Doflamingo was a great character, and one of the things that kept Dressrosa from being an even worse arc. The primary reason people look down on him is the fact he gave us bird cage. Because most of the ugly in Dressrosa (the climb to Doflamingo's throne, chapter 755 'World of Men'; Rebecca flopping as a character; Mansherry being a Deus ex Machina plot device; the chief executive going down like sacks of shit; Sabo [granted, I've come to mildly appreciate him] hogging screen time) occurred after the cage went up, people attribute much off the arc's failures to Doflamingo. The truth is though, all of Dressrosa's problem can be linked to the oversaturation of characters and plot points, not the bird cage itself, and as such, people tend to scapegoat Doflamingo, the big bad and root of all evil, even when he was not the actual problem.
My overall point is: Doflamingo losing this match is a result of Oda's generally poor handling of Doflamingo's arc, and not how he wrote the villain himself.
P.S. I voted Ryuunosuke. That was such a wonderful gag.
