It feels really awkward to be playing a 3DS game that doesn't really have 3D. Not even the battles!
Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest

@CCC:
Thanks! Probably gonna reroll for a good nature, if not outright IVs.
I should be getting my amazon delivery in a few hours :)
I haven't been paying too much attention, but is the soccer ball EV training in this one? As much as I liked the functionality of it in X/Y, spending literal hours on that early-game was kind of tedious :P
Haven't seen details, but I have indeed heard that there are ways to train up EVs. Have no idea how or where.
Also, this game also has hyper training, where you can adjust IVs. But you need specific items and I am unsure how common or early/late they are.

I'm not wearing a hat!
FREEDOM!

Awesome. Not gonna worry early on then :)

Omg, now that I finally got a good female popplio (went with relaxed because it was taking too long), I'm spending an unreasonable amount of time on refresh petting it and high-fiving it.
-
Hah, you live in the Haole side of town.
-
So is there anything like the friend safari? I know there's the festival thing, but really I just want to catch starters with hidden abilities. Also the festival thing seems kind of inconvenient compared to how easy it was to interact in XY.
Biggest thing I kiss though is being able to just push X to exit any menu ;-; small gripes compared to how much fun I'm having.

Team Skull is the best pokemon team. Bar none. Fucking hilarious.

I agree.
Not only are they hilarious by themselves, but also how other characters treat them.
Even I can treat them badly through chosing dialogue haha -
I identify way more with team skull than any of the protags by a long shot. That's before we add that most of the 'good guys' are really unnecessarily bigoted against them. Seriously, everyone looks down on them, and calls them thugs, and it's a little uncomfortable having to side with anyone that treats them so shittily based on things unrelated to the crimes they fail to commit. They deserve an apology, and maybe even a trophy for putting up with that shit for so long.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Stamina is such a fun ability to use in this game, since it punishes bad AI. I get to sit back watching my Mudsdale get harder to kill every time the opponent uses a stupidly weak move.
-
My copy should be coming in the mail tomorrow. Really exited for this one. Don'y qoute me on this, but I'm kinda hoping it gives me that nice homely feeling that BW gave off.
Also, I watched 2 episodes of the Sun and Moon anime and I have to say…I'm enjoying it. It definitely has my interest until it gets boring.
-
Holy fuck does it take a long time to get out of that hometown. And how fucking long does it take to find a Rowlett?
Omg, now that I finally got a good female popplio (went with relaxed because it was taking too long), I'm spending an unreasonable amount of time on refresh petting it and high-fiving it.
I could never reset that much and got a male . . . . . but it was Modest!
I also named my Pikipek Toucan Sam.

It shall be the prettiest of all the princes! Seriously tho, in-game popplio makes my heart melt.
Right now just got my Cutiefly, so team member 2 has been gotten! Can't wait to get to my Rockruff. While the team gets more robust been carrying around an alolan grimer and a drifloon to keep from getting Popplio too OP too soon.

It shall be the prettiest of all drag queens! I named it RuPaul for a reason.
I'm still bouncing around the city, but I WILL find that Drifloon and Rockruff! And my Metapod is almost due to evolve. I want a Cutiefly, but Butterfree will always do in a pinch.

Got my copies of Sun and Moon in the mail today and I've finished playing about 90 minutes of it. First impressions:
-Man, does this game take a while to get going.
-Selecting things to observe is a little awkward now that you have total freedom of movement.
-So glad that they give us the option now to send a different Pokemon to the PC rather than the one you just caught.
-I picked a Rowlet as my starter and, wow, starting out, there are a lot of Pokemon that either are flying types or will become flying types and, thus, will ultimately be banished to my PC.
-Pretty neat that trainers no longer approach you upon battling and just stay where they are. -
I went out and bought Sun first thing this morning and I'm making good progress in the early game… I just finished up with the Pokémon School stuff. It only took me three resets at the start to get a Litten with a Jolly nature (+Speed/-Sp. Attack), which I figured will benefit him most as an Incineroar later.
My early-game team's fluctuating a lot, but right now I'm using Buster (Litten), ButterButt (Butterfree), Bruddah Iz (Munchlax, didn't expect to be able to nickname him!), and I'm hunting right now for a good-natured Pichu.
-
A good name for a male Popplio: Foleo.
Also, did I seriously saw someone holding a Drifbloon? I mean, we know what to people who holds them.
-
! My Fusco (Alolan Rattata) died.
And so did Bear (Growlithe).
! Current team:
Finch (Dartrix)
Reese (Trumbeak)
Elias (Alolan Meowth)
Dominic (Zubat)
Root (Petilil) -
Noqanky and Popplio fans educate me: what is the "ideal" nature for it and why?
(my Rowlet is Gentle btw, how does that fare for it?)

Primarina's focus should be on being able to take hits to then counter with high special attack hits. With that in mind
Modest: raises Sp. Attack and lowers attack. Optimal for causing more damage with that high Sp. Attack
Quiet: raises Sp. Attack and lowers Speed. It's very likely primarina will always go second, so lowering speed is acceptable, though not as ideal as lowering attack. For defensive purposes, you have
Bold (+def, - att.) and Relaxed (+def, -speed) if you want to give a boost to defense to make sure a physical attack doesn't instantly kill you (given lower HP and a base defense of 74)
Calm (+ sp. def, - att.) and Sassy (+sp. def, -speed) if you want to boost sp. def further from base 116.I could see someone being crazy and trying to build up speed and then scarfing it to surprise some people, but the real speedy pokemon could still outspeed and leave you having a bad day.
Bottom-line I was going for modest, because power, but when I got relaxed I was ok with that since boosting that defense is not bad in case someone tries to exploit it. Then I'd want to support that with half sp. attack EVs, and the rest HP, Def and/or sp. def … I have to think about it.
Regarding your Rowlet, Gentle is... not what I'd want. Raises sp. def and lowers defense, which to me doesn't sound optimal in that I wouldn't want to be taking away from any of its defenses. But I've looked at Decidueye options significantly less, so idk.
Turns out it already has lower defense than sp. defense... mm, yea, not a fan of gentle. -
^Well I'm glad you guys weren't trying to kill yourselves over just one nature. :)

Day 1 Impression:
! They gave Mom a place to sleep?!
That is all.

So…..His name is Oliver Queen.
-
I find it hilariously creepy that my character can now go into other people's houses and lie on their beds.

Not Owliver Queen? For shame!

-
Now now, let us not turn this into a competition over who has the better names for their pokemon.
-
I'm screwed.
! That Glaceon killed my starter Finch and Reese the Trumbeak and Zubat.
-
Named my Rowlet DapsDaWay (Uh Huh Uh Huh)
For my Yungoos I resisted the obvious and ended up with SillyGoos
-
my current team is
Bumbo (Rowlet
Barngle (Pikipek)
Buttress (Metapod)
Big Lunch (Yungoos)
Beth! (Wingull)
and Chungus (Ledyba)Chungus is currently my mascot and I'm keeping this awful creature with me as long as I can
-

Lying in people's beds > looking in trash cans
I'll take this trade any day.my current team is

That's pretty much what Pyukumuku is gonna be for me. I'll be keeping him in the back soaking up that Exp Share power. If by some miracle he has a use, I'll be happy.
-
Hahaha, I lost the nuzlocke already…
-
Some of these cutscenes are really long for a handheld thing. It's nice that this game has a more integrated plot, but it messes with the pacing a lot.
I just got to island 3, my current team is:
Gundham (Dartrix)
Slow Dancer (Mudsdale)
Joubin (Charjabug)
Melty (Grimer)
Ozzie (Ribombee)I still need a stable 6th, but I'm just rolling with what I find and like. I've got thoughts about the game, good and bad, but I don't feel like typing them up right now, so you're spared, haha.
-
Uuuh … why, hello there, shiny Rufflet ... You shall be Afrochicken.

@dirt:
Uuuh … why, hello there, shiny Rufflet ... You shall be Afrochicken.
Well, fuck you.
I didn't realize that Grubbin was available back on Route 1, so I had to run all the way back to get it and now it's sitting pretty absorbing EXP. Cutiefly is also a bug in my gang, but he'll probably be fished out when I get Rockruff or something. It's still so early in the game, so I'm nowhere near a team I'm happy with. Grimer is doing a good job, but . . . . I don't want a Grimer. I want that damn Salazzle. Although it's strangely ironic that Grimer is the only female in my team.
-
Female Rockruff getto!
Named her Cleopatra in memory of my sweet little doggie. -
Wow, everyone is so ahead of me. See if I can go through the first challenge now before I have to leave. Team so far: Dartrix and Oyo (Butterfree. Get it? 'Cause Caterpie face looks like oYo… yeah...)
EDIT: Pet Crabrawler. It is surprisingly cute.
Wondering if I should keep it in my team. And now this Cutiefly I just caught too... so many pokémon, so few slots in a team... -
I find it hilariously creepy that my character can now go into other people's houses and lie on their beds.
Have you ever played Skyward Sword?
-
Hey guys! Pay attention when Lillie says she's not a trainer, because she'll only repeat it 53 more times on the first island, ok?
-
Only played for about an hour last night before my group were all about to pass out, not too surprising since we didnt get started till like 1 AM and after work shifts for everyone. So we got through the token tutorial section but haven't really gotten anywhere yet. Have a fourth person also coming over today to play and we're gonna marathon the thing for a while.
Caught everything in the first area despite having no intention of using ledyba, caterpie, or evil gopher thing.
Currently going with a Smite gods naming theme for things. We'll see if that holds up. Might switch to Harry Potter later, depending on mood.

Kind of disappointed that there's nothing as cool/useful as Mankey (Yellow) or Ralts (R/S) or Talonflame-pre (X/Y) in very-early game. So many Normals and garbage Bugs. Gold/Silver had a similar issue, though, IIRC.
Guess I'm settling for Grubbin as my second. Bleh.
-

Only named characters beds, meaning not your mom.

Cutiefly is pretty useful due to its dual typing. You also get access to Mudsdale pretty early on the second island. Don't forget to double check trial sites when you're done with them, either, since there's a bunch of good gen 7ers I missed because I didn't.

Definitely considering Mudsdale. Also want Salazzle and Iceshrew, but they're later on, I believe.
Good to know about rechecking trial sites ;)

Mankey and Fletchling can both be caught early on

First blackout: fire trial.
-

Yeah but I prefer to only use current gen things in my ingame team (only making an exception for Sandshrew because…come on...ice/steel). Have to settle for Grubbin at this point.
-
Damn, the ghost trial messed me up some, haha:
! Damn hypnosis Haunter on support. I tried to one shot the Mimikyu with my Decidueye's Z move, but it did jack shit, since Mimikyu's disguise was in play (even though it wasn't disguised as anything lawl). I still beat it just fine, but losing that advantage and giving it a chance to set up hypnosis made the fight unnecessarily brutal. I'm thinking of putting a Mimikyu on my team, though I already have ghost and fairy types. Can't hurt to catch one at all, though.
! Edit: Looks like I completely misunderstood how disguise works. I thought it was like Zoroark's ability, but apparently it's just a protect for the first attack. Huh. -
Arrgh… Why are there so many 5% rate encounters? And why is there always some dickhead who thinks it will be to cool to ask me to catch one for him? I'm on Lush Jungle looking for a Passimian, run past
5 6 7 89 Comfeys (which also have 5% encounter rate) and no signs of Passimians yet.EDIT: FUCKING FINALLY!! I feel like I had to go through at least 70 or so mons to find this…

Is it just me or are pokemon breaking out of pokeballs alot more in this game?
