"That guy looks like a villain!" Lol. What in the world? Was that in the manga? Totally made me laugh.
Anyway, this was much more brutal in the manga. I know they have to tone it down and stuff, but still.
-
Wow, this was fucking amazing. The animation was servicable enough, but the directing and music choices really sold the episode, and huge props to Pedro's actor for selling the chilling ending scene.
Yeah the censorship is a bummer, but I feel like the directing helps to make up for it.

I thought this was well done. Quite a bit of fight filler in the beginning, but I'm not complaining. Delivered some good Cat Viper face porn during that one sequence.
I fully expected the ending shot to have some level of censorship, and honestly, it could have been worse. At least we were allowed to see the severed stump unlike the episode where Kyros cut off puppet Doflamingo's head. Outside of the additional blood stains/wounds, were were spared the close-ups of blood dripping from their severed limbs.

Damn nekomushi blocked jack knifes with his smoke pipe.
The filler fighting was excellent best part of the episode, cool cat viper fighting animated by kazuya hisada(thinks so) and duke dog by mitsui yochi.
Episode was better then the chapter it was based on imo.
-
The fighting in the beginning of the episode was how last week's episode should have been. About time they actually got creative with the fighting since they bragged about showing off more of the two rulers' skills in a certain interview.

Meh. I think it's crap Toei censored so much blood from the torture scene. I mean… they look so clean. Ruins the impact.
Perriot's Naruto Shippuden anime is targeted at the same demographic, yet they gave us this... with two human kids, no less. No excuse for Toei being so squeamish.
-
the chapter in the manga was better (like almost always is), but the episode was not too shabby, but the quality of the content helped a lot in that regard
didn't mind the filler fight at the beginning..in fact that what i was hoping for at the beginning of dressrosa, that they would have made filler with the colosseum battles since there were so many fighters with so many different abilities just asking for a bit of creativity…instead we got still reaction shot galore
-
episode was great, especially in HD
animation was better than usual and the filler fights were well executed
really like the music choice and pacing too
-
i don't see the problem, they did not censor that much, just blood on the stands they were hanging from and possibly (need to rewatch it…) they removed the chain hanging around Nekomamushi's throat.
the fade to black and then back to Wanda, just before their arm/leg gets cut off, is also in the manga...
also, with Naruto...... that show has a different time slot.... which means they should be able to show more?
-
The subs on the video I used for the episode said "Ice Burn" for Brook's attack, while in the manga chapter it had apparently been the German "Eisbahn", which would make more sense lol. So what is the truth?

Naruto is also full of censorship, but that was a key scene. And torture is much darker. It's not like the OP anime never had similar scenes to that one.
!

I loved this episode, and honestly think it was better than the chapter (can't believe they managed to squeeze out that much out of not even all of 810), with natural extensions and actual fight filler. The only offputting thing I saw was the brief shot of the pirates and the minks fighting in the foreground while Jack and Neko face each other, but that hardly detracts from anything.
And I do like that the revelation of Caesar's gas weapon was withheld to to this episode; it was a fine enough cliffhanger for a manga chapter but came right at the beginning of the flashback, which felt kind of weird in the long run.

I suppose. But I still think Naruto's anime gets away with much more. I mean, I doubt we'd see anything like this in the One Piece anime:
But I suppose I should be grateful it's not the super-kidified no-blood-fun-fest that is Dragonball Super.

While I really liked the episode and thought it was pretty good, I am quite annoyed. They didn't adapt the manga panels faithfully.
-
I remember a Naruto episode where a frog spits high pressured water at a monster; cutting it in half and causing blood to rain from the sky.
Not super relevant to the censorship talk… I just thought it was awesome.

Considering that 810 leaped between manga panels at a pretty fast rate, it made sense for them to be drawn out and made more organic.
