Sofia Coppola, she was fired from the screens. The acting on that woman was atrocious.
I don't know how you can "fire from the screens" (?) someone who'd make Lost in Translation 13 years later.

So there's this movie reviewer that i follow on youtube, he's called Bandit Incorporated, he made this video basically summarizing everything Sony did to cover it's ass from the backlash. watch it with a grain of salt, the title is kinda stupid.
if you're still skeptical tho and want more details, you can watch Midnight's half hour video where he digs deep into this whole thing.
Even if the audiences do end up hating it, that's not to say the Ghostbusters franchise is eternally ruined. Since there was another film that copied the premise of the original in much lower quality, and it was released a while ago.

Hanz was talking about Godfather III ending her acting career, which was a mercy killing to say the least.
My feelings about this movie has always been pretty simple: If the people whom I usually trust say it's worth seeing, I'll see it, if not, I'll pass. But all of this controversy and whining is really ruining everything. It's just a movie. It won't ruin the original if it's bad. The sequel didn't. It won't ruin your childhood. Some people will love it. That's the way it goes.

Ghostbusters 2 looks like it has a story behind it's divisiveness and appearant causing of th franchise to go dormant.
Just saw it.
The movie was REALLY good… like holy crap.
If the original was a 10/10, This one is easily a 9.
A few of the jokes fell flat tbh, like the fart joke and the Patty crowd surfing drop thing, but the sour jokes were few and far between.
That movie was just so fun and great! Holtzman stole that goddamn movie....
Oh cool. The internet has been eroding my positivity towards this movie but your post just made me look forward to it again. Thank you~
(it's not coming out here for two more weeks)

Would you say the jokes they decided to put in the trailer fell under the 'flat' ones?
Once the movie is released on Redbox then I'll take a look at it and see for myself of this movie is good enough to become my favorite
Leading up to its release, the actresses were saying how men hate the movie because they're sad and childish. But in the movie, they shit on men, insult all male characters, and
! shoot the main villain in the dick. Double, f***ing, standards. The movie is totally mediocore btw, typical nonstop snl gags, some are just lame as hell and nice Eddie Murphy haunted house cgi. Characters and villains are so underdeveloped.
I enjoyed it. It's not going to set the world on fire (the music & the villain suck, and the comedy is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from Feig, which at times can be grating), but McKinnon's great, and when they go serious it's really good (though sadly this happens very infrequently). It's sad that it doesn't have the same feel as the Ramis ghostbuster films, but I walked into this with the same mindset as I did with the RDJ Holmes movies - take them on their own and don't think of them as successors to a franchise - and just like the RDJ films, I left the cinema happy having watched a perfectly enjoyable film.
Ghostbusters pulled $17 million on Friday and is estimated to make around $46 million for the weekend. I'd say that's not exactly a "bomb".
Oh cool. The internet has been eroding my positivity towards this movie but your post just made me look forward to it again. Thank you~

Np, just my opinion on the movie. I forget, is this the opinion that makes me a Misogynist jerk, or part of a Feminist conspiracy? I'm having a hard time keeping track, but the internet has assured me I must be one of these things if I have an opinion on this movie. lol
Would you say the jokes they decided to put in the trailer fell under the 'flat' ones?
I'll go a little more in depth in a spoiler tag, but yeah, for the most part.
Two of three of the jokes worked better in context of the movie, but for the most part they fell flat. Like, I still hated the movie's one fart joke… Actually, I'll get into the jokes that fell flat in a spoiler post because again, a couple of them worked better in context. Just know, none of these are MAJOR spoilers, but someone who wants to go in blind might consider them very minor spoilers so, you've been warned:
! - I hated the fart joke. Abby and Holtzman trick Erin into listening to an EVP recording which they insist shows something spooky, which really just makes a fart sound. Holtzman makes a cringeworthy followup to it that kinda had me worried since this is one of the first jokes of the movie, but it never really goes there again thankfully. I can't remember if it was in the trailer, but
! - Kevin coming up with the Logos was a tad funnier in the movie because that wasn't the only one he made, and the others were funny. You were supposed to think that first one was laughably pathetic, but then you realize that's the one he put the most effort into, and his other attempts are worse. I won't say what he did because it was funny and I don't want to spoil that bit, but yeah, better than the trailer let on.
! - Holtzman's scene where she scares Erin with the wig and hat was definitely funnier in the movie since, by this time, you've seen a LOT of Holtzman and you've gotten to know her a lot, so the scene reads less "Desperate for a laugh" and more "That character you've kinda started getting to know being herself". I won't say it made it a laugh out loud moment, but I definitely appreciated it way more in the movie.
! - The "Let's go" interruption thing also made more sense in the movie. That one I wouldn't credit as really particularly funny either, even in the final movie, and the fact that they portrayed it as kindof a joke was weird. In the movie, those two characters Erin and Abby were best friends who had a falling out so they're a little awkward. Part of the story is kinda them reconciling, so this little awkward moment didn't really make me laugh, but in the movie it felt like it was furthering that plot thread so it was appreciated more for that and less as a "Joke".
! - The Patty crowd surfing scene was just as bad in the movie. The "I don't know if it's a race thing or a lady thing" part. It comes out of nowhere and there isn't really a lead in to it. It just feels unnecessary entirely.
! - The posession scene wasn't played off as funny in the movie, she was supposed to be a threat and the tone played towards that, tho Patty's over the top attempt at getting the ghost out was pretty forced and bad. That "POWER OF PAIN COMPELS YOU!" thing just flat out wasn't funny, even tho I got the impression it was supposed to be.
So yeah, really poorly cut trailer tbh. Like I said, a FEW of those scenes benefitted from context, so it's possible whoever cut the trailer liked them based on the context but forgot that… you sometimes NEED that context for them to make sense? I don't know, but yeah. Trailer in no way represents the quality of the finished film.
As for more in-depth thoughts on the movie itself, Gonna put these in spoiler tags too. Fair warning, the above ones were minor about the stuff in the trailer, these ones will be major spoilers, so you have been warned.
! - It KINDA follows the plot of the original 1984 flick to some extent, but it does a LOT of things different at the same time.
! - At a glance, the characters seem to just be female versions of the original 4. Holtzman is obviously Egon, Patty is Winston etc, however, a bunch of things got changed up.
Nobody is Venkman. There's no equivalent to Venkman in the movie. The closest thing we get is a lot of Venkman-esque quirks that got split up among the characters. His pining over Dana went to Erin and her pining over Kevin, his status as the witty one went to Holtzman. Hell, Holtzman is the closest to being Venkman. Basically Egon + Venkman.
It's cool to me that they didn't try to recapture the dynamics of the original team and did go for something original here.
! - One thing I think this movie actually might have done better than the original was that it actually came up with a reason why ghosts haven't really been a serious thing in the past. I mean, in the first Ghostbusters, even before Gozer and Zuul start upping the paranormal stuff, you see the guys confront a fully formed Librarian ghost early on, and the movie does basically nothing to explain how, if ghosts are so obviously there and visible, how is it these guys are the first people to ever really doccument them? If these things are so obviously real, why does nobody believe them? The Mayor/EPA have a problem believing them at first. Why?
! The movie explains this by saying, basically, that there is a ghost plane and there is our plane, and they DO exist simultanously and parallel to one another, but are seprate, so the scant evidence we do get is when OCCASIONALLY the barrier between the two weakens a bit, but it never fully breaks. The Ghostbusters in the movie start seeing all the major activity they do because someone actively figures out how to break the barrier and proceeds to do that intentionally.
Also, in this, the Mayor's office is fully aware ghosts are a thing and the FBI are there basically trying to suppress the knowledge to prevent a panic. This all definitely makes it more plausible overall.
! - In this, they never open for business. The first few incidents of Ghostbusting they do is trying to catch a ghost to study and so they can prove their theories. They don't even get the firehouse right away. There's a funny joke where they're about to get the Firehouse until the price gets mentioned ($21,000/Mo) and they're like "Hell no".
It actually ends with, what I think might have been a plot point grabbed from Ghostbusters 3 (Aka: Ghostbusters: The Video Game) where the movie ends with them being fully funded by the state of New York and them affording the firehouse that way rather than going into private business.
! - Patty, the "Winston" of the group who is still not a scientist like the rest, DOES get a lot more to do this time around and feels like a more valued member of the team… I know the reason Winston kinda gets sidelined in the original a bit is because the part was originally written for a bigger actor (Eddie Murphy) but got downplayed when he passed... but it did kinda sit wrong for me that Winston wasn't given too much to do. Patty actually does get more to do in this, specifically, she's portrayed as loving the city and knowing a whole lot about it, and at a few points her knowledge about the city comes in handy. Like, I feel Winston was a little more "We hired another guy because we needed another guy to hold a proton pack", while Patty felt like she had an equal yet unique level of contribution.
! One of only a few things I think this movie did better tho, the original still beats it in a lot of other ways.
! - The final battle was really cool actually. Again, Holtzman stole the show, but everyone got some cool things for them to do during it and that was neat. The deluge of ghosts that stream out of the Hotel the bad guy opened the portal at partially took the form of a ghostly parade, with parade balloons, and the Stay Pufft Marshmellow Man was one of them. Which was neat.
! - Another thing they kept from the original but took a different spin on was that the final "Boss" does ask them what form they want him to take to destroy them, but instead of Stay Pufft, Patty asks for something "Cute and harmless" and then he turns into a cute version of their logo to mock them before growing into a giant scary version of it.
! - Crossing the streams isn't an issue in this one at all. It never gets mentioned once. It's not how they stop the bad guy in the end, tho they still cause what Holtzman calls a "Total Protonic Reversal", tho this time it's by dropping the Ecto 1 into the portal and hitting the equipment on it to basically blow it up.
! - Yeah, the crotch shot thing happens. The last of the eyeroll worthy things IMO tho, it's not as bad as I thought it'd be. I thought hitting the thing in the crotch was literally supposed to be what killed it, which is dumb as it's a ghost and that spot was flat on it. In the movie, this happens after they've blown up the Ecto-1 in the portal so it's sucking all the ghosts back into it, but the big one is resisting, so they shoot it so it loses its hold and flies into the portal. Nobody calls out "Shoot it in the crotch" before they fire but Patty does make a joke after where she's like "That's where we were supposed to hit it right?".
I'd be lying if I said I liked that particular bit, but It's just a stupid crotch shot joke. It's one of the few bad elements in an otherwise good movie.
! - Like I said, they become a city-sponsored thing when the Mayor's office realizes that they need to be ready if something like that happens again, so the bit from the Video game where they work directly for the state of New York is now a thing.
! - Post credits scene was sequel bait. Patty is listening to the EVP and I was worried for a second they were gonna redo the fart joke, easily a contender for worst joke in the movie, but instead they have her ask if anyone has heard of "Zuul".
! So yeah, they're doing the whole Zuul + Gozer thing for the next one. I REALLY Hope there's a next one.
Leading up to its release, the actresses were saying how men hate the movie because they're sad and childish.
I'm sorry, but can you cite a source on this? I'm looking through comments made by the cast and crew but can't find anything where they specifically say it's "Men" who are sad and childish. I've found them saying the people who were attacking the movie before they'd even started shooting were "Sad and Childish" but I can't find the part where they specifically state they meant that to be directed at "Men" in general. They always respond to "The Haters" or "The fan backlasIn fact.
Plus, some of it is sexist. It's naive to say absolutely NONE of the very vocal voices in the cacophony of hate this movie is getting is spurned on by sexism. I think it's a fallacy to say ALL of it is sexist, or even most of it is sexist. Some of it is there, but a person can have a negative opinion of the movie without it being sexist. Hell Paul Feig actually said this about the sexist comments he's seen:
@Paul Feig:
[The problem with the internet is it amplifies a few voices, That said, I'm always a fan of knowing what the zeitgeist is, even if it's a small percentage of it.
I love the internet because of that. We don't work in a vacuum – you've just got to make sure you don't allow the voices that are there to overwhelm.](http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/ghostbusters/videos/a800066/ghostbusters-director-and-cast-respond-to-backlash/)
This is him outright saying that he knows the sexism is a very vocal minority and not everyone criticisng the film is sexist. This is far from the "Man hating" you seem to think is going on.
But in the movie, they shit on men, insult all male characters, and
! shoot the main villain in the dick. Double, f***ing, standards.
I think… you're really stretching on this.... I think you have to go in with the assumption that they "Hate Men" to come out to this conclusion
The thing you put in spoilers for example to me doesn't look like an "Anti-Men" thing as a "
" thing….I mean, if I went into the original Ghostbusters assuming they hated women, I could draw the same conclusion:
There are only two named female characters in that movie. Janine and Dana.
The heroes of the film, the Ghostbusters, are shown overworking her and when she complains about this to Venkman, he dismisses her complaints and patronizes her.
Dana, on the other hand, spends most of the movie being a damsel in distress they have to help as well as a romantic interest for Venkman to chase before she gets possessed, essentially becoming a pawn in the bad guy's plan.
Then when the only thing in the movie you could call a sentient thinking villain actually does show up at the end, who plays that villain?
A woman.
See, if you're looking to be offended, you can find offense to take in almost anything. I don't really believe the movie was attacking women, nor do I believe it attempted to, but it did rely a bit on some heavy tropes of the day that were certainly skewed in favor of the male heroes. That doesn't make it sexist at all tho.
It was good. There were a few cringeworthy jokes and I was really worried in the beginning because the movie starts off weak. Really weak. It slowly picks up steam but right around the time they start investigating their 2nd ghost the movies really gets into gear which is still pretty early film. Once all 4 ghostbusters are together and they start interacting with one another the movie picks up tremendously.
Funny enough though best scene for me were the end credits. This is not some stupid cliché joke about me being glad the movie is over. No, seriously, the end credits were legitimately funny
Well, the end Credits DID have…
! The REAL star of Finding Dory in it
So that was great.

! When I saw Chris Hemsworth's model shots raining down during the credits and one of them actually had him with a stethoscope I laughed. Remember when he showed them the Saxophone pics, he was like "Which one of these makes me look more like a doctor"…. he literally had one with a stethoscope...
Kate McKinnion's Holtzman was the best part of that movie, but Chris Hemsworth was a very close second.
Nice that you like these cartoon characters so much, especially the utterly over the top dumb hemsworth character.
We've had far worse movies and far worse trailers for movies get made and the players involved not get fired that just seems like a rather harsh punishment especially in light of most of the unnecessary heat this movie has generated from day one.
I was a little exaggerating of course. But those trailers were baiting the Adam Sandler audience hard. That actually drove me away from watching this movie. And now I hear it's ok and good, so why make these awful trailers in the first place?

Because not all trailers are good trailers?

Yeah, cartoon characters are very unlikable. Especially the over the top well meaning dumb ones.
I thought the movie was fine. It did had some funny did give an laugh. I agree that Holtzman was the highlight of the movie. Any scene that's she is in was gold. The cameos from the previous cast members was great.
! Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts cameos got me some good laughs.

Word-of-mouth, international sales?
I think it's highly likely the film will make profit at the end of its run.
I heard the movie was banned in China. And from what I've seen a lot of theatres are empty. Word of mouth doesn't generally seem positive either, or is mixed. I mean it's got under a 5.0 on IMDB and a 60 on Metacritic.

Only that international sales are less than half of domestic gross…
Plus, word of mouth that it's "Meh" isn't really the news that causes people to race to theaters.

Yeah, the movie is banned in China, so that's another massive blow to overall sales.

Probably better to see how it does next weekend before making any predictions.
Box Office Mojo compares its opening to X-Men: First Class, Warcraft, and Independence Day: Resurgence, which have around the same budget and mostly wound up in break-even territory or a little better. A Cinemascore of B+ isn't great but not terrible and next week has Ice Age 19 and Star Trek Beyond so it'll have some competition that second weekend. It'll need to do better than your average Feig film at any rate; the break-even point for the film is roughly $300 million (though it could easily be higher since it got a ton of marketing) and that's a bit more than what his most successful film earned.

Shit I forgot that came out til you reminded me. Off to TVTropes then see you guys in 2 days:ninja:.
Is Harry Potter also banned in china?

A bunch of cry-babies scoring it low without even having seen it.
Yeah, a LOT of the negative reaction comes from people who refuse to see it. Not all of it, but there's a definite sizable chunk. Every time I see one of these people online, they have the same "I don't have to see it to know it's shit" mentality.
I've seen the score distribution for IMDB and there's also a lot of people rating the movie a 10/10. I don't know if they have or haven't seen the movie but even if the movie is good I highly doubt it deserves a 10. Though the nature of scoring a lot of the time leads to tons of people giving something a 1 or a 10. The people on both sides are part of the problem.

Yeah the rating from IMDB people is not one to go off of, due to people raging and possibly even counter-raging plus people giving it ten stars ironically.
I'll admit, I was one of the people who thought this movie was gonna be ballsacks because the women replaced the main cast (now looking back, that was a really idiotic reason), but now I'm seeing that some to most people seem to like it so maybe I'll go and see it one day. I should've had a more open mindset towards this movie. Hey, nobody said opinions were engraved in stone.
Saying Ghostbusters sucked because of IMDB/RT user scores is like saying BvS is a hit based on IMDB/RT user scores. Both are heavily, heavily biased.
Well mixed reviews are better then all out negative, means there's a 50/50 chance I'll like it.
I'm not saying it's defining the quality of the movie but I imagine they could still affect someone's desire to see it on top of watching the trailers, which to me don't seem that appealing even if the movie itself is fine.
I'll still never see it. I'll never support rebooting 80s movies i liked. i also never like SNL humor , especially everything from the mid90's on.

But but but… The Blues Brothers film was based off an SNL skit :o
Blues Brothers and Wayne's World are both great films based on SNL skits. They haven't had many others worthwhile, but those were solid.
Yeah those two are awesome indeed but they also have terrible sequels. And they were made from ideas before "mid90s on". Also both seemed to be like love stories to a music genre, so great music ( especially in BLues brothers) played it's part.
I'm probably the only person who liked Blue's Brother's 2000.

Late 90's SNL was insanely good and also insanely better than early 90's SNL. wtf
I just watched it today, and I thought it was okay. I think I just got way too much bothered with the bad editing, especially in the last confront. Kevin also was just a bad character overall, he somehow became better after
! he was possessed by Rowan's ghost I really don't think the movie deserves all the hate it's getting, but it's also not a classic.
I may be in the minority, but I thought that MacGruber was insanely funny. It wasn't trying to be something that it wasn't and went way over the top and I loved every minute of it.
@Monkey:
Late 90's SNL was insanely good and also insanely better than early 90's SNL. wtf
I dunno, Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Sarah Silverman, Adam Sandler (from before his shtick way played out) Chris Farley, David Spade, Chris Rock, Phil Hartman… the early 90's had some pretty solid talent in it. (I also liked John Lovitz but he was late 80's) But then I hate Will Ferrell, so that singlehandedly taints the late 90' stuff for me.
ANd looking at cast listings, holy crap Keenan Thomspson is still on there after 13 years? What the hell. Him, Seth Meyers and Darrell Hammond, how do you spend more than a decade on SNL?
The first couple seasons were really great as well, but no one really disputes those.

Keenan doesn't really have anything goon on though. Besides SNL, he's done what? Sit Down Shut Up?
Well if you needed anymore proof of how stupid some of the criticism of the new Ghostbusters movie is http://www.rawstory.com/2016/07/ghostubusters-star-leslie-jones-flees-social-media-after-racist-trolls-repeatedly-call-her-an-ape Also anyone know why the tag menu has gone missing?
Yeah, seriously, why must we share the earth with these people? Wish we could round them all up and put them face to face with the people that they harass with John Cena standing behind them looking menacing or something.
Yeah. I really do think one problem that really needs solving is how to prevent this type of harassment online. While the internet is great at bringing wonderful people together, it also brings a large amount of awful people together too, so even if they're a minority, it's still a shit load of people. :|
