he'll be back after a month, as he always does
Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes

I really enjoyed this batch of chapters. I hope he returns in less than 6 months and that his health will get better for him to draw a longer batch (2 volumes would be great).
And with that, I'll stop reading this thread since hiatus discussions will always be stupid.

I am officially tired of ths shits of his. I'll wait for thw next animation project.

Animation project that kinda depends on shits of his?

Nothing official beyond the fact that yes, he started using assistants (but that was super obvious anyway).
We were given the official reason that his back problems were the cause of the previous hiatus. (but no explanations for the ones before.)
I personally think it's bullshit for a variety of reasons and that he's just lazy.
Take whichever option makes you feel better about the breaks.
I'm thinking it's a combination between pride and physical pain.
Pride: This is my creation, I don't need help, I've never needed it before, I'll get around to it when I am able (cue months -> years long hiatus)
Pain: He has mentioned before how he used to be able to lie down on the floor and just draw when he was younger and no it causes him to much pain to do. This was within the past few weeks. Also, other reasons I am inclined to believe him.Honestly, he has earned himself too much goodwill with Shueisha that they gave him the ability to take breaks and not have assistants for as long as he has and it makes them enough money that they didn't want him to end the series earlier.
-
Not believing middle-aged man can have health issues
Wew.
I also find mildly amusing that so many people think getting assistant would solve all the problems. How can having people to draw can help him write the actual plot?
-
I've lost count how many HxH hiatuses I've been through in the last 10+ years, get well soon Togashi though.
-

Yes, I'll wait for when there'll be an enough amount of chapters to see an animated version. It would eventually be when this arc is going to be over, never maybe.

consistent high sales + a series that may never see it's end anytime in the next 5 years = the best thing to ever happen to shueisha.
he's almost like a perpetual cash cow with how much time it will take for him to end his serious. -
At this point, really makes you wonder which takes more breaks….HxH or Berserk.
Sucks that they do because both are soooooo good. Hopefully it returns soon

I don't really care or have an issue with breaks more than: Aw, I hope everything is alright. I laugh at the broken hearts of the fans though. Even my own.

HxH does.
Berserk doesn't take breaks, it just doesn't match the magazine's publishing schedule. Muira works on the chapters constantly, and you can see it in the finished art, and then the mag releases 4 or 5 of them together when they're ready. And while they're being run Muira is working on the next set. We still get about a volume a year, and you're guaranteed chapters a few times a year.
Togashi on the hand takes 2 or3 year vacations and then puts out a couple chapters that are now being done mostly by assistants, and then gets into scribble territory, then goes on actual hiatus again. You can tell he's doing the work right before the deadline while Muira's quality remains consistent.
Then you also have stuff like Vagabond and Nana which also have long pauses… Nana is pretty much cancelled at this point, its been 7 years.

Busy juggling it with REAL which a chapter was out some time back in Jan2016.

Beet the Vandel Buster returned after 10 years of hiatus
Meanwhile we're on year 15 of the X/1999 hiatus

Released just enough chapters for a volume, maybe in a year or so when viz releases 33 and 34 it'll be back
probably not though

I have never read this series and my knowledge of writing manga is extremely limited.
But how the HELL is the author allowed to get away with this? I am genuinely curious. Is HunterxHunter massively popular in Japan? Cause it seems that any business, especially something from the East wouldn't allow this many hiatuses. Sicknesses or not, how much more until Jump gives him an ultimatum?
-
-
Wait! What!?
someone even scanlated the new chapter
-
Holy shit there's new Beet the Vandel Buster? I gave away all my manga volumes on the assumption it'd never finish.

ause the volumes still sell a million copies when they come out despite the breaks, and between the past sales and YuYuHakusho he's made them a lot of money. Its worth the effort to keep him around for those sales.

That's ok, we're getting a sequel to Card Captor Sakura!…..for some reason (pretty much every CLAMP series is, or has been, on hiatus)

In an ideal world togashi would provide the script for a 20 page chapter to his assistants, who would draw the entire chapter and release it on a monthly or bimonthly basis. That way we would get same amount of chapters we are getting now, just on a consistent basis throughout the year, instead of 2 years hiatuses inbetween those 10 chapters.:ninja:

In an even more ideal world Togashi wouldn't have back pain or anything and would keep drawing chapters every week.

It's popular also i only into it a few years ago from watching the 1999 anime version thinking the manga would be way ahead but nope since he took so much time off the story has not really moved much from the 1999 anime version in the manga which is why is it's funny when people complain about low action one piece chapters since at least you're getting a chapter lol.
Oda takes one week off and people start bashing Oda/one piece for it well it could be worse like with hxh.

-
10 chaps… he ended it giving crazy shit to the most serious character in his disposal. It's something.
-
I'm thankful we got 11 chapters this time around… still more than usual. Would have preferred 30 like before, but the content we received this time around has left me satisfied until the next hiatus. We got to see:
- The return of Hanzo, Biscuit, Izunavi, Melody, and Basho
- The long-anticipated Chrollo vs. Hisoka fight…and it DELIVERED. I can't wait to see this animated.
- The deaths of two Phantom Troupe members–Shalnark and Kortopi were brutally done in.
- The ship finally departed!
- Kurapika's using a gun? Cool.
- The existence of Parasite-type Nen.
- The succession war is immediately starting!
I don't really care about the hiatuses too much anymore. I think that manga like his is best read from time to time–you can live your life and not have the show take up too much mental space. Also, the writing style is extremely logical and tight. I think that the extra time to plan ensures that HxH stays quality instead of him pumping out chapter after chapter of nonsense. Even a panel like this (yes, I subscribe--you should too, freeloaders):
This is interesting because when I first read it last week, I thought that the responses of these too were far too unrealistic (immediate identification of Nen as a "psychic power"? That's highly irrational). Lo and behold, they've been lying their asses off. Great writing. Character logic is also sound every time. He's had problems for years and doesn't stop talking about them to the point where I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Health is extremely important to me and I sincerely hope Togashi reaches the point where he can do that marathon. Just be grateful and stop making the same complaints when we know the score already.
-
I just wanna see the day where Berserk, A song of Ice and Fire and HxH are actually completed.:ninja:
-
I guess to write such complicate stories means to spend lots of time thinking and researching…I mean in a world where 90% of mangas are rubbish or too predictable, this deserves special consideration, let's hope HxH can inspire other young mangakas to focus on quality writing rather than commercial-money oriented works. At the end of the day, it's what people really want from a manga and they buy these takabons with pleasure rather than just read the chapters in internet.
-
Don't worry if not hxh, then surely fairy tail is right now inspiring a plethora of upcoming artists with it's fantastic storytelling.:ninja:
-
Lol at the people who didn't know Beet The Vandal Buster was returning.

It may have only been 11 chapters, but I absolutely adored what we got. Kurapika over analyzing every detail and the Hisoka Vs Chrollo fight have satiated my thirst. I really hope we get the volumes in english soon.
-
Yeah, no complaints about this batch of chapters, we got some pretty meaty stuff. And the hiatus was well expected so it doesn't hurt as much anymore.
-
No they don't. That's a myth that we started based on assumptions after his one hospital visit. He isn't taking breaks because they're mandated, he's taking breaks because he is 40 instead of 20 now, and he's earned it and wants to spend some time with his family.
We have it from our sources on the inside that he's in perfectly good health (except for being a major smoker) and everything's fine. So we really need to stop perpetuating that particular myth.
There was a medication bottle for sugar deficiency/diabetes in Oda's office during one of his interviews/tours. I don't think having diabetes…or, at least, sugar issues classifies as "perfectly good health", and being a hardcore smoker would also destroy that as well for him.
I believe you about the publisher thing, though. People just spread that around everywhere.

http://readms.com/r/wsjac/Issue%2031%20%202016/3508/1?t=2&f=0&e=0I think that the fact that he has been losing weight shows that he is at least putting effort into getting back into health. Again I haven't kept up with his comments the past 10 years, but I do see a silver lining in all of this pain talk as it seems that he has a plan to lose weight and get back into a more ideal shape. Even if that means 2 volumes a year then I would be extremely happy.
-
Let's not forget that literally every author comment since returning from hiatus has been about his health and/or about how shitty back pain is.
-
Man, the KA arc is so much better in the manga than in the 2011 anime version! Everything is perfect. The pacing doesn't affect the intensity, as it was the case in the anime (this being said, it is really hard to adapt the narrator's speech from manga(literature) to anime).
I believe this arc in particular shows off Togashi's brilliant narrative skills and style.
The best part of it is when the protagonists attack the castle through Nov's portals. There, every single characters' thoughts are described - they're exposed to us readers. The char. development was great, too.Komugi is the true hero of the KA arc, the key to everything. I find it cool that a fragile, blind, vulnerable girl was the only one able to defeat the all-mighty King, Meruem.
-
If it were not for Komugi, the king would have not defeated Netero. Thanks to their Shogi matches that the king learned about strategy, patience and to better disrupt flows. Yes, the king's tactic of disrupting flow was there from the beginning, it was honed through the matches though.
-
@Tamiel:

If it were not for Komugi, Meruem would have never earned his gentle, "human" side. Nov would have been unable to approach the castle because of Neferupito's nen. Meruem wouldn't have been separed from his royal guards, etc.
Besides, I think Meruem would have defeated Netero even without his matches against Komugi.
EDIT: I'm not even quite sure anymore. V. 28//p.131, it is mentioned that his games against Komugi improved his anticipation skills. What I'm asking myself is if this is what determined his victory.
@Tamiel:
Thanks to their Shogi matches
Shogi is the real board game; Gungi is the fictional one, that they play (not really a significant detail though).
By the way, I find it amazing that Togashi has actually invented games within his manga. Not only Gungi, but the whole Greed Island game too.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

I understand that. Back pain is horrible. I think he should first focus on his health, and then on his manga.

The king completely outclassed Netero regardless of strategy…Even Netero's strongest technique had no effect on him. I don't think this was a detail they were going for. She just helped him beat Netero without having to kill him as per he and Meruem's agreement for his name was.--- Update From New Post Merge ---@Kaptayn:

I thought 2011 was a perfect adaptation but man the manga is so well paced that I finished all the way to the Chimera Ant arc in 2 days. I'm taking a break until tomorrow but it goes at a lightning pace even the boring parts like Greed Island. The most exciting part of the CA arc is that by the end I didn't know if I wanted to root for the heroes or for the ants because they both had justifiable reasons for their actions and I wanted to see both of them fulfill their goals. I know in the end it had to be the humans that live but everytime I see how much Meruem loved Komungi, how much Pitou had grown and learned to feel, and how much Youpi learned to respect other warriors I wish they could have lived and become forces for good. I even liked Pufu because of his dedication to the king even though he was creepy. That truly was one of the greatest shonen arcs ever written.
-
I'm not convinced, I do think, without Komugi the king would have not touched Netero. Yes this is not the point, given Komugi is real. I just believe that without that humanization, the king would have been more like a mad beast, chasing and chasing. The most crucial scene that deterred him from this path was when he got fed up and the King wanted to kill Komugi, but intead saved her. That was the transition the King needed to allow him to grow and outclass Netero not only in raw strength(let's appreciate that Issac was over 110 years old) and as a tactician. I find through Komugi is that the King is actually a bit humbled, and open his eyes beyond the books he was reading.
Let us not dwell in this too much though, because it is straight fan fiction at best.
-
The king was holding back his power the entire time in order to not kill Netero, as that was the condition of their fight, so that he could learn his name.
The humanity he learned changed the nature of the fight, not the outcome.
-
Pretty sure the point of the king was that he is power(which is why he doesn't have fancy technique). Netero would lose to him like anyone else would. The girl mostly made him gain emotion and subtility(to not kill Netero).
-

I felt exactly the same! Though I read it throughout a larger amount of time.

Yes. That was brilliantly executed by Togashi, who tried to insist on the fact that we weren't really that different from the ants. Netero even started doubting his own mission after the King spoke to him.
