Has a character from any other series suffered as much or worse than Trunks?I also feel bad for Kid trunks getting cucked by his counterpart, how long until he snaps?
Using a mainstream example, have you heard of Guts from Berserk?

On one hand I am really liking this arc, but they need to get a little more serious if you ask me. We've had enough jokes so far, and this Black looks like a serious fighter. I wouldn't mind just getting an arc with a little less silly jokes or crying, and just get to some good fighting.
it's a real disgrace to show flashbacks in Dragon Ball Super. This is when you see the difference and the lack of epicness between Z and Super. This series is joke now for crybabys and Pokemon GO players. What beautiful generation we have… (irony) GT was better after 52 episodes. Where are those epic battles and music?

I don't get the logic how are Super fans crybabies when they aren't the ones constantly complaining about the quality of the animation every 2 minutes and the slice of life elements? Also what in the blue blazes does Pokemon Go have to do with this? @BingBang:

Yeah okay I also wouldn't call that irony since GT wasn't really all that well liked.

Difference is that Trunks didnt get "penetrated" when he was young. @Condoriano:

I have the feeling we are gonna have some kind of plot-twist about Zamasu/Black, the yellow Kai from the preview(which looks to be the Grand Kai of U10) might kick the bucket…
GT was better after 52 episodes. Where are those epic battles and music?
For what it's worth I hope that epic music he's referring to wasn't what was used in the dub :ninja:
Anyone that thinks GT was good is remembering about 4 episodes out of the 52 and blocking out the rest. I say this as someone that'll regularly defend GT's good points.
Anyone that thinks Dragonball should stop being fun and character based and just have some more badass fighting is missing out on what actually made Dragonball good and probably thinks the Android Saga was the best part of the series.
Anyone complaining about the animation, might have a valid point up against some super high budget modern limited episode run like One Punch Man, and some episodes have definitely been off… but is also nostalgia-goggling the old 500 episodes and overlooking the sheer amount of bad animation or typical anime still framing that also had, and the horrendous slow pacing where characters would taunt each other for twenty minutes with a punch or two in the middle.
Dragonball is fantastic, I love it, its still the best pure Shonen out there. One Piece is better, but Dragonball is absolutely its father and gets it appropriate respect for it. But... the old anime definitely had flaws. Lots and lots of flaws.
@Purple:
its yur only argument really xD? i can show yu more than 30 stupid scenes in Super.
You can show him whatever you want it's still going to be a matter of your preference vs everyone else's with some further snark and rebuke of your opinions.
Where are those epic battles and music?
You want an exact copy of Z? Rewatch it then, and spare us your crying. @Kishido:
It isn't about Gohan being weak or that he is happy with his family. That actually is really nice and I loved the Pan scenes… But still he hasn't given no fuckss about Trunks and the reason why someone from the FUTURE is coming back with the risk to fuck up the timelines again...
And Trunks never opened his mouth and talked about the other Gohan. If anything they both failed at that. Would it be that much out of character if Trunks just bawled his eyes out in the arms of Gohan?

Of course not… But still Future Trunks was the one coming to the past all torn up for the visit. Someone who would notice it would just ask it.
On the Super VS GT thing, I would just like to point out that while I have owned GT on DVD for like three years now, I've yet to even make it through the first arc, because it's just SUCH a chore to sit through… Meanwhile I'm still watching Super every week. (The Beerus-arc REALLY tested my patience though... way to completely ruin what was originally a pretty enjoyable movie.)
Super suffers from taking every suspense by starting with the two movies, and then a random tournament arc , goku black at least has lured me into seeing it. While gt, the robot planet was a chore, and most wild planets looked bad with that terrible color palette . Baby and super 17 were as uninspired and unoriginal as they come, and while the dragons were very interesting in concept, it all fell apart when Goku defeated all of them except the good one by himself or with pan exploiting their pokemon weakness, thing that doesn't mesh with dragon ball, as they usually give the opponent a chance and avoid the killing blow. The dragons acted like they were there for a long time, not only in personality but on the effect on the earth, but they were a day old when they died, and that's ignoring the terrible terrible designs, and the fact that they reused a finishing blow, and the end battle with the one star dragon was too close to the defeat of majin buu. Super 17 at least allowed some teamwork to hit the king picollo finisher dragon punch.
its yur only argument really xD? i can show yu more than 30 stupid scenes in Super.
That's fine with me. The stupid scenes are actually pretty entertaining. If anything, this is the actual enjoyable part of GT before you get into that Tuffle nonsense and the poorly executed evil dragons.
Oh, and this guy.
Let's not forget that dragonball started off and was strongly well received in part because of the comedic value.
GT has about 20 minutes of watchable footage.

why do db fans hate on gt
I liked GT as a kid, I remember crying at the end because I thought it would be the last of Dragonball (how naive of me ahaha). I haven't watched it since, outside of a few select scenes though so I don't hate it as vehemently as other Dragonball fans seem to. I listen to the OP every now and again and I can't help but remember it fondly

Hunter x Hunter?JoJo?Oh and the Para Para brothers make Pilaf Gang look like the Strawhats.
Hunter x Hunter?JoJo?Oh and the Para Para brothers make Pilaf Gang look like the Strawhats.
Both good series in their own ways with their own styles, but Dragonball is still the best pure Shonen, and the most successful for a reason. It gets the adventure and action and comedy mix just right for the most part for most of its run while being incredibly well paced and full of likeable, memorable characters It nails all the good bits.
HxH is more a deconstruction of shonen than an embracing of it, and Jojo is so over the top, extreme and posed, that it's style overshadows its substance somewhat. You could also have pointed to Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fist of the North Star, Kenshin,Naruto, Negima, Inu Yasha, Bakuman, or any number of other successful shonen series, that cover a wide range of stories and styles, in or out of Jump, none of them quite nail what Dragonball nailed.
Even One Piece, as brilliant and expansive as it is, building and growing from the template Dragonball built, has at this point become a bit overwhelmed by its own length and scope and massive cast… and it absolutely owes like 80% of its existence to Dragonball anyway. It is it's child and would not be the same without it.
...and what do filler GT villains have to do with anything?
@mario:
why do db fans hate on gt
Because the character designs are awful (including old characters like Vegeta) the comedy is bad, the pacing for a series that had no filler is bad, the characters are out of character, it foresakes a lot of development from the end of Z, the character designs were funky, and the plots were extra nonsensival, and the action wasn't handed very well. Overall its just stupid a lot of the time.
The last few minutes of the last episode are pretty great through , a much better ending than the original had.

GT has about 20 minutes of watchable footage.
To say that you saw all the episodes then. Some comments are pure gold.

The epilogue, made mostly of non gt material.
Say what you will, Vegeta fishing for compliments after shaving is still one of the peaks of his entire character

I was ten years old, I watched anything Toonami put on after 8.
It was really easy to catch all of GT by accident as background noise. There was a point in time where Cartoon Network was airing 2-3 hours of dragonball a day, every day, seven days a week. They fudged around the GT release schedule (starting in the second half) and didn't rerun it to death the way they did Z, but the few times they aired it in full it was entirely possible to see the whole thing in about 2 weeks when they were at their peak ratings obsession with it.
They later did the same thing with Naruto and that's what ultimately killed Toonami.
Myself I saw a sizeable chunk of GT in bootleg form back in 99 when you took any damn dragonball you could find, so I had movies 5-8, Trunks killing Frieza, the last dozen episodes of Buu, the first few GT episodes, the Super 18 fight, and the final dragons, and the GT special with GOku Jr. (and that one was raw japanese no subtitles) as my main Dragonball fix, long before Cartoon Network got around to airing the end of the Namek saga. (I also had tapes of some of the actual domestic release but the series was so damn long had to pick and choose… and then eventually dvds of some of the highlights)
I remember catching GT (with no subs) on the International Channel after having watched most of Z's Buu arc. Then we got switched over to Satellite, nothing of value was lost…...except I never got to see the end of Slayers Try which had also been airing.

Martial arts for the win–- Update From New Post Merge ---why do db fans hate on gt
I think for me it was that the story, the style, and the characters seemed like knock offs of the original. I know that seems like a dumb thing to say as it was a continuation, but ultimately it just didn't feel the same. I couldn't bring myself to like pan or the robot dragon radar. The idea of the black star dragon balls seemed honestly just dumb. The fact that Goku started the series with a power down felt a bit contrived, and made it such that most of the starting villains where comparably just not that great because they were competing and loosing to a powered down hero. Admittedly the dragons were an interesting idea, but even they didnt really capture my attention the way that some of the Z villains had.
Dumbest thing about GT is the senseless hate it gets.
Hey man, if you enjoy GT, that's fine and dandy. Some people like the silly parts, some people like the conceptual ideas (although oftentimes not the execution). But (this is directed towards BingBang) pinning it down as a great successor of Z because it's "epic", has blood and scars, and doesn't show future trunks as the "gay version they did now for stupid kids" means that you kinda miss the point. And also the fact that the entire audience of dragon ball that it aims for is literally adolescents (mixed in with some sentiments of homophobia).
That isn't to say that Super is a flawless piece of work especially when the tournament had basically no stakes involved, but at least judge it on its appropriate merits rather than saying "this character is so gay i don't know why stupid kids like him"
Dumbest thing about GT is the senseless hate it gets.
Between Vegeta sporting a stupid haircut and a tacky looking mustache, Goku being aged back into a kid for literally no reason,
The earth being blown up in the first arc despite Goku and Co trying to prevent it, Piccolo's cheap and senseless death, Pan,
The awful villains, SS4, etc there's few things to not hate on where GT is concerned.
I remember watching Toonami and it airing mostly Dragonball and DBZ back to back for a while throughout the week, my first glimpse of GT was when I got a DBGT VHS for my birthday from a friend in like 5th grade. It was the chunk of episodes in the Baby saga where Goku transforms into Super Saiyan 4 for the first time. The Hollywood Video near my house had most of DBGT for rental so I watched it that way, outside of the "lost episodes" they later aired.
GT was really bad but I would take Super Saiyan in concept and design over that shitty recolored god shit every time.

Hey, Vegestache and SS4 looked cool. Atleast they had put some effort into the new Saiyan form. Little Goku is debatable, because it was needed for the more adventurous first part, which I liked.
To earth and Piccolo, well, death was cheap and meaningless already at that moment. Pan wasn't more annoying than Chichi for me. And for the "awful" villains or stupidity, where is the difference between them and the villains and stupidity happening in the other DBs? They are evil, they are strong, they search for beef with Goku.
Hey, Vegestache
If it were a goatee or even just a simple beard like what they did in Super albeit temporarily it'd look much better but that look wasn't popping at all.
and SS4 looked cool. Atleast they had put some effort into the new Saiyan form.
Minus the red fur and the matching eyeliner.
Little Goku is debatable, because it was needed for the more adventurous first part, which I liked.
Needed so much that not only did Goku eventually obtain the ability to go SS4 which somehow temporarily turns him back to his original age but after all was said and done they kept him as a kid even when they didn't need to.
Pan wasn't more annoying than Chichi for me.
Pan felt more or less like the token female someone felt needed to be added to the cast. Not that Goten would've been a better fit as the third member of the expedition into space.
And for the "awful" villains or stupidity, where is the difference between them and the villains and stupidity happening in the other DBs? They are evil, they are strong, they search for beef with Goku.
They're bland, boring, and in the case of Super 17 not original?
I love some of the designs for the evil dragons at the end. Especially the Four Star Dragon and the big one with a cigar. Better than the new Super Dragon in my opinion.
Lazy recolours will never be anywhere as awful as eyeliner, mullet and a fursuit with emphasized manboobs combo.
I got a bit carried away and wall of texted this shit. Wathever. Just felt like it.
I'm not closely following this Super series, but looking at it from time to time and looking at what seem to be the top moments, I feel it has some very, very noticeable problems.
The first being the tension. The first two arcs (based on the last movies) lack a real threat. Beerus is strong as hell, but the atmosphere is so exceedingly chill that. . .you just don't get into panic gear. Freeza is full blown evil and means business, but the fact that 1.Beerus is there and almost stated to be stronger than him, 2.Goku pretty early in the fight admits that Freeza's new power has a "fatal flaw", which Freeza never rises above, 3. Vegeta is there in case things go sour, just watching, makes it very hard to get invested in the fight for real.
A second terrible flaw is the reusing of ideas. Things like Freeza coming back directly followed by a tournament with a "Freeza from another universe!" are pretty serious, but what takes the cake is this new saga (which, apparently, is so far the best by far, but wathever). People freaking the fuck out because "Dressrosa is basically Alabasta 2.0! In Big Mom's island there's a forest with talking trees, so TOTALLY a copy-paste from Thriller Bark!" I guess just died when seeing the premise for the new arc. Let's see: Future Trunks is facing a dire situation against a superior foe he can't defeat, with his loved ones dying and him being force to travel to the past to seek Goku's aid. Hmmm. Hmmmmmmmm. I mean, there aren't parallels or anything, it's the Exact. Same. Premise. As the android Saga. Exact. And the cherry on top is, of course, that this time, the evil guy. . .is an evil Goku. So you create the exact same scenario and can't even create an original villain.
Third flaw, yeah, could see that coming, could you? Secondary cast usage. Now, credit where credit its due, the guys get to participate in a big fight against Freeza's soldiers. Ok. They have their own everyday lives, which is cool. They get to participate in gags. But still, the meat and potatoes of Dragon Ball is the fighting and, once again, it ALL falls to 1.Goku and 2.Vegeta. It's just. . .so easy. It's the easy way out. I know it can still change, but we're into the 4th arc, and so far, it's all been Goku and Vegeta. I mean, if I got this right, apparently Gohan was suddenly striken by the need to get stronger again and protect his family, started training seriously with Piccolo, and 4 chapters later Piccolo literally said "Gohan is NOT into training at all, he just wants to be with his family"? Did that succession of events REALLY happen? Cause that's what I've read in this very thread. That's the very definition of half assed writing. Right there.
And finally, I'd say the look of the anime is another flaw. Here's where I say "the manga at least looks better and gets the fighting feel down just right enough", even if it's basically the same stuff. The color palette makes things look inoffensive, the animation can't convey danger or speed or strength in any of the fights, things look too safe. . .now, yeah, they went back to the lighter, more humor oriented roots of the original Dragon Ball adventures, and that's great, but even there shifts were made when needed. When Tao Pai Pai appeared, the comedy almost entirely stopped so we could feel this new danger. And we did. Then it was back to zaninness with Goku training with a talking cat, being tricked into drinking normal water and thinking it's magic, etc. . .but that moment when Tao Pai Pai appears and things suddenly get really dangerous is there. It seems this new series is constantly telling you that there's no need to worry, no one's in real danger, there's laughs to be had, everyone is always chilling on the side while Goku and Vegeta fight the (mostly not particularly evil) villain of the week.
I guess this is what makes this new saga cool? The fact that danger is thrown at us right from the start?
Yesterday I was watching the Frieza movie; now I´d like to go on with Super (I started last year, but did not really follow thru). I was wondering if I would miss anything important if I start with episode 27 (the first one after Frieza is defeated)?

not really miss much, just two short pop ups of Champa & Vados that are just teases.–-Apparently The Frieza Movie is getting a TV Airing with some New Footage that Involves Mecha-Freiza's Encounter with Future Trunks.http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/dragon_s/news/news2016072101.html
Its official
Its from the new Guidebook, confirming how the Pilaf Gang got young..
i'm glad that shenron was nice enough to give them clothes and pacifiers
what a nice guy
:ninja::ninja::ninja:
Seeing how small Trunks still is, it had to have been a year after Yamcha and Krillin made their wishes.
It also further raises the question as to why people don't have a problem with Pilaf and crew hanging around. I know they only ever encountered them a few times but those were pretty major events in the lives of the characters and it's kind of hard not to make a connection between the dog, the dark-haired girl, and whatever Pilaf is.

Probably because they aren't a threat.
Oh nvm what I said earlier, its Jump Festa stuff(part of the promotional book).
