Croc guy double teaming a felled Chopper, I don't know, something akin to Big Mom's family beating the shit out of Luffy; it was done in half a chapter, made the characters display their abilities, and looked awesome. Imagine something like that happening 4-5 chapters ago. Just 5-6 pages. The whole scenario would feel already better.
NOW, the execution during the actual assault I felt was really, really great. This was a surprise attack. When Chopper mentions "these guys look troublesome" he means it, even if he takes them out at once. He precisely takes them out at once cause he takes them by surprise. I mean, out of nowhere, a giant boiling stew is thrown at their faces, they are mass electrocuted AND a massive crocodile is smashed against them. The fact it all goes so fast is supposed to be part of what makes the scene work.
It was already mentioned (and proved) that guys like Randolph or, specially, Brulee are a pain in the ass to deal with in an open confrontation (remember Carrot couldn't land a single hit on her when they were face to face), but when taken by surprise they are vulnerable. And, maybe just this once, it worked. At least, it worked for me.
If there's one thing Oda could've let happen, that was Diesel escaping. There wasn't that much need to take out a guy that still hadn't done a single thing, Chopper and Carrot would've still freed themselves of the situation AND it would give them a reason to act fast, knowing some enemies might come after them.
(I'll add, though, that I'm secretly hoping this is not the last we'll see of these people, because I'm quite convinced this is not the arc where Big Mom goes down. Or, even, some of these guys might re-appear later on).
