What a great chapter for Sanji.
Chapter 839: "I Shall Never Forget The Debt That I Owe You"
-
-
Fair to say we will see upgrades on Sanji techniques and Ninji is good as dead.
-
For old time's sake:
-
I'm guessing that's what he was reffering :D
Damn those Vinsmokes really like to be disliked.
I'm also guessing that Yonji and the sister will turn "good".
-
Chapter feels quite short. But maybe that's because last chapter feels much more eventful than this one. It is still quite enjoyable and we got to see more about the Vinsmokes, which proved to be major scums resorting to blackmails and mistreating servants with their pompous ass. I don't get why they're choosing alliance with Big Mom and risking their status and relations with the WG. I guess they know something about the world political dynamics shifting away from the WG and making a gamble. Or Jajji is really that desperate to conquer North Blue. His probably running for time.
That exposition on the end though raised many questions in people's head. Though I'll be really interested on how Oda will address the issue of cloning and genetic engineering in humans, I hope that is not the case here because it's pretty heavy shit. Still hoping that the Germa were just modified humans like Kuma.
Sanji is put between a rock and a hard place. And he expected that he can settle everything easily and go back to the SH. I'm glad Luffy decides to follow him. We'll probably have him against his 3 brothers at the same time in the future. You know this Super Sentais always gang up on the monster of the week, and also to mirror Sanji's past with them. Of course, he'll beat them and maybe they can forget about ruling north blue again and treat their people well instead. I really wish for Sanji to do something hype-y in the near future, maybe demonstrate some CoC or shit.
-
This chapter shows why Sanji deserved to win this year's tournament.
@Steakbrine:Thank you! More questions appear with each chapter. It just made me forget about Luffy and Cracker, hope the next chapter gives more information about Vinsmokes and reveals the purpose of that room.
I think the purpose is pretty obvious.
-
@Mr.:
The Zeff threat just makes matters worse for Sanji. Even if Sanji frees himself of his shackles, he still can't defy The Judge because it would mean the end of Zeff.
This leads me to believe that we will likely see the Big Mom Pirates turn against Germa at some point, which will entirely free Sanji from their threats. Because the chapter strongly suggests that the Big Mom Pirates will be the assassins operating on Germa's behalf.
Now the whole business with the clones (cyborgs?) raises a few questions. Are they alive? Will they require Big Mom's DF power to give life to an otherwise lifeless puppet? Probably the former because otherwise there would be no point in keeping them in those vats.
Lastly, the last one's resemblance to Vergo seems too much of a coincidence, yet at this point could very well be. Or at least a troll. Because Vergo being some sort of ex-Germa bred soldier raises quite a few questions in its own right that aren't easy to answer.
Didn't we see Vergo as a 10 year old with Doflamingo? I didn't see any babies or kids in those liquid chambers. Maybe we'll get better views next chapters.
A possible scenario would be they are cloning current Vergo meaning Vergo (and Monet?) escaped Punk Hazard and were rescued/captured by Big Mom/Vinsmoke family.
-
What is exactly the meaning of Ryo's bounty? How much is his debt?
-

Or vergo is the boba fett to the clones jengo fett, star wars order 66 and all.
-
The Vinsmokes getting their shit kicked in is going to feel all the more sweeter now.
-
What is exactly the meaning of Ryo's bounty? How much is his debt?
The debt thing in the title is referring to what Sanji said to Zeff before he left.
-
The debt thing in the title is referring to what Sanji said to Zeff before he left.
I am not talking about the title, but the bounty on RYo's wanted poster.
-
While we're on Ryo, what is the meaning of the "E" sort of symbol the Straw Hats are painting over his bounty poster ? I feel I'm missing a reference here.
In other news, it's really nice to see some Sanji characterization. It had been somewhat lacking for the Straw Hats at large (some more than others) ever since they split in Dressrosa, and even what we saw before hadn't been that great.
-
I was surprised the cook got badly beaten up, it's the first time we have seen a girl that brutally beaten since Robin at enies lobby.
-
What is exactly the meaning of Ryo's bounty? How much is his debt?
No, it's how much he's worth, as with any wanted poster. As if Oda would do a tribute to him and expose his debt to his readers. His contributions to the manga scene are priceless hence the crazy/un-affordable bounty.
Anyway, great chapter, something tells me Rei is admiring Sanji's chivalrous ways and might end up helping him when the strawhats arrive on the scene. I hope ichi and ni are actually strong and give Sanji a bit of a beat down first before getting owned later.
-
To fuck with him and/or to show that the common people are truly worth nothing because we can just grow more.
Exactly this! Yeah, we have beaten up that Girl. So what? We can grow new ones if we wanted to. Once cloning (or hax-healing) can be done, the "Value of life" is worth less. That is what Oda wanted to Show us IMO.

For old time's sake:
This scene still makes me cry, apparently. I love how there's a new layer added to this with the recent development of Sanji. I can't be a 100% sure of course, but Zeff's "don't catch a cold" might be the first fatherly thing Sanji has ever heard and that's what makes him so emotional in the farewell. Zeff was a father figure to him for many years prior, of course, but especially with this chapter it's cemented how important Zeff is to Sanji. The Vinsmokes are perhaps a little bit too evil and assholish to my liking, but eh, that's a minor complaint since I've mostly really enjoyed this arc.

The "3" is ryo's signatural eyebrow. the Ends of the "3" are "dotted", just like Ryo's eyebrow(s).

This post is deleted!

There's a Metal Gear joke here
@Roronoa:The "3" is ryo's signatural eyebrow. the Ends of the "3" are "dotted", just like Ryo's eyebrow(s).
Funny enough "3" also fits for a Sanji focused chapter.
-
Ichiji is taller and seems to be much bigger than his other siblings. Very interesting design choice.

Yeah, totally!
But now I can see what Kind of Technology Comes in Handy for BM: If you can duplicate humans, BM has a huge pool of resources for her ability (her People still have the choice to leave in her worst-case).
And Judge already stated how large BM's Intel Network is. Sure comes in Handy for his conquer of North Blue. -

no he means the bounty under the pic
-
About Sanji beating Niji: it is a given. But to silence all the "Sanji's power-up during the TS is totally lame!", Sanji Need to take out all 3 Brothers at once.
Yonji's defeat was offpanel, but Sanji still has beaten him, so it'd be lame if the same occurs to Niji.
No, Sanji Needs to beat all 3 Brothers in a 3 vs 1 fight for a real "upper-badass-monster-trio-worthy" Moment!
Everything below would be OK, but with a Kind f "meh"-taste tbh.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
no he means the bounty under the pic
He wrote "the Kind of "e"-Symbol the SHs are painting above his bounty poster".
I don't get the bounty-amount tbh, is it the volume-number or sth? no idea. -
Thoughts on the chapter:
- So yeah Oda is basically really pushing the Germa = Nazi's symbolism. Especially with the what i presume is an eagle in the background behind Judge.
- Man the vinsmokes are such pieces of shit. I don't think I've hated anyone as badly as I hate Niji ever since Saint Charloss in Sabaoday.
- Really love Sanji being such a perfect gentleman and stopping the plate from hitting Cosette and complementing her cooking.
- Also love the zoro callback with Sanji eating food of the floor even though everyone else thinks its dirty.
- The wind pressure from Niji's kick made me think of the dials from Skypeia. Really interested to see if Germa are indeed cyborgs
- Love the Sanji, Zeff flashbacks. They made me tear up a bit
- Jesus Oda. Now I really want to see Niji just get massacred.
- WTF is happening with the dude bros. Are they clones or robots
I honestly can't say where WCI is going but I'm excited to see where Oda takes it. Either way I want Sanji to get a powerup and for him to wreck his brothers. Like I really want to see them get fucked up.
-
Uh, that's… wow. This explains why Vergo went out so freakin' easily. Damn.
Also, as kinda stereotypically evil the Vinsmokes are, it's very effective villainy to me. This also explained that Sanji ran away and also that he still probably had some of those attitudes from the Vinsmokes when he left them, so it is a very nice character arc outlined here for Sanji. I loved this chapter.
-
it's so obvious that the one who beat cosette is raiju. as if oda would let himself draw a man doing this. and she has been silent since the start so she is the most evil one. classic trope.
-
Kinda random. But I'm surprised Oda has all the SH in plain T shirts.
-

Didn't Oda drew Diamante pummeling a mace on Rebecca before?
-
Didn't Oda drew Diamante pummeling a mace on Rebecca before?
actually that was Rebecca's helmet and most of it was destroyed
-
can't wait for niji to get the same treatment as bellamy in jaya and st carlos in sabaody. it will be very satisfying.
-
Another Vinsmoke focused chapter!
So, where does everyone get Nazi Germany from the Vinsmokes? I get an evil Power Rangers vibe from them. Is anyone willing to clarify this for me?
For a guy who ran away from royalty, Sanji's acting more princely than his brothers! He actually cares for the well-being of others, like the girl who made the food for them, he even ate it off the floor to make sure it wouldn't go to waste whereas the rest of them wouldn't even appreciate the food. I guess this shows how different Sanji is from his family.
Our boi Sanji's in a real pinch now. If he tries to rebel against the wedding, Judge will order for Zeff to be assassinated, and if he tries to escape, his hands go boom (and Zeff will also most likely be assassinated). Will Sanji be able to act against any of this in some way, or will he be relegated to the classic damsel in distress?
I wonder, how will those clones play a role in the future? Someone said on this thread that they may come to life through BM's Soul-Soul Fruit, but now that I think about it the ability doesn't work on humans, unless there's a loophole to exploit?
Reiju has got me curious about her. What's her stance in this situation? Does she want Sanji to be happy or does she not give a flying hoot about him?
All in all, this is a great chapter to start off with after the break. The next chapter will most likely go back to Luffy, Nami and Pound but I wanna know what happening with Pekoms or Jinbei.
P.S.- I hope Niji gets his just desserts first after beating Cosette unconscious like that! No man should EVER hurt a lady in that fashion or at all! (Sorry, I got a little worked up after seeing that panel.)
-

Yeah it's obvious that Niji wouldn't be the one to do it even though he just threw a plate at her and is petty enough to get back at Sanji any way he can.
Oda drew men harming women plenty of times in Dressrosa.

Guess you never saw the nazi-Reichstag or any nazi-Parade onhistorical pics.
The Banners with White circles in them, the eagle, the 45°-rotated squares. The whole Dining room screams "nazi-interior!". -
Germa's ultimate goal was retaking North Blue right? I wonder if Niji was actually the one to beat up Cosette, Yonji might just be trying to pin his two brothers against each other. If it is like that I think Ichiji was the one to do it, he was all silent before they left the table.
-
i can't wait to see sanji kick his father ass

well im sorry if you can't see the evidence. and yonji saying it was niji make it an obvious red herring. oda is probably setting up a "fight" involving sanji and reiju when sanji will learn the truth.

not at all

But not, that I can recall, to the point it left an otherwise innocent woman beaten and bloody like Cosette
-
If Reiju has beaten up that Girl, she is way more sneak-bitchy than I thought. Still IDK where I should put her. She saved Luffy from his poisoning or did she just do it, cause she liked the taste of that poison?
I'd want a Situation where the 3 Brothers are threatening Nami and Sanji finally 1HKOs each one of them. I hope it KINDA wraps up this way, cause they can't threaten Pudding, BM's daughter. -
i can't shake the feeling that in the end it's reiju that made a mess out of the little chef
-
Would've been pretty cool if Sanji said something along the lines off ''hmph! Good luck taking down the shitty old man!'' but I guess the Zeff hypetrain reached a screeching halt after Baratie. I'm sort of hopeful that we get to see him after the arc has finished with a couple of freshly beaten up Germa-mooks crawling at his feet. Maybe a pipedream but I do have my thing for kung fu grandpas..
Not so sure how I feel about the Germa66 nazi-symbolism as if to hammer the point that the Vinsmokes are bad guys. A bit cheap but I'll let it slide.
-
i can't shake the feeling that in the end is reiju that made a mess out of the little chef
THIS should start a sexism-debate, cause if Oda really depicts Girls in such a mean, sneaky way, IDK how female Readers would react to that.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Sanji's coolest Moment in this chapter was him (not) reacting to Yonji's laughter, when he said "Yo, Niji, you left sth on that plate."
-
For old time's sake:
I get the feeling that Sanji doesn't like his servants disrespected and bowing to him
So here we have a royal prince bowing down to a common pirate and chef… But also man bowing down to someone whom he considers his father. Huh this scene means a lot more in retrospect. -
Pretty entertaining chapter, I love how Sanji was just watching the kick. As if he saw it coming and could have reacted to it if need be, he must be faster than him. However that was a lot of wind coming off that swing, I wonder if he uses his feet primarily or all limbs equally. I was surprised how they were all sitting down so peaceful eating lunch/dinner. The sister I think is the only one that was not cloned and they have built an army of enhanced clones to try and fight Big Mom. Interesting plan if you aren't strong enough to take her on head on. Also with clones you don't have to worry about her stealing their souls. I will probably read it another 3/4 times, so much is missed on the first read.
-

I'll take a look at the evidence when you actually show me some.

not at all
while i'm suspicious too that it's not niji but reiju the cullprit..you can't really call that evidence
it's a suspicion at best -

Wouldn't it preferable to say what the evidence is, or link/quote a post describing it, than mock someone for not seeing it themselves?
-

the evidence is pretty simple. oda has never shown a man beating up a pretty girl. it has always been a girl beating up a girl. that alone would be enough but that's not all.
oda love doing twist. the twist he is pretty simple. oda wants his readers to think that neiji is the one who beat the girl. everything points towards neiji so you have to think that it's someone else. this someone else has to be a woman and we have here a woman very quiet who is smiling all time and seems nice with sanji so you understand that oda is doing his best to make reiju the less suspicious possible to make his twist better. -
One of the best chapters of One Piece. Never thought I see Sanji interacting with his family and on such a powerful level. Brings me back to when I first starting liking Sanji.
