Chapter 830: He Who Gets Bet On

I know on the surface being able to make your attacks stronger and being able to strike a Logia are second to none but Observation has its uses as well. Well just so long as you think about it beyond just predicting a movement. People like Queen Otohime can truly empathize with a person and basically "feel" their soul. I interpret her almost like a walking lie detector. Sanji as well, because his observation is the more tuned of the 2(Or maybe 3 someday), he can really hone in on a persons true feelings. Like Nami when she took a hit from Monet, or more so when Viola was lying about her situation and trying to stay big and bad in front of her minions.
But then there is this breath/voice of all things and it seems like CoO can be taken to an insane level. This is what allowed Roger to reach Raftel so I'd say its importance to the story is just as great as CoA.
Color of the Conquerer though, I'm still trying to figure out the greater uses in that one.
-
Oh really? Yh, it really isn't clear. But I guess we get the idea that they are collecting his life time.
Thanks Captain MIm of the opinion muscato will be revived,

@Donald:
So why then does Zoro learn a form of Observational Haki only to be trained by Mihawk revealing Armament to be his specialty? It agrees with his tanky style of fighting and I have no problem with it but still why did Oda present him learning Observation on his own?
If there was a time to reveal his hidden Haki ability it was the wrong type. A mistake that doesn't agree with the current state of the story.
There are other inconsistencies most notably Shanks arm. We all know Oda did it because his editors told him he should but still. For a man who rules the sea supposedly via strong Haki, then we know Haki was damage control to Oda losing his grip on the continuity of One Piece.
But color of conquerers Haki is most likely still maluable to meet the needs of the story at this point just like the infant idea of Haki was until we got where we are.
I'm not really sure I follow, especially with what you have quoted. CoO may have been the first display of Haki from Zoro but that doesn't mean he was then forced to specialize in it. Everyone is different. Every person in the world can use both types, Mihawk taught him CoA and then Zoro naturally gravitated towards that. There is no need for any answer beyond that.
Shanks got his arm bit off, things happen sometimes. What inconsistencies are you referring to?

@Donald:
Surely if Zoro's natural inclination is towards armament then exactly how does he manage to unlock a seemingly advanced form of Observation beyond anything we've yet to see in the story from anyone else using observation?
Shanks is far far too powerful to have his arm accidentally bit off. then to use conqueror's Haki to scare it away? Becoming yonko means more powerful than a navy admiral. imagine any admiral sustaining that type of injury from a sea king in east blue. Doesn't fit to me.
Oda himself didn't realize one piece would take off as it did, the current state of Haki is the result of that
Shanks bet his arm on the new Era. He gave it up to drill into Luffy's head the man that a Pirate King shoud be.
So in a quick decision, he decided to bet on Luffy.
Shanks taught Luffy self control and humility and it only cost him his arm.
Something like that! -
Having a better look at Mom's 'wheel of misfortune' those numbers intrigue me. Do you think they represent years of life that she can steal from a person? Does that mean we may be seeing Jewelery Bonney showing up in the plot this time?
-
He's not dead. They're collecting every second lost.

I thought Bleach was bad, then I stop reading mangastrean translation and started reading Viz translation. It's a completely different experience.

I think the numbers represent the amount of payment. that's why the 10s are in such small areas and the 1000s have huge areas.
a 10 in hand might be the loss of a finger, a 100 might be the hand and 1000 might be the entire arm.
a 10 in head might be an ear, a 100 might be an eye and a 1000 might be the entire head (instadeath)
a 10 in leg might be the loss of a foot, a 100 might be everything below the knee and 1000 might be the entire leg.Maybe Jimbei will end up having an eyepatch, a wooden leg and a hook for a hand.

First, why is this relevant?
Second, does the Viz translation doesn't suffers from horrible plot and excess of white panels and black inks?

… now this would be an unique design. -
@Tamiel:
If you put it that way, I think they would have been searching for the one no one knows where it is. I agree on the Jimbe part, that is why I said too much of a coincidence? But it came from the idea that Pedri was looking for another type of Poneglyph not the road one.
What has spawn that idea?

Pedro says he swears to steal it this time. He has tried before. The poly he tried to steal before and the one he will try to steal now are the same, a road poly.--- Update From New Post Merge ---

I'm new to posting in the forums, I hit reply instead of reply with quote. In other words that post is addressed to the person who brought up Bleach.) -

Pedro says he swears to steal it this time. He has tried before. The poly he tried to steal before and the one he will try to steal now are the same, a road poly.It would have been easier to say: I was searching for Big Mom's Poneglyph not: I was searching for a poneglyph, and my final voyage brought me to Big Mom's territory. If it were what you mention it seems like an overly complicated way of saying it. Also he says "his final voyage" we assume that the Minks knew that Kaido and Big Mom had a Road Poneglyph for a while, so if he wanted to steal Big Mom's stone, wouldn't his voyage/ first voyage take him there, not his last. You could also see it as, given that he couldn't find the poneglyph he was searching for, he tried to ninja his way into Big Mom's territory to steal the road Poneglyph instead because it is as useful.
Given we are so close to this week's chapter, I'll put my final guess on the roulette penalties 4as:
- Arms : 10 points fingers, 100 points hands, 1000 points arm.
- Legs: 10 points toes, 100 points foot, 1000 points leg.
- Head: 10 points eye, 100 points face, 1000 points head.
-Big Mom: Lifespan, though i'm not sure how the points would be divided I guess, the highest is your entire lifespan?

So… I've been wondering... Is that person on the shore, that Luffy and company mentioned at the end of the chapter, going to end up being important or something else?
By important, I mean, is the character going to be Bobbin or some other strong Big Mom member waiting for the Strawhat's in order to capture and/or kill them for Big Mom, the piece Jinbei lost (if anything) to Big Mom's game, or, simply Pudding. Or will it simply be something there for a chapter or 2, then gone.

! http://anime.stackexchange.com/questions/5762/why-does-shanks-sacrifice-his-arm-to-save-luffy
So maybe not the most original comment but regardless, it was done because the editors suggested it. Not these reasons. It was just to make the story more interesting, that's why it doesn't fit even considering the presented counter-argument.
shanks didn't decide to lose an arm, it takes a clear mind and concentration to use haki. Shanks was in a panicked state to
save luffy. He jumped in and did whatever he could at the time. that's why a couple of seconds later he regained his composure and made the sea king piss off with CoC. -
That scene was nothing but plot and we shouldn't use now established laws of one piece on it. The scene altogether should be ignored.
Even without haki, nobody is going to hurt shanks. It would take an island splitting punch/slash to injure the man, even without haki. That was just way too early in the series so oda didnt have defined power leves yet and because of that the scene is completely irrelevant these days.

So the person on the shore is supposed to be pudding with sanji, since its seems to be only one person it's anyone's guess who it is and what happened.
-
We constantly see the crew members with devil fruit powers launching themselves at sea to save one of their friends. Why didn't they stop and helped in another way? Why didn't they stop to think? Because they didn't. The bandit was not as close to shore it seems, so at most Shanks saw the bandit and Luffy on the boat and started swimming, if he noticed that the sea king was attacking, then his immediate thought wouldn't be: "I have to use haki and make it go away!" At most it would be: "SHIT LUFFY CAN'T SWIM" I wouldn't call it a panicked state, but tunnel vision.

16 characers of lol, this discussion.

So we have Pudding, Jinbe, Sanji and Bobbin. Who else could we add? The 2 other Vinsmokes?

Morgan made Garp bleed.
Pre-skip Luffy made Garp bleed.
Fodder was able to kill Roger.
Mere bullets was able to wound Whitebeard. So Shanks losing is arm to a sea monster is not impossible.

Of course it's not impossible. For the reasons i stated in my post. Why the hell did you even take that out of context?
And what do any of these have anything to do with what i said?

Color of the Conquerer = Ability to make ally and have a follower
Strongest ability that exist in the world both in One Piece and real world. Its not something that can destroy a mountain but an ability that can even destroy a planet, wipe out the entire civilizaton, bring eternal peace or eternal chaos to the world.

Because you said that the scene should be ignored and that no one is gonna hurt Shanks without haki.
I just took different examples to show you that you can hurt a top tier without haki therefore the scene shouldn't be ignored. -

Actually, Conqueror's Haki allows the user to exert their willpower over others with weak wills, knocking them out.

And over inanimate objects like when shanks vs. whitebeard's ship
-
@Donald:
Shanks never gave me the panicky vibe. Sea kings to yonko level pirates aren't worthy of any panick anyways. Neither are small bands of mountain bandits. Not when you're fighting people like Whitebeard, Akainu, Kaidou and Big Mom. This is who Shanks is currently competing against.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Yeah exactly. An oversight to the possibility of one piece growing to a decades long story.
Well as with any new stories you aren't going to have everything mapped out but if the reasoning is placed in the manga retrospectively we should take the author's word for it and give benefit of the doubt, so even if it doesn't make sense we should accept it for what it is. Shanks said he bet it on Luffy and that's that, no need delve further into how and why .
-
We need something now but what is it? What do we need? I hope we get it soon because this chapter was ok and the discussion was also good so far ITT.

You know the current chapter thread has officially run its course when BlaZing asks for spoilers.

The mods finally told him to stop asking for spoilers after people kept replying to him with spoilers lol.

I just took different examples to show you that you can hurt a top tier without haki therefore the scene shouldn't be ignored. So? Why did you even quote me i myself gave reasons why shanks could be hurt. The examples you gave have nothing to do with what i said.
