hello everyone, im trying to get my friend to watch one piece, but all he does is badmouth it cause he has seen the dub, i finally reasoned with him to watch one episode, if he likes it he will watch. so what i need to know, is what do you guys think is the best episode with action that really grabed your attention and will get him to love the series?
Trying to get my friend to watch OP

the most recent Fight between Blueno and luffy
-
NO! Don't show him something like Gear 2 or the Bellamy fight. Trust me, he'll think it's lame that Luffy beat his opponent so easily and will think all of the fights are like that.
You can't really get someone to like One Piece with one episode, but if any, I guess the Arlong Park episode with Sanji and Usopp's fights. I would also suggest Zoro vs. Mr. 1 but he might get turned off by Zoro's power up at the end.
-
Yeah, start with the Arlong arc. To me, thats where the series REALLY picks up.
-
Start with Luffy v. Krieg.
-
If he don't mind spoilers, episode 126. The final fight between Luffy and Crocodile.
-
No offense, but the title of this thread sounds completely wrong X_x
-
If he don't mind spoilers, episode 126. The final fight between Luffy and Crocodile.
NO NO NO! He won't get that unless he's seen the whole alabasta arc. Even if he says he doesn't mind spoilers that's like
FFVII Spoiler:
! telling someone to start FFVII at Aerith's death scene
Just start with the first episode. It ends on a cliffhanger so he'll be like "Well, may as well see what happens…" that's what I was like XD But starting anywhere else but the beginning is just useless because he won't enjoy it as much if he doesn't know the characters. I mean I was really into it with Captain Kuro so... yeah if he's not in it by then he's not gonna be at all
-
My point is the final round between Luffy and Crocodile was the most intense and entertaining fight in One Piece.
-
@Xetalimn_Erket:
Start with Luffy v. Krieg.
Nooo, that was the most boring fight in the entire series! I couldn't wait for it to end!
Haha, you're going to get different answers based on different people's opinions.
1 episode is just too difficult. If possible, try to get him to watch the Arlong arc, or at least something in Arlong Park.
OR…Zoro v. Mihawk...that one was a big part of me getting hooked.
You shouldn't show him something that is a major, future spoiler. -
Nooo, that was the most boring fight in the entire series! I couldn't wait for it to end!
No it wasn't, that's when I realized how AWESOME One PIece was when Luffy slammed his fist into that spiked cape
to each his/her own thoughi still say start with number one… i just think anything else won't have the same impact if you don't know the characters =/
plus then you'll be all "So who is that fish man? How can Zoro do this/that? Where'd they find this person?" and so on.also if you have the manga, show him this because, this is just damn cool:

-
If he was interested in Luffy taking down his enemy easy, I'd just say Luffy Vs Bellamy.
But I can't chose just one episode, unless you want to show Luffy Vs Enel.
-
I second (or third) the Arlong suggestion. Just start with the first episode from that one and see if he'd be interested in watching more after that. That's what I did with my dad and he's totally caught up with KF now, he loves it. I really think Arlong's the best place to start someone who isn't sure if they like the show or not.
-
146-147, where Luffy, Nami and Zoro enter Mock Town etc. etc.
Not too many spoilers and one of the best arcs in the anime. Short and concise, too. Just a possibility.
-
No it wasn't, that's when I realized how AWESOME One PIece was when Luffy slammed his fist into that spiked cape to each his/her own though
OK, I agree the spiked cape/
suction cupsspikes part was cool, but that was the only memorable part, the rest was boring. -
I'd also suggest starting from the start, but if you want a specific fight to hook you're friends' attanetion I'd either go with Luffy's fight with Arlong or his breif fight with Bellamy.
Oh and I agree with CosmicDebris about the Kreig fight.
-
If he don't mind spoilers, episode 126. The final fight between Luffy and Crocodile.
Yea that was the actual episode that made me love One Piece. Up to that point I just viewed One Piece as an ok anime to watch, but not my favorite.
-
126 is too epic for words
the music, the action, the emotion,
-
If anything, make him see the first opening of One Piece, "We Are".
Back when I never new about One Piece, when I first saw it, it gave me shivers down my spine. It should do the same to your friend as well.
-
_<
I never liked that intro, way to stupid IMO….
-
It is pretty goofy, but after awhile, if you go back, watching, listening…and singing the melody after you've watched all of One Piece due to addiction, it does wonders to that old image. Well now I know of all different kinds of responses to first seeing that intro. I thought it sucked way hard at first, then I didn't care for it, now...yeah. Looks like others have had a variety of responses at first.
-
I never cared much for the first intro either. I don't hate it, but it's really not my favorite. I still say Arlong's your best bet.
-
lol i havent even seen arlong's park in japanese, i aw in in english and when i went to dl it from k-f, it said it was corrupt or something, better go dl and watch it now :P
-
kinda off topic your sig is too big
-
I showed my friend the Mr. Prince episode (109, I think) before I started her on the series in chronological order. I just think that's a cool episode - the image of Sanji casually gambling while Crocodile and Robin are watching their plan fall apart is one of my favorites in the entire series (though I am also fond of Zoro asking Luffy to give him the ricecakes after Helmeppo stomps all over them and the first time we actually see Zoro fight with three swords).
I actually wouldn't go with the Arlong arc myself - I watched the series in order and the arc had a bigger impact on me because I learned Nami's past a little at a time and it gave her actual recruitment more meaning to me. The series starts off a little slow, yeah, but I feel like Nami's attitude in the first few arcs make her ordeal in the Arlong arc feel more solid. I think the Arlong Arc is the first "major" arc of the series because it was the first one that had such a huge impact on everything afterwards - Luffy's first bounty, one of the more tragic SH pasts, the beginning of the Sanji and Zoro rivalry, Usopp's first victory in a fight, it was such a big turning point in the series.

Seriously? Have you at least read the manga for AP? Because Arlong Park has to be the most ruined by 4kids, they really hacked that one horribly.
And yes, your signature is too big, rules state 200 pixels tall 500 pixels wide max. Please resize it.
-
Start with AP arc, that by far would hook anyone into One Piece, but only the fighting scene. After he gets hooked tell him to watch from ep 1, but tell him that it doesnt really get progressive until that part that you saw. Then again a good ep is the Whisky peaks ep where zoro just beats the crap out of those BW and starts fighting with luffy.

Good call on the AP fight scenes - that would certainly save anyone from the Bellemere spoilers.
Also. . . I LOVE that episode, too - it was such a nice mix of Zoro being badass and comic relief.

I agree with what you said, except I'd personally say:
"You may find that the first few arcs won't be as good as the one you watched"
While I do agree that Arlong is the first of many excellent arcs, I did personally find the Buggy and Kuro arcs enjoyable and I feel you should give people the chance to enjoy the four arcs (Setting off, Buggy, Kuro, Kreig) themselves rather than (intentionally or not) “brainwashing” them to think they’re bad.
-
Hey, what about the Sail On AMV? :/ In case it hasn't been mentioned yet. Maybe it's just me, but the combination of stuff it shows up to Reverse Mountain is just great to me(especially Reverse Mountain <3), and I think it might start some interest. :D And there's not that many spoilers, I mean, it's an AMV, not a summary of events saying "this happened, then this happened, and he's like this because of this".
-
I would second whoever suggested the Zoro v. Mihawk episode. Not too spoilery and it shows a lot of what One Piece is all about while still being nice and actiony. It's one of the high points before the start of the Arlong Park saga. Arlong Park has MUCH more impact if you watch it after all the previous story arcs, it sort of requires it, imho.

DEFINITELY!
Luffy fighting a giant shark will mean NOTHING to your friend if they have no idea why he's doing it.
I even know someone who was turned off by the series for seeing Luffy vs. Arlong episodes first. -
Yeah, I'm sorry guys but AP is not a wise thing to start with. Arlong Park only makes sense really with the full story, which you can't get without spoiling. We all know the Arlong Park arc was great but many of us saw got to it after watching the previous arcs.
While the same can be applied to Luffy vs Crocodile with Vivi that fight is a hell of alot better than Luffy vs Arlong, Hell, all the fights in One Piece. So if you're just going with a fight scene to get him hooked then you should do Crocodile. Tho this may also kill your chances cause he'll be seeing the conclusion of one of the biggest build ups in One Piece before anything else.
Really dude, if he doesn't have the paitents to really sit down and watch from episode 1 theres a problem.
-
Personally Id go with the Bellemere flashback. So much emotion.
-
Sorry, but it really wouldn't have that much of an impact without first atleast seeing more.
And I doubt his friend wants to see that from the get go.
-

Sail On helped me re-capture some of my lost interest in OP. I second that idea.

I agree. It was a great fight, and the first time we learn that the heroes aren't as invincible as we once though. Plus it wasn't dragged on.
-
Apis Arc.
I kid. XD
Yeah, go with the Sail On AMV. It shows much of what OP without (really) spoiling anything, and leaves you wanting more. -
Nooo, that was the most boring fight in the entire series! I couldn't wait for it to end!
Boring, you say? That is favourite East Blue fight! Arlong would have taken the cake if he did not pull out that weird sword and make nothing of his "dilated eye" syndrome.
-
What Terek said. The Don Kreig fight was what really got me into the series in the first place (I didn't even SEE the 'real' Arlong fight for quite some time).
-
So Rapine, did you decide on an episode yet?
-
Yeah, the Sail On could be great. Even if you haven't watced One Piece, it's a nice AMV that can make you much more interested in watching it.
About the Zoro vs Mihawk fight, there are some people who could then think that the whole anime has people killing each other that easy, etc. But if you have warned him, that's ok
Well, anyway, in my opinion, you should at first tell him what OP is about, then show him The Sail On AMV and then start watching from Arlong Park.
-
let'm watch from episode one.
i had no idea what one piece was (i didntknow they were pirates even) so i just watched the first episode with my little sister and i got hooked after 3. just tell hime to watch upto the end of AP and if he doesnt like it then its not his type of show.
you dont want himto miss shanks do you D:< that was very important/cool!
-
yeah i looked at what you guys said then i asked another friend and agreed that i should show him the bellamy fight where luffy straight out pwns him to the face, he said it was ok and i told him to start downloading, dont know if he did or not ill look into more, thanks for the help though
Sail On is pro
-
No, didn't you listen to what I said?! From my experience, if they first thing they see of One Piece is the Bellamy fight, they'll think all fights are short and pointless with Luffy taking down the enemy without even trying. Not only that, but the fight just isn't satisfying if you don't see how much of an asshat Bellamy is. I wouldn't have a problem if you showed him the Jaya arc, but your friend only wanted to watch one episode, right?
-
hes still not sure hes gonna dl, i just think he doesnt wanna be wrong about it when he starts enjoying one piece the most, and start hating his fav atm Naruto
-
I want to get my friend into one piece and for her she really like shoujo stuff. But I want to get her into it. should I show her it from ep 1 or show her the arlong arc (since it's full of drama and she likes drama)?
-
why do people keep wanting to force people they know to watch shows they think they will like but they don't want to watch…...
-
Just let the person watch a few of the character development scenes and then the better fights.
-

If you're gonna have her watch, start from the beginning. Or show her the Sail On AMV, THEN go to episode one.
-
Sail On has way to many spoilers
